  • how do I have a windows group automatically map a drive on connection?

    I have 3 different windows user groups. Each group needs to have a certain drive mapped, unique to that group. Is there a way to say x group maps to y drive every time they connect? If I put something in their start up, that's a lot of manual work. I am needing something that I have set per user group, if possible. If this is not feasible, is there another option?     A colleague of mine wrote a post a while ago asking Do you own your tools. It raises an important question. Do you? I answered way down in the comments. As an independent, I do own my tools. Even when I wasn't independent, I had my own (fully licensed) tools that I used for personal development. I don't think buying your own tools are something to puff your chest up about (just because you can buy a $100 pair of basketball sneakers they won't make you as good as Michael Jordan), but it IS an investment in yourself that shouldn't be taken lightly. What do you think good people?

    This post is to provide some useful information about the tools typically used by Oracle ETPM implementations for performance tuning and analysis.   This includes tools to monitor and gather performance information and statistics on the Database, Application Server, and Client (browser).  Enterprise Monitoring Tools Oracle Enterprise Manager - OEM Grid Control comes with a comprehensive set of performance and health metrics that allow monitoring of key components in your environment such as applications, application servers, databases, as well as the back-end components on which they rely, such as hosts, operating systems and storage. Tools for the Database Oracle Diagnostics Pack Automatic Workload Repository (AWR)  - this tool gets statistics from memory abut the Time Model or DB Time, Wait Events, Active Session History and High Load SWL queries Automatic Database Diagnostic Monitor (ADDM) - This self-diagnostic software is built into the database.  It examines and analyzes data captured in AWR to dertermine possible performance issues.  It locates the root cause of the issue, provides recommendations for correcting the issues and qualifies the expected benefit.     Unless you've been living in the caves of Lascaux for the past couple of days, you probably know what's happening in the world of Windows Phone. Microsoft unveiled the developer tools required to develop applications and games for Windows Phone 7 at MIX10 a couple of days back. Silverlight and XNA being the major frameworks, no big surprise there. And the best news of all is that all the development tools are free! So if you are planning to develop apps for Windows Phone 7, read on. The first place, or more appropriately hub, for you is the Windows Phone Developer Portal. It has most of the information you need to get you started. Now there is a ton of information available at other places too. In this post, I take time to put all the information that I found useful at one place, and I'll keep updating this as and when I find new stuff.   Setting up the development environment 1. Install Windows Phone Developer Tools CTP (Community Technology Preview) This will install Visual Studio 2010 Express, Silverlight, XNA framework and emulator for Windows Phone 7. It also installs a few support tools. 2. Expression Blend 4 for Windows Phone:     - Install Expression Blend 4 beta     - Install Expression Blend Add-in Preview for Windows Phone     - Install Expression Blend SDK Preview for Windows Phone Installing the above tools should set your machine up for development. I installed the tools on my Windows Vista SP1 machine and the process went smoothly without running into any major hitch. Note that the tools won't install on Windows XP, read the release notes of the CTP. Resources and Documentation 1. Microsoft Windows Phone 7 Series Developer Training Kit 2. Programming Windows Phone 7 Series by Charles Petzold. Contains few chapters only. Gives a good preview. 3. MSDN documentation for Windows Phone 7 Development 4. Windows Phone 7 Developer Forum - where you can ask questions and problems you run into and the experts are there to help you. 6. For Silverlight visit silverlight.net and for XNA game development, the XNA Creators Club is the place to go, also make sure you follow Michael Klutcher's and Shawn Hargreaves' blog. 7. And finally the MIX'10 website. Most of the sessions will be available for download later (some are already available). Click on the Windows Phone tag to get all the session details and downloads.   If you are completely new to Silverlight and XNA (like me), and C# makes some sense to you then I suggest you go through the Developer Training Kit. It gives a good start and ramps you up pretty quickly.

    When I am trying to access developer tools under developer tab in InfoPath Designer 2010 , I got this error InfoPath Cannot Start Microsoft Visual Studio Tools for Applications(See the screenshot below)     I got this error because , I do not install VSTA when I install office2010.To Install VSTA, you need to Launch Office 2010 setup from your Office 2010 installation media,choose the Add or Remove Features radio button in the installer then Set the Visual Studio Tools for Applications option to Run from My Computer and continue through the setup wizard. (See the screenshot below).Once this is done , you are ready to start VSTA for you InfoPath Form.

  • Suggestions for accessing SQL Server from internet

    i need to be able to access a customer's SQL Server, and ideally their entire LAN, remotely. They have a firewall/router, but the guy responsible for it is unwilling to open ports for SQL Server, and is unable to support PPTP forwarding. The admin did open VNC, on a non-stanrdard port, but since they have a dynamic IP it is difficult to find them all the time. In the past i have created a VPN connection that connects back to our network. But that didn't work so well, since when i need access i have to ask the computer-phobic users to double-click the icon and press Connect i did try creating a scheduled task that attempts to keep the VPN connection back to our office up at all times by running: >rasdial "vpn to me" But after a few months the VPN connection went insane, and thought it was both, and neither, connected an disconnected; and the vpn connection wouldn't work again until the server was rebooted. Can anyone think of a way where i can access the customer's LAN that doesn't involve opening ports on the router needing to know their external IP customer interaction of any kind Blah blah blah use vpn vnc protocol has known weaknesses you are unwise to lower your defenses it's not wise to expose SQL Server directly to the internet you stole that line from Empire Customer doesn't care about any of that. Customer wants things to work.

