• Building a website, want to use java

  I'd like to make a simple-ish website that is essentially a small game. Key strokes are to be processed and sent to a server (already acquired and should support SQL and JSP, I believe) which then translate to a location and written to the DB. SQL queries are to be used to retrieve these locations and written to other clients connected to the website. Their page is to be updated with these locations. I have working knowledge of Java, jQuery/Ajax, SQL and JavaScript but I'm unfamiliar with JSP and how everything hooks up. I'm aware of the MVC paradigm as well. For my little game idea, would these technologies work? Am I over thinking this and can make it much easier to implement? What might be a good tutorial or example to study?

• Error calling webservice from JQuery

  I have a strange problem when I'm trying to call a simple webservice method from Jquery. Locally it works fine, but on my test-server it does not. The jquery request looks like this (only showing the actual request and not the rest of the method): $.ajax({ type: "POST", url: "/Service/Service.asmx/AddTab", data: "tab=" + element.innerHTML, success: function(msg) { alert('success'); } }); When I run this locally from the test-server it works fine, which has me wondering if it could be some setting that I've missed in the IIS. If I navigate to the .asmx file and click the AddTab method I get a list of SOAP 1.1 and SOAP 1.2 XML, but not the HTTP POST request.   My development team is considering implementing an eCommerce site using end-to-end SSL -- that is, every page on the site is accessed via an https:// URL -- rather than the more traditional "mixed mode" where most pages are accessed via http:// and only "secure" pages such as login and credit card entry are redirected to https://. Pros of doing such a "pure SSL" approach include avoidance of some session-hijacking attacks such as Firesheep; cons include performance considerations. My question is: Is anyone aware of a list of eCommerce websites (especially USA-based sites), or even specific websites, that use this end-to-end SSL approach? I'm especially interested in "regular" eCommerce sites rather than banks or other "financial" sites.

• Installing Bugzilla on Ubuntu 9.04 and Plesk

  Hey guys. I'm trying to install the latest Bugzilla version on my ubuntu server. (Want to use a subdomain like bugs.domain.com) I already installed all necessary perl modules and check_modules.pl doesn't show any errors. But when I'm running the testserver.pl script I get the following: TEST-OK Webserver is running under group id in $webservergroup TEST-FAILED Fetch of images/padlock.png failed I'm also not able to visit ANY file within the bugzilla folder from the browser. I'm always getting a 404 error. The bugzilla folder and all containing files are set to apache as the owner. I tried to enter the apache configuration form the installation guide in the http.include file of the domain and in the vhosts.conf file of the subdomain as well. I don't know what to do... Playing with plesks' suexecgroup doesn't bring any solution... I hope you can help me! Thanks in advance!

  Hello, I am working on a Core Data app, and have populated the sqlite file in the iPhone Simulator with all of the fixtures/data that I use to test the app. I would like to use that sqlite file as a standardized set of testing data. The devices that I test the app on all have different data sets, and I would like to standardize on the one in the simulator. Is there a way in XCode (3 or 4) to add a step to the build/install process that will copy the sqlite file from the iPhone Simulator and install it over the file on the phone (if one exists)?   I recently stumbled over buildbot and wanted to give it a try. My problem is that I have to run it under Windows because we don't use Linux on workstations or servers in my company. I've already tried different installations: python 2.6, Twisted-9.0.0-py2.6, buildbot 0.7.12 python 2.6, pywin32-214-py2.6, Twisted-9.0.0-py2.6, buildbot 0.7.12 python 2.4, pywin32-214-py2.4, Twisted-9.0.0-py2.4, buildbot 0.7.12 and tried to run it in a Windows XP VM. In all installations I ran the buildbot test suite and got several errors and the buildbot documentation sais that no test should fail. Does anybody here have experience with buildbot under Windows? Is it worth the pain or do I have to use Linux?

• Installing xampp on system that already have mysql

  I'm rather new to PHP and xampp. I have a computer that has installed MySQL server and MySQL workbench as I was working with Java and NetBeans. Now I want to use my computer for developing PHP and other web stuff too. I installed xampp successfully. But when I'm trying to access phpMyAdmin, it gives me an error saying mysql server rejected its connection Actually I tried stopping my current MySQL service and installing it again. However xampp have a its own mysql server in its installation path too. I tried configuring config.inc.php to use my existing installation of MySQL which is on a separate path. But I failed. Can anyone please instruct me how to configure this xampp to use my existing MySQL server to do everything and ignore the installed one with itself? I don't want two MySQL services to run on my system and clash in future. I'll be glad if anyone can explain to me what is best to use when you're developing Java, PHP, C and all the stuff on the same machine. P.S.: I have been given a password for my existing MySQL sever (user = root) as we do it usually when installing MySQL alone.

  Wrote a Truck show Contest voting app, financial etc using sqlite. decided to write backup app for show day using ce 3.5. Created db moved to data directory, created tables configured dgridviews all is well. Entered some test data started management studio 08 ran select query against table and got null returns. Started app from vs studio and found that test data is gone. Re entered data ran query in MS data gone again. If I use VS Studio can start and enter data, close app restart and data is still there, seems only when using outside tool on select query data deletes. I don't know ce that well but this cannot be right. select * from votes = delete * from votes??????????????

