  • Confuse with OpenGL, SFML, and its library

    I am a beginning to enter the world of game development. Lately, I researched that "OPENGL" is one of the tools to use in graphics, then I found out about "SFML" (I think that its a library or something that uses opengl). I am so confuse because all books/ sites said using "GLUT", but many people/fellow developers said that I must use a more updated one like "SFML" but sfml has few/none tutorials. What I am trying to say is "how to create own library or something like your own glut or sfml", and why does opengl has no source code? And how can I use the EXACT(not glut/sfml) opengl in my c++ program? I am so confuse....

    Sytmptom:   You have a list or document library page (allitems.aspx) and you are trying to add a Web part.  You get an error message: Unable to add selected Web part(s).  (name of Web part): The file is not checked out.  You must first check out this document before making changes. Publishing features are not turned on and it is not a page that lives in a library accessible by the GUI. Solution:  Open the site in SharePoint Designer and check out the page. Then, check in the page after modifications are done.  It seems like this is just a bug.

So far I've turned to trust boost and found: This boost library But I'm wondering if it there are some alternatives. I use boost a lot and (while I like it) I find that it sometimes takes me longer to figure out how to use the generic code than to write my own...not-so-generic code. (Ya, ya...I know. I should be less lazy). But anyway, advice appreciated! :)

    I currently have a Dell Studio XPS 13 laptop connected to a 24" HP monitor (w2448hc). Im thinking on getting a second one, however am wondering what i need for the setup (hardware wise). Also I was wondering it there is any down side to it, or something i should be aware of. For example, image quality loss, GPU overloading, or anything important I should know. More than anything Im interested in your advice. Also the monitors do have built in speakers (HDMI sound output), is the sound going to be reproduced by only one monitor or both?   • Server configuration advice for new site that could get lots of traffic within 6m

    We're setting up a new web2.0 type site with elements of e-commerce. Budget is kind of tight. Due to the nature of the site and promotions, etc., we expect traffic could ramp up fairly quickly. Looking for advice for a good configuration to start with, we' looking to co-lo with CalPop in downtown LA. We've looked at Dell, ABMX.com, and got a quote from CalPop (they make their own servers as they also do managed hosting). Price range has been anywhere from about $1200-$3300 per server. We're thinking to start with a web server and db server, both with mirrored drives. It would be nice to stay under about 2k per server if possible. Min configuration for each would probably be a quad-core with 8GB Ram. Thinking to run Windows Server 2008 R2 (Web Edition?) and SQL Server 2008. Looking for advice on the best server configurations and/or brands that fit the budget, yet will allow us to smoothly scale as traffic increases. Reliability is also pretty important. Also wondering if a switch/router is necessary or useful to connect the two servers.

  • Development/runtime Licensing mechanism for a C# class library?

    I'm developing a .Net class library (a data provider) and I'm starting to think about how I would handle licensing the library to prospective purchasers. By licensing, I mean the mechanics of trying to prevent my library from being used by those who haven't purchased it, not the software license (i.e., Apache, Gnu, etc). I've never dealt with licensing, and in the past, I've always developed apps, not libraries. I don't want to make things difficult for my customers; know it is not possible to make it ironclad. Just some mechanism that gives me decent protection without making the customer jump through hoops or gnash their teeth. I think the mechanism would check for a valid license when the class is being used in development mode, and not in runtime mode (when the customer's software is released to their customers). I think libraries are typically sold per developer, but I'm not sure how that could be accomplished without making the mechanism odious for my customers; maybe that gets left to the honor system. I Googled this and found many approaches. Ideally, I'd like to do something that is generally accepted and common, the "right" way class libraries are licensed, if that exists, rather than making my customers deal with yet another license mechanism. A firm push in the right direction will be greatly appreciated!

    I'm trying to build some code on Ubuntu 10.04 LTS that uses OpenSSL 1.0.0. When I run make, it invokes g++ with the "-lssl" option. The source includes: #include <openssl/bio.h> #include <openssl/buffer.h> #include <openssl/des.h> #include <openssl/evp.h> #include <openssl/pem.h> #include <openssl/rsa.h> I ran: $ sudo apt-get install openssl Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree Reading state information... Done openssl is already the newest version. 0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 3 not upgraded. But I guess the openssl package doesn't include the library.     Can someone please explain in easy terms what is static library linking vs dynamic library linking other one has a larger memory map than the other or that the static library is used to compile/link with the program that will use it versus being loaded at runtime?   • Encrypted Windows 7 & Linux Advice Wanted

    I would like to set up my laptop to dual boot Arch Linux and Windows 7 with file sharing and encryption. Just wanted some advice on going about this because I have not dealt with encryption nor file sharing. I have two 500GB hard drives, and this is my plan: Install Windows 7 across both hard drives Use a live CD to wipe out Windows boot loader and replace with Grub Legacy Use live CD to wipe out second hard drive and re-size the Windows partition located on first hard drive Install Arch Linux along side with Windows 7 on first hard drive, all remaining space goes to home folder as ext2 Install truecrypt and ext2fsd Concerns: Is this the most efficient way to share files between both OSes? Or should I just be using NTFS to store all my data? How would the file permissions work when sharing files between Windows and Linux? Is there a high likley hood of corruption, and what is the ease of backing up files from an encrypted disk? Anything I should look out for, conflict between Grub and Truecrypt? Thank you for any advice, and feel free to post any links you might find useful to me. I am trying to plan this out so I can minimize downtime as I do not want to spend more than a night on this, nor do I want to run into a major problem some time in the future.
