• Adding a UIView to a UITableViewCell via cell.contentView

  I have a class called GraphView that extends UIView that basically draws a small little line chart. I need one of these graphs at the top of each section in my UITableView. So I tried by creating a separate cell at the top of one of my sections and then on that cell I did: [cell.contentView addSubview:graphView]; [graphView release]; But when I scroll down, it's like the graph is glitchy and it shows up in random spots along the UITableView. Anyone have ideas or insight? Is there a better way to incorporate another UIView into the top of each section in my UITableView?

  Hi I'm having some difficulties with the following problem: I'm making a little game where you're at a specific spot and each spot has each some possible directions. The available directions are N(ord),E(ast),S,W . I use the function getPosDirections to get the possible directions of that spot. The function returns the directions into an ArrayList e.g. for spot J3: [E,W] Now the game goes like this: 2 dices will be rolled so you get a number between 2 and 12, this number represents the number of steps you can make. What I want is an ArrayList of all the possible routes e.g.: I throw 3 and I'm currently at spot J3: [[E,N,E],[E,N,S],[E,S,E],[E,S,S],[W,N,E],[W,N,S],[W,S,E],[W,S,S]] How would obtain the last mentioned Array(list) Thanks in advance

• Javascript working in Firefox but not in IE -

  I have this authnav='<li class="last"><a href="auth/login">login</a></li>'+ '<li><a href="auth/create_account">create account</a></li>'; It works fine in Firefox, but Internet Explorer gives me an "Error: Object doesn't support this property or method" I'm mystified - what could be going on here? • Questions Regarding Handling of Received SMS

  Hi, i have managed to successfully write a little test app that can receive and send SMS, but got a couple of questions. (That's 'cos part of the code i copied from elsewhere and i would like to understand better). In my AndroidManifest as well as the sub-class of BroadcastReceiver, there is reference to the string literal "android.provider.Telephony.SMS_RECEIVED". However, i couldn't find any reference in the API that mentions this. Could someone point me to some reference that lists/explains these? As part of getting the message from the Intent, i did this: Object[] pdus = (Object[]) intent.getExtras().get("pdus"); Again this question is related to the use of hardcoded string literal. Where is the string "pdus" listed and described? Thanks in advance!

  Probably this is not a difficult question, but I am always a little bit confused on how to treat String type as an argument in Visual C++. I have the following to functions: void function_1(String ^str_1) { str_1 = gcnew String("Test"); } void function_2() { String ^str_2 = nullptr; function_1(str_2); } After calling function_1, str_2 is still equal to null, but what I want to achieve is that str_2 is equal to Test. So, how can I achieve that the content of str_1 is passed to function_2? Thanks for any advice.

• Can I replicate some of the optimisations done by the JVM by hand?

  I'm working on a Sudoku solver at school and we're having a little performance contest. Right now, my algorithm is pretty fast on the first run (about 2.5ms), but even faster when I solve the same puzzle 10 000 times (about 0.5ms for each run). Those timing are, of course, depend of the puzzle being solved. I know the JVM do some optimization when a method is called multiple time, and this is what I suspect is happening. I don't think I can further optimize the algorithm itself (though I'll keep looking), so I was wondering if I could replicate some of the optimizations done by the JVM. Note : compiling to native code is not an option Thanks!

  I have the following code that creates an encryption in PHP: $password = "helloworld"; $passwordupper = strtoupper($password); $passwordencode = mb_convert_encoding($passwordupper, 'UTF-16LE'); $passwordsha1 = hash("SHA1", $passwordencode); $passwordbase64 = base64_encode($passwordsha1); The instructions I have from the system I'm trying to connect to states: The encoding process for passwords is: first convert to uppercase, then Unicode it in little-endian UTF 16, then SHA1 it then base64 encode it. • Unable to modify a table

  I'm having trouble with mysql. I can read and write, but now I want to add some fields to a table. I run this command: ALTER TABLE Pubs ADD COLUMN issue tinyint AFTER volume; but get this error message: ERROR 7 (HY000): Error on rename of './user_acct/Pubs.MYI' to './user_acct/#sql2-cb0-76f2.MYI' (Errcode: 13) I created this table a few months ago, modified it a little bit, so it worked then. I can still update and insert items, but I just can't modify the table anymore. Any help would be appreciated. --Dave

• Best .NET Solution for Frequently Changed Database

  I am currently architecting a small CRUD applicaton. Their database is a huge mess and will be changing frequently over the course of the next 6 months to a year. What would you recommend for my data layer: 1) ORM (if so, which one?) 2) Linq2Sql 3) Stored Procedures 4) Parametrized Queries I really need a solution that will be dynamic enough (both fast and easy) where I can replace tables and add/delete columns frequently. Note: I do not have much experience with ORM (only a little SubSonic) and generally tend to use stored procedures so maybe that would be the way to go. I would love to learn Ling2Sql or NHibernate if either would allow for the situation I've described above.

