  • Select item in CascadingDropDown via JavaScript & invoke update

    - by akosch
    In code-behind I can do this to select something: // Select item in first DropDownList myCascadingDropDown_1.SelectedValue = itemValue_1+":::"+itemText_1; // Select item in second DropDownList myCascadingDropDown_2.SelectedValue = itemValue_2+":::"+itemText_2; How can I do this in JavaScript? (I'm aware, that I could search the list and set the selectedIndex property for each dropdown, but I have many items and i'm very lazy.) EDIT: npups answer works: I can select my desired item in the first dropdownlist. The problem is however, that new values based on that selected item (it is a CascadingDropDown, remember?) don't show in the second dropdown so I can't select anything there. I would need to somehow invoke the update method of the second dropdown manually: any suggestions?

  • Lucene.Net - How to treat a space-seperated phrase as a single token?

    - by Gareth D
    I've implemented a search facility using Lucene.Net. The index includes UK academic qualifications, including "A Level". I'd like the users to be able to search using the phrase "A Level", but using the Standrad Analyser the "A" is stripped out as a stop-word and therefore only "Level" is indexed/searched. What's my best option to work around this? I'm guessing I need to somehow tokenise "A Level" to "A-Level" or similar by creating a custom analyser. Is this the best approach? Note that I want don't want the whole search to be a phrase query. i.e. in my search box I want the user to be able to enter <"A Level" AND English Maths Physics and this would return any with "A Level" and either of English MAths or Physics. Question updated to reflect this.

  • ASP.NET MVC4: How to convert an IEnumerable to a string for ViewBag

    - by sehummel
    This is what I'm trying to do, but it doesn't work: HardwareType hwt = new HardwareType { HType = "PC" }; IEnumerable<Hardware> Pcs = db.Hardware.Where(h => h.HardwareType.Contains(hwt)); ViewBag.Pcs = Pcs.ToString(); So how do I convert my IEnumerable to a string (or other primitive data type) so the compiler won't give me an error when I try to use it in my Razor? @foreach (var item in ViewBag.Pcs) { <li><a href="#" class="btn"><i class="icon-hdd"></i> @item.HType</a></li> }

  • Customer provider Password Reset client.

    - by ProfK
    I'm looking for guidence on writing a custom password reset UI, but it must fit the Provider 'Pattern', or degrade silently to built-in defaults. E.g. my Reset Control must collect extra information, and perform differently to the standard Password Recovery Control. It must close as possible use the standard MembershipProvider interface for standard functions, and only use an extended interface for the non-standard stuff. I'd like some reading on issues such as, what must I ask the Membership Provider for, and what must I do myself. What must I tell the provider (service?) about what I do? Etc.

  • Why does GetExportedValues<T>() no longer work after using the .net 4 final version of MEF?

    - by BigJason
    I have been developing a managed extensibility framework application for the last several months using the community preview. I have been using the GetExportedValues() method and the PartCreationPolicy(CreationPolicy.NonShared) to fake a class factory (since only the silverlight version supports a factory). This was working great until I upgraded the project to use .net 4.0. There is no error, it just doesn't work. So why did this code stop working? The code follows: The factory method: public static IEnumerable<DataActionBase> GetActionsFromDirectory(string PluginsFolder) { IEnumerable<DataActionBase> result = null; var catalog = new DirectoryCatalog(PluginsFolder); var container = new CompositionContainer(catalog: catalog); result = container.GetExportedValues<DataActionBase>(); return result; } Example Export Class: [Export(typeof(DataActionBase))] [PartCreationPolicy(CreationPolicy.NonShared)] public class AnAction : DataActionBase { .... }

  • Case Statements versus coded if statements

    - by Eric
    What is more efficient - handling with case statements in sql or handling the same data using if statements in code. I'm asking because my colleague has a huge query that has many case statements. I advised her to take stress off of the DB by coding the case statements. I've found that it is more efficient...but why?

  • Session_End Alternatives

    - by grimus
    I have seen in some other questions that using Session_ End() in Global.asax.cs is not advised. This is because if you're not using the default Session handler, Session_End won't get called, correct? Is there any other cases where it won't get called? The big question is: If you can't depend on Session_End(), what do you do to determine when a session has closed?

