• Problem with Bash script: 'declare: not found'

  I had a script which was running fine but when I ran it today, it says declare: not found. I am using bash shell and path at the starting of the script is correct. Two flagged lines in my script are as follows: declare -a RESPONSE RESPONSE=($RESULT) It also says ( is unexpected but I guess that is coming up because of the first error. Worth mentioning point is when I type in declare directly works fine. declare | grep USER shows USER=ashfame USERNAME=ashfame values="$SVN_BASH_USERNAME"; So, whats wrong here?

• cpu usage and near to crash when i plug in the power cable

  i have had this problem since i installed ubuntu 12.4 on my laptop (on all of distro i have this problem execpt of backtrack) my problem is when i start my linux while it connect to power source there is no problem everything works fine . but when i disconnect and wants to work with battery it crash i mean everything work tooooo slowly and my cpu usage goes to 100 ... it happen too when i start my linux with battery and want to connect the power source to it .... it happens again . i updated my distro and now on i have 12.10 on my laptop but it has this problem . my lap top is hp probook 4520s my graphic card is ati radeon 530 v and i installed catalyst control center on my lap top and it works fine but the only problem is that what i said ...is it relate to my graphic card ???

• Totem streams only certain video from iphone

  I recently installed a plug-in for Totem movie player. This allows the app to receive and play AirPlay-streamed video from iphone to totem player: http://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2011/01/airplay-video-playback-comes-to-totem Actually this works fine with youtube videos. But when it comes to other apps in iPhone (such as Digital TV App) the streaming does not work. In the app I can choose Totem Player, but Totem Player itself stays empty, i.e. nothing will be streamed. As mentioned choosing Totem Player for youtube video works fine. Do you guys have any idea what makes the difference that it works only for youtube?

• Google Webmaster Tools Data Highlighter says "Failed to load data, please try again later"

  I seem to be unable to access the data highlighter in Google Webmaster Tools since I attempted to start a new highlight on a page. Clicking the red Start Highlighting button to open the tagger did nothing, so I refreshed. Now, the page loads without the middle content section, then a few seconds later shows the following error: Failed to load data, please try again later. I can't get any of the middle section to load, even the list of current pages/page sets that have been highlighted—this error shows. I thought it may be a Google service outage, but other sites' data highlighters work fine. It also seems coincidental that it stopped working after I attempted to start highlighting—I was able to list the existing pages and page sets fine before that, and still am able to access the service on other sites. I've tried clearing browser data and have tried Google Chrome as well—same problem. What's happened?

• How do I resolve "No JSON object could be decoded" on mythbuntu live CD?

  I have been running a MythTV frontend on my laptop for some time against a MythTV backend installed in Linux Mint 12 on another computer, and everything works fine. Now, I'm trying out the Mythbuntu Live CD (12.04.1 32-bit) on the laptop, to turn it into a dedicated front end. It's connecting to the network just fine, and I can see my server. When I click on the frontend icon on the desktop, it asks me for the security code, which I've verified against mythtv-setup on the server. However, when I test that code, it shows the error message "No JSON object could be decoded". I've looked in the control center to see if there's something else I should be setting up. The message above implies to me that it can't find the server, but I can find no place in the control center to tell it where to find my myth backend, which I find a little odd. Does the live CD not work against a backend server on another machine?

• Wireless internet connection connects but internet does not work (no packets received). Wired does.

  When I connect my PC via ethernet cable to my ADSL router it works fine. When I connect via Wireless it connects and the internet will work for a random amount of time and then stop working. It stays connected with a strong signal but no packets are received. My laptop/iphone are right next to it and wireless works fine. If I open the Wireless USB status, it says it is connected to my SSID with full strength (54 mps - I am 3 meteres away from my router) and the activty shows as Packets 594 SENT and 105 RECEIVED (this goes up VERY slowly) I have tried the following: Turned off anitvirus and firewall completely. Tested the wifi signal- I am writing this on my laptop which is next to my PC and also has full wifi strength. Tried a different wireless adapter - I dug out an old PCI wireless card - it does the exact same thing. Compared all wireless settings to my laptop. I can ping google.com and it replies (sometimes with packet loss) When I reboot the PC it will connect for a minute or two (random time) and then just stops again. I tried Firefox, IE etc. no joy I have updated all latest versions (Netgear WG111v2) and drivers Checked Event Log - nothing unusual Ping the router (and even connect as admin for the few minutes when the internet does work) Changed the MTU down to 1200 using DrTCP Checked Device Manager for conflicts - none. I ping the router from the PC (192.168.0.10 - 192.168.0.1) and it replies with 4 packets. BUT, on my router admin page (which I access via http on my laptop wirelessly) - if I ping 192.168.0.10 all packets timeout (pinging my laptop 192.168.0.12 works fine) My router admin page shows the leased IP address for 192.168.0.10 (ie it is definitely talking to the router initially) Now I am out of ideas - please help. I think it is an OS/Software issue as I have tried 2 different wireless adapaters (PCI and USB) with the same result but all other wireless devices work fine around mine). It's not the firewall. It is getting assigned an IP address correctly (my PC gets 192.168.0.10, my laptop is .12) It is assigned by DHCP. As soon as I plug in the ethernet cable it all works fine. Repairing the adapter sometimes helps but it will always stop working after a random time. The wireless adapter always shows as connected with Excellent signal but the internet does not work. I am running Windows XP SP3 and have tried a Netgear WG111v2 USB adapter. Thanks in advance! UPDATE: The internet seems to be working, it is just either sending packets too small or slow to work (some small pages load bits of them very slowly but then hang). • Flash video streaming choppy for Chrome, alright for Firefox

