• How do I create a .NET Web Service that Posts items to a users Facebook Wall?

  I'm currently toying around with the Clarity .NET Facebook API but am finding certain situations with authentication to be kind of limiting. I keep going through the tutorials but always end up hitting a brick wall with what I want to do. Perhaps I just cannot do it? I want to make a Web Service that takes in the require credentials (APIKey, SecretKey, UsersId (or Session Key?) and whatever else I would need), and then do various tasks: Post to users wall, add events etc. The problem I am having is this: The current documentation, examples and support provide a way to do this within the context of a Web site. Within this context, the required "connect" popup can be initiated and allow the user to authenticate and and connect the application. From that point on the Web can go on with its business to do what it needs to do. If I close the browser and come back to the page, I have to push the connect button again. Except this time, since I was already logged into facebook, I don't have to go through the whole connection process. But still ... How do applications like Tweetdeck get around this? They seemingly have you connect once, when you install their application, and you don't have to do it again. I would assume that this same idea would have to applied towards making a web service because: You don't know what context the user is in when making the Web service call. The web service methods being called could be coming from a Windows Form app, or code behind in a workflow.

• Using a CALayer in UITableViewCell

  On each cell of my table view I want to have a bar that the user can slide out from the right. On the bar I plan to have icons. So, to do this I subclassed UITableViewCell. On the cell I have implemented drawRect and in there I have already drawn a gradient and background color on the cell. From there, I can create a CALayer, give it a frame & background color, and add it as a sub layer to the Views subLayers array. I can do all that and it will display my layer on each UITableViewCell. I have added touch events to the cell so I can detect when the user touches the cell and for testing I have made it so when the user swipes, my CALayer gets wider. But the issue is, when the UITableView scrolls and reuses a cell whose CALayer has been widened, it doesn't recreate the CALayer. I have tried [myLayer setNeedsDisplay] and used the drawLayer:inContext method of its delegate and it doesn't get called. I have also tried telling call setNeedsDisplay on the cell in my UITableViewController hoping that that will cause a redraw, but it doesn't work. I'm not sure what I'm missing. I am new to CoreGraphics & CoreAnimation. I have read through the CoreAnimation Developers Guide, but I'm assuming I missing something. Any help would be great.

• PHP CURL Google Calendar using Private URL

  I'm trying to get an array of events from Google Calendar using the Private URL. I read the Google API document but I want to try doing this without using the ZEND library since I have no idea what the eventual server file structure is and avoid having other people edit the codes. I also did a search before posting and ran into the same condition where PHP CURL_EXEC returns false with the URL but I get a JSON file if the URL is open using a web browser. Since I'm using the Private URL, do I really need to authenticate against the Google server using ZEND? • JQUERY: Setting Active state on animated menu tabs

  I have image sprites that use JQuery to set the BG position on mouseover and mouseout events. When I set the active state BG position using JQUERY it works fine until I move my cursor away from the active 'tab' which then fires the mouseout event animation. What I want is the mouseClick event to stop the animation on the active tab but still allow the animation effect to work on the other tabs, and when another tab is clicked for the active state to be removed from the current tab to the new 'active' tab. • Flash video slooow in AIR 2 HTMLLoader component

  I am working on a full screen kiosk application in Flex 4/Air 2 using Flash Builder 4. We have a company training website which staff can access via the kiosk, and the main content is interactive flash training videos. Our target machines are by no means 'beefy', they are Atom n270s @ 1.6Ghz with 1Gb RAM. As it stands the videos are all but unusable when used from within the Air application, the application becomes completely unresponsive (100% cpu usage, click events take approx 5-10 seconds to register). So far I have tried: increasing the default frame rate from 24fps to 60. No improvement. nativeWindow.stage.frameRate = 60; running the videos in a stripped down version of my app, just a full screen HTMLLoader component pointed at the training website. No better than before. disabled hyper threading. The Atom CPU is split into two virtual cores, and the AIR app was only able to use one thread so maxed out at 50% CPU usage. Since the kiosk will only run the AIR app I am happy to loose hyper threading to increase the performance of the Air app. Marginal Improvement. The same website with the same videos is responsive if viewed in ie7 on the same machine, although Internet Explorer takes advantage of the CPU’s hyper threading. The flash videos are built with Adobe Captivate and from what I understand employee JavaScript to relay results back to the server. I will add more information about the video content asap as the training guru is back in the office later this week.

