• Dummy SMTP Server for testing apps that send email

  I have a lot of apps that send email. Sometimes it's one or two messages at a time. Sometimes it's thousands of messages. In development, I usually test by substituting my own address for any recipient addresses. I'm sure that's what everybody else does, until they get fed up with it and find a better solution. I was thinking about creating a dummy SMTP server that just catches the messages and dumps them in a SQLLite database, or an mbox file, or whatever. But surely such a tool already exists? How do you test sending email?

  Hi, Is there a way in Eunit to test whether an exception has been thrown under certain cicumstances? Say I have a function sum like this: sum(N, M) when N > M -> throw({"start is bigger than end", N, M}); sum(N, M) when N =:= M -> N; sum(N, M) when N =< M -> N + sum(N + 1, M).   Our first ASP.Net MVC/jQuery product is about to go to QA, and we're looking for a way for our QA guys to easily be able to simulate bad Ajax requests (without modifying the application code). A typical integration/UI test plan might be: Load page, click button "DoStuff" "DoStuff" fails Attempt button "DoStuff" again "DoStuff" succeeds Verify application state This is a simple test case - there will be cases with multiple failures and successes interspersed. Aside from "unplug your network cable" I'm looking for an easy way for our guys to simulate intermittent bad server responses. I'm open to any ideas so I won't go into too many details about our application setup or dependencies. How have you handled this?

As I am passing string as file name, dont know whether it is relative or absolute path. Can any body tell me how to get absolutre path after file has been successfully open using std::ifstream function. e.g. std::ifstream file(strFile); // strFile = "file.txt" or strFile = "C:\test\file.txt" I want absolute path after file open successfully. • Maximizing Adobe Air windows on multiple monitors

  In an Adobe Air AJAX application with multiple windows running on a system with multiple (three or more) monitors, can you maximize the windows in each monitor? I've seen posts by others trying to do this, but I've not seen anyone saying how it worked out. I basically need to build a 'status monitor' system (similar to, say, an airport departures monitor) in which there are public-facing displays that need to look and feel like single-purpose, embedded applications -- no window chrome and no visible desktop. I don't think this should be any different from any other windows application, but I don't know about Air. I have a dual-monitor Mac setup right now, but I can't easily test Windows and I likely will never be able to test three monitors at once. This application will be run as an AJAX Air application written in Aptana (or DW if it makes a difference).

• Selenium not finding LiveValidation text.

  I am using the Selenium IDE to test some of my web development. I am using the JQuery LiveValidation in my code. I have an input box with some javascript behind it that will do a regular expresson and either ouput "OK" or "Error" next to the input text box based on what the user has entered. For some reason when testing with selenium the LiveValidation will not get triggered no matter what I do and therefore I can not test it. When I do it manually it works great. Has anyone run into this problem before? Any help would be appreciated.

However, in Firefox (but not Explorer or Chrome) after you click the button and the text displays, the status bar continues to show "Transferring data from test.development..." which erroneously gives the user the belief that something is still loading. I've noticed that if you click on another Firefox tab and then back on the original one, the message goes away, so it seems to be just a Firefox bug that doesn't clear the status bar automatically. Is there a way to clear the status bar automatically in Firefox? or a way to explicitly tell it that the async loading is finished so it can clear the status bar itself?   I make a call to the twitter API. 100 posts are retreived + a properties that tells me what the next page to call is. So I wait 5 sec. and call that next page, but the JSon results in the callback function is always null the second time... I think it's probably a JQuery problem...   I created a web service which has a few web methods which inturn performs inserts/updates/select from a Sql Server and return non-primitive types. To test the web methods I tried using the Open source tool .net web service studio When I test for the web methods, I get the following error - Request for the permission of type 'System.Data.SqlClient.SqlClientPermission, System.Data, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089' failed. I searched for solutions and I tried a lot of approaches like setting up the permission levels, the trust level in config file etc. But the error still persists. Can anyone tell me what could be the reason for this error? I have tried toggling the permissions at all levels - Sql Server, web service etc. How can I fix this error?

  I have a program that implements several heuristic search algorithms and several domains, designed to experimentally evaluate the various algorithms. The program is written in C++, built using the GNU toolchain, and run on a 64-bit Ubuntu system. When I run my experiments, I use bash's ulimit command to limit the amount of virtual memory the process can use, so that my test system does not start swapping. Certain algorithm/test instance combinations hit the memory limit I have defined. Most of the time, the program throws an std::bad_alloc exception, which is printed by the default handler, at which point the program terminates. Occasionally, rather than this happening, the program simply segfaults. Why does my program occasionally segfault when out of memory, rather than reporting an unhandled std::bad_alloc and terminating?

  To see how binding Java objects to symbols in a dynamic language works, I wrote the following spike test, binding a java.lang.Integer to the symbol i to be changed in JavaScript: @Test public void bindToLocalVariable() throws ScriptException { javax.script.ScriptEngineManager sem = new javax.script.ScriptEngineManager(); javax.script.ScriptEngine engine = sem.getEngineByName("JavaScript"); Integer i = new Integer(17); engine.put( "i", i ); engine.eval( "i++;" ); // Now execute JavaScript assertEquals( 18, i.intValue() ); } Unfortunately, I get a failure. java.lang.AssertionError: expected:<18> but was:<17> JavaScript knows the symbol i (otherwise it would have thrown a ScriptException which is not the case), but the increment operation i++ is not performed on the original Integer object. Any explanations?

  As the question states, what exactly are the implications of having the 'implicit declaration of function' warning? We just cranked up the warning flags on gcc and found quite a few instances of these warnings and I'm curious what type of problems this may have caused prior to fixing them? Also, why is this a warning and not an error. How is gcc even able to successfully link this executable? As you can see in the example below, the executable functions as expected. Take the following two files for example: file1.c #include <stdio.h> int main(void) { funcA(); return 0; } file2.c #include <stdio.h> void funcA(void) { puts("hello world"); } Compile & Output $ gcc -Wall -Wextra -c file1.c file2.c file1.c: In function 'main': file1.c:3: warning: implicit declaration of function 'funcA' $ gcc -Wall -Wextra file1.o file2.o -o test.exe $ ./test.exe hello world

  Hi, i've written this peace of code: var a=function(){ }; a.name="test"; a.prop="test2"; Now if i debug the code with the console: console.log(a.name); console.log(a.prop); In Firefox i get a.name="test" and a.prop="test2", while in Safari and Chrome i get a.prop="test2" but a.name="". It seems that there's no way to assign a "name" property on a function in Webkit browsers. Do you know why? But the most important thing is, do you know a workaround for that?

  At the moment I have two tables, products and options. Products contains id title description Options contains id product_id sku title Sample data may be: Products id: 1 title: 'test' description: 'my description' Options id: 1 product_id: 1 sku: 1001 title: 'red' id: 2 product_id: 1 sku: 1002 title: 'blue' I need to display each item, with each different option. At the moment, I select the rows in products and iterate through them, and for each one select the appropriate rows from options. I then create an array, similar to: [product_title] = 'test'; [description] = 'my description'; [options][] = 1, 1001, 'red'; [options][] = 2, 1002, 'blue'; Is there a better way to do this with just sql (I'm using codeigniter, and would ideally like to use the Active Record class)?
