• SharePoint 2010 User Profile Sync - Remove Disabled Users

  I have SharePoint 2010 set up to sync active directory users and it is working great. I am getting disabled users in the sync though. I have tried what all the blogs say, filter on userAccountControl bit on equals 2 but to no avail, the disabled users are still syncing. I am at a loss on where to look next. My last resort would be to create a ou/folder in AD and move disabled users there and remove that from the sync connector, but I don't really want to go there. Any ideas?

I have following doubts By default application pools are set to recycle themselves at 2 am in night and because of that we need warm up scripts . But As I was googling on this topic I found mixed reactions on this some MVP are saying its not advisable to recycle application pool daily and some say otherwise so I am confused. Because if I am not doing recycling application pool then I don't hv to use warmup scripts . But as my site is public facing and its all around the globe so is it advisable that I should recycle it daily as it will affect the performance of my site even though I would run warm up scripts once I don't think so it wud be as good as it should be ....Any advice on that?

• sharepoint 2007 access denied when accessing user profiles via ssp

  Guys I have a really strange problem in regards to sharepoint mysites today I go into user profiles and properties in order to setup a property all of a sudden I get access denied. First off I know that I'm logged in with the correct account after the access denied I decided to click on personalization services and permissions I than get An unhandled exception occurred in the user interface.Exception Information: Cannot complete this action. I'm not seeing anything in the server application logs either. So have any of you guys seen this before is there some kind of way to grant a user account the manage profiles right permission using stsadm. BTW all other fucntions of the ssp are working fine so my question is if the user profiles and my sites of a ssp tanks how do you repair that portion of the ssp? BTW the user accounts that I'm using are site collection owners and also they have full control at the web application level. • Sharepoint .PDF contents displaying as 'searchtext.xml' in searches

  Hi Experts, I recently used installed ifilter in my sharepoint farm to enable searching of the contents of .pdf documents. All went well, except if I search for contents of any .pdf file, they appear in the search results with document title "searchtext.xml", and the link to the document gives a giant page of the .pdf contents in an .xml looking browser page. :s I have added .pdf filetypes to the search, so I am unsure why it is reading them incorrectly.. if I search for a .pdf document title such as 'document.pdf' it will display the result as a html page, though the link does follow to a readable .pdf file. Any help?

(architecture I understand that you can install all the services on one server but it isn't recommended. It then talks about how you can scale up the application servers, and web front ends. What should the hardware look like for both the application server and web front ends? Do I need to setup a standalone box for each application server?

• Sharepoint 2007 reset permission inheritance

  I have this SharePoint 2007 document library which has several levels of folders and files. Some folders in the middle of the hierarchy do not inherit permissions from their parents and have their unique permissions defined. It is a huge library and there are many folders like this. I am currently changing the permission model of my library and I want to reset all those unique permissions and have all of them inherit permissions from the library root. (Something like "Replace child object permissions" checkbox available in windows files system security window) If this is not possible, seeing a list of folders that have their unique permissions defined would also do.

• List all documents (webparts) and sites using a certain solution in sharepoint 2007

  I would like to uninstall a Sharepoint application template (GroupBoard Workspace to be exact) but I want to make sure nothing currently relies on it. I don't see any functions within stsadm that will tell me this information and I have even tried SPM which would work, but with such a huge site it's tedious to go through every single web and page to see which features are in use. Is there a way (probably with SQL using the id from stsadm -o enumsolutions) to list everything that relies on a template within a given solution, including webparts on custom pages? If this is not possible, what is the best way to check dependencies prior to uninstalling a solution (especially since GBW is not the only one on my axe list.) Note: I know that stsadm -o deletesolution will stop me from removing something that is in use, but I want to see all of the things that are using a given solution.