  I'm using Ubuntu 12.04.1, Chrome 21 and Firefox 15. Flash player 11.2 has been installed, and I've just started using Ubuntu... yesterday. And I'm using a Lenovo T61. The problem is that it doesn't matter if it's youtube or vimeo or some other flash player, it streams fine on chrome but every 30 seconds or so, there is a pause in video playback (with audio continuing) before it catches up, skipping quite a few seconds of video. It works perfectly fine in Firefox, and I've tried disabling PepperFlash/libpepflashplayer.so in Chrome but it doesn't seem to affect the performance. Anyone know how to work around this? It's more a problem of convenience because I don't like the idea of having to switch between Chrome and Firefox just to watch videos.

• MP4 files show up but won't stream to xbox 360

  I set up a basic media server to stream to my 360 using uShare. Here are the instructions I used: http://linuxexpresso.wordpress.com/2011/01/02/howto-ubuntu-upnp-server-to-xbox-360/. I can stream avi files fine but I cannot stream mp4s. When I go to videos on the xbox, I can see all of the videos and folders but when I click play for an mp4 nothing happens. On my ubuntu desktop I can click on the mp4 file and it plays fine. And if I take that file, stick it on a thumb drive and plug it directly into the xbox the mp4 will play off the thumb drive. I'm lost for why it won't work through ushare. Any ideas?

First it came with Unity , then with a zeal of trying other Desktop Environments and i have installed gnome-shell and no conflicts , works fine.Then i have gone through Lubuntu and Xubuntu as usually . But some panel problem started with Lubuntu raised and i have removed Lubuntu DE from my PC . but that thing got conflicted with my Unity , Gnome and Cinnamon & they are not working . these three are not having only of their Panels . I just see any empty desktop . Currently only KDE and XFCE can run fine with my Ubuntu 12.04.But i want to back with Unity , Gnome and cinnamon also .

• DSL modem problem in 11.10

  Earlier I used Windows 7 and the modem used to work absolutely fine. Even when it got disconnected it used to reconnect automatically without any trouble. But then I installed Ubuntu 11.10 on dual-boot and set up the modem connection properly but the modem now disconnects much more frequently (earlier it disconnected once in 5 hours or so and after Ubuntu in 5 minutes!). Also once disconnected, it does not reconnect even when I have checked the "Connect Automatically" button. I have to restart the system to reconnect it. I the clean installed Windows and modem works perfectly fine again. What is the reason for this and how can I solve this? I really want to use Ubuntu but due to this problem I can't.

• Mod_rewrite and urls that don't end with .php

  I'm trying to use Mod_rewrite to hide the .php extensions of my pages. However, it refuses to do any rewriting unless the input url ends with .php, which makes that impossible. I can confirm that rewriting works fine as long as the url has .php at the end. RewriteRule a\.php b\.php Works, while RewriteRule a\.html b\.html does not. How can I turn off this behavior and allow it to rewrite all urls? I'm on a shared host so whatever I do has to be done from a .htaccess file. Update: There seems to be some confusion about what I'm asking here. The question is not about how to write the rule, the question is about server configuration. The rule I'm using is fine, I can test that locally. But the server I'm working with is somehow configured so that mod_rewrite doesn't attempt to rewrite anything that doesn't end with .php

• Dead keys in emacs with ibus

  I've just upgraded to 13.10 and noticed that dead keys are not working anymore in emacs (a keystroke to ' leads emacs to display <dead-acute> is undefined instead of waiting to the next key. In addition, use of the compose key leads to <Multi_key> is undefined and it is impossible to use keybindings such as <M-^>. Other applications work fine as far as I can tell. A brief search on the internet suggested to (require 'isotransl) to .emacs. This solves the first issue, but not the other ones. Another possible workaround seen on the web is to launch emacs with an empty XMODIFIERS variable, as XMODIFIERS='' emacs, instead of XMODIFIERS= @im=ibus which seems to be the default in 13.10. Then everything works fine, but it looks like a kludge. Is there a way to make emacs work with ibus on this subject?