  • Need Help With ASP.NET Custom Route

    - by Jason
    I need to create a custom route to list all the rooms in a given building. So, I want the url to look something like this: /Building/1000/Room Which would list all the rooms in Building 1000. Is this the correct mapping for the route (to call the IndexByBuilding method in RoomController)? routes.MapRoute( "RoomsByBuilding", "Building/{id}/Room", new { controller = "Room", action = "IndexByBuilding", id = "" } );

  • ASP.NET MVC2 : DateTime modelbinding via HTTP GET

    - by mathieu
    I'm getting some trouble binding a date from QueryString : I have the following model public class QueryParms { public DateTime Date { get; set; } } And the following controller action : public ActionResult Search( QueryParms query ); I have a form, with a field where I can type my date. If the form is FormMethod.Post, everything is fine, my date is correctly bound to my model. If the form is FormMethod.Get, it is not working anymore. The date is left to the default value (01/01/0001) I think it is a culture issue : When i look into the value provider, the FormValueProvider has a culture property set for my date : {fr-FR}. The QueryStringValueProvider doesn't have the culture property set. Is there a way to set this property ?

  • Extension methods on a static object

    - by Max Malygin
    I know (or so I hear) that writing extension methods for a single stand alone .net class (not an implementation of IEnumerable) is potential code smell. However, for the sake of making the life easier I need to attach a method to the ConfigurationManager class in asp.net. It's a static object so this won't work: public static List<string> GetSupportedDomains(this ConfigurationManager manager) { //the manager needs to be static. } So the question is - is it possible to write an extension method for a static class in .net?

  • How can I open another tab in the browser from the Code Behind [duplicate]

    - by Daniel Powell
    This question already has an answer here: Response.Redirect to new window 18 answers I have an ASP.Net project that I am working on that involves opening another tab in the browser from the vb.net (code behind). I have tried to use the WebBrowser control to open the new tab as well as tried to use the Script manager however I have not been able to open the new tab. The button I am using is a custom button in a DevExpress GridView, and I am handling its click with this code: Private Sub ASPxGridView2_CustomButtonCallback(sender As Object, e As DevExpress.Web.ASPxGridView.ASPxGridViewCustomButtonCallbackEventArgs) Handles ASPxGridView2.CustomButtonCallback If e.ButtonID <> "customButton" Then Return End If Dim neededID = ASPxGridView2.GetRowValues(e.VisibleIndex, "target") Dim id = CStr(neededID) Dim url = ("targetPage.aspx" + "?ID=" + id) Dim wb As WebBrowser wb.Navigate(url,True) End Sub I'm not sure why this would not work, any suggestions as to how I should open a new browser tab with or without the WebBrowser works for this project. EDIT: I cannot use javascript with this ASPxGridview So I need an answer that doesn't involve modification to the javascript except through the vb.net code behind

  • CSV file download ignored in ie8/9

    - by JBB
    I have some code in a button click event which gets a csv string from a hidden input and writes it to the response as a CSV file. This work fine in Chrome, Firefox, ie7, ie9 in quirks mode. However it does not work in ie8 or ie9 default. Looking at this in fiddler the csv is being written to the response but the another get request is being made immediately after and the page reloads. No file saving dialog appears. protected void btnCsvHidden_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { var csv = csvString.Value; var filename = "Reporting"; Response.Clear(); Response.ClearHeaders(); Response.AddHeader("Cache-Control", "no-store, no-cache"); Response.AddHeader("content-disposition", "attachment; filename=\"" + filename + ".csv\""); Response.ContentType = "text/csv"; Response.Write(csv); Response.End(); }

  • Handling Model Inheritance in ASP.NET MVC2

    - by enth
    I've gotten myself stuck on how to handle inheritance in my model when it comes to my controllers/views. Basic Model: public class Procedure : Entity { public Procedure() { } public int Id { get; set; } public DateTime ProcedureDate { get; set; } public ProcedureType Type { get; set; } } public ProcedureA : Procedure { public double VariableA { get; set; } public int VariableB { get; set; } public int Total { get; set; } } public ProcedureB : Procedure { public int Score { get; set; } } etc... many of different procedures eventually. So, I do things like list all the procedures: public class ProcedureController : Controller { public virtual ActionResult List() { IEnumerable<Procedure> procedures = _repository.GetAll(); return View(procedures); } } but now I'm kinda stuck. Basically, from the list page, I need to link to pages where the specific subclass details can be viewed/edited and I'm not sure what the best strategy is. I thought I could add an action on the ProcedureController that would conjure up the right subclass by dynamically figuring out what repository to use and loading the subclass to pass to the view. I had to store the class in the ProcedureType object. I had to create/implement a non-generic IRepository since I can't dynamically cast to a generic one. public virtual ActionResult Details(int procedureID) { Procedure procedure = _repository.GetById(procedureID, false); string className = procedure.Type.Class; Type type = Type.GetType(className, true); Type repositoryType = typeof (IRepository<>).MakeGenericType(type); var repository = (IRepository)DependencyRegistrar.Resolve(repositoryType); Entity procedure = repository.GetById(procedureID, false); return View(procedure); } I haven't even started sorting out how the view is going to determine which partial to load to display the subclass details. I'm wondering if this is a good approach? This makes determining the URL easy. It makes reusing the Procedure display code easy. Another approach is specific controllers for each subclass. It simplifies the controller code, but also means many simple controllers for the many procedure subclasses. Can work out the shared Procedure details with a partial view. How to get to construct the URL to get to the controller/action in the first place? Time to not think about it. Hopefully someone can show me the light. Thanks in advance.