But, as show above, NULL is a possible value. So where is the error? In the language spec? (Unlikely.) Is the compiler in error for allowing that? Is that coding guide in error (or a little ambiguous)? Or am I just wandering into the minefield known as undefined behavior?

  I am developing a plugin host. The plugins should have as little trust as they need, however I want to have the possibility for a plugin to read and write files. Can the AppDomain where the assembly will be loaded be restricted to have access to only one directory for reading and writing? Other options and ways to go about this are also appreciated like for example easy ways to stream file data from the host to the plugin (reading) and from the plugin to the host (writing). • How to make a section header with an non-rectangular shape without ugly underflow?

  I made an custom UITableView. Then I made a custom header for sections. It has round corners. But unfortunately, the rows of the section are visible in those round corners when the header floats over them. I could just make a background color so the corners are not transparent. But that is not a solution since my whole table has a background image and the section header can move. Is there any way to get the clipping region for the rows a little bit more downwards? I mean: They should not appear under that section header.

In this library i have a class like this public class TestClass { public int TestField { get; private set; } public TestClass( ) { TestField = 1; } } Then i have a varialbe form this class like this public TestClass test = new TestClass( ); The problem i am facing is that usnig reflection like this PropertyInfo field = typeof( TestClass ).GetProperty( "TestField" ); field.SetValue( test, 2, null ); programers can change internal value of this class. this will be very bad thing becouse it can crash the hole library. My question is what is the best way to protect my code form such changes.I know i can use some kind of bool flag so tha value can be changed only ones but this is not very good salution is there a better one? • Resources for Win32 C/C++ programming

  I have experience in a variety of languages (Java, Perl, C#, PHP, javascript, ansi-C for microprocessors, Objective-C and others), with Win32 programming not being an area I've done a lot of work in. Now part of my job entails maintaining a large Win32 codebase that stretches back 15 years and includes everything from C written originally for Win95 to MFC to COM to 64-bit code for Win7 to C++ using Boost and so on. If there's a variation on how to do something it's in there. Are there any good Win32 C/C++ references that discuss both the proper way to do things today and give you a little sense of how things evolved? Something like this discussion of all the various boolean types, or how to approach the API monstrosity of simply copying a string. I don't see my career heading too far down this path, but I do like to understand what I'm working with and I think this is an important part of programming history. thanks, Eric

  I'm not a beginner at C# but I really need to increase my understanding, so I've picked a classic deadlock problem to code to help teach myself some of the more advanced concepts of C#. The Dining Philosophers Problem seems like a good one, but I need a little help to get started. I know I need to approach the "diners" as objects, but to simulate the random delays between eating, should I look to threading with each diner in a separate thread?   Hello, I have a little problem with my java-program. I wanna use Observer, to synchronize two GUIs. But I can't synchronize the JComponent / JButton elements. For example: I have a GUI-Class which implements the Observer-Class: public class GUI extends JFrame implements Observer I have a second "GUI"-Class which extends the JButton-Class and makes changes on a specific Button-Element. public class Karte extends JButton{ ... this.setEnabled(false); ... How do I synchronize this Button via Observable? I have already tried to use "extends Observable" in this class, but the "setEnabled()" method is explicit for the JButton-Class, which is not Observable! Can someone help? Thanks.

  Hi everyone, I am working on python right now and i am little bit stuck in performing some tricks. I have web form with two options- File upload and textarea, i can easily pass file name with file upload options but have problem when it's textarea. Because when i use textarea then first i have to save values passed from textarea to some files and save it on the working directory. After that i can execute commandline argument and pass same saved filename name. For this problem i have to generate unique file first and save the values passed from textarea in it. Can anybody give me some tips to solve my problem. Any algorithms, suggestions and lines of code are appreciated. Thanks for your concern

  I have a simple little code fragment that is frustrating me: HashSet<long> groupUIDs = new HashSet<long>(); groupUIDs.Add(uid)? unique++ : dupes++; At compile time, it generates the error: Only assignment, call, increment, decrement, and new object expressions can be used as a statement HashSet.Add is documented to return a bool, so the ternary (?) operator should work, and this looks like a completely legitimate way to track the number of unique and duplicate items I add to a hash-set. When I reformat it as a if-then-else, it works fine. Can anyone explain the error, and if there is a way to do this as a simple ternary operator?

The data is 1 client with 2 addresses and 1 client with 1 address.   So I'm a little confused by this terminology. Everyone refers to "Asynchronous" computing as running different processes on seperate threads, which gives the illusion that these processes are running at the same time. This is not the definition of the word asynchronous. a·syn·chro·nous –adjective 1. not occurring at the same time. 2. (of a computer or other electrical machine) having each operation started only after the preceding operation is completed. What am I not understanding here?