  • Windows Azure Tools for Microsoft Visual Studio 1.2 (June 2010)

    I have good news! Microsoft has released the June 2010 Windows Azure Tools + SDK. These new tools extend Visual Studio (both VS 2010 & VS 2008) for Windows Azure development. With these tools you can create, configure, debug, build, run, and deploy scalable web apps on Windows Azure. At first glance what I see as some of the most interesting points of interest are the fact that Visual Studio 2010 RTM is fully supported as well as .NET 4 support. You can choose to build your apps with the .NET 3.5 or .NET 4 frameworks. Another area of interest that I’ll be digging into is the cloud storage explorer. It provides a read-only view of your Windows Azure tables and blob containers from within Visual Studio via the Server Explorer. I’m sure I’ll have more to say about the Windows Azure Tools as I dig deeper… Have a day. :-|

  • RDP Connection to Windows 7 stays really slow

    I have an Issue with connecting to Windows 7 via RDP. I can open an RDP Session, but regardless of any settings, the responce times are really long. This in particulary is the case when opening a web page in a browser. I've tried IE, Firefox and Google Chrome. I also use RDP connection to a Windows 2008 Server from the same client machine, and the speed is very normal with all features turned on. We have Gigabit Ethernet here. So I think it can not be the client's fault. What concerns Windows 7 Machine, I've tried shutting all the sraphic features off and turning the color levels to 256 colors. Result - the same. If I work locally on the machine - I can not see any lags. What else have I tried: Using old RDP 5 Client from Microsoft Setting network autotuninglevel as seen here Do You have some ideas? Thanks in advance! Update the problem seems to be with rendering window contents. All the window borders and pannes are rendered pretty quickly, but the content shows up very slowly. Also mouse movements are recognised by the Win 7 box only after some period. Are there some hidden settings in the RDP, where one could turn some advanced features off or turn some caching on? I use Bitmap Caching, but this apparently doesn't help.

    I used the Bing webmaster tool's SEO analyzer on my website, and it reported There are multiple <H1> tags on the page. It recommends that there should only be one <h1> tag on the page. The page is a listing of blog posts for a category. So each blog entry is structured like this. <article> <head><h1><a>...</a></h1></head> <p>summary...</p> </article> <article> <head><h1><a>...</a></h1></head> <p>summary...</p> </article> <article> <head><h1><a>...</a></h1></head> <p>summary...</p> </article> <article> <head><h1><a>...</a></h1></head> <p>summary...</p> </article> How is this invalid? I thought this was the correct way to describe a post in HTML5.

  • mRemote and RoyalTS both are not able to RDP connect me to a Windows Server 2008 system?

    I am completely stuck on this one. If I start a RDP session independently of these 2 programs everything works fine. My RDP session connects, I click "OK" to accept the "Notice To Users" security message and then it shows me the login screen where I enter my password manually. Now, if I try to use either mRemote or RoyalTS to create this connection, I get the same behavior except that I get a "The user name or password is incorrect." message. Now, I know this cannot be true since I can manually connect with RDP. So, what is the problem with these 2 pieces of software that prevents me from logging in? I have no problems with connecting to Windows XP systems with these programs. Additionally, I wish I knew how to get one of these programs to automatically click the "OK" button on the "Notice To Users" message while automatically attempting to log me in as part of the login process. Can they do that?

I'm trying to segment my incoming traffic by page-type such that I can find out what percentage of traffic is going to zip code pages exclusively and what percentage is going to city/state level pages. I basically want to filter by URL structure to find out what percentage of total traffic zip code pages account for. The reason for doing this is to find out if Google Tag Manager can help with this?   • Trouble in Team Viewer VPN Connection

    I have completed initial vpn connection setup. It has connected. I have tested with ping and it is ok. My problem is, when I want to start file transfer in VPN it asks for username & password. So what is the user name? I have tried giving Computer-Name/User-Name. I have found my Computer Name by going to Control Panel/System/ & clicking 'Computer Name' tab & username from user accounts or it is shown when I login in windows account (Please correct me if the above procedure is wrong). But what is the password? I have tried giving the account password but it always give 'The username or password is incorrect.' My Question: How to find the username & password? For Information: a) I have Team Viewer 7 installed in one Windows XP PC & one Windows 8 PC. I like to create a secure connection between these two PCs. b) The two PCs are connected in the same local network via a router. Please ask if you need additional information.

    I have a server running a Virtual Desktop Managed Pool, what I would like to do is when a user logs in I would like a script to check the number of available VMs and if below a threashold add additional VMs to the pool. I don't think it would be appropriate to run this as a logon script inside the VM, I think there is a way to do this on the management side but I don't know the new scripting interface in Server 2012 R2 well enough to know which commandlets I should look for to schedule this. EDIT: I know System Center is perfect for this but I do not have a license and was denied when I asked for it to be added to the budget.

  • Using a saved password for remote desktop access from Windows 7

    This past week I have been accessing a remote server by remote desktop access from a Windows 7 PC. Whilst I could save the password, windows 7 will not use it if the remote system is not fully verified. The fix is excellently documented at http://www.perceptible.net/post/2009/02/03/How-To-Enable-Use-of-Saved-Credentials-with-Remote-Desktop-to-Almost-Fully-Authenticated-Machines.aspx I used it and the connection process stopped asking for the password to be re-entered! (n.b. no gpedit -force is required)
