  We have a new Java EE 6 book in store! This one from Packt Publishing is called "Java EE 6 Development with NetBeans 7" by David Heffelfinger who is also author of Java EE 5 and GlassFish books. This book holds a step-by-step book documention all of the Java EE 6 features and APIs (including CDI) using the IDE with the best Java EE out-of-the-box experience : NetBeans 7. It uses GlassFish as the default container and PrimeFaces as a JSF component suite. We've covered several Java EE and GlassFish books before and I can't help but think that given writing books never helped authors retire early, having so many good books on Java EE 6 says something about its success among developers.

  I'm using empathy for the first few weeks now on Ubuntu 12.10. I can't find any symbols indicating a contact has the ability to do a video chat or voice chat... Though I can see a "Mobile" symbol which say "Online from a mobile or Phone device". PS: I can see a video call, Audio call option enables when I right click on a particular contact. I don't see any option to configure anything like that. OS : Ubuntu 12.10 Gnome 3.6.1 (PPA) Empathy : 3.6.0.3

• Why hamachi time-outs after 5 minutes or so?

  I installed hamachi and hamachi-gui on my girlfriend's pc and on my girlfriend's netbook. After 5 minutes or so (even if I keep using it during that time) it loses the connection, I mean I have to 'go offline' and then 'go online' again for it to see my ip again. If I don't and I ping my IP, it says 'Host unreachable'. If I connect with my Mac from the office the problem doesn't exist, so I wouldn't say it is a problem of my hamachi (server) installation, I'm tempted to say it is a problem of my girlfriend's connection, since it happens from her home, and we haven't tried yet to connect from another home with her setup. • Would md5 hashes allow detection of synced files?

  We have to develop our own file management system in Java web application. We need to sync files between our main server and client severs and find out whether all the client server has all the latest version of files. Our files are in pdf, doc and xls format they changes every now and then as and when it is required. What we are thinking of using MD5 checksum to find out hashcode of files on Main server and store it in database. Same would be there in Client Servers database. After comparing records on database we would come to know whether client servers are synced or not. Please suggest if there are any better ways to do the same.

  I was on geeks with blogs on win8, and noticed I couldn't create a new post.Now using chrome with 8 and I am posting.I am finding things I like about windows 8 and things that I just don't know yet.Like what's the shortcut key to bring me to a clean legacy desktop?And also what about those apps that get suspended like the explorer app when you go to mail, and your explorer app was in the middle of downloading a file. So you have to start the download again.I am impressed with some of the improvements, however I think in order for all these things to be accepted as a matter of well by the masses, chrome or firefox (ie won't do it) needs to upgrade their browsers to work with html5 and css3 fully. Obviously the first group that does that will be the browser of choice for any user.There are other observations that I am on the verge of making, but I need to research a bit more before making any comments on the new windows store visual studio 12 environment.Have a good day,Signing off.Foxjazz

Overview of requirements: There are 3 diff environments (DEV, TEST and PROD) which have a folder called 'common' that users across all envs. There are multiple servers in those 3 envs and we want to store their server environment specific configuration files in Clearcase. The executables files are different for each environment. Thus there will not be cross delivery require between dev/test/prod. Any thoughts on how we can approach this? Is keeping it simplest is the best approach here? One component to one vobs as (DEV_Serv1, TEST_Serv1, PROD_Serv1, Dev_Serv2, Test_Serv2 and etc)? OR Have multiple components VOB? One other thing is developers here like to use snapshots views.

  I'm building a management system for websites and I had an idea related to image galleries that I'm not sure it's a good approach. Since images might need good deals of space depending on how much images a user uploads an so on, I thought on using cloud services like dropbox, mega and google drive to store images and load then when needed. The obvious problem is that for me this seems a useless solution because it would be slow to download the images from the remote source, making the user experience not so good. Is there any way to save images of a image gallery on remote source without getting the user experience bad because of speed? Or this is really not a good practice?

  Beyond the obvious something that seams real, realism in games is a hard feature to hit. In some cases, things that are completely impossible in real life are seen as realistic by gamers. For instance, in some FPS you can survive being hit by a fair amount of bullets when in real life one is enough, Newton-defying car drifts, etc. So, in some cases, reductions of life-like actions or consequences implies a bigger sense of realism. The root of this pseudo-philosophical question lies in: I am going to create a engine for battles in an online (browser-based) strategic game. Browser-based means that the battle would not be seen. And i do not know how to approach this realism issue.

  When setting up a database I want to use the most efficient data type for potentially fairly long data. Currently my project is to store song titles and thoughts pertaining to that song. Some titles might be 5 characters or longer than 100 characters and the thoughts could run pretty long. Is it more efficient to use a varchar set to 8000 or to use a blob? Is using a blob the same as a varchar, in that there is a set size it is allocated regardless of what it holds? or is it just a pointer and it doesn't really use much space on the table? Is there a certain set size of a blob in KB or is it expandable?

I'm looking for a store to buy a suitable adaptor in locally and I can't find that particular adaptor - but I can see a Belkin F7D4101az. I think this is simply a newer model - but a Google search for "ubuntu belkin f7d4101az" brings no results - not even people trying to get it to work. Nothing. So I didn't want to purchase it without being sure.   I started using Ubuntu a very short time ago, and it was working perfectly! I upgraded to 12.04 yesterday, and today I realize that everything is running slow. For example, video streaming online, from sites such as Youtube is not working correctly, audio and video breaks constantly. I have a 64 bit system, with a Intel® Core™2 Duo, 2.10GHz × 2 . I don't know what more to add. I tried free -m on the terminal, it returned that I had only 524MB free from 3858MB. All that i have running at this point is Mozilla Firefox.

I saw this thing called the "impossible object", while they're many different images of this online, it's suppost to be impossible geometry. Here is an example: Now as far as logic goes, I know you don't have to obey it in games, such as a flying cow, or an impossible object.   I have a rather cool space invaders game that my friend and I have been working on for a while, and we have decided it needs an opening page, with "Start" options, "Quit" options and so forth. I have looked at several methods online, but cant seem to get any of them to work! Does anybody have any ideas? P.S Using JFrame to draw the main frame Im just looking to do this within Java, so just a panel that appears at a state change (GAME, MENU). Id like it to contain a few buttons to start the game, and quit. Later, I will add achievements, but im after something really basic for now. But thanks for the suggestions!