  Hello, I'm trying to save blob data from a SQLite database (Safari cache: Cache.db) to a file, but for some reason sqlite won't read the whole blob. I eventually would like to do this in ruby, but for now something that works directly in sqlite command prompt is fine. Also, I've read all of the entries that talk about this here on stackoverflow, but most of them only discuss the performance of saving images in blobs and the one entry that does show to save blobs to file is in C# which does not help me.   Hi all, I'm trying to use the StoreKit API in OS3.0 for the iphone to do in app purchase. However, I'm getting the following error when trying to purchase something in the SANDBOX ENVIRONMENT. The item you tried to buy is no longer available [Environment: Sandbox] Here's the code I use to do the payments: SKPayment* payment = [SKPayment paymentWithProductIdentifier:model.productId]; [[SKPaymentQueue defaultQueue] addPayment:payment]; I've also queried storekit for the list of available products and that seems to work just fine returning the same product identifiers that I'm now using to purchase the item. I have all the products setup in iTunes Connect and created a test user. Before debugging the app I signed out of the store in the settings menu and entered my test account and password when debugging my own app. What could be going on here?

• Automated testing of a website for IE7 javascript errors?

  This week I decided to add a new element to a javascript array by copying a similar one from a previous line; unfortunately I forgot to remove the comma so the end result was something like var a = [1, 2, 3,]. The code went live late Friday afternoon just before everyone left for the week-end, and it completely broke everything in Internet Explorer 7 (and lower I assume) since it's such a great browser. Since there was no one to read emails (week-end) it went unnoticed for quite a while, and I really don't want something like this to happen again (especially in my code).. This is not the first of weird IE7 problems; I was wondering if there was a way to automatically test key pages looking for javascript or css errors, or really anything that IE8 would output in its new console in development tools. If there isn't, what do you usually do? You test the website after every change with all the browsers you support? (Something I'll do from now, at least for IE, if there is no way to run automated tests)

I started out using the tutorial at: http://blog.carduner.net/2010/01/26/django-piston-and-oauth/ I added a consumer to piston's admin interface with key and secret both set to "abcd" for test purposes. The urls are successfully wired-up and the oAuth provider is called. However, running my get request token tests with tripit (python get_request_token.py "http://127.0.0.1:8000/api" abcd abcd), I receive the following error: Invalid signature. Expected signature base string: GET&http%3A%2F%2F127.0.0.1%3A8000%2Fapi%2Foauth%2Frequest_token%2F&oauth_consumer_key%3Dabcd%26oauth_nonce%3D0c0bdded5b1afb8eddf94f7ccc672658%26oauth_signature_method%3DHMAC-SHA1%26oauth_timestamp%3D1275135410%26oauth_version%3D1.0 The problem seems to lie inside the _check_signature method of Piston's oauth.py, where valid_sig = signature_method.check_signature(oauth_request, consumer, token, signature) is returning false. I can't, however, work out how to get the signature validated. Any ideas? -----Update----- If I remove the test consumer from piston's backend, the response returned is correctly set to "Invalid consumer", so this lookup appears to be working.

  I'm trying to setup github-pages on my Ubuntu laptop, and following the guide provided by Github I have to install the bundler package; giving the command ~$ gem install bundler returns me this error. ERROR: While executing gem ... (Gem::Exception) Unable to require openssl, install OpenSSL and rebuild ruby (preferred) or use non-HTTPS sources Then I have installed OpenSSL, launched the command to update software and stuff and tried again to install bundler, but the error kept showing. How can I fix this? Is there any specific command to rebuild ruby making it aware about the fact that openSSL is now installed?

• Using installshield to replace a same-versioned DLL in the GAC

  We recently put out an update of one of our apps with a "test" DLL from a third party. The third party does not update their assembly versions on the dll's, only the file versions, so multiple apps can reference different "versions" of it. However, the GAC still allows us to keep the newest version, because it also checks the file version which is always updated. What happened is we were not ready to release this DLL, but it got out there on some customer machines. I would like to put our current live version back out there, but it has an older file version (and the same assembly version) as the test DLL. We have multiple apps referencing this DLL, so I can't simply delete it and drop in the new one. Is there a way to replace the DLL in the GAC? I'm using installshield 2009. Perhaps some sort of custom action upon install?

• visual studio localhost server can't locate file

  i have a very simple web project. just one htm file with some javascript that opens a file test.xml. the xml file is in the same folder as the htm file (and it is part of the project) but when i start the page (f5 or ctrl-f5) it can't find the xml. it starts as http://localhost:50586/main.htm when i do a folder list the test.xml file is right there. opening the page directly in firefox works fine and the script can read and extract data from the xml. how can i convince the development server that the xml is indeed there?? or better still: how can i turn the development server off entirely? for my purposes simply opening the page in my browser is all i need and that should happen from within vs of course.

• How to share my wireless connection to other wireless devices

  I am aware that I can share my wired internet connection to other devices wirelessly, but what I need now is a little more complex. I am limited to one device over the wifi but would like my macbook to have internet as well. It's in another room so ethernet is not really an option. I really would like to share the wireless from my ubuntu (it's on more) to other wireless devices. After some light googling I can't find anything even remotely useful as they all involve an ethernet cable at some point. Has anyone here had any luck with anything similar? I am running 12.04 LTS just for reference and have a Belkin G wireless USB device. If anyone knows a possible procedure I can find out about the chipset etc. if needed. I understand there may be hardware limitations.
