  • One to many too much data returned - MySQL

    I have 2 related MySQL tables in a one to many relationship. Customers: cust_id, cust_name, cust_notes Orders: order_id, cust_id, order_comments So, if I do a standard join to get all customers and their orders via PHP, I return something like: Jack Black, jack's notes, comments about jack's 1st order Jack Black, jack's notes, comments about jack's 2nd order Simon Smith, simon's notes, comments about simon's 1st order Simon Smith, simon's notes, comments about simon's 2nd order The problem is that *cust_notes* is a text field and can be quite large (a couple of thousand words). So, it seems like returning that field for every order is inneficient. I could use *GROUP_CONCAT* and JOINS to return all *order_comments* on a single row BUT order_comments is a large text field too, so it seems like that could create a problem. Should I just use two separate queries, one for the customers table and one for the orders table? Is there a better way?

  • How can the blank space in a C# comboBox be filled as a hint for the user?

    When a comboBox in C# is dynamically populated the comboBox appears blank until the user clicks on it to view the available items in the dropdown. Ideally, I would like to use this blank space (prior to clicking the dropdown) to be used to give the user a hint as to what s/he should do. For example, it might say something like, "Select such-and-such..." Is there a way to do this? I tried setting the Text property, but that didn't do anything. I am using Microsoft Visual C# 2008 Express Edition. Thanks.

  • Building a Drupal Newsletter Module for handling Newsletter Articles

    We're building a module for generating HTML for email newsletters. We've looked into using a few other modules (SimpleNews, MailChimp, among others), but due to various requirements, it'll be easier and better for us to build a custom solution. Being a new Drupal developer, I'm a bit worried about handling this in a "non-Drupal" way. That being said, my plan is to setup a vocabulary with Newsletters as a term and the actual Newsletters as sub-terms, like so: Newsletters (term) - Newsletter A (sub-term) - Newsletter B (sub-term) This has the added benefit of being able to organize where articles were published (besides just on the site.) The question, though, is how to handle the different Newsletter issues. I could go another level deeper in the vocabulary, like so: Newsletters (term) - Newsletter A (sub-term) - Issue - 2010-03-01 - Issue - 2010-03-02 - Newsletter B (sub-term) - Issue - 2010-03-01 - Issue - 2010-03-08 But I'm wondering if this is adding a bit too much complexity. Once I have this taxonomy setup, when the user went to add new newsletters it would also create a node (content type: newsletter), and when he/she went to add new issues, it would also create a node (content type: issue.) Those would then be the landing pages for that content. So, the question is is there a better way for handling this structure? Is this a Drupal-like solution?

  • Building a list of favorites from Core Data

    I'm building an app with two tabs. The first tab has a main tableview that connects to a detail view of the row. The second tab will display a tableView based on the user adding content to it by tapping a button on the detail view. My question is this. What is the correct design pattern to do this? Do I create a second ManagedObjectContext/ManagedObjectContextID then save that context to a new persistent store or can the MOC be saved to the existing store without affecting the original tableview? I've looked at CoreData Recipes and CoreData Books and neither deal with multiple stores although books does deal with multiple MOC's. Any reference would be great.

  • Django Admin: OneToOne Relation as an Inline?

    I am putting together the admin for a satchmo application. Satchmo uses OneToOne relations to extend the base Product model, and I'd like to edit it all on one page. It is possible to have a OneToOne relation as an Inline? If not, what is the best way to add a few fields to a given page of my admin that will eventually be saved into the OneToOne relation? for example: class Product(models.Model): name = models.CharField(max_length=100) ... class MyProduct(models.Model): product = models.OneToOne(Product) ... I tried this for my admin but it does not work, and seems to expect a Foreign Key: class ProductInline(admin.StackedInline): model = Product fields = ('name',) class MyProductAdmin(admin.ModelAdmin): inlines = (AlbumProductInline,) admin.site.register(MyProduct, MyProductAdmin) Which throws this error: <class 'satchmo.product.models.Product'> has no ForeignKey to <class 'my_app.models.MyProduct'> Is the only way to do this a Custom Form? edit: Just tried the following code to add the fields directly... also does not work: class AlbumAdmin(admin.ModelAdmin): fields = ('product__name',)

[WebGet] MyClass[] WebMethod() If the signiature looks like this [WebGet] IEnumerable<T> WebMethod() I get the following error: Cannot serialize parameter of type 'X.Y.Z.T+<WebMethod>d__2c' (for operation 'WebMethod', contract 'IService') because it is not the exact type 'System.Collections.Generic.IEnumerable`1[X.Y.Z.T]' in the method signature and is not in the known types collection. In order to serialize the parameter, add the type to the known types collection for the operation using ServiceKnownTypeAttribute. I have tried adding. ServiceKnownType(typeof(IEnumerable)) Same error. Is this a bug in 2010 beta 2, or is this likely to be correct going forward? Thanks

  • OnExit is not entering via PostSharp in asp.net project.

