  • Noob proftpd questions

    - by Camran
I have setup my VPS pretty much now, and want to upload some basic files to the server. How is this done in Ubuntu 9.10? I have PuTTY and use the terminal there... Is there any ftp program, like in regular managed hostings, to just upload files with? I was thinking about proftpd, but don't have a clue how to get it to work. I am using my home-laptop with windows xp to command the VPS. Thanks

  • Web-Based Virtual Machine Manager

    - by Pete Redhead
I am looking for a web-based virtual machine manager, which will work on our Ubuntu server. Ideally, I need something that our team can use to create a VM, test builds and packaging and then either restore to the original state or delete. libvirt has an API, but I can't find any web apps using it. Thanks

I just acquired a Wi-Fire long-range wi-fi adapter, and I would like to test it with my Ubuntu desktop computer. However, my machine defaults to using a built-in wireless card. How can I set my new wireless adapter as the default wireless connection? How can I disable my internal wireless card (without opening my computer case)?

  • Language for google search field in firefox toolbar is wrong

    - by Andrew
I've got a fresh install of Ubuntu 9.10 (64 bit) and for some reason the Google search field in the Firefox toolbar always searches google.jp. Given that I'm in Australia and struggle to read Japanese this is somewhat less than useful to me. Does anyone know how I can change the language/Google site that search field uses?

  • Firefox does not redirect to correct page.

    - by Jaakko
I'm using Ubuntu 10.04 and Firefox 3.6.3. If I type wrong URL like youtube, it won't redirect me to the correct site. Instead the address would be jar:file:///usr/lib/firefox-3.6.3/chrome/en-US.jar!/locale/browser-region/region.propertiesyoutube and Firefox can't find any page.

  • Can't install "Docky" theme?

    - by Earl Larson
So to install a theme for Docky on Ubuntu I had to extract the theme from the Archive Manager via root to /usr/local/share/docky/themes. I did this but it didn't show up in the theme choices. Then I tried just pressing the install button and locating it but I couldn't see the tar file. I then extracted the tar file to the desktop and tried selecting that to install but nothing. What am I doing wrong!?

  • How to boot Linux and Windows - Windows as Default OS

    - by lions_leash
I have a dual boot system that works great. I have Ubuntu and XP 64 on one disk and XP on another disk. The Linux boot loader asks me which system to boot, but if I reboot and forget to hit a button, it goes to Linux by default. I would like to boot to XP by default, but somehow retain the option of choosing.

  • keepass not working with wine

    - by Decio Lira
I installed Keepass 1.16 in my thumbdrive, which reportedly works with wine (as per Keepass homepage), but after entering the master password it just hangs and shows the "The program keepass has encountered a serious problem and needs to close" screen. I got this error msg among the stack trace on the terminal: wine: Call from 0x7b844633 to unimplemented function bcrypt.dll.BCryptOpenAlgorithmProvider, aborting On windows, everything runs fine. I'm using wine-1.1.27 on ubuntu 9.04 Any thoughts?

  • LXC container can only access host via bridge

    - by vitaut
I have an LXC container with i686 Ubuntu 12.04 running on a x86_64 Ubuntu 12.04 host. I've set up a bridge using instructions here. However the ping from the container only goes through to the host and not to other machines on the local network. Similarly only the host and not the other machines see the container OS. The host's /etc/network/interfaces file looks as follows: auto lo iface lo inet loopback iface eth0 inet manual auto br0 iface br0 inet dhcp bridge_ports eth0 bridge_fd 0 bridge_maxwait 0 The container's /etc/network/interfaces file looks as follows: auto lo iface lo inet loopback auto eth0 iface eth0 inet dhcp And here's the relevant part of the container's config: lxc.network.type=veth lxc.network.link=br0 lxc.network.flags=up Any ideas what I'm doing wrong? • Give the www user chmod permissions

    - by Derrick
Ive got a website (run on Ubuntu Server) that needs to modify and delete files, every now and again it comes across a file that it needs to run "chmod" on in order to perform it's operations. However it seems as tho the 'www' user does not have permission to run 'chmod' on any files. So I'm looking for the command to allow the 'www' user to do its thing on files inside the /var/www folder and also the /var/logs folder for example. Thanks.

  • How to get rid of Gmail's on "behalf of" using postfix

    - by user2815
I'm using the default configuration of postfix on Ubuntu 9.04, and I've been trying to configure Gmail to send email through my server. I'm looking for a simple configuration for 10-15 users (like using a password file), but all the tutorials I have found have been too extensive and seem very enterprise-oriented. I just need to configure postfix with AUTH/TLS that is compatible with gmail.