• Importing Variables from PHP 4 into Flash

  I'm trying to get variable importing from a PHP script before I implement it into a larger project. So far all I've gotten is headaches. //this is all thats in test.php other than the open and close brackets. The problem comes in that 'val' is undefined. • Deriving an HTMLElement Object from jQuery Object

  I'm doing a fairly exhaustive series of DOM manipulations where a few elements (specifically form elements) have some events. I am dynamically creating (actually cloning from a source element) several boxes and assigning a change() event to them. The change event executes, and within the context of the event, "this" is the HTML Element Object. What I need to do at this point however is determine a contact for this HTML Element Object. I have these objects stored already as jQuery entities in assorted arrays, but obviously [HTMLElement Object] != [Object Object] And the trick is that I cannot cast $(this) and make a valid comparison since that would create a new object and the pointer would be different. So... I've been banging my head against this for a while. In the past I've been able to circumvent this problem by doing an innerHTML comparison, but in this case the objects I am comparing are 100% identical, just there's lots of them. Therefore I need a solid comparison. This would be easy if I could somehow derive the HTMLElement object from my originating jQuery object. Thoughts, other ideas? Help. :(

  Hi, I have an ATL COM object that I am using from C#. [id(7), helpstring("method EnableLogging")] HRESULT EnableLogging([in] VARIANT_BOOL enableLogging); }; That is, it's a very simple interface. I also have some events that I send back too. Now, I would like to add something to the interface. In the ATL I have some results, which are currently structs and look like struct REPORT_LINE { string creationDate; string Id; string summary; }; All the members of the struct are std::string. I have an array of these that I need to get back to the C#. What's the best way to do this? I suspect someone is going to say, "hey, you can't just send std::string over COM like that. If so, fine, but what's the best way to modidfy the struct? Change the std::string to BSTR? And then how do I, 1) Set up the IDL to pass an array of structs (structs with BSTR or std::string) 2) If I must use SAFEARRAYS, how do I fill the SAFEARRAYS with the structs. • Silverlight 4 race condition with DataGrid master details control

  Basically I want a DataGrid (master) and details (textbox), where DataGrid is disabled during edit of details (forcing people to save/cancel)... Here's what I have... I have a DataGrid which serves as my master data. <data:DataGrid IsEnabled="{Binding CanLoad,ElementName=dsReminders}" ItemsSource="{Binding Data, ElementName=dsReminders}" > Its data comes from a DomainDataSource: <riaControls:DomainDataSource Name="dsReminders" AutoLoad="True" ... I have a bound Textbox which is the 'details' (very simple right now). There are buttons (Save/Cancel) which should be enabled when user tries to edit the text. Unfortunately Silverlight doesn't support UpdateSourceTrigger=PropertyChanged so I have to raise an event: <TextBox Text="{Binding SelectedItem.AcknowledgedNote, Mode=TwoWay, UpdateSourceTrigger=Explicit, ElementName=gridReminders}" TextChanged="txtAcknowledgedNote_TextChanged"/> The event to handle this calls BindingExpression.UpdateSource to update the source immediately: private void txtAcknowledgedNote_TextChanged(object sender, TextChangedEventArgs e) { BindingExpression be = txtAcknowledgedNote.GetBindingExpression(TextBox.TextProperty); be.UpdateSource(); } IN other words - typing in the textbox causes CanLoad of the DomainDataSource to become False (because we're editing). This in turn disables the DataGrid (IsEnabled is bound to it) and enables 'Cancel' and 'Save' buttons. However I'm running up against a race condition if I move quickly through rows in the DataGrid (just clicking random rows). The TextChanged presumably is being called on the textbox and confusing the DomainDataSource which then thinks there's been a change. So how should I disable the DataGrid while editing without having the race condition? One obvious solution would be to use KeyDown events to trigger the call to UpdateSource but I always hate having to do that.

  I got exception when I tried to delete one NSManageObject at the event of tableView:commitEditingStyle:forRowAtIndexPath:. Here is the part of my codes: - (void)tableView:(..)tableView commitEditingStyle:(..)editingStyle forRowAtIndexPath:(..)indexPath { if (editingStyle == UITableViewCellEditingStyleDelete) { [managedObjectContext deleteObject: [fetchedResultController objectAtIndexPath:indexPath]]; ... } } The exception was thrown at the line of deleteObject:(method of my local NSManagedObjectContext). This is the exception message: uncaught exception 'NSObjectInaccessibleException', reason: 'The NSManagedObject with ID:0x3d07a30 <x-coredata://0D2CC9CB-042B-496D-B3FE-5F1ED64EAB97/paymentType/p2> has been invalidated.' I tried to get entity object first and then to delete it. The entity looks OK but still the exception was at delete: NSManagedObject *entityToDelete = [fetchedResultsController objectAtIndexPath:indexPath]; [mangedObjectContext deleteObject:entityToDelete]; // Exception again. I am not sure if the entity object retrieved from the fetchedResultsController(NSFetchedResultsController type) cannot be deleted? If so, is there any other way to get the entity object for deleting? I found that in the Apple's Core Data Tutorial for iPhone with events example, there is on NSArray to hold event entity objects. I am not sure if that's necessory to use NSArray to hold my local entity objects and then use it for deleting?

