    Hello! I have a domain, that is registered at a service provider but my site (wordpress blog) is hosted in a shared account with a friend in another other host service. I want to become seperate from this friend because I'm tired of boring him with my blog downtimes. Now, my problem is that I signed up to Amazon EC2 service and I created a instance (a virtual machine) to host my wordpress blog and now I'd like to redirect mydomain.com to this instance at Amazon EC2 and I don't know how to proceed in order to achieve that. The instance at Amazon EC2 is up and running (it's a 64bit linux machine) but I couldn't redirect mydomain.com to this instance at my host service webpanel. Could someone help me please???

  • SEO effects of intermix of WP blog, custom PHP site and FB app game

    We're a melbourne tech company in the process of building a custom site in PHP. We plan to launch a "pre-launch" page which is also custom coded (CSS3 on twitter bootstrap framework + HTML5 front end and PHP back end). On that site will be a link to a blog - the idea behind this is to build up ranking for a variety of relevant keywords prior to the full site going live (given the majority of the site is a member only community anyway so the blog is really the main way we'll be able to execute on-site SEO. Ideally, we would like to install wordpress in a subdirectory on our servers and just customise the header to look the same as the landing page of the website. But some questions and concerns... Is there any detrimental effect on SEO efforts in having two separate systems (one custom PHP, the other an installation of wordpress) to manage the blog vs the rest of the site? Are there any benefits or detriments to installing on a sub domain such as blog.sitename.com vs. sitename.com/blog. My preference would be sitename.com/blog as it feels neater - but open to suggestions based on knowledge of Google preferences. Separately, we are building a Facebook app which is under another site name. Again because we are launching this app first, from an SEO perspective, would it actually be better to run it from a sub domain on the main site - e.g. gamename.mainsitename.com instead of on app.gamename.com? Currently we have it on app.gamename.com, but if there are SEO benefits to moving it to the other domain and server then we'll do it. Basically we don't want to have our SEO efforts divided - will Google algorithms prefer two sites heavily referring traffic, or is it better to focus our efforts on one. I guess that's the crux of the issue. But the other one is - does Google care about traffic accessing a page built for the Facebook app iFrame - does that count toward rankings? Sorry I hope these questions aren't too complex - but we're in the tech world every day and still can't seem to find a good answer to these ones...hence I'm taking to the forums!!     Hello, I set up a new webapp maven project and wanted to test it with jetty's maven plugin. So issuded in the console the command: mvn jetty:run After defining the pluginGroup in Maven's setting file I ran once again the command. Unfortunately, it failed because i was using one of the below mentioned versions of the plugin. The first has artifact id: maven-jetty-plugin and the 2nd:jetty-maven-plugin. Why there are 2 maven based plugins for achieving the same thing - running jetty? Why do they have to bring so much confusion? Or be so kind as to explain me the differences between them. Thank you.

    It has been suggested on Amazon docs http://aws.amazon.com/dynamodb/ among other places, that you can backup your dynamodb tables using Elastic Map Reduce, I have a general understanding of how this could work but I couldn't find any guides or tutorials on this, So my question is how can I automate dynamodb backups (using EMR)? So far, I think I need to create a "streaming" job with a map function that reads the data from dynamodb and a reduce that writes it to S3 and I believe these could be written in Python (or java or a few other languages). Any comments, clarifications, code samples, corrections are appreciated.

  • Should I stick only to AWS RDS Automated Backup or DB Snapshots?

    I am using AWS RDS for MySQL. With it comes on backup, I understand that amazon provides two types of backup - automated backup and database (DB) snapshot. The difference is explain in here - http://aws.amazon.com/rds/faqs/#23. However, I am still confuse if should I stick to automated backup only or both automated and manual (db snapshots). What do you think guys? What's the setup of your own? I heard to others that automated backup is not reliable due to some unrecoverable database when the DB instance is crashed so the DB snapshots are the way to rescue you. If I will do daily DB snapshots as similar settings to automated backup, I have gonna pay much bunch of bucks. Hope anyone could enlighten me or advise me the right set up. Thanks. James

  • Apache Getting Bogged Down By Certain Script (Wp-Cron.php) - How To Kill Process Automatically

