  • Stopping infinite loops of alerts in Mozilla

    This may be dumb question. But somehow this engaged me for sometime and after some basic research I couldn't find an answer. I was learning JavaScript and a code I wrote had an error and has been outputting infinite loops of alerts. I tried the normal shortcuts like Ctrl + C and Ctrl + Z but they didn't work. So I was thinking if there is any solution to this other than ending the browser process (like by doing a Ctrl + Alt + Del).

  • How can i export a folder of Firefox Bookmarks into a text file

    I want to clean up my bookmark folders by getting rid of duplicated/links. i have created a program which will import 2 text files which contains a URL like this File 1: http://www.google/com http://anime.stackexchange.com/ https://www.fanfiction.net/guidelines/ https://www.fanfiction.net/anime/Magical-Girl-Lyrical-Nanoha/?&srt=1&g1=2&lan=1&r=103&s=2 File 2: http://scifi.stackexchange.com/ http://scifi.stackexchange.com/questions/56142/why-didnt-dumbledore-just-hunt-voldemort-down http://anime.stackexchange.com/ http://scifi.stackexchange.com/questions/5650/how-can-the-doctor-be-poisoned the program compares the 2 lists and creates a single master list with duplicate URLs removed. Now i have a few Backup bookmark folders in Firefox which on occasion i'll bookmark all tabs into a new folder with the date of the backup before i close off tabs or do reset my PC. each folder can have between 1000-2000 bookmarks, sometimes there are a bunch of pages which keep getting bookmarked, ie, i have ~50 pages on the Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha Wiki on different spells, character and terminology which i commonly look back on. I'd like to know how i can export a bookmark folder so i have a list of URLs similar to what i use in my program

    What's the best way to detect event support in Firefox. Opera, Internet Explorer and Safari/Chrome all support eventName in object, but Firefox doesn't. My test case is this: javascript:alert("onclick" in document.createElement("a")) Which alerts true when entered into the address bar on the aforementioned browsers, and alerts false for Firefox. I figured out a solution using typeof on an event like so: var a = document.createElement("a"); a.setAttribute("onclick", ""); alert(typeof(a.onclick) == "function"); Is there a better method of detecting event support in Firefox?

Actually, when firefox loads a document, it makes a call to google to determine whether the requested site is phish or not. If I get when this happens, I can bypass it. Meaning that I would not allow firefox to show its error page. Can anyone show me the way? -Abhay

    Note: this is about Firefox extension, not a js general question. In Firefox extension project I need my javascript object to be initialized just once per Firefox window. Otherwise each time I open my window a new timers will be engaged, new properties will be used, so everything will start from scratch. hope example below will demystify my question :) var StupidExtension { statusBarValue: "Not Initialized Yet", startup: function () { ... // Show statusBarValue in Status Bar Panel }, initTimerToRetrieveStatusBarValueFromNetwork: function () { ... } } so each time you hit Ctrl+N a new window you will see "Not Initialized Yet" and then new timer will be fired, so after some time it retrieve data from network you will see value also on second window and so on. Ideally would be to have just a single timer function running and updating all status bar panels in all Firefox windows. Of course I can do some caching, like saving the value in prefs or some other storage, then show it from there. But I feel like this is artificial. So the question will be is there "native" technique of making static some parts of the object among all Firefox window instances?

  • Firefox Does NOT get local site cookie

    This is a weird one. We have a production server (Server 2008) and two staging servers (Server 2008 and Server 2003) I have sites on all of these. They all use cookies. On the Production server when browsing to our site www.supernovainteractive.com there is a cookie that detects when you visted the site and it will not refresh the logo animation (top left hand side) on clicking to another page. This works for all browsers on the production server. I’m not sure what’s going on but for some reason cookies are not working on one site in the 2008 staging server only. This is when browsing using Firefox (3.6.3) they work fine on all other browsers (IE, Chrome, Safari, Opera) In addition, the 2003 staging server works fine. You can test on the Supernova Interactive site by noticing the logo in the top left corner. It uses a cookie to detect if you’ve already seen the animation. Once you’ve seen it once, it doesn’t animate again until tomorrow. Currently, it’s animating every time. I have opened an outside facing port so others can see the issue. Http://exchange.supernova.com:10009 Any ideas on this one? Firewalls are off on the server. Notice you do not get a cookie from Exchange.supernova.com.

