    i've just solved the blue screen problem after "preparing your desktop" on windows 2008 server with your help (http://serverfault.com/questions/410570/server-2008-blue-screen-after-login-no-desktop) but unfortuneletly for me i did many things before that through gpedit.msc specifically to restrict user access to windows programs, control panel, regedit, msconfig ... but when i finally can log on even with administrator i cant open anything at all... and the message at title always came up.. please help me i cant open anything, regedit, mmc, any administrative tools ....

  • Old operational master still thinks it is the "one"

    Hi there, I have a domain with 3 AD servers for now i'll just call them: AD01 (Win 2008 GC, Operations master) AD02 (Win 2008 GC) AD03 (Win 2003 GC) A couple of months there was some hardware issues with AD01 so the operations master, PDC and Infrastructure Master was moved to AD02. All machines where on while this was happening. AD01 (Win 2008 GC) AD02 (Win 2008 GC, Operations master) AD03 (Win 2003 GC) AD01 was then shutdown for a month. Upon starting this machine up with replaced hardware (NIC and RAID card) i now have a weird problem. AD01 Thinks it is operations master still in AD on the local box AD02 & AD03 Thinks AD02 is operations master in AD on both boxes When running DCDIAG on AD01 i get a number of issues (listed below) When running "dcdiag /test:advertising" on AD01: Doing primary tests Testing server: Default-First-Site-Name\AD01 Starting test: Advertising Warning: DsGetDcName returned information for \\ad02.domain.local, when we were trying to reach AD01.     Hello, I have ASP.NET web service built on windows 7 in 32 bit. All dependences of this service compiled in Release mode in x64 bit. Now, I'm installed it on windows 8 64 bit and when I'm access to this service I get error "Could not load OraOps10.dll". I doesn't succeed to find any thing about this problem with oracle client in context of x32-x64 bit incompatibility in internet. Have you any idea? Thank you very much.

    After about 15 minutes, a Norton Ghost 14 backup fails with Error EBAB03F1: The specified network name is no longer available. The source computer is a P4 laptop running Windows XP SP3. The target computer is a Core2 Quad desktop running Windows Vista Ultimate 64bit. It does not help to disable Norton 360 on the source computer or Norton Antivirus 2008 on the target computer. The Event Viewer consistently shows the same two VSS-related errors after Norton Ghost starts but before it fails. It makes no difference if the VSS service is started or stopped. The VSS errors do not appear elsewhere in the event log, only after Ghost starts. The MSS event messages, however, are quite common, appearing throughout the log, and they may have nothing to do with the problem.   • Mac OS X behind OpenLDAP and Samba

    I have been battling for a week now to get my Mac (Mountain Lion) to authenticate on my home network's OpenLDAP and Samba. From several sources, like the Ubuntu community docs, and other blogs, and after a hell of a lot of trial and error and piecing things together, I have created a samba.ldif that will pass the smbldap-populate when combined with apple.ldif and I have a fully functional OpenLDAP server and a Samba PDC that uses LDAP to authenticate the OS X Machine. The problem is that when I login, the home directory is not created or pulled from the server. Any help is appreciated, because I'm banging my head against the wall at this point. By the way, I intend to create a blog on my vps just for this, and create an install script in python that people can download so no one has to go through what I've had to go through this week :) After some sleep I am going to try to login from a windows machine and report back here.     I am trying to get Apache Solr to work on Redhat6 and Tomcat6 (using these instructions), but get this error when browsing to the admin section, http://localhost:8080/solr-example/admin: HTTP Status 404 - missing core name in path type Status report message missing core name in path description The requested resource (missing core name in path) is not available. http://localhost:8080/solr-example loads fine, with a link to "Solr Admin." My setup is as follows: tomcat6: /etc/tomcat6 Solr: /app/solr/example I have a solr-example.xml in /etc/tomcat6/Catalina/localhost/, which reads: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <Context docBase="/app/solr/example/apache-solr-3.4.0.war" debug="0" crossContext="true"> <Environment name="solr/home" type="java.lang.String" value="/app/solr/example" override="true"/> </Context> I don't see anything in the logs (/var/log/tomcat6) ... only entires in catalina.out are regarding the starting and stopping of tomcat6. My questions are: 1.What else do I need to do to get "Solr Admin" to work under Tomcat? 2.Where are these "cores" supposed to be specified? I see an entry in /app/solr/example/solr/solr.xml ? <solr persistent="false"> adminPath: RequestHandler path to manage cores. If 'null' (or absent), cores will not be manageable via request handler <cores adminPath="/admin/cores" defaultCoreName="collection1"> <core name="collection1" instanceDir="." /> </cores> </solr> 3.How do I got about ensuring that logs are working correctly? I can't find logs that contain mention of the 404 above.   • Ubuntu web server 11.10 ftp/server issue

