• PHP => Alternative to session data?

  i have a Web Application where Cookies and Session are both important. Since the Web Application is load balanced on different server, i am looking for suggestions to Alternative Store for the Session data that all server will be able to access. Some sessions could live up to severals days. The solutions that come to my mind: - Native PHP Sessions (this is the one i want to stop using) - MySQL Database - Serialize and write to a file (i want to avoid this, for performances) - Memcache (however it could become very big or older data getting knocked out) Thanks in advance!

• Adding custom fields to users in django

  I am the create_user() function that Django provides to create my users. Also I want to store additional information about the users. So I tried following the instructions given at http://docs.djangoproject.com/en/dev/topics/auth/#storing-additional-information-about-users but I cannot get it to work for me. Is there a step-by-step guide that I can follow to get this to work for me? Also, once I have added these custom fields, I would obviously need to add / edit / delete data from them. I cannot seem to find any instructions on how to do this.

  I work with Apache, PHP, and MySQL for web development and local applications. For the past couple of years I have slowly been learning C++ and want to build an application this summer. Specifically, I want to make a "library" application in which I can store information about the books, CDs, and records that I own. I know this type of app exists, but I want to learn C++ and this seems like a good way to go about it. Here are a few questions: Is it possible to create a stand-alone application that does not require a database for storing data? If the answer to #1 above is "yes", is it a good idea to do this for an application that could potentially need to manage a lot of data? What data-storage options would you recommend for use with a C++ application? Thanks!

• How to load modules in Java

  I'm building a server that loads modules. Each module is a .jar file. Inside the jar there's all the classes that the module needs. The server needs to read the jar, find the main class (it doesnt have the main method on it is just the class that makes the module work but not as a different program), build an object of that class and store it in a vector of modules so that it can acces to a specific module depending on the job to be done. How can I do that? As far as the server, it is listening and receiving request, but there's no modules to delegate the job to, since my vector of modules is empty.

  I have a parent class and child class (inherited from parent). In the child class, I have a member function named function_blah(); I used vector<parent*> A to store 5 parent instances, 3 child instances. So the total number of elements in the vector is 8. I can easily access to member functions of element A[0] to A[4], which are parent instances. But whenever I try to have access to member functions of element A[5] to A[7], the compiler complains that class parent has no member named 'function_blah' The way I access to elements is using index. e.x A[i] with i = 0..7. Is it correct? if not, how?

• Is it possible to resolve domain names to an IP address with PHP?

  Well, very simple question. So that's good news for you, I guess. More thorough explanation: I have a PHP script allowing me to add urls to a database. I want the script to resolve the url to an IP address as well, to store that, too. However, some of the URLs are like this: http://111.111.111.111/~example/index.php So it also needs to work with that. I'm not SURE that this is possible, but it only makes sense it would be. So: Is it possible, and if so, how?

• what happens when I don't manage to call `recv` fast enough?

  Hi all, I want to account for a possible scenario where clients of my TCP/IP stream socket service send data to my service faster than it manages to move the data to its buffers (I am talking about application buffers, naturally) with recv and work with it. So basically, what happens in such scenarios? Obviously, some sort of service beneath my service which is a user application, has to receive incoming stream and store it somewhere until I issue 'recv', right? Most certainly the operating system. I don't want to re-open old questions, but I can't seem to find an answer to this seemingly obvious one?

  I am using javascript map to store keys and values.Later on I check if specified key is present in map or not, but it sometimes gives correct result but sometimes it dont.I tried to print the map using console.log(mapname), it shows all keys, but i i try to check if some specified key is presnt sometimes it gives wrong answer. • Parsing csv line to Java objects

  I was wondering if someone here could help me, I can't find a solution for my problem and I have tried everything. What I am trying to do is read and parse lines in a csv file into java objects and I have succeeded in doing that but after it reads all the lines it should insert the lines into the database but it only inserts the 1st line the entire time and I don't no why. When I do a print it shows that it is reading all the lines and placing them in the objects but as soon as I do the insert it wants to insert only the 1st line. • Show parts of the result of an SQL statement using PHP

  I have an SQL query which returns a set of data (around 40-50 tuples). I would like to display the results 5 at a time on an HTML page using PHP. I already managed to have the right SELECT statement, but i am having problems to display the results 5 by 5 using a "more" button. Can you please help? Note that every time i call the query, the data is being randomized, so it is not possible to set limits and call the query again. I have to find the method to store the results somewhere, and then show them 5 by 5.