    I have a server that is running a number of wordpress blogs, and a number of them have several hundred/thousand posts. Every couple of days, the server slows to a crawl due to a file being run on Wordpress called WP-cron.php. My entire apache process log turns into this : http:// imgur.com/A7K9k.png Times that by quite a bit. And server no go. Each process takes up about 1.1% of ram. And when we have 50 of them on the go. It gets insane. Not all of them are coming from the same blog, they are pretty widespread. In the Apache process page of WHM, they are usually ALL set to the status of "C", which means closing. But they can sit there until they crash the server, and they still hold the memory. Just google "wp-cron.php load" and you will find plenty of people with similar issues. In anycase, we have think it is down to users adding a tonne of dead "pinglists" to their wordpress installation. Which in turn wordpress loops through them endlessly. Problem number 1. Does anyone have any other suggestions about what would cause the Wordpress file wp-cron.php to loop endlessly. I still think it is down to pings, because all of the people we have contacted about their account load going sky high, have had massive ping lists. Problem number 2. Even if it is down to excessive pinglists in wordpress. We cannot be babying every single account on the server waiting for it to start spawning the wp-cron processes. It often happens overnight, and I start getting SMS alerts at 2am about the load. I have CSF installed, which apparently would have ended the processes if they ran over XXX time. But I have been told that it won't catch the processes because they end up in this state of "closing" (They show up as "C" on the Apache page of WHM). Apparently CSF will only kill processes that are "running" which C does not count. I have seen various other scripts such as : http://dltj.org/article/die-apache-die/ . I took a look at the stat of /proc. But I was boggled at which delimited part was the time running. And if there was any way I could connect it back to an actual Apache process, so that I could see what file was running (So only close connections connected to wp-cron.php, with a state of "C"). Overall I know Problem 2 glosses over the real reason. But I do put the whole thing to excessive pinglists in Wordpress. But I just cannot sit there and babysit every single installation 24/7. So I need a way to save the server when I am not available. Any help would be much appreciated.

  • Why is the Amazon and Ubuntu One Music webapp part of common? Can it be removed without removing all others?

    I've just noticed that those two, which I have completely no use of, are part of the common package. This means I cannot remove them without removing everything. But I like all the other webapps, GMail, Docs and so on. I just don't want Amazon popping up in my launcher when I go there once a blue moon and not leaving until I turn Firefox off. Is there any way I can remove it without removing the rest?

    I'm looking for an easy way to assign a post number to each post in wordpress and display it out of the total number of posts. A little info: There will be about 100 "posts", each on its own page I want users to click through each post, so start at post 1 and click "next post" to get to post 2 I want it to say post 4/100 at the top for each post I want the URL to have the post name in it I was going to use WP-PageNavi and set each page to display 1 post, however I need the url to show /post-name/ and not /page/2/ I know I can count total number of posts pretty easily, any idea how I can assign a number to each post without having to do it manually? I'd like to sort by date added.

  • Cannot get webapps to work after upgrade from 12.04 to 12.10

    I just upgraded to Ubuntu 12.10 from 12.04. But I cannot use WebApps. In fact there is no sign of them anywhere. Firefox and Chromium are not prompting for integration. I tried re-installing both browsers/webapps plugin of each, but no luck. Out of curiousity, I tried to install unity-webapps-preview through terminal, apt-get reported that this operation is going to need 127mb. After installation, restarting session, nothing. I re-ran the unity-webapp-preview in terminal and SURPRISINGLY it again asked me that this operation is going to need 58mb. After Installation, nothing. Firefox is showing the unity-webapp plugin in Extensions but in Preferences there is noting like Unity settings or options for exceptions in General tab (as I seen in some threads). Chromium is not even showing the plugin in Extensions nor in the settings. Really need help. I know there is a reported bug but it is mostly about the complains that the webapps are not working as they should but in my case they don't seem to exist.     I want to install gwt developer plugin for IE (I already installed it on chrome and firefox without any problem). When i want to install it for IE7 (on both vista with sp2 & windows server 2008 with sp2), it says that plugin installed sucessfully, but it does not work & nothing adds under add-ons section. I upgraded my ie to latest 8 version & even installed google optimized version of IE8, but it couldn't help me. Any idea ?

    I am using Zend Framework's library to manage EC2 instances and AMI. However I can't list the AMI's I own and can't list existing EC2 instances. $ec2Instance = new Zend_Service_Amazon_Ec2_Instance($awsAccessKey, $awsSecretKey); $instances = $ec2Instance ->describe(); $ec2Instance -describe() should list all instances but it is returning no instances even though I have three of them running at this time. $ami = new Zend_Service_Amazon_Ec2_Image($awsAccessKey, $awsSecretKey); $images = $ami->describe(); $ami-describe() returns all the public images but none of them are the ones I created even though I have two AMIs. Does any one know what I am missing here?

    I use the maven-properties-plugin during the initialization phase to read in a bunch of properties from a properties file. I also have the jetty plugin configured to set a couple of the project properties - including those read in above - as system properties to jetty. If I run the result as mvn initialize jetty:run-war it works. If I just say mvn jetty:run-war it fails. How can I force a goal specified on the command line to run in a lifecycle that includes the initialization phase?

The color parameter does not apply with transparent images. From documentation, so, here is my code: { ... color: "black", swap: false } It works perfect, with '#000' against 'black' it works too... But if I need shadow color, for example, red '#fff000' plugin doesn't work. I don't see any shadow. Why?

  • Configurable UI Plugin frameworks for .NET Compact Framework

    Is anyone aware of any frameworks for configuring UIs and possibly plugins for .NET Compact Framework (rich client) applications? Ideally, I'm hoping to find something that would allow you to bascially configure an application's UI and screenflow via an XML file, or some other configuration mechanism, and allow you to plugin different "Action" classes to take care of specific events, etc. in the app. We basically want to have a base application, which allows you to plugin specific/custom functionality to support different customers. I know it's a lot to find, but feel free to throw out any frameworks that might support any or all of these types of things.
