• PHP to SharePoint roadmap

  I'm a PHP developer with familiarity with Rails and a focus on MVC development. My company is moving more and more to SharePoint and I feel I need to learn to build application within the SharePoint system. I have some brief introduction to C# but that's about it. I've used some SharePoint Designer and the web interface but not that heavily (most of my "development" so far for SharePoint has been html/css/javascript page manipulation in SPDesigner). What, and in what order should I be learning to eventually develop applications for SharePoint? Also, any good resources for each step?

• Have lampp use PHP code in a directory not under /opt/lampp

  I have my lampp installed in the default /opt/lampp directory and the PHP code is in the htdocs folder. Now, to edit any of the files I have to use sudo permissions and have to type my password (or use sudo -i) which I do not want to do. All I want is to know if I can somehow make lampp use the code that is residing in a folder not located under /opt/lampp/. I tried giving full path and using a '..' relative path - both did not seem to work. Or is it okay to do my work in /opt/lampp/ folder by using sudo all the the time?

  Hello, I've started doing some research on the technologies that I will need for my website. I'm trying to implement a really simple website with OpenID user registration. The website will store a block of text for each user. I imagine this means that I will need a database with: User ID Open ID url Data Having said that, I'm still having trouble deciding what I really need to do this. I know that I will need the following for the actual site: Javascript JQuery CSS But on the back end, I'm kind of lost at the moment. I've been looking at the OpenID-Selector, which is coded in Javascript. It seems like it's exactly what is used on this site. Will I actually need PHP? MySQL for the data and user registration? • PHP city-sim castle layout

  I am currently contemplating the layout system for my php based game but i've run into a couple of worries. So my idea is a 9X9 grid where the center 3X3 are inner castle. The inner castle will be 6X6 if you enter it(click on it). and with the option to expand the inner castle converting one of the 9X9 tiles to a 4X4 inner castle tile. So here is my question: What is the best way to tackle this type of layout? my original idea was a 18X18 grid and saving it in the db as (idCastle, Y, X) where X is a string of 18 numbers long telling me if the tile is an inner/outer tile or a inner/outer building. but i am not really fond of this idea and would like to hear some other ideas on how to tackle this.   When I click "Restart PHP" in Zend Server web interface, I get this error in the logs: PHP Warning: Cannot restart PHP: permission denied for user IIS APPPOOL\DefaultAppPool. in C:\Program Files (x86)\Zend\ZendServer\GUI\application\CE\models\ZwasComponents\Util\Api\UserServer.php on line 86 Based on http://kb.zend.com/index.php?View=entry&EntryID=426 I tried to give permissions to user IIS APPPOOL\DefaultAppPool to the folder C:\Program Files (x86)\Zend\ZendServer\, however it still gives the same error. Do you know to what resources the application pool does not have permissions to?

  UTF8? UTF16? Do strings in PHP also keep track of the encoding used? Let's look at this script for example. Say I run: $original = "??????????????"; What actually happens? Obviously I think $original will not contain just 7 characters. Those glyphs must each be represented by several bytes there. Then I do: $converted = mb_convert_encoding ($original , "UTF-8"); What will happen to $converted? How will $converted be different from $original? Will it be just the exact same byte sequence as $original but with a different encoding?

• PHP accessible shared content between two websites on the same VPS on different domains/IPs

  I have two ecommerce websites, selling music digital downloads, on the same VPS, currently using cPanel/WHM (but thinking of switching to Virtualmin). They have separate domains and IPs of course. They both share from the same set of music files, so I have duplicate copies in each website directory, which takes up a lot of disk space. How might I go about sharing the same set of music files across both sites, allowing PHP access, so that it does not break my shopping cart's functionality of serving customers the downloads after they have paid for them? I thought of maybe using symlinks or something, but I don't know if it's possible, or if it would have to somehow circumvent built-in security features of the server. I'm new to VPS management.

  I have a server with centos 6.3 and cPanel After the upgrade from php 5.3.16 to php 5.3.19 my site stopped working. When I try to execute an index.php manually I'm receiving the following error. php: symbol lookup error: /usr/local/lib/php/extensions/no-debug-non-zts-20090626/memcached.so: undefined symbol: memcached_last_error_errno Reinstalled memcached and memcache via pecl and manually but not helped. What is causing this problem and how to fix it ?

The problem I have is one file inside that directory needs to be accessed without a user/pass. Is there a way I can pass the user/pass within the php file? Or excluse the one file? • Passing variables from PHP to C++

  I’m new to this so I’m sorry if my question is trivial. I have the following situation: I need to call a program from PHP and pass some vars and/or sets of key-value pairs to it. Now, my question is: how do I pass these vars, through arguments to the called function (e.g. exec("/path/to/program flag1 flag2 [key1=A,key2=B]");)? Or is there a better method to achieve this? Somebody suggested me to write them into a txt file and pass the path to it to as an argument instead (e.g. exec("/path/to/program path_to_txt_file);), but I’m not to excited about this method.

• Writing a desktop application for progammer from PHP background

  I have a client who wants a tool for him to be able to upload his products, enter orders, and keep track of customer details. There are quite a few highly customised requests, which is why he wants the tool custum made. He does not care much about the interface design - it just has to be usable and provide access to the databade. I've already designed the database. I have no experience of desktop applications and usually write my web apps in PHP with the Yii framework. But hosting this on a server seems like overkill. I also have .net experience from a few years ago. What would be the best options for writing this as a desktop application?

