• Top causes of slow ssh logins

  I'd love for one of you smart and helpful folks to post a list of common causes of delays during an ssh login. Specifically, there are 2 spots where I see a range from instantaneous to multi-second delays. Between issuing the ssh command and getting a login prompt and between entering the passphrase and having the shell load Now, specifically I'm looking at ssh details only here. Obviously network latency, speed of the hardware and OSes involved, complex login scripts, etc can cause delays. For context I ssh to a vast multitude of linux distributions and some Solaris hosts using mostly Ubuntu, CentOS, and MacOS X as my client systems. Almost all of the time, the ssh server configuration is unchanged from the OS's default settings. What ssh server configurations should I be interested in? Are there OS/kernel parameters that can be tuned? Login shell tricks? Etc?

• How can I edit unuusal clipboard content? [on hold]

  I'd like to edit application specific clipboard content, with an application specific format. There are clipboard managers that let me edit the plain text content, but I'd like to access clipboard content that application use for internal cut and paste. An example would be when you copy something from a web page in Firefox. When you look at the different formats in a clipboard viewer, there are three or so formats starting with "moz", with content that is not plain text. I'd like to edit that content before pasting it back into Firefox. Can this be done?

• Java in a browser on Ubuntu

  So I am running an old version of Ubuntu and all of a sudden, my capabilities to run Java in a browser have stopped and it no longer executes properly. Someone else set this up for me, but I believe it's running icedtea plugin 6 and jre 6. What would be the best ways to troubleshoot this? I suppose I could try downloading icedtea 7 and jre 7 (sun or openjdK) and see if that works? Also, in general, is installing icedtea, installing a java runtime environment, and then symlinking something to the plugins directory of your browser the best way to get Java working on most Linux systems? Unfortunately, there are many guides all over the internet offering totally different solutions, but this is probably the most common I've seen (not sure how well it works). My main use is downloading an executing .jnlp files (browsers should open it automatically). Although, I've seen people using "javasw" to run the file outside of a browser. Is this something I could consider doing? I can't seem to find javasw packaged for my version of Ubuntu.

• How to delete a faulty FTP connection in Aptana?

  Hi, I just created an FTP connection in Aptana in which I made a mistake. I told Aptana to remember it anyway while I looked up the correct data (user/password and such). Now I want to edit the FTP connection but as soon as I click it tries to connect which results in an error. If I try to delete it, same story, it tries to connect and I get the error and the delete doesn't go through. So, I have a non working FTP connection that I can't delete nor edit.How do I get rid of this thing? Or how do I correct it? Cheers.

• connected ethernet without disabling wireless, now I have *two* LAN ip's?

  Ok I'm on ubuntu 11.04, not too knowledgeable about network stuff. Usually people ask things like "wired works but wireless does not!". In m y case, I'm just curious about what it means to have both of them seemingly connected. In 'ipconfig' in shell I see that I have 192.168.1.2 for the wireless AND 192.168.1.3 for the ethernet. What does this mean for applications, does one of the two get precedence? It seems like my pages load slightly faster, so perhaps the ethernet is being used, but I could be imagining the speedup...

  Is there a remote desktop app for the Mac that allows multiple people to be remoted in at the same time, similar to RDP in Windows? I've used VNC, but that only allows one person to control the computer. For some background: I'd like to set up a mac that many users can RDP into from PC's to do XCode development. I did some searching and didn't find anything, so I'm assuming it's just not possible, but I want to confirm. Thanks. • Disable word completion dialog when pressing escape in Safari

  Behavior: Load Safari 5.0 on mac. Press command+f to search for some text. Type something, and find it on the page. Hit esc to cancel the search. Irritatingly, get word completion menu rather than canceling. Is there any way to make esc cancel the search, like it used to with Safari 4.0, instead of pulling up a word completion dialog? It's very annoying. Failing that, what's the best way to cancel the search with the keyboard? Note: this also happens in any text field, the search box, the location bar etc.

  Hi, I'm looking for a solution that'll automatically sync file system changes in "/folder1" to "/folder2". Any change should be synced (deleted files, new folders etc.) without any confirmation. Preferably the changes will happen to "/folder2" instantly. "/folder1" is on my hdd "/folder2" is on a server on the LAN (can be accessed via SSH or NFS) I'm on OS X 10.6.   I want to create Git server on which every developer can commit code with his own linux account. The Git repository is initialized under the directory /opt/git_repo.git I created a group developers which owns the directory git_repo.git. Then I created three users which are part of the same group - DeA, DevB, DevC. I created a soft link into each developer home directory which points to the /opt/git_repo.git location. The problem is that when a user connects to the Git server and use the soft link to access the files he cannot do it. Can you help me what are the proper steps and commands to configure the repository?

• Installing old version of mysql

  I'm trying to troubleshoot a database import problem and want to duplicate the environment onto another server. This will require installing an older version of mysql, but the packages that are listed are only showing a recent version. I'm currently running debian wheezy 7.1 and what was installed was the packaged 5.5.31. What is the official way to install an older copy? I guess I could hunt around Google and hope to find some files of the same version to install from source, but this doesn't seem like a reliable method.