    Hi there, I have setup PostSharp and it appears to be working but i don't get it entering OnExit (i have logged setup to ensure it is working) ... Its a bit tricky to configure with asp.net - or is it just me ... I am using the 1.5 new version I basically have the following in my web.config and i had to add the SearchPath otherwise it can't find my assemblies <postsharp directory="C:\Program Files\PostSharp 1.5" trace="true"> <parameters> <!--<add name="parameter-name" value="parameter-value"/>--> </parameters> <searchPath> <!-- Always add the binary folder to the search path. --> <add name="bin" value="~\bin"/> </searchPath> </postsharp> I have set tracing on but what is strange to me is that it appears to build to the temp directory, maybe this is my issue, i am unsure .. hence i do F5 ... Is it possible to name the Output directory and output file?? As you can see it is editing a DLL in the temp dir so IIS is no longer in control so it doesn't execute it ??? Any help is greatly appreciated.

    In my Google Appengine application I have defined a custom exception InvalidUrlException(Exception) in the module 'gvu'. Somewhere in my code I do: try: results = gvu.article_parser.parse(source_url) except gvu.InvalidUrlException as e: self.redirect('/home?message='+str(e)) ... which works fine in the local GAE development server, but raises <type 'exceptions.SyntaxError'>: invalid syntax (translator.py, line 18) when I upload it. (line 18 is the line starting with 'except') The problem seems to come from the 'as e' part: if I remove it I don't get this exception anymore. However I would like to be able to access the raised exception. Have you ever encountered this issue? Is there an alternative syntax?

  • CSS: Aligning problem with rounded corners in IE 6/7 but ok in IE8/ Firefox etc

    Hi there, can anyone help? I have a problem aligning rounded corners in IE6/7. Basically everything seems to work in Firefox / IE8 but in IE6/7 the left / center / and right divs get misaligned. This basically shows exactly what i am refering to. here is the example in IE8 and everything works ok http://es.drop.io/ern0fye/asset/ie8-jpg And here is the problem (this example is running in IE8 with compat mode set to IE7) http://es.drop.io/ern0fye/asset/ie7-jpg I seem to remember there being a bug in IE6/7 with lineheight or similar but i don't recall exactly. I will paste the CSS and HTML below it is very very simple. Basically there is a left div that holds the left corner image and center div which has a background of RED which is the same as the corner images and finally a right div which holds the right corner image. I would appreciate any input anyone has. Thanks in advance. When the [self loginToFaceBook] fires FBConnect adds a subview to 'window' which is still the UIAlert view, so when the UIAlert really dismisses it takes the FBConnect view with it.   • scrapy - python question

    Hi.. Maybe not the correct place to post. But, I'm going to try anyway! I've got a couple of test python parsing scripts that I created. They work enough for me to test what I'm working on. However, I recently came across the python framework, Scrapy, which is used for web scraping. My app runs in a distributed process, across a testbed of multiple servers. I'm trying to understand scrapy, to see if it provides benefits over what I'm doing. So, if possible, I'd really like to talk with a few people who are grounded in/or who use scrapy.     I know Visual Studio 2010 has a new Code Analysis tool built in, but that is only for the premium and ultimate editions. From what I can see the latest FxCop supports .NET 3.5 SP1. Searching I wasn't able to find any references to an FxCop for .NET 4.0. Is there plans to continue to offer FxCop and for it to support .NET 4.0? Where would I find more information about it and download it?

