  • Recommended solutions for integrating iOS with .NET, at the service tier

    I'm developing an application, in iOS, that is required to connect to my Windows Server to poll for new data, update, etc. As a seasoned C# developer, my first instinct is to start a new project in Visual Studio and select Web Service, letting my bias (and comfort level) dictate the service layer of my application. However, I don't want to be biased, and I don't base my decision on a service which I am very familiar with, at the cost of performance. I would like to know what other developers have had success using, and if there is a default standard for iOS service layer development? Are there protocols that are easier to consume than others within iOS? Better ones for the size and/or compression of data? Is there anything wrong with using SOAP? I know it's "big" in comparison to protocols like JSON.

  • MSBuild (.NET 4.0) access problems

    I'm using Cruise Control .NET as my build server (Windows 2008 Server). Yesterday I upgraded my ASP.NET MVC project from VS 2008/.NET 3.5 to VS 2010/.NET 4.0. The only change I made to my ccnet.config's MSBuild task was the location of MSBuild.exe. Ever since I made that change, the build has been broken with the error: MSB4019 - The imported project "C:\Program Files (x86)\MSBuild\Microsoft\VisualStudio\v10.0\WebApplications\Microsoft.WebApplication.targets" was not found. Confirm that the path in the declaration is correct, and that the file exists on disk. This file does, in fact, exist in the location specified (I solved a problem similar to this when setting up the build server for VS2008/.NET 3.5 by copying the files from my dev environment to my build environment). So I RDP'ed into the build machine and opened a command prompt, used MSBUILD to attempt to build my project. MSBUILD returns the error: MSB3021 - Unable to copy file "obj\debug....dll". Access to the path 'bin....dll' is denied. Since I'm running MSBUILD from the command prompt, logged in with an account that has administrative privileges, I'm assuming that MSBUILD is running with the same privileges that I have. Next, I tried to copy the file that MSBUILD was attempting to copy. In this case, I get the UAC dialog that makes me click the [Continue] button to complete the copy. I'd like to avoid installing Visual Studio 2010 on my build machine, can anyone suggest other fixes I might try?

  • Jqgrid Modal Popup Problem

    Hello all, I've placed two jqgrid fully customizable tables with add, delete, ...etc buttons. Everything works perfect for the first table. But I've problems with the second table. When i click for instance to delete button, the modal confirmation popup doesn't appear at the right location. It appears outside the visible area and i can only see it when i zoom out only. How can i fix this problem? Is there a way to determine the place of the modal popup of jqgrid or can i disable the confirmation popup after the delete button is pressed. Thanx to all

  • jqGrid inline editing event on "Esc" cancel

    Does anyone know if jqGrid inline editing throws events that can be handled? The following code is a simple example of what I'm trying to accomplish: jQuery('#list').jqGrid('editRow', 0, true, false, false, false, {onClose: function(){alert('onClose')}}, reloadGrid); I'd like to be able to handle an "Esc" cancel event. The onClose event is available with Form Editing: www.trirand.com/jqgridwiki/doku.php?id=wiki:form_editing but doesn't work with inline editing and the Inline Editing documentation doesn't supply anything event wise other than the extraparam option which is very unspecific: http://www.trirand.com/jqgridwiki/doku.php?id=wiki:inline_editing I haven't been able to figure out how to utilize the extraparam options. Suggestions?

  • Error Running MVC2 application in IIS on .NET 4.0

    I recently installed the RTM version of 4.0. I now receive an error when running MVC2 websites in a .net 4 app pool. The error is "User is not available in this context." All works fine on .net 2.0 app pools or if I run the app within the VS10 web server. The error only occurs in IIS on .net 4.0. To verify that it was not something specific to my app, I created a new MVC test app from the VS template and even that app encounters this error. My next step is to reinstall .net 4.0. Has anyone else seen this error?

I would like to see an informative example of such setup, so I could build my own project off that. I tried googling, found some pretty things like S#arp Architecture, an article about regular ASP.NET (WebForms) integrated with the frameworks and so on. Still, I'm missing a good tutorial on ASP.NET MVC & the subj. P.S.: I do know how Spring and Hibernate works, I just need to plug them into an MVC application.     I'm working on a S#arpArchitecture 1.5 project, which uses ASP.NET MVC 2. I've been trying to get areas to work properly but I ran into a problem: The ASP.NET MVC 2 routing engine matches the correct route to my area but then it generates an URL that belongs to the first registered area instead. Here's my request URL: /Framework/Authentication/LogOn?ReturnUrl=%2fDefault.aspx I'm using the Route Tester from Phil Haack and it shows: Matched Route: Framework/{controller}/{action}/{id} Generated URL: /Data/Authentication/LogOn?ReturnUrl=%2FDefault.aspx using the route "Data/{controller}/{action}/{id}" That's clearly wrong, the URL should point to the Framework area, not the Data area. This is how I register my routes, nothing special there IMO. private static void RegisterRoutes(RouteCollection routes) { routes.IgnoreRoute("{resource}.axd/{*pathInfo}"); AreaRegistration.RegisterAllAreas(); routes.MapRoute( "default", "{controller}/{action}/{id}", new { controller = "Home", action = "Index", id = UrlParameter.Optional }); } The area registration classes all look like this.   • jqgrid scrollable dialog

