• Cacti is not monitoring the correct host... How do I change SNMP target?

  I have been handed a Cacti server that monitors a few hosts. I noticed that three of the targets were displaying the exact same data - the cacti machine, machine a and machine b. After doing a bit of digging, I noticed that machine a and machine b had "Local Linux Machine" set under "Host Template". I have since changed the host template to "Generic SNMP-enabled Host", however, all the graphs still only display data from the local cacti machine (Updates every 5 minutes - I changed this yesterday - 12 hours). I can't think what else is wrong and was wondering if anyone knows/can recommend anything?

• Run scp as ubuntu@ copying to Ubuntu system with correct permissions?

  I ssh into a ubuntu box with username "ubuntu" and I can become root without entering a password via "sudo su". How can I scp files onto this box using the ubuntu@ username? It does not allow me to do so using root@. The error is: scp: /etc/...: Permission denied I can do this same task in rsync by using --rsync-path="sudo rsync" for example.

  Very noob question - all of this is new to me - not really sure how to get started. Overview: I'm taking over an existing wep project that has been developed in aptana and deployed in xampp setup - I also have access to Git repository on local directory. I want to import the web application into aptana, run it and begin updating/editing - bit of steep learning curve for me What is the best way to import? And what should I import? What should it look like in aptanan? I tried importing what I think is the root file from the git folder ("existing folder as new project")- it contains things like css, doc, img and js.   I am using gnome-terminal with bash. When I set xterm-256color for $TERM and in .tmux.conf most of the things work but when I try to change the colorscheme of vim the things mess up. When I set screen-256color for $TERM and in .tmux.conf the colors work ok but most of the keys go mad. I've tried some of the suggestions from the last link but when I ssh the arrows crash even on the command line.. So how to configure tmux?

  We have a Windows 7 enterprise desktop data entry app for mobile (laptop) users with local SQL Express 2008 R2 Express db that syncs data with an SQL Server 2008 R2 Server db. Authentication is required before syncing the data. The existing group of users are part of the organisation's domain so normal scenario and they connect to the Sql Server directly. But there are plans for a second group of app users who belong to various partner organisations so they are outside our domain and have their own various separate domains/accounts. The aim is to deploy the desktop app to them and they will periodically sync data to our SQL Server. What I am uncertain of: Is it possible to authenticate users from another domain? Can permissions be managed via Active Directory etc? Which authentication protocol should be used in this scenario? Windows, Forms, SQL, etc? The IT people are requesting users of the system be managed via Active Directory. Is it possible to manage the external domain users access via Active Directory?

  I currently have some systems that multiple people have access to for administration purposes. We've modified the history log so that we capture 2k lines of history per user to help aid in who has done what on the system. However, we would additionally like to capture all keyboard input when we (the administrators) log in, and log it to a file so we can see what changes were made to files once people go into vi to edit them. It will also aid us in documenting when we are going through a compile of software and the like. How can I do this? CentOS 5.4 if it makes a difference.

• Apache2 Virtual Host broken; displayed default index.html on subdomain, but correct content on www.subdomain

  I've got a Linode configured as a Ubuntu 10.04.2 web server with Apache 2.2.14. I have a total of 4 sites, all defined under /etc/apache2/sites-available as virtual hosts. All sites are almost identical clones for configuration. And all sites but my last work successfully. default: (www.)exampleadnetwork.com (www.)example.com reseller.example.com trouble: client1.example.com I keep getting this page when I visit the client1.example.com site: It works! This is the default web page for this server. The web server software is running but no content has been added, yet. In my ports.conf file I have the NameVirtualHost correctly set to my IP address on port 80. If I access the "www.sub.example.com" alias the site works! If I access it without the www I see the "It Works" excerpt posted above. Even apache2ctl -S shows that my vhost file parses correctly and is added to the mix.   I need to save a bunch of illustrations for web use, and I cannot find any 'crop to art dimensions' option when saving them. I've therefore been creating a new artboard for each illustration by clicking on the art with the artboard tool, then deleting the old artboard. This works OK except the new artboard ignores the stroke, so I then have to go back and tweak all the edges of the artboard before saving, or else the stroke edges get cut off. This gets old after hundreds of illustrations. Is there an easier way to do it?