• Touchpad stopped working after suspend, never woke up again

  I have a Toshiba L650, installed (dual boot) Ubuntu 10.10. Touchpad worked fine until I tried for the first time to suspend (I closed the screen on the keyboard). The system never woke up again. Reset (battery disconnected and then reconnected), restart of the system, disk checks, and so on. After that, everything works fine except the Touchpad, completely dead. Rebooted again. • Share on Facebook does not show thumbnail images

  I have a PHP application which has a "Share on Facebook" button that, On the development server shows the thumbnail images correctly and allows the user to select between them On the live server, it does NOT show the thumbnail images at all. • Sound distortion in Ubuntu 14.04

  I recently installed Ubuntu 14.04 on my Dell XPS 15 (L502X). Previously I had Ubuntu 12.04 installed on the laptop along with Windows 8.1 dual boot. The sound worked perfectly fine in Ubuntu 12.04 and is working fine in Windows 8.1. Of late, I have been experiencing sound distortion coming from the subwoofer at moderately high volume levels. At the same level I am unable to reproduce the same effect in Windows 8.1. Also, I did a clean install of Ubuntu 14.04 over 12.04. Can anyone please confirm this and help me with this? Thanks

• MTP Won't Work With Newer Ubuntu

  I have a Philips GoGear Vibe 4 GB, set to MTP mode, as it's always been. This works fine with older versions of Ubuntu and works fine with Windows, but doesn't work with newer versions of Ubuntu. The version history is like this: 12.04 - works 12.10 - works 13.04 - doesn't work 14.04 - doesn't work Windows 7 - works When you plug the MP3 player in Ubuntu the file manager opens the root of the device, which contains the folder "internal storage". When you click on "internal storage" to open it, the file manager just hangs. And if you try to unmount the MP3 player, that process hangs too, until you just unplug it. In Windows when you click on internal storage, it opens and shows all the files it contains. And in the earlier versions of Ubuntu it just worked. Any ideas? Thanks.

  I've had Ubuntu installed, using WUBI, for some time now - a few months or so. It's worked fine until now, allowing me to login, use it's features etc... Two days ago, I turned on my computer and started Ubuntu. It loaded the GUI fine but just showed the loading screen and even after waiting 10 mins on this screen it still wouldn't show me the login page. • is gnome 3 is slow or my machine?

  I have Dell XPS 15 i7 - 2360 with nvidia 525M (1GB) with optimus running Ubuntu 12.10 64 bit and have bumblebee installed for optimus. Recently I installed Gnome Shell to give it a try and found it sort of lagging under few scenarios though rest all is butter smooth. When I click on Date gnome 3 it appears as if a second has elapsed before the window is drawn. But others panel items like network or volume looks fine. In gnome 3 when I'm on dash with (window preview) if I remove any of the windows before the remaining windows reshuffle it takes about 2 seconds (noticeable clearly). Everything else is fine in both unity and Gnome Shell. What is causing this slowness? Is Gnome Shell is really slower?

• Changing mouse behaviour in EOG

  When I open a photo in eog I can easily zoom with the mouse mouse wheel. This is kind of nice but since I have a touchpad with two-fingered scrolling and horizontal scrolling I'd rather scroll in the image and zoom by using Ctrl+Mouse Wheel? I basically want the same behaviour as in evince: Horizontal Scroll and Normal Scroll navigate within the image and Ctrl + Mouse Wheel zooms in and out. Is this possible somehow? [EDIT] I just figured out that what I want is already implemented: I can pan the image by using Ctrl + Mouse Wheel. This is fine as it is the behaviour I want only with the Ctrl inverted. But I cannot pan to the left. Up, down and right work fine. What's the problem?

  UBUNTU 11.10 NAUTILUS 3.2.1 We ARE able to see Windows PCs on our network from Ubuntu's NAUTILUS, yet we are NOT able to access their shares from NAUTILUS, even though they work fine with each other, i.e. each windows PC IS able access the other Windows PC's shares just fine. Please infer from this information the answers to any questions about our situation you may have. Note this is a default/pristine configuration, i.e. no changes have been made whatsoever. • Wine: How to open a whole folder, not a single file?

  I am using foobar2000 under my Ubuntu with Wine since… I don't know. Now, with the new Ubuntu 12.10 release foobar2000 was not starting anymore correctly so I reinstalled it (foobar2000 1.1.15, wine 1.4). Naturally I have to set up my foobar2000 configuration from scratch but thats not a problem at all. Everything works fine except adding whole folders to the music library using the Add-button under "File-Preferences-Media Library". Problem is one can only open files with the Add-dialog but not a whole folder. Under Windows everything works fine. Editing the foobar2000 configuration file ([foobar2000-folder]/configuration/Core.cfg) by hand does not work… I also tried it with a hex editor. :( So… what can I do? Thanks. :)