• Is there a way in .NET to access the bytecode/IL/CLR that is currently running?

  Hi. I'd like to have access to the bytecode that is currently running or about to run in order to detect certain instructions and take specific actions (depending the instructions). In short, I'd like to monitor the bytecode in order to add safety control. Is this possible? I know there are some AOP frameworks that notify you of specific events, like an access to a field or the invocation of a method, but I'd like to skip that extra layer and just look at all the bytecode myself, throughout the entire execution of the application. I've already looked at the following questions (...among many many others ;) ):     Preprocessing C# - Detecting Methods     What CLR/.NET bytecode tools exist? as well as several AOP frameworks (although not in great detail, since they don't seem to do quite what I need) and I'm familiar with Mono.Cecil. I appreciate alternative suggestions, but I don't want to introduce the overhead of an AOP framework when what I actually need is access to the bytecode, without all the stuff they add on top to make it more user-friendly (... admittedly very useful stuff when you don't want to go low-level). • wxWidgets EVT_KILL_FOCUS

  Q1:I am using wxWidgets (C++) and have come accost a problem that i can not locate any help. I have created several wxTextCtrl boxes and would like the program to update the simple calculations in them when the user 'kills the focus.' I could not find any documentation on this subject on the wxWidgets webpage and Googling it only brought up wxPython. The two events i have found are: EVT_COMMAND_KILL_FOCUS - EVT_KILL_FOCUS for neither of which I could find any snippet for. Could anyone give me a short example or lead me to a page that would be helpful? Q2:Would i have to create an event to handle the focus being killed for each of my 8 wxTextCtrl boxes? In the case that i have to create a different event: How would i get each event to differentiate from each other? • Selenium onChange not working

  Hi, I have tried a number of things to try and get Selenium to pick up an 'onchange' event from a drop down menu, none of which has worked. The offending HTML is: <select onchange="doOpperation(this.options[this.selectedIndex]); this.selectedIndex = 0;" name="opps_ondemand" id="opps_ondemand"> <option value="none" id="ondemand">Mark as...</option> <option cmd="blah1" value="add">Something</option> <option cmd="blah2" value="remove">None</option> </select> I have read that Selenium IDE doesn't record some on* events, and so it would be wise to use fireEvent(): $this->click("opps_ondemand"); $this->select("opps_ondemand", "label=Mark as..."); $this->click("//option[@value='add']"); sleep(3); $this->fireEvent("//select[@id='opps_ondemand']", "change"); However, this does not work (with or without the fireEvent). I have also tried using $this->fireEvent("locator", "click"); instead of $this->click("locator"); but this did nothing. Selenium does not complain about these locators not existing so I am assuming it can see the select/option elements fine. The problem seems to be the onChange event. Does anyone know how to resolve this? Thanks.

• WPF/SL EventAggregator implementation with durable subscribers behavior?

  Hi. Currently I'm building an application using latest Prism for Silverlight 4. I've a module and in that module I've two views with view models. Also I've a module view with two regions for each view. In module initialization I'm registering my views and view models in Unity container and also register views with corresponding regions. The problem is that views should display something similar to table-detail information - first view shows available entities ans the second view shows detail of selected entity. I need a way how to pass them initial selected entity. Newly created first view doesn't have any selected entity and newly created second view doesn't show any details. Currently I'm doing that this way: In module I create two view models and register them as instances in Unity container and then I register views as types for corresponding regions. Each view subscribes to EntitySelectedEvent from EventAggregator. Module initializer publish this event after initialization and this way two views are selecting the same entity. I know this looks ugly - I tried publishing this event from one of view models but the problems is that EventAggregator in Prism doesn't support durable subscribers - this means that if the second view model didn't subscribe to event before the first view model fired it, it won't receive and event. I know this is a normal behavior of EventAggregator, but I'm looking for a solution when view models can fire events without depending on initialization order of them - that is the first model can fire event before the second model was created and the second model will receive this 'queued' event after subscribing to it. Are there any other messaging implementations for WPF/SL which do support such behavior or using a mediator (in my example it's a module itself) isn't such a bad idea after all? One big problem with mediator is that models must be created right away in initialize and they can't be registered as types in container because this leads again to missing subscribers.

• How you would you describe the Observer pattern in beginner language?