    I was wondering if I could get some help with FTP, atleast I'm pretty sure it has to do with FTP. Although it could have to do with something else, I'm not 100% sure.. Now, for fare warning, I'm no ubuntu dominator, I'm pretty newb. Anyway, I've attempted to build a webserver to to test php and what not for a site I'm building. Now everything works, the php, the sql etc. By the way, I built this in VMware, so it's virtual, over a network, so I can access stuff from anywhere. I'm in a college right now so yeah. The one problem I have is this. I go into the terminal, and do ifconfig to find my IP. I get it and go to a browser on a different machine and type that IP in. I get the "index of/" page, where I can browse the website I'm making. I can click through folders and what not. I can click on things and they open up. Now lets say I'm working on my desktop and open up an FTP and drag and drop something into there, go to the IP in the browser again and try to open it. I either get "Server error The website encountered an error while retrieving http://my_server_ip/phpinfo.php. It may be down for maintenance or configured incorrectly. Here are some suggestions: Reload this webpage later." or "Forbidden You don't have permission to access /html.html on this server." But, lets say I make it on the server itself, and try, bam, magic it works. I'm sure I set the permissions to let everyone open and view the files, but maybe I didn't? I'm not sure, and this is where I was hoping I could get some help. By the way, I followed a tutorial on changing the www folder (apache) from /var/www to home/"user"/www. I can't recall how I did that, but it's there and my ftp goes to the home/"user"/www folder. But yeah, any and all help is appreciated. Like I said, I'm really new to this, but I do enjoy attempting to make these servers and learning how they work, so it's not like making this webserver is a project for a class, It's just assisting me in testing stuff for another class and possibly other websites later on down the road.     i have a situation here, i bought a new dell xps 15z and was successful in making drive partitions through the help of this site (http://superuser.com/questions/313082/dell-xps-15-l502x-hard-drive-partition) now i have drive C with 100.55gb and a new volume with 578.45gb im planning to use EaseUS again to undo this and resize my drive C but im scared i might cause damage to my drive, is there a proper way to undo this and transfer the remaining 78.45gb from the new volume back to my drive C again? please help

    I have recently some issues with people using my email server. They have problems with synchronizing folders on outlook, and I can't figure out what to do. I found somewhere that I could extend a setting for imap connections: mail_max_userip_connections = 20 which didn't really help, I was thinking about extending timeout of connection or something, but really can find anything like that.     how can I fix broken IIS on Windows 7 ? Deinstalling it via "Windows Features" doesn't help. Apparently it doesn't uninstall IIS completely so on my subsequent attempts to install it installer hangs and I can see in Process Explorer that it keeps trying to launch svchost.exe -iis for 10 mins and then gives me error message. Reinstalling whole Windows with all apps would take me another 3 days :/ Please help.

    Some manipulation with SQL Server require re-starting SQL Server after that. If we restart operation system, does this always mean that we restart SQL Server also (it seems evident that it is so, but just in case I ask to be sure)? Or there could be situation when we should do it explicitely for example by context menu choosing "Restart" in SQL Server Configuration Manager? I.e. could it be necessary for something to restart SQL Server while OS is working?

    I recently installed OpenSuse11.1 and tried configuring mysql with it however after installation I was not even able to start it off I got the following error ERROR 2002 (HY000): Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock' (2) As suggested in one of the forums I enabled the skip-networking option in /etc/my.cnf which did not help I also tried binding it to the address using bind-address = 127.0.0.1 in the same /etc/my.cnf Please help me what to do......