  • jQuery replacement for Default Button or Link

    - by pyccki
    As everyone knows, that default button doesn't work in FF, only IE. I've tried to put in the tag or in the and it's not working. I've found a js script to fix this issue, but for some reason it's not working for me. This script for a submit button, i need to use it for a LinkButton, which is should be the same. Link: <div id="pnl"> <a id="ctl00_cphMain_lbLogin" title="Click Here to LogIn" href="javascript:WebForm_DoPostBackWithOptions(new WebForm_PostBackOptions(&quot;ctl00$cphMain$lbLogin&quot;, &quot;&quot;, true, &quot;Login1&quot;, &quot;&quot;, false, true))">Log In</a> <input name="ctl00$cphMain$UserName" type="text" id="ctl00_cphMain_UserName" /> <input name="ctl00$cphMain$UserName" type="text" id="ctl00_cphMain_UserName1" /> </div> <script> $(document).ready(function() { $("#pnl").keypress(function(e) { if ((e.which && e.which == 13) || (e.keyCode && e.keyCode == 13)) { $("a[id$='_lbLogin']").click(); return true; } }); }); I know that i can override original function "*WebForm_FireDefaultButton*" in This post, but i really wanted to get this one to work. Thanx in advance!!!

  • ASP.NET MVC3 ValueProvider drops string input to a double property

    - by Daniel Koverman
    I'm attempting to validate the input of a text box which corresponds to a property of type double in my model. If the user inputs "foo" I want to know about it so I can display an error. However, the ValueProvider is dropping the value silently (no errors are added to the ModelState). In a normal submission, I fill in "2" for the text box corresponding to myDouble and submit the form. Inspecting controllerContext.HttpContext.Request.Form shows that myDouble=2, among other correct inputs. bindingContext.ValueProvider.GetValue("myDouble") == 2, as expected. The bindingContext.ModelState.Count == 6 and bindingContext.ModelState["myDouble"].Errors.Count == 0. Everything is good and the model binds as expected. Then I fill in "foo" for the text box corresponding to myDouble and submitted the form. Inspecting controllerContext.HttpContext.Request.Form shows that myDouble=foo, which is what I expected. However, bindingContext.ValueProvider.GetValue("myDouble") == null and bindingContext.ModelState.Count == 5 (The exact number isn't important, but it's one less than before). Looking at the ValueProvider, is as if myDouble was never submitted and the model binding occurs as if it wasn't. This makes it difficult to differentiate between a bad input and no input. Is this the expected behavior of ValueProvider? Is there a way to get ValueProvider to report when conversion fails without implementing a custom ValueProvider? Thanks!

  • .NET CF 2.0: Stream implements IDisposable ... kind of?

    - by mvanbem
    I've run into something odd in a .NET CF 2.0 project for Pocket PC 2003 (Visual Studio 2005). I was dealing with a System.IO.Stream object and found that the IDE wouldn't auto-complete the Dispose() method. I typed it in manually and received: 'System.IO.Stream.Dispose(bool)' is inaccessible due to its protection level The error is referring to the protected Dispose(bool) method. Dispose() is either private or not present. Question 1: How is this possible? Stream implements IDisposable: public abstract class Stream : MarshalByRefObject, IDisposable ... and IDisposable requires a Dispose() method: public interface IDisposable { void Dispose(); } I know the compiler won't let me get away with that in my code. Question 2: Will I cause problems by working around and disposing my streams directly? IDisposable idisp = someStream; idisp.Dispose(); The implicit cast is accepted by the compiler.