• Pulling international street addresses / phone numbers from free-form text

  Hey, folks. I'm looking for some regular expressions to help grab street addresses and phone numbers from free-form text (a la Gmail). Given some text: "John, I went to the store today, and it was awesome! Did you hear that they moved to 500 Green St.? ... Give me a call at +14252425424 when you get a chance." I'd like to be able to pull out: 500 Green St. (recognized as a street address) +14252425424 (recognized as a phone number) What makes this problem easier is that I don't care about parsing text that gets pulled out. That is, I don't care that Green is the name of the road or that 425 is the area code. I just want to grab strings that "look like" addresses or telephone numbers. Unfortunately, this needs to work internationally, as best as possible. Anyone have any leads? Thanks!

What I would like to do is have two tabs, one is a home screen that displays numbers and percentages that are entered on the second tab.   I have an ArrayList of objects where each object contains a string 'word' and a date. I need to check to see if the date has passed for a list of 500 words. The ArrayList could contain up to a million words and dates. The dates I store as integers, so the problem I have is attempting to find the word I am looking for in the ArrayList. Is there a way to make this faster? In python I have a dict and mWords['foo'] is a simple lookup without looping through the whole 1 million items in the mWords array. • PHP - displaying 1 random record for each week

  I want to display 1 random record from a database based on the week. I need to determine if it's a new, and if it is a new week, then select the record and display the new record. I'm thinking I can just use a single day of the week to generate the new record, either way will work. I'm really having a hard time conceptualizing how I'll store the record id and not select a new one when someone visits again the same day or refreshes the page. Any ideas? Let me know if I wasn't clear enough.

  Hi all, I want to declare a dictionary that stores typed IEnumerable's of a specific type, with that exact type as key, like so: private IDictionary<T, IEnumerable<T>> _dataOfType where T: BaseClass; //does not compile! The concrete classes I want to store, all derive from BaseClass, therefore the idea to use it as constraint. The compiler complains that it expects a semicolon after the member name.   Hello, I am working in Visual Studio 2005, .NET 2.0. I need to write an application, which listens on COM port and saves incoming data to a database. Main feature: save incoming data (series of 13-digits numbers), if this number allready exists, then mark it as double. For example, there could be these records in database: 0000000000001 OK 0000000000002 OK 0000000000002 Double 0000000000003 OK 0000000000004 OK I could use SQL database, but I don't know if it is fast enough... Database should be able to store up to 10.000.000 records and write up to 100 records per minute (so it needs to check 100 times per minute if this record allready exists). Which database should I use? Maybe the whole database would need to be in RAM. Where could I learn more about this? Thanks

  I have hourly logs like user1:joined user2:log out user1:added pic user1:added comment user3:joined I want to compress all the flat files down to one file. There are around 30 million users in the logs and I just want the latest user log for all the logs. My end result is I want to have a log look like user1:added comment user2:log out user3:joined Now my first attempt on a small scale was to just do a dict like log['user1'] = "added comment" Will doing a dict of 30 million key/val pairs have a giant memory footprint.. Or should I use something like sqllite to store them.. then just put the contents of the sqllite table back into a file?

  Hey, How often do we see stuff like "Send this page to a friend" on a webpages? Well, I see them quite often. My question is, how do you guys see it's effectiveness? If I hit a webpage that's interesting, and I think my friend would enjoy it, I can just copy the URL from my browser bar, paste it into the email and press "Send" button. In my opinion, it's usually faster and less mistake-aware then the button/link like this on the webpage. In addition, I'm not really sure what this website does with the emails I enter there - don't they store it and then sell for $1/100 addresses to spammers? My question is - when you design a website, do you put such links on the pages (it's often seen on sites with some news/articles)? Does it even make sense?

• Is it possible to have a .NET route that maps to the same place as a directory?

  I'm building a CMS using WebForms on .NET 4.0 and have the following route that allows URLs like www.mysite.com/about to be mapped to the Page.aspx page, which looks up the dynamic content. routes.MapPageRoute("page", "{name}", "~/Page.aspx"); The problem is that I have a couple of folders in my project that are interfering with possible URLs. For example, I have a folder called "blog" where I store pages related to handling blog functionality, but if someone creates a page for their site called "blog" then navigating to www.mysite.com/blog gets the following error: 403 - Forbidden: Access is denied. You do not have permission to view this directory or page using the credentials that you supplied. Other similar URLs route correctly, but I think because .NET is identifying /blog as a physical location on the server it is denying directory access. Is there a way to tell IIS / .NET to only look for physical files instead of files and folders?