I need to install the Wireless and Graphics drivers, but the HP site is offering me both ATI and Intel graphics drivers (at 102MB and 470(!)MB) a pop, as well as Intel, Broadcomm, RealTek and Atheros wireless drivers. Is there a bit of software that will tell me what devices are in the machine so I don't have to go through, trial-and-error and find which is the right driver for the hardware?

I didn't found anything helpful by reading all related RFCs, there just NAS-IP-Addess or NAS-Identifier is required, but this attributes usually represents IP address of the NAS and this address can not be used as a robust identifier, because it's often possible to fall into the case when 2 different NASes are running on the same server and this attributes can not be customized. Any ideas?

• What is the correct approach i should use for an application that requires amazon S3 uploads and SimpleDB data management?

  I am developing an application for iOS and that is going smoothly, the problem is that I am very new at server sided things. I am totally confused about how to correctly use Amazon Web Services for this purpose. What I want to do is very simple. I want my application to be able to query a servlet hosted in EC2 to be able to retrieve pictures and data based on some criteria from S3 and SImpleDB respectively. Also the application should be able to upload pictures into a S3 bucket and register the information in the SImpleDB. My main concerns are security and costs, So far i was using Amazon Token Vending Machine but I haven't been successful when trying to customize it, and while researching I discovered that on the long run it is very expensive. The ultimate goal is to handle a "social" picture service for my iOS application. Being able to register new users, authenticate these users. See what permissions they have to which pictures from the bucked. And all this without having to worry about Third party people from accessing the private pictures of my users. Sorry for this question but I am really clueless about how to handle this... I have tried reading many articles but all these server stuff looks very scary.

  Hi All, Has anybody installed git and ControlControl and got CruiseControl to pull from GitHub on a window 2003 server. I keep getting public key errors (access denied) - Which is good i suppose as that confirms git is talking to github. However what is not good is that I dont not know where to install the rsa keys so they will be picked up by the running process (git in the context of cc.net). Any help would save me a lot of hair! I have tried installing the keys into; c:\Program Files\Git.ssh Whereby running git bash and cd ~ take me to: c:\Program Files\Git Thanks in advance

  I need to generate the form seen here using Python/reportlab. http://www.flickr.com/photos/49740282@N06/4563137758/sizes/o/ I am attempting to do this by creating a custom flowable for the header at the top (with the boxes drawn) and then having a table flowable for the jewelry table below. What shows as the JEWELRY table for this example could potentially be multiple tables. I am having trouble getting my drawn header to "flow". It gets drawn, but then my table data overlays it instead of appearing below it. This is my first project with reportlab. Before I really get into debugging this, I would like to know from someone with reportlab experience if my approach is correct here. Thanks!

• Get correct output from UTF-8 stored in VarChar using Entity Framework or Linq2SQL?

  Borland StarTeam seems to store its data as UTF-8 encoded data in VarChar fields. I have an ASP.NET MVC site that returns some custom HTML reports using the StarTeam database, and I would like to find a better solution for getting the correct data, for a rewrite with MVC2. I tried a few things with Encoding GetBytes and GetString, but I couldn't get it to work (we use mostly Delphi at work); then I figured out a T-SQL function to return a NVarChar from UTF-8 stored in a VarChar, and created new SQL views which return the data as NVarChar, but it's slow. The actual problem appears like this: “description†instead of “description”, in both SSMS and in a webpage when using Linq2SQL Is there a way to get the proper data out of these fields using Entity Framework or Linq2SQL?

My question is: how could I find the correct "url" to enter in the form to login? I used my Google OpenID account for StackOverflow and it works just fine.   In my Silverlight app I want a multi-line text box to expand every time the user hits Enter. The difficult part is how to calculate the correct height based on the number of text lines. I have tried the following but the textbox becomes too small: box.Height = box.FontSize*lineCount + box.Padding.Top + box.Padding.Bottom + box.BorderThickness.Top + box.BorderThickness.Bottom; What am I missing here?   I'm working on a data warehouse and I'm trying to figure out how to best verify that data from our data cleansing (normalized) database makes it into our data marts correctly. I've done some searches, but the results so far talk more about ensuring things like constraints are in place and that you need to do data validation during the ETL process (E.g. dates are valid, etc.). The dimensions were pretty easy as I could easily either leverage the primary key or write a very simple and verifiable query to get the data. The fact tables are more complex. Any thoughts? We're trying to make this very easy for a subject matter export to run a couple queries, see some data from both the data cleansing database and the data marts, and visually compare the two to ensure they are correct.