    I have a jqGrid that has add/edit dialogs with a form that's longer than the dialog height but the dialog won't scroll. I've tried to add an overflow: auto style to the dialog but no effect: $("div.ui-jqdialog-content").css("overflow", "auto"); Although, if I change auto to scroll, I at least see a scrollbar but still no scrolling: $("div.ui-jqdialog-content").css("overflow", "scroll"); This at least gives me a small glimmer of hope that I'm on the right track. There doesn't seem to be any direction from the API documentation to support scrolling: http://www.trirand.com/jqgridwiki/doku.php?id=wiki:form_editing Does anyone know how to add a working scrollbar to the jqModal dialog window used by jqGrid?

  • HtmlForm.Action and .Net Framework 2.0/3.5 Query

    Disappointingly, the members page for HtmlForm 2.0 is missing... My research seems to indicate that HtmlForm.Action is a property that was added in .Net Framework 3.5. However, I'm using VS2005 and my reference to System.Web (the namespace HtmlForm is under) is to a .Net Framework 2.0 runtime version. Further, my IIS status information also indicates I am using .Net Framework 2.0, when I force an error on my local IIS and read it. Despite this, I am able to use form1.Action successfully...but only on my local IIS. When I try it on vms and external servers, I get [MissingMethodException: Method not found: 'System.String System.Web.UI.HtmlControls.HtmlForm.get_Action()'.] errors. So, my question: 1) Why does it work on my local IIS? Does the fact that I have the 3.5 framework installed make a difference, here? 2) Why does it not work on other IIS? (I think this is because it's not part of .Net 2.0). I guess I just figure that if something is running on .Net Framework 2.0, the presence of 3.5 should not make a difference. Or maybe there's some other cause for these results.

  • Why did the aspnet_client folder come back in ASP.NET 4?

    I recently upgraded my MVC 1 project (ASP.NET 3.5) to MVC 2 (ASP.NET 4). I noticed there is now a folder "aspnet_client\system_web\4_0_30319" under the site root. This folder is empty... I'm just wondering if anyone knows why it was created. I remember the aspnet_client folder from the days of .NET 1.1, but I thought it was obsoleted when .NET 2.0 came out. For example, see the answers in these two stackoverflow posts: What is the aspnet_client folder in my ASP.NET website? What is the aspnet_client folder for under the IIS structure?   • ASP.NET 32-bit machine compiled now trying to run on 64-bit machine

    I have an ASP.NET app that was compiled on a 32-bit machine. There are many different assemblies that are referenced. I opened the web site's main dll with ILDASM and looked at the .corflags. It stated it was ILONLY. However, when I run the web site locally on the 64-bit machine (Windows XP Pro 64-bit), I get "is not a valid Win32 applciation". Shouldn't the app run as 64-bit since it was compiled with "AnyCPU"? How can I get this to work? I am using .NET 3.5.

  • Setting the content-type of requests performed by jQuery jqGrid

    I am using the latest version of jqGrid: 3.6.4 This seems like a simple problem (or at least it did before I spent a few hours on it): When the grid sends a request to the server (to a controller action), its content-type is always: application/x-www-form-urlencoded; charset=UTF-8 and I would like it to be: application/json; charset=utf-8 but I can find no way of setting the content-type (there is no contentType option as you would find on a $.ajax call for example). So just to clarify, I am not asking how to set the content-type on a jQuery server request, but specifically using jqGrid, which does not provide an obvious option for doing this. Thanks, Nigel.

  • How to make JQGrid scroll properly in IE6?

    I've got a JQGrid that needs to scroll. It works fine in Firefox, but in IE6, the grid stays stationary while the rest of the content scrolls underneath it. What might be a complicating factor is that the grid is inside tabs, inside a dialog. I've googled all over the place, but I can't find a solution for this problem, so I turn to Stackoverflow. Does anyone here know what could cause this behavior? I'm using jqgrid 3.5.3, should that matter.

    I am asking my self many times before start writting a new app or data access library , should I use LinqToSql or classic ADO.net , I have used both and the development time I spend on building an app with Linq To sql is like the 1/3 compared to ADO.net. The only think I like using Linq to sql is that I dont have to design the domain objects Linq does that for me and saves me from spend my time on boring things :P But is Linq to sql suitable for large scale projects , is there an overhead that we can avoid when using ADO.net ?