    When you refresh/reload a page or use the back button, Firefox is kind enough to repopulate your inputs with what was entered before you navigated away. Though this is a nice feature it does not trigger my jquery validation and the unsaved changes warning I add to my pages. Is there a way to either disable this feature in Firefox (without renaming every control every time) or capture the firefox events?

    I need to write a firefox extension that creates a server socket (I think that's what it's called) and returns the browser's current url when a client application (running on the same computer) sends it a request. The thing is that I have no Java/Javascript background at all and I'm pressed for time so I am trying to hack something together from code samples. So far I've been mildly successful. Ideally I would like the output to be returned as a response when the client sends a request to the server socket with a passphrase. How do I go about doing that? Is doing this a good idea? Does it create security vulnerabilities on the computer? How can I block connections to the socket from other computers? What is a good place to read about javascript sockets? My google searches have been pretty fruitless but then maybe I'm not using the right keywords.

  • Automating Firefox configuration settings

    Hi All, During web development work, I need to be able to quickly switch various config settings in Firefox. In particular I need to be able to: 1) Switch off cookies 2) Switch off javascript 3) Switch my user agent (I have the user-agent switcher add-on installed) and then back again. Instead of doing this manually, it would be great if i could add a "macro" button to my toolbar that I could simply click to toggle the three settings above. Anyone know if this is possible? Btw - Firefox Profiles doesn't really cut it. You can't dynamically switch profiles within a specific Firefox instance, which I need to be able to do. Btw2 - I got excited when i saw Greasemonkey, Chicken Foot, but it looks like these can only automate browsing/DOM tasks, and not with firefox configuration settings. Thanks Richard.

There are quite some questions on SO about it too, but none of them provide a legitimate solution, so can someone just tell me if they have background-size: cover; issues on firefox too? So basically tell me 3 things: 1. Why is it happening? 2. What is a good alternative to it? 3. Is this happening to you too? On Firefox browsers of course. I'm going to try that using File I/O, I was under the impression that what I was looking for was in scriptable file I/O and thus disabled.

    I want to use TCP for DNS, to bypass my ISP's slow and broken DNS servers. I'm not using (and don't want to use) a proxy. Note: I want to use DNS over TCP because if I use it over udp, no matter what server I set, I get answers from my ISP's DNS. Notice that I will fiercely downvote whoever suggests: programs to do TCP over DNS, the setting in about:config to make DNS go over the proxy too: I'm not using a proxy, use another DNS: I've already set up Google as my DNS, but I get intercepted.     Pages at the https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox site often feature buttons that say "Add to Firefox". Clicking on such a button causes a Firefox extension to be downloaded and installed. I am looking for a convenient way to limit this action to the download step only, so that in the end I am left with the downloaded *.xpi file in my disk. Thanks! P.S. The following approach is not only inconvenient: it doesn't work!. Inspect the HTML for the button, and extract a URL like https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/downloads/latest/1234/addon-1234-latest.xpi?src=search give or take the stuff after .xpi. at the command-line prompt, download this URL with wget or curl. This download attempt just hangs. (Even if it didn't, I'd like to find a less cumbersome approach.)

    The problem: If i access SharePoint from Windows 7 with IE8 or Chrome5 - I must wait for like a minute to get a response. If i use other Windows 7 with IE8, just the same - just wait a MINUTE. If i use Firefox3.6 on W7 machine - page opens up instantly. Now switch to IE rendering engine in Firefox, you will have to wait just as with IE. Now i tried IE8 on XP SP3 - page opens up instantly. I tried IE8 on Windows Server 2003 SP2 (machine on which SharePoint is hosted) - page opens up instantly. You have suggested deleting the lock files in my profile, but, I don't have a profile. I was trying to fix the problem in question http://superuser.com/questions/3275/firefox-on-mac-slow-slow-slow by deleting my profile, so I deleted it, and this came up. So I cannot delete the lock files because they don't exist.
