  • Export local security policy

    I am trying to export the local security policy on a number of servers into a template file which I can then import into a group policy. I cna do this manually without issue but I have been unsuccesssful in finding a way to script this process. Is is possible to script the creation of the export of local security policy?

  • Unable to uninstall SQL 2008 Instance(s)

    Windows 2008 R2 High Availability Cluster and we were just going through the first phase of configuration. Somebody accidentally loaded the instance incorrectly, so I was hopping to uninstall and reinstall. But when I approach the uninstall process, it fails with the following msg: Object reference not set to an instance of an object SQL instance not yet clustered (FYI) Any idea?

  • Off-the-shelf solutions for migrating data from azure blobstorage to rackspace cloud files

    I have large amounts of data (500+ GB) stored in azure blob storage that I need to transfer to rackspace cloud files. I know it is possible to perform such a migration using the SDKs from both services, but is there a free, standard, 1-step process for doing this? I've built a POC utility but would like to avoid having to optimize it to perform the transfer within a reasonable amount of time. Thanks.

  • script to su with password in script without root

    I have scripted a process that involves updating symbolic links on files located on 3 different machines. On those machines exists 4 users each, who each need to have these links updated. Using su, is there a way to pass the password argument to the command on a single line, without invoking sudo as the users will not have admin rights? My only alternative solution at this point is to ssh around, however I would like to be able to do this without hardcoding in a bunch of hosts/ips.

    I'm trying to learn PHP and I'm just in the process of installing apache,msql and PHP. I'm on a mac osx 10.7.2 Processor 2.26 GHz intel core 2 due I downloaded: mysql-5.5.18-osx10.6-x86_64.dmg I'm now at the point of setting the root password and when I type in: sudo: mysql_secure_installation it asks me to enter my password, then it says: sudo: mysql_secure_installation: command not found Any help would be appreciated.   • Forcibly Uninstalling Eclipse 3.5 Plugins

    How do you forcibly uninstall Eclipse 3.5 plugins without using Eclipse? I made the mistake of installing Google's Android SDK, and now when I try to check for updates via the "Check For Updates" or "Install New Software", some Android process runs, consumes all my CPU, takes up 3 gigs of memory, and crashes Eclipse. I can't even get to the uninstall dialog before Google's plugin kills everything.

I am using Centos with 512 MB Guarantee Memory and 1 GB burst Memory, I am running 3 wordpress sites from it, where all are having daily traffic of 30-100 visitors each, After every 2-3 days I need to restart my VPS because the resources are taking high usage of memory, I tried running top command and it shows Apache as high, But is it possible to check which website is taking load?   • Is it okay to use a SSH key with an empty passphrase?

    When I first learned how to make ssh keys, the tutorials I read all stated that a good passphrase should be chosen. But recently, when setting up a daemon process that needs to ssh to another machine, I discovered that the only way (it seems) to have a key that I don't need to auth at every boot is to create a key with an empty passphrase. So my question is, what are the concerns with using a key with no passphrase?

  • Update Windows Defender schedule via command line or gpo?

    I'm looking to find a way to update some Windows Defender settings via command line, gpo etc. From my research it looks like windows defender creates a hidden scheduled task named 'MP Scheduled Scan', but modifying this task does not seem to make a difference as to what shows up in the Windows Defender UI. I have also done some process monitoring to see what data Windows Defender uses and I can see that it reads/writes to the 'HKLM:\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows Defender\Scan' ScheduleDay key, but if I attempt to modify this key, I get an "Error Writing the new values contents" error message.

  • High CPU usage - symptoms moving from server to server after bouncing

    First off, I apologize if I didn't include enough information to properly troubleshoot this issue. This sort of thing isn't my specialty, so it is a learning process. If there's something I need to provide, please let me know and I'll be happy to do what I can. The images associated with my question are at the bottom of this post. We are dealing with a clustered environment of four WebLogic 9.2 Java application servers. The cluster utilizes a round-robin load algorithm. Other details include: Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.5.0_12-b04) BEA JRockit(R) (build R27.4.0-90_CR352234-91983-1.5.0_12-20071115-1605-linux-x86_64, compiled mode) Basically, I started looking at the servers' performance because our customers are seeing lots of lag at various times of the day. Our servers should easily handle the loads they are given, so it's not clear what's going on. Using HP Performance Manager, I generated some graphs that indicate that the CPU usage is completely out of whack. It seems that, at any given point, one or more of the servers has a CPU utilization of over 50%. I know this isn't particularly high, but I would say it is a red flag based on the CPU utilization of the other servers in the WebLogic cluster. Interesting things to note: The high CPU utilization was occurring only on server02 for several weeks. The server crashed (extremely rare; we are not sure if it's related to this) and upon starting it back up, the CPU utilization was normal on all 4 servers. We restarted all 4 managed servers and the application server (on server01) yesterday, on 2/28. As you can see, server03 and server04 picked up the behavior that was seen on server02 before. The CPU utilization is a Java process owned by the application user (appown). The number of transactions is consistent across all servers. It doesn't seem like any one server is actually handling more than another. If anyone has any ideas or can at least point me in the right direction, that would be great.   • Release/Renew IP Address via Terminal in OS X