  Currently, my level of understanding is below all the coding examples on the web about the Observer Pattern. I understand it simply as being almost a subscription that updates all other events when a change is made that the delegate registers. However, I'm very unstable in my true comprehension of the benefits and uses. I've done some googling, but most are above my level of understanding. I'm trying to implement this pattern with my current homework assignment, and to truly make sense on my project need a better understanding of the pattern itself and perhaps an example to see what its use. I don't want to force this pattern into something just to submit, I need to understand the purpose and develop my methods accordingly so that it actually serves a good purpose. My text doesn't really go into it, just mentions it in one sentence. MSDN was hard for me to understand, as I'm a beginner on this, and it seems more of an advanced topic. How would you describe this Observer pattern and its uses in C# to a beginner? For an example, please keep code very simple so I can understand the purpose more than complex code snippets. I'm trying to use it effectively with some simple textbox string manipulations and using delegates for my assignment, so a pointer would help!

On the server-side the logic is handled by a custom adapter that extends ActionScriptAdapter and implements FlexSessionListener and FlexClientListener interfaces. I am asking how can I detect which "flex-client" has closed a connection when for example the user is closing the browser? (so I can clean some infos inside the database) I tried using the following: 1. • How do you jump to a particular row in a DataGridView by typing (a la Windows Explorer details view)

  I have a .NET Winforms app in C# with a DataGridView that's read-only and populated with some number of rows. I'd like to have functionality similar to Windows Explorer's (and many other applications) details view for example. I'd like the DataGridView to behave such that when it has focus if you start typing, the current row selection will jump to the row where the (string) value of cell 0 (i.e. the first column in the row) starts with the characters you typed in. For example, if I have a DataGridView with 1 column and the following rows: Bob Jane Jason John Leroy Sam If the DataGridView has focus and I hit the 'b' key on my keyboard, the selected row is now "Bob". If I quickly type in the keys 'ja', the selected row is Jane. If I quickly type in the letters 'jas', the selected row is Jane. If I hit the 'z' key, nothing is selected (since nothing starts with Z). Likewise if Jane is currently selected and I keep typing the letter 'j', the selection will cycle through to Jason, then John, then back to Jane, each time I hit the 'j' key. I've been doing some Googling (and "stackoverflowing" :-)) for awhile and cannot find any examples of this type of functionality. I have a rough idea in my head to do this via some sort of short lived timer thread, collecting the keystrokes on KeyPress events for the DataGridView, and selecting rows based on those collected keystrokes matching a Cells[0].Value.StartsWith() type of condition. But it seems like there has to be an easier way that I'm just not seeing. Any ideas would be much appreciated. Thanks!

• AS3: Array of objects parsed from XML remains with zero length

  I'm trying to parse an XML file and create an object array from its data. The data is converted to MediaAlbum classes (class of my own). The XML is parsed correctly and the object is loaded, but when I instantiate it, the Albums array is of zero length, even when the data is loaded correctly. • Jquery event to fire in ajax loaded content, IE & FF problem

  Hello, I'm trying to trigger onclick events in an ajax loaded content but it doesn't seem to work. • full duplex communication over the web w/o flash sockets

  A web application I'm helping to develop is faced with a well-known problem: we want to be able to let users know of various events and so forth that can occur at any time, essentially at random, and update their view accordingly. Essentially, we need to allow the server to push requests to individual clients, as opposed to the client asking the server. I understand that WebSockets are an effort to address the problem; however, after a bit of looking around into them, I understand that a) very few web browsers currently offer native websocket support; b) to get around this, you either use flash sockets or some sort of AJAX long-polling; c) a special websockets server must be used. Now, we want to offer our service without Flash. And any sort of servers must have some sort of load-balancing capabilities, or at least some software that can do load balancing for them. As of 2008, everyone was saying that Comet-based solutions (e.g., Bayeux) were the way to go for these sort of situations. However, the various protocols seem to have not had much work put into them since then—which leads (finally) to the question. Is Bayeux-flavored Comet still the right tool for jobs like this? If not, what is?

• Core Data + Core Animation/CALayer together??

  I am making an Cocoa app with custom interfaces. So far I have implemented one version of the app using CALayer doing the rendering, which has been great given the hierarchical structure of CALayers, and its [hitTest:] function for handling mouse events. In this early version, the model of the app are my custom classes. However, as the program grows I feel the urge of using Core Data for the model, not just for the ease of binding/undo management, but also want to try out the new technology. My method so far: In Core Data: creating a Block entity, with attributes xPos, yPos, width, height...etc. Then, creating a BlockView : CALayer class for drawing, which uses methods such as self.position.x = [self valueForKey:@"xPos"] to fetch the values from the model. In this case, every BlockView object has to also keep a local copy of xPos, which is NOT good. Do any of you guys have better suggestions? Edit: This app is a information visualization tool. So the positions, dimensions of the blocks are important, and should be persisted for later analysis.
