  • What is the correct network configuration for a devStack VM (virtualbox)?

    - by Olivier
Usually when I setup a new Ubuntu VM, i keep the eth0 in NAT mode to get the internet & I add a eth1 interface in HostOnly mode so that I can ssh. But using this devStack guide : Running a Cloud in a VM, it looks like it tried to use eth0 as the public interface (install got stuck because eth0 lost the network). I know an OpenStack setup usually requires two NICs, so I'm wondering what is the correct configuration for my VM.

  • where to get an IBM jre for 64-bit Windows?

    - by Michael Mao
I know this is stupid: I couldn't find anything from IBM website about where to download an IBM jre (specifically, IBM jre1.6.0 J9 2.4 SR6) for a 64-bit Windows OS. Google takes me to a link which looks similar, but that jre would only work on an IBM product, I assume their own server/workstation or something like that. So I've been stuck by this for quite some time... I couldn't believe there is no such a "previous version repository" or something similar on IBM website :( Thanks for any suggestion in advance.

  • Ejabberd clustering problem with amazon EC2 server

    - by user353362
Hello Guys! I have been trying to install ejabberd server on Amazons EC2 instance. I am kinds a stuck at this step right now. I am following this guide: http://tdewolf.blogspot.com/2009/07/clustering-ejabberd-nodes-using-mnes... From the guide I have sucessfully completed the Set up First Node (on ejabberd1) part. But am stuck in part 4 of Set up Second Node (on ejabberd2) So all in all, I created the main node and am able to run the server on that node and access its admin console from then internet. In the second node I have installed ejabberd. But I am stuck at point 4 of setting up the node instruction presented in this blog (http://tdewolf.blogspot.com/2009/07/clustering-ejabberd-nodes-using-mnes...). I execute this command " erl -sname ejabberd@domU-12-31-39-0F-7D-14 -mnesia dir '"/var/lib/ejabberd/"' -mnesia extra_db_nodes "['ejabberd@domU-12-31-39-02-C8-36']" -s mnesia " on the second server and get a crashing error: root@domU-12-31-39-0F-7D-14:/var/lib/ejabberd# erl -sname ejabberd@domU-12-31-39-0F-7D-14 -mnesia dir '"/var/lib/ejabberd/"' -mnesia extra_db_nodes "['ejabberd@domU-12-31-39-02-C8-36']" -s mnesia {error_logger,{{2010,5,28},{23,52,25}},"Protocol: ~p: register error: ~p~n",["inet_tcp",{{badmatch,{error,duplicate_name}},[{inet_tcp_dist,listen,1},{net_kernel,start_protos,4},{net_kernel,start_protos,3},{net_kernel,init_node,2},{net_kernel,init,1},{gen_server,init_it,6},{proc_lib,init_p_do_apply,3}]}]} {error_logger,{{2010,5,28},{23,52,25}},crash_report,[[{pid,<0.21.0},{registered_name,net_kernel},{error_info,{exit,{error,badarg},[{gen_server,init_it,6},{proc_lib,init_p_do_apply,3}]}},{initial_call,{net_kernel,init,['Argument__1']}},{ancestors,[net_sup,kernel_sup,<0.8.0]},{messages,[]},{links,[#Port<0.52,<0.18.0]},{dictionary,[{longnames,false}]},{trap_exit,true},{status,running},{heap_size,610},{stack_size,23},{reductions,518}],[]]} {error_logger,{{2010,5,28},{23,52,25}},supervisor_report,[{supervisor,{local,net_sup}},{errorContext,start_error},{reason,{'EXIT',nodistribution}},{offender,[{pid,undefined},{name,net_kernel},{mfa,{net_kernel,start_link,[['ejabberd@domU-12-31-39-0F-7D-14',shortnames]]}},{restart_type,permanent},{shutdown,2000},{child_type,worker}]}]} {error_logger,{{2010,5,28},{23,52,25}},supervisor_report,[{supervisor,{local,kernel_sup}},{errorContext,start_error},{reason,shutdown},{offender,[{pid,undefined},{name,net_sup},{mfa,{erl_distribution,start_link,[]}},{restart_type,permanent},{shutdown,infinity},{child_type,supervisor}]}]} {error_logger,{{2010,5,28},{23,52,25}},crash_report,[[{pid,<0.7.0},{registered_name,[]},{error_info,{exit,{shutdown,{kernel,start,[normal,[]]}},[{application_master,init,4},{proc_lib,init_p_do_apply,3}]}},{initial_call,{application_master,init,['Argument_1','Argument_2','Argument_3','Argument_4']}},{ancestors,[<0.6.0]},{messages,[{'EXIT',<0.8.0,normal}]},{links,[<0.6.0,<0.5.0]},{dictionary,[]},{trap_exit,true},{status,running},{heap_size,233},{stack_size,23},{reductions,123}],[]]} {error_logger,{{2010,5,28},{23,52,25}},std_info,[{application,kernel},{exited,{shutdown,{kernel,start,[normal,[]]}}},{type,permanent}]} {"Kernel pid terminated",application_controller,"{application_start_failure,kernel,{shutdown,{kernel,start,[normal,[]]}}}"} Crash dump was written to: erl_crash.dump Kernel pid terminated (application_controller) ({application_start_failure,kernel,{shutdown,{kernel,start,[normal,[]]}}}) root@domU-12-31-39-0F-7D-14:/var/lib/ejabberd# any idea what going on? • error: a NUL byte in commit log message not allowed [migrated]

    - by James
I'm trying to commit some files in my Git repository, and I'm receiving this error. This all started when I ran git rm -rf folder and git rm -rf file and tried to commit the changes. I've since been able to commit and push without these files being deleted from my remote repository, however I'm now completely stuck. The full error is: error: a NUL byte in commit log message not allowed. fatal: failed to write commit object What can I do to fix this? My Google-fu has let me down on this one. Edit: I've just checked out these deleted files, and attempted to commit again, but it's still giving me the same error. Has my Git repo been corrupted or something?