    I am looking to release and renew my IP address in OS X 10.4 using Terminal. Essentially, I need the OS X equivalent of Windows: C:\ ipconfig /release C:\ ipconfig /renew However, I need the interface to remain active during this process, so using ifconfig down/up will not work. I believe I can clear the IP with ifconfig delete but I'm not sure how to get the dhcp client to reassign the address. An article from 2002 suggests using set dhcp but Apple's ifconfig man page does not include this information.

  • Launch Nginx on startup

    I was able to install and run nginx, and passenger but i'm not able to have nginx come up whenever i reboot my server. To start the nginx process i just type in sudo /opt/nginx/sbin/nginx. From my understanding anything i put in /etc/init.d with ubuntu hardy will be execute. Does anyone know the command that will mimic this command line call? sudo /opt/nginx/sbin/nginx

I have an X: drive mapped to \\some\network\location I have a program myapp.exe that expects the X: drive to be mapped to C:\local\path I need to keep my X: drive mapped to \\some\network\location throughout the process I would like to be able to run the following batch file and not have it affect the current environment: subst X: C:\local\path myapp.exe

  • Log ports opened by an application

    I'm searching for something like: tcpdump -p PID # But tcpdump does not know the PID or lsof -i --continuous # But lsof just runs and exits, no «live logging» to log which connections an application opens. In my case, I want to find out to which port git connects when committing. This happens in a fraction of a second, so I cannot use lsof. If there is a lot of traffic, filtering by PID or process name would be useful.

  • Best way to segment traffic, Vlan or subnet

    We have a medium sized network of around 200 nodes and are currently in the process of replacing old daisy chained switches with stack-able or chassis style switches. Right now our network is broken up via subnet; production, management, IP, etc each on a separate subnet. Does anyone have an opinion on whether creating Vlan's instead of subnets would be more beneficial? Our general goal is to prevent bottlenecks, separate traffic for security, and to manage traffic with more ease.

  • Finding mail with Lotus Notes 7

    I did some reorganisation of my mail in Lotus Notes 7 this mornign, and seem to have lost some in the process. Not knowing Notes very well, I have two questions: if I selected some mail in the Inbox using the check-column, and dragged that mail into a folder, then selected some more mail in the Inbox, and hit the Del key, will the group of emails that were dragged into the other folder be deleted too, because I didn't unselect them? is there a way to search in all folders, rather than just the current folder?

  • Why won't my Windows 8 Command line update its path

    I needed to add a new entry to my PATH variable. This is a common activity for me in my job, but I've recently started using Windows 8. I assumed the process would be similar to Windows 7, Vista, XP... Here's my sequence of events: Open System properties (Start- [type "Control Panel"] - Control Panel\System and Security\System - Advanced system settings - Environment Variables) Add the new path to beginning of my USER PATH variable (C:\dev\Java\apache-ant-1.8.4\bin;) Opened a command prompt (Start - [type "command prompt" enter] - [type "path" enter] My new path entry is not available (see attached image and vide). I Duplicated the exact same process on a Windows 7 machine and it worked. EDIT Windows 8 Environment Variables and Command Prompt video EDIT This is definitely not the behavior of Windows 7. Watch this video to see the behavior I expect working in Windows 7. http://youtu.be/95JXY5X0fII EDIT 5/31/2013 So, after much frustration, I wrote a small C# app to test the WM_SETTINGCHANGE event. This code receives the event in both Windows 7 and Windows 8. However, in Windows 8 on my system, I do not get the correct path; but, I do in Windows 7. This could not be reproduced in other Windows 8 systems. However, is this a Windows 8 bug?