  What is a Data Connection Library in SharePoint Server 2010? A Data Connection Library in Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010 is a library that can contain two kinds of data connections: an Office Data Connection (ODC) file or a Universal Data Connection (UDC) file. Microsoft InfoPath 2010 uses data connections that comply with the Universal Data Connection (UDC) file schema and typically have either a *.udcx or *.xml file name extension. How to create a SharePoint Server Data Connection Library? 1. Browse to a SharePoint Server 2010 site on which you have at least Design permissions.   In my first image, my model displays correctly: But when I move the model's position along the Z-axis (forward) I get this, yet the Y-axis doesnt change. An if I keep going, the model disappears into the ground: Any suggestions as to how I can get the model to translate properly visually?   The Actors concurrency model is clearly gaining favor. Is there a good book that presents the patterns and pitfalls of the model? I am thinking about something that would discuss, for instance, the problems of consistency and correctness in the context of hundreds or thousands of independent Actors. It would be okay if it were associated with a specific language (erlang, I would imagine, since that seems universally regarded as the proven implementation of Actors), but I am hoping for something more than an introductory chapter or two. (FWIW, I'm actually most interested in Actors as they are implemented in Scala.)

• Can an object oriented program be seen as a Finite State Machine?

  This might be a philosophical/fundamental question, but I just want to clarify it. In my understanding a Finite State Machine is a way of modeling a system in which the system's output will not only depend on the current inputs, but also the current state of the system. Additionally, as the name suggests it, a finite state machine can be segmented in a finite N number of states with its respective state and behavior. If this is correct, shouldn't every single object with data and function members be a state in our object oriented model, making any object oriented design a finite state machine? If that is not the interpretation of a FSM in object design, what exactly people mean when they implement a FSM in software? am I missing something? Thanks

• Breaking up a large PHP object used to abstract the database. Best practices?

  Two years ago it was thought a single object with functions such as $database->get_user_from_id($ID) would be a good idea. The functions return objects (not arrays), and the front-end code never worries about the database. This was great, until we started growing the database. There's now 30+ tables, and around 150 functions in the database object. It's getting impractical and unmanageable and I'm going to be breaking it up. What is a good solution to this problem? The project is large, so there's a limit to the extent I can change things. My current plan is to extend the current object for each table, then have the database object contain these. So, the above example would turn into (assume "user" is a table) $database->user->get_user_from_id($ID). Instead of one large file, we would have a file for every table.

• Questioning one of the arguments for dependency injection: Why is creating an object graph hard?

  Dependency injection frameworks like Google Guice give the following motivation for their usage (source): To construct an object, you first build its dependencies. But to build each dependency, you need its dependencies, and so on. So when you build an object, you really need to build an object graph. Building object graphs by hand is labour intensive (...) and makes testing difficult. But I don't buy this argument: Even without dependency injection, I can write classes which are both easy to instantiate and convenient to test. • Is there an alternative to the term "calling object"?

  Let's suppose you've got a class defined (in pseudocode): class Puppy { // ... string sound = "Rawr!"; void bark() { print(sound); } } And say, given a Puppy instance, you call it's bark() method: Puppy p; p.bark(); Notice how bark() uses the member variable sound. In many contexts, I've seen folks describe sound as the member variable of the "calling object." My question is, what's a better term to use than "calling object?" To me, the object is not doing any calling. We know that member functions are in a way just functions with an implicit this or self parameter. I've come up with "receiving object," or "message recipient," which makes sense if you're down with the "messaging" paradigm. Do any of you happy hackers have a term that you like to use? I feel it should mean "the object upon which a method is called" and TOUWAMIC just doesn't cut it.

  I have a textbox that I am defining as <%= Html.TextBox("Username", Model.Form.Username, new { @class = "textbox", @disabled = "disabled" })%> In my action [AcceptVerbs(HttpVerbs.Post)] [ValidateAntiForgeryToken] public ActionResult EditLogin(LoginForm post) { ... return View(model); } post.Username will be blank, all other properties bind correctly, but if I change @disabled="disabled to @readonly="readonly" the username binds properly and everything works. It looks like model binding ignores values in disabled fields. Is their a way around this? I still need the field's value to bind to the model. I can use readonly but would prefer to use disabled so it is visually apparent to the user that they cannot edit the value of the field.