  • how to implemet a nice scanline effect using libgdx

    - by Alexandre GUIDET
I am working on an old school platformer based on libgdx. My first attempt is to make a little texture and fill a rect above the whole screen, but it seems that I am messing arround with the orthographic camera (I use two camera, one for the tilemap and one to project the scanline filter). Sometime the texture is stuck on the tilemap and sometime it is too large and cover the whole screen in black. Is my approach correct using two camera? Does someone have a solution to achieve this retro effect using libgdx (see maldita castilla)? Thanks

  • How to move the camera sideways in libgdx

    - by Bubblewrap
I want to move the camera sideways (strafe/truck), now i had the following in mind, but it doesn't look like there are standard methods to achieve this in libgdx. If i want to move the camera sideways by x, i think i need to do the following: Create a Matrix4 mat Determine the orthogonal vector v between camera.direction and camera.up translate mat by v*x multiply camera.position by mat Will this approach do what i think it does, and is it a good way to do it? And how can i do this in libgdx? I get "stuck" at step 2, as in, i have not found any standard method in libgdx to calculate an orthogonal vector. EDIT: I think i can use camera.direction.crs(camera.up) to find v. Guess i can now try this approach tonight and see if it works.

  • Installation Won't Finish

    - by Joey G
I installed Ubuntu 12.10 (32-bit) on my Acer Aspire One notebook and replaced the Windows 8 Consumer Preview. Everything went fine, but right before the installation finished, it got stuck. The loading bar at the bottom is full, and it says "Copying installation logs," but my mouse won't move and it's been at this point for almost an hour. Also, the mouse is in the loading spin, so I know my computer didn't freeze. Should I just restart now? I'm not sure if it's at the last stage, but it seems like it is, and this has taken more than the rest of the installation together. EDIT- I had my computer go in sleep mode for a minute and now I can move the mouse again. When I click the "Copying.." part, it says "Activation (eth1) Stage 4 of 5 complete" but "5 of 5" (I assume that comes next) isn't starting.

  • Solar Case Mod Powers Raspberry Pi FTP Server with Sunshine

    - by Jason Fitzpatrick
This project combines a solar panel, Raspberry Pi, and a bit of code for the Pi to turn the whole array into a solar powered server (you could easily modify the project to become a solar powered music player or other device). The case mod comes to us courtesy of tinker CottonPickers–he shares the build and offers the cases for sale here. Building off the solar case, David Hayward at CNET UK added on an FTP server so that the Pi can serve as a tiny, take-anywhere, power-outlet optional, file sharing hub. • Real Life Pixar Lamp Can’t Get Enough Of Human Interaction

    - by Jason Fitzpatrick
This curious lamp, powered by an Arduino board and servo motors, is just as playful as the on-screen counterpart that inspired its creation. The New Zealand Herald reports on the creation of the lamp, seen in action in the video above: The project is a collaborative effort by Victoria University students Shanshan Zhou, Adam Ben-Gur and Joss Doggett, who met in a Physical Computing class. The lamp’s movements are informed by a webcam with an algorithm working behind it. Robotics and facial recognition technology enable the lamp to search for faces in the images from its webcam. When it spots a face, it follows as if trying to maintain eye contact. • Why hill climbing is called anytime algorithm?

    - by crucified soul
From wikipedia, Anytime algorithm In computer science an anytime algorithm is an algorithm that can return a valid solution to a problem even if it's interrupted at any time before it ends. The algorithm is expected to find better and better solutions the more time it keeps running. Hill climbing Hill climbing can often produce a better result than other algorithms when the amount of time available to perform a search is limited, such as with real-time systems. It is an anytime algorithm: it can return a valid solution even if it's interrupted at any time before it ends. Hill climbing algorithm can stuck into local optima or ridge, after that even if it runs infinite time, the result won't be any better. Then, why hill climbing is called anytime algorithm?

Back in September we shared the trailer for Mario Warfare with you–a clever live-action take on the battle in the Mushroom Kingdom. The team behind it just released the first full length episode, check it out here. We loved the trailer and the first episode is just as awesome; clearly combining the landscape and politics of Super Mario Bros. with highly stylized fighting and CGI was the right choice. • Hang In There

    - by andyleonard
Introduction This post is about persistence in the face of adversity. Losing Everything Isn't Losing When I was in Army Basic Training, I heard the senior drill sargeant tell a soldier "This is just a thing, and things can't hurt you." It seemed an odd thing to say. So odd that it stuck with me all these years since boot camp. I believe part of the reason was the truth in that statement. Things can't hurt you. Does fear of losing everything paralyze you? Have you ever lost everything? I have. Well,...(read more)

I tried using Ubuntu way back then and had a whole bunch of issues with the sleep and the wireless(Broadcom 4311). Anyways, I have an ATI Radeon express 200M graphics card (old laptop). When I go to Hardware drivers it doesn't give me any options to use the closed source drivers. Any suggestions on what I should do? I am going to try what is suggested in this thread but I am at work right now. Laptop does not wake up after sleep Thanks in advance for any help.