  I'm learning OOP (PHP). I've realized my own CRUD Class, that performs some kind of queries SQL. Btw, a Gasoline asked us to realize a smart, simple web-app where he can update prices of his gasoline (gasoline, diesel, lpg) and via an API i could recall them and display in his site. So, I did create a new Class Gasoline but it perform some methods of CRUD Class public function getPrezzoBenzina($id) { $prezzo_benzina = $this->distributore->sql('SELECT prezzo_benzina FROM prezzi WHERE id = '.$id); return $prezzo_benzina } And so on (code is pseudocode, just to explain). I could perform all my code only with help of Crud Class... without necessity of Class Gasoline. So, what I'm missing about OOP? Where am I wrong?

  I'm a beginner teaching myself to code but I would like he insight of the PSE community and helping choose where to start. My main objective is to be able to create a basic website to first test my business idea and from there iterate on it quickly to minimise my learning time. The most important criteria for me is speed. An example of speed would be pre-built components available open source and not having to write one from scratch. From my research, this seems to be a death match between the following languages and frameworks: PHP and CakePHP Python and Django Ruby and Rails Assumptions: I am going to be equally good (or bad) in all 3. It is going to be equally easy to find competent developers in either language. I know this to be false already by lets assume that it is. This question is not meant to karma whore as I've seen how passionate some of these standoff questions have been and I'll be happy to turn it into a community wiki.

• Architectural advice - websockets javascript/php integration

  Myself and a friend have started making a game, he's likely to be using impact.js for the user interaction etc, but we need multiplayer functionality so some form of websockets for TCP connections etc. So we were thinking impact.js into socket.io and node.js. However, user accounts, ecommerce, session handling and social media integration will all be handled with Codeigniter (PHP), my question is, is it wise to have node.js running in parallel with Codeigniter, or if this is even possible? If not, if you were to create a multiplayer online game utilising ecomms to buy credits and user accounts, how would you go about this from a structural position and what engines/frameworks would you recommend? I am previously worked on windows machine and used dreamweave, now I moved to ubuntu 11.10 and I need IDE like dreamweaver. Currently I have used Geany and Eclipse but none of them has facility of design mode. Is there any add-on available for Geany or Eclipse then please give it link to me. • Need private personal access to ~three PHP pages

  I would like secure access to the text output by three PHP scripts (the text output is JavaScript and html) . The security level is much less then financial data but important none-the-less. I have considered purchasing AND studying https and SSL certificates. Hostgator charges an extra $2/month for a private ip plus $50+ anually for a certificate. This is more then I want to spend for this project (time + money). Is there a simpler solution that is: less expensive easier to implement. I'm open to different approaches.

As wondering how can I fix this problem so that my functions return all the values.   I'm studying OOP PHP and working on a small personal project but I have hard time grasping some concepts. Let's say I have a list of items, each item belongs to subcategory, and each subcategory belongs to category. So should I make separate classes for category (with methods to list all categories, add new category, delete category), class for subcategories and class for items? Or should I make creating, listing and deleting categories as methods for item class? Both category and subcategory are very simple and basically consist of ID, Name and parentID (for subcategory).

  Possible Duplicate: How to find web hosting that meets my requirements? I'm having trouble choosing a host that meets my application's needs. Please kindly inform me what I should look for when choosing a web host. My application is similar to a reminder service that reminds users of events that they scheduled. I'm sending emails to users through a PHP script. I'm not sending one email to multiple recipients. Each recipient receives a different message. I plan to use cron jobs every minute and expect the application to send roughly 200 individual emails in 1 hour (for a small user base that may grow). I don't have hosting experience with this type of application. I plan to start on a shared host and move up in the future to vps or dedicated. Most shared hosts that I looked into allow 50-100 emails per hour with delays between mailings. What do you recommend?

  I need to develop an app for booking appointments. This is gonna be hosted in a shared server. So performance is the most important thing. I have used symfony2. I quite liked the framework. But seems to be heavy. Which framework would suit me considering my requirements? I have shortlisted three frameworks yii, symfony2 and ZF2. I am not asking which framework is better. All the three are good frameworks. I want to know which will suit my requirements. My first priority would be performance (I will be using AJAX wherever possible), second would be maintenance and development time and third community support. Or should I use my own handlers to separate views and logic and just use raw php?

Which way will be more correct one to work with data such as this? Load all data retrieved from database as array into a property called something like _data on class creation and further methods operate with this property Create separate properties for each field retrieved from database, on class creation load all data fields into respective properties and operate with that properties separately? Then let's say I want to create a method that returns a list of all users with their data. Which way is better? Method that returns just an array of userdata like this: Array([0]=>array([id] => 1, [username] => 'John', ...), [1]=>array([id] => 2, [username] => 'Jack', ...), ...) Method that creates a new instance of it's class for each user and returns an array of objects

  A friend of mine asked me for a easy website for him. As it was just 3 subpages, no database need or anything, I've done it quite fast with plain PHP, HTML, JS and CSS. But then another and another friend showed up. They only wanted arrange differently they navigation, some different picutures etc. So I though, is there any kind of CMS, that allows build small business website (barbershop, local groceries shop), with small list of subpages, yet allowing us to arrange look'n'feel. There's no need for the databas as content won't change, or can be stored in simple textfiles for example. Things like WordPress might be simple overkill Does anyone know such cms?