It's also more future proof. The problem My form works fine, but I get validation errors about user's FullName and Email properties since they are not provided. I also shouldn't feed them to the client (via ajax when user enters user data), because email is personal contact data and is not shared between users. If there was just a single user reference on MyModel I would write [Bind(Include = "Title, Editor.Id")] But I have an enumeration of them. How do I provide Bind white list to work with my model?

• Model availability inside ActionFilter

  I have created a new ActionFilter for an ASP.NET MVC application that I'm creating. I have an action which accepts an Http Post and the argument of the action method accepts an object, for which I have created and registered a custom model binder. I noticed that inside the IActionFilter.OnActionExecuting the value for filterContext.Controller.ViewData.Model is always null despite the fact that it looks like the model binder is always invoked before the action filter OnActionExecuting method. In contrast to this inside the IActionFilter.OnActionExecuted method of the same action filter the value for filterContext.Controller.ViewData.Model is not null. Do you guys know if this is by design or a bug? If by design are their any links which describe why this is? Thanks.

• SOAP call with query on result (SSRS, Sharepoint)

  Hi! I created a report in VS using a shared data source which is connected to a sharepoint list. In the report I created a dataset with a SOAP call to the data source so I get the result from the sharepoint list in a table. this is the soap call <Query> <SoapAction>http://schemas.microsoft.com/sharepoint/soap/GetListItems</SoapAction> <Method Namespace="http://schemas.microsoft.com/sharepoint/soap/" Name="GetListItems"> <Parameters> <Parameter Name="listName"> <DefaultValue>{BD8D39B7-FA0B-491D-AC6F-EC9B0978E0CE}</DefaultValue> </Parameter> <Parameter Name="viewName"> <DefaultValue>{E2168426-804F-4836-9BE4-DC5F8D08A54F}</DefaultValue> </Parameter> <Parameter Name="rowLimit"> <DefaultValue>9999</DefaultValue> </Parameter> </Parameters> </Method> <ElementPath IgnoreNamespaces="True">*</ElementPath> </Query> THis works fine, I have a result which I can show in a report, but I want to have the ability to select a parameter to filter the result on. I have created a parameter and when I preview the Report I see the dropdownbox which I can use to make a selection from the Title field, when I do this it still shows the first record, obviously it doens't work yet (DUH!) because I need to create a query somewhere, But! I have no idea where, I tried to include <Where> <Eq> <FieldRef Name="ows_Title" /> <Value Type="Text">testValue</Value> </Eq> </Where> in the the soap request but it didn't worked... I've searched teh intarwebz but couldn't find any simliar problems... kinda stuck now...any thoughts on this?   Hello, everybody How do you usually convert business objects to presentation? For example: Business object Person { Id, FirstName, LastName, Patronymic ... } should be presented as "LastName F. P. " in html layout. We use Presentation classes hierarchy to represent data ready for output from Business model. Questions: Will you keep presentation model completely separated from Business Model. For example, can strong-typed views (MVC ASP.NET) aggregate formatted business data as well as raw business objects (that leads toward <%=Html.Encode(PersonHelper.ToShort(Model.Person))% html layout injections) What architecture layer do you choose for conversion (mvc controllers that formats business data from business layer, for instance). • A PHP design pattern for the model part [PHP Zend Framework]

  I have a PHP MVC application using Zend Framework. As presented in the quickstart, I use 3 layers for the model part : Model (business logic) Data mapper Table data gateway (or data access object, i.e. one class per SQL table) The model is UML designed and totally independent of the DB. My problem is : I can't have multiple instances of the same "instance/record". For example : if I get, for example, the user "Chuck Norris" with id=5, this will create a new model instance wich members will be filled by the data mapper (the data mapper query the table data gateway that query the DB). Then, if I change the name to "Duck Norras", don't save it in DB right away, and re-load the same user in another variable, I have "synchronisation" problems... (different instances for the same "record") Right now, I use the Multiton pattern : like Singleton, but multiple instances indexed by a key (wich is the user ID in our example). But this is complicating my developpement a lot, and my testings too. How to do it right ?