  • odd problem with jni interacting with dll's - not sure why a change to gc ergonomics fixes it

    We were having a problem with our Tomcat jvm blowing up and giving us an hs_* dump at random times but always in the same spot, that wasn't very informative other than saying we had an EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION Commenting out various parts of the java that called particular jni functions just made it blow consistently in another spot. By changing our jvm options from: set PAF_OPTS=-Xms1024m -Xmx32000m -server -XX:+UseParallelGC -XX:+UseParallelOldGC -XX:+DisableExplicitGC -XX:+UseCompressedOops -Djava.library.path="%CATALINA_HOME%"\jni -Dcom.sun.management.jmxremote TO set PAF_OPTS=-Xms1024m -Xmx32000m -server -XX:+DisableExplicitGC -XX:+UseCompressedOops -Djava.library.path="%CATALINA_HOME%"\jni -Dcom.sun.management.jmxremote The problem went away. The solution does not give me a warm and fuzzy however and am wondering anyone might understand what's going on under the covers here. Environment: jdk1.6, 64 bit OS and Java, Tomcat, Windows

  • How do I specify a crossdomain policy file to allow Flash to grab a bitmap from an RTMP (Wowza) vide

    I'm trying to get a bitmap/snapshot of a Wowza video stream playing on my client, like so: var bitmapData:BitmapData = new BitmapData(view.videoPlayerComponent.width, view.videoPlayerComponent.height); bitmapData.draw(view.videoPlayerComponent); When I do this, I get this error message: SecurityError: Error #2123: Security sandbox violation: BitmapData.draw: http://localhost:51150/Resources/WRemoteWebCam.swf cannot access rtmp://localhost/videochat/smithkl42._default/. No policy files granted access. I presume the error comes from not being able to locate the appropriate crossdomain.xml file. I'm not quite sure where it's looking for it, and a wireshark sniff was inconclusive, so I've tried placing one in each of the following places: http://localhost/crossdomain.xml http://localhost:1935/crossdomain.xml http://localhost:51150/crossdomain.xml I can retrieve the file successfully from each of those three locations. (I'm pretty sure that the last one wouldn't have any effect, since it's just the location of the web site which hosts the page that hosts the .swf file, but on the off chance...) These are the contents of the file that it's grabbing in each instance: <cross-domain-policy> <allow-access-from domain="*" to-ports="*" /> </cross-domain-policy> And it's still throwing that same error message. I've also followed the instructions on the Wowza forums, to turn on StreamVideoSampleAccess in the [install]\conf[appname]\Application.xml, with no joy: <Client> <IdleFrequency>-1</IdleFrequency> <Access> <StreamReadAccess>*</StreamReadAccess> <StreamWriteAccess>*</StreamWriteAccess> <StreamAudioSampleAccess>*</StreamAudioSampleAccess> <StreamVideoSampleAccess>*</StreamVideoSampleAccess> <SharedObjectReadAccess>*</SharedObjectReadAccess> <SharedObjectWriteAccess>*</SharedObjectWriteAccess> </Access> </Client> Any thoughts?

I know there is supposed to be support for Msgbox-esque methods in ASP.NET but I can't find them and any other JavaScript based solutions don't work effectively when you have an update panel. Help.

  • Using UpdatePanels inside of a ListView

    Hey everyone, I'm wondering if anybody has run across something similar to this before. Some quick pseudo-code to get started: <UpdatePanel> <ContentTemplate> <ListView> <LayoutTemplate> <UpdatePanel> <ContentTemplate> <ItemPlaceholder /> </ContentTemplate> </UpdatePanel> </LayoutTemplate> <ItemTemplate> Some stuff goes here </ItemTemplate> </ListView> </ContentTemplate> </UpdatePanel> The main thing to take away from the above is that I have an update panel which contains a listview; and then each of the listview items is contained in its own update panel. What I'm trying to do is when one of the ListView update panels triggers a postback, I'd want to also update one of the other ListView item update panels. A practical implementation would be a quick survey, that has 3 questions. We'd only ask Question #3 if the user answered "Yes" to Question #1. When the page loads; it hides Q3 because it doesn't see "Yes" for Q1. When the user clicks "Yes" to Q1, I want to refresh the Q3 update panel so it now displays. I've got it working now by refreshing the outer UpdatePanel on postback, but this seems inefficient because I don't need to re-evaluate every item; just the ones that would be affected by the prerequisite i detailed out above. I've been grappling with setting up triggers, but i keep coming up empty mainly because I can't figure out a way to set up a trigger for the updatepanel for Q3 based off of the postback triggered by Q1. Any suggestions out there? Am I barking up the wrong tree?