• Hosting ESXI (free edition) [closed]

  We currently have one physical server running the free version of VMWare ESXi that virtualizes a Win SBS 2003 server and a Citrix server. We need to collocate the server and are investigating our options. Are there places that will host our virtual servers and save us the expense of shipping the physical server out for collocation. In my mind we'd copy the Vms to disk and ship them out. Does the fact that we're using the free version of ESXi create a barrier to this idea? Thanks for the help, I realize this is a stupid question.

• Exception seem in an eclipse GMF application when file not present in workspace

  I am developing a GMF application . In this situation , I start my workspace and load a file in the workspace . Then I close the workspace and then delete the file from the workspace . After that, I try to restart my application and restore the workspace . Of course , now since the file does not exist , there are going to be exceptions . I tried a lot to handle these exceptions but if I try to get rid of one exception , then another pops up . Does anyone know what methods do I have to override in order to handle this situation correctly . • Using the Ninject NLogModule Logger in global.asax

  I'm using Ninject for DI in my asp.net application, so my Global class inherits from NinjectHttpApplication. In my CreateKernel(), I'm creating my custom modules and DI is working fine for me. However, I notice that there is a Logger property in the NinjectHttpApplication class, so I'm trying to use this in Application_Error whenever an exception is not caught. I think I'm creating the nlog module correctly for Ninject, but my logger is always null. Here's my CreateKernel: protected override Ninject.Core.IKernel CreateKernel() { IKernel kernel = new StandardKernel(new NLogModule(), new NinjectRepositoryModule()); return kernel; } But in the following method, Logger is always null. protected void Application_Error(object sender, EventArgs e) { Exception lastException = Server.GetLastError().GetBaseException(); Logger.Error(lastException, "An exception was caught in Global.asax"); } To clarify, Logger is a property on NinjectHttpApplication of type ILogger and has the [Inject] attribute Any idea how to inject correctly into Logger?

The Amazon tag for "dependency injection" lists only a few titles, and all of them are specifically about Spring for Java. Are there any books out there that cover DI/IoC in general? Or any that include a survey of multiple DI frameworks? Or any that cover .NET in lieu of or in addition to Java? Or do we have to rely on this newfangled interweb instead of dead trees...

• Inclusion Handling in MVC 2 / MVCContrib

  I'd like to improve my page by combining and minifying javascript and CSS files. Since MVCContrib already contains a project called IncludeHandling, I took a look at that which unfortunately left me with unanswered questions: There is quite a set of interfaces and objects involved in the process. Now I'm using Ninject.Mvc, but it seems that MvcContrib.IncludeHandling is using some additional (home-brewed?) DI? Can I work around this? Has anybody used this and can share some experiences? Secondly, advice that is often heard is to put static content on different domains so the request does not contain cookies and the like, making it much easier for the server to handle the request. But how can I combine this with automatic inclusion handling - isn't that necessarily served in the same application? EDIT: Figured that there is really just a single resolve call in the whole thing, i really wonder why they use DI for that... Thinking about a fork there...

  The purpose of the JLabel is to show who a message is to, like in a mail client e.g. To: John, Mary, Peter, Frank, Tom, Harry I will have the names in a vector so can build up a string from that and then set the label's text to this string. However it has the potential to get quite long. I was think it might be nice to have something like this: To: John, Mary, Peter, Frank, Tom, Harry, ... Then when you click on the '...', it will expand more or just show a tool tip if you mouse over the ... Yes this idea is stolen from Thunderbird! I am open to other ideas, don't have to use a JLabel.   SQL Server 2000. Single table has a list of users that includes a unique user ID and a non-unique user name. I want to search the table and list out any users that share the same non-unique user name. I'm not a T-SQL guru. I can do the basic joins and such, but I'm thinking there must be an elegant way of doing this. Barring elegance, there must be ANY way of doing this.   Hi All, I am using Junit 4. My whole program is working fine. I am trying to write a test case. But there is one error... here is very basic sample test public class di extends TestCase{ private static Records testRec; public void testAbc() { Assert.assertTrue( "There should be some thing.", di.testRec.getEmployee() > 0); } } and when i run this it give me error that fName can not be null if i use super and do like this public TestAgnes() { super("testAbc"); } it work all fine. It wasn't this before with JUnit 3.X am I doing wrong or they changed it :( Sorry if I am not clear Is there any way to executre test without super? or calling functions etc. ?

• Have boost effect on lucene/compass field search.

  Hi there, In our compass mapping, we're boosting "better" documents to push them up in the list of search results. Something like this: <boost name="boostFactor" default="1.0"/> <property name="name"><meta-data>name</meta-data></property> While this works fine for fulltext search, it does not when doing a field search, e.g. the boost is ignored when searching something like name:Peter Is there any way to enable boosting for field searches?
