• ASP.Net MVC Toggling IsAjaxRequest property based on file upload?

  I have a form all setup to upload a file and that is working fine. However the way my form is submitted is through AJAX. The button that submits is still a type="submit" in case JS is off. When I save my form the controller determines whether the IsAjaxRequest is true and if so returns some JSON otherwise it does a RedirectToAction. When I don't specify a filepath in my input type="file" it considers IsAjaxRequest as true. If there is a filepath set then it thinks that IsAjaxRequest is false. How is it determining that? My other problem is that when it thinks IsAjaxRequest is false and does a RedirectToAction("Index") I don't actually get sent to the Index view. Thanks

• change Visibility of a control in ASP.NET code behind (c#)

  How do you set the visibility of a (fileupload) control from ASP.net code (I need to hide a fileupload control in a webuser control from server site, otherwise hasFIle is always false). Also setting the "Visible" property to false does not work (as is confuses the AJAX panel so the fileupload forgets that it has a file). theFileUpload.Visible = false = does not work so I want to try to set the CSS style visibility to hidden or display to none. The main problem is I want to do it from the server side (I know how I could do it on client). Is there a safe way to overwrite theFileUpload.Attributes["styles"] in case I modify other CSS styles in there, also throwing a whole CSS class at it (by moidifying the CSSClass property) seems like overkill. thanks in advance Axel

• How to combine mvc2 client side validation with other client side validation?

  I have a page using mvc2 with client side validation. The client side validation is provided by Microsoft Ajax mvc validation script. This does very well to validate all fields that are related to the model. I also have fields that are never sent to the server such as the confirm password value, and the accept agreement. For these fields i need pure client side validation. I created the javascript to do this, but am now having a hard time integrating the two validatiosn together. I was hoping that i could do something like add another error to an array, or set the page manually to not valid to make sure that the user cannot submit. Basically follow the same approach that i would with normal asp.net validation. I can't find anything like that. In all examples validators are discussed that are connected to parts of the model. What is my best approach here?

• How do i handle jcupload and no flash?

  I am using http://www.jcupload.com/ (basic) to upload files. I am considering having a friend write a more custom version or to do magic with ajax; so the solution should be able to work without that. With jcupload i include css, a script and write <div id="jcupload_content"></div> in my html and i am done. Problem is, with no flash i get an object box. Instead i would like is an iframe or a html form to upload the file. How do i do this? Should i detect flash from javascript and overload the div myself if no flash is available? How do i detect if flash is available? with jquery i know i can write something like $('#jcupload_content').innerHtml = blah; How do i handle the flash part?

• jQuery CSS Custom Flyout Menu Styling Issue

  I'm close to nailing this flyout menu I have been working on, just have a couple of current pain points. I'm trying to get left/right padding on my submenu items, as you can see I am not quite there. Also when the first submenu is displayed, I want to create a bit of a gap between the first row of list items and the child. Below is my current code and a screen shot displaying what I want. • Best way to sort MySql results based on two columns and show results using pagination?

  I want to sort results set first based on one column and then based on second column. I know how to do it on server side. And then I want to show these results with pagination feature. Question: would it be better to do it on client side via ajax in jQuery? I'm using Zend Framework. Would Zend_Paginator module be useful in this scenario? Basically I want to evaluate all the possible ways? Which one would be best and/or simplest option given I'm using jQuery and Zend Framework?

• Recording user data for heatmap with javascript

  Hi, I was wondering how sites such as crazyegg.com store user click data during a session. Obviously there is some underlying script which is storing each clicks data, but how is that data then populated into a database? It seems to me the simple solution would be to send data via AJAX but when you consider that it's almost impossible to get a cross browser page unload function setup, I'm wondering if there is perhaps some other more advanced way of getting metric data. I even saw a site which records each mouse movement and I am guessing they are definitely not sending that data to a database on each mouse move event. So, in a nutshell, what kind of technology would I need in order to monitor user activity on my site and then store this information in order to create metric data? I am not looking to recreate GA, I'm just very interested to know how this sort of thing is done. Thanks in advance

• Firefox Extension needs to get cookie from PHP redirected external page.

  I am writing a firefox extension that interacts with a JSON server interface. I receive a url to the server which then redirects to the client site that provides the cookie. I need to be able to set this cookie in the users browser without physically loading it in the browser. Is this possible through an AJAX call? I tried using a hidden iframe, however firefox does not seem to like a php redirect in the iframe. My current solution is to load the site in a second tab that never gains focus and then auto close it when the cookie is set. This is very messy and would prefer something more streamlines. Any thoughts?

• ASP MVC View Content as JSON

  I have a MVC app with quite a few Controller Actions that are called using Ajax (jQuery) and return partial views content which updates a part of the screen. But what I would rather do is return JSON something like this. return Json(new { Result = true, Message = "Item has been saved", Content = View("Partial") }); Where the HTML is just a property of the Json. What this means is I need to retrieve the HTML that is rendered by the View method. Is there any easy way to do this, a few examples I have seen are quite convoluted. Edit: This question was originally for ASP.NET MVC 1, but if version 2 makes it easier I would like to hear the answer.

  hi. dealing with php/html/javascript. i'm trying to figure out a good/best approach to allowing a user to download a file. i can have the traditional href link, that interfaces with the back end php app to download the file. however, i want to have the app display some sort of dialog/alert if the user isn't able (basedon acl/permissions) to download the file... does this have to ba an ajax thing, as i don't want to do a page refresh... thoughts/comments/pointers to code samples are appreciated. thanks. -tom

An English calendar doesn't exactly communicate excellence on a Norwegian website ;-) I have experimented with the jQuery DatePicker, their website says it can be localized, however that doesn't seem to work. I am using ASPNET.MVC, and I really want to stick to one javascript library. In this case jQuery. The ajax toolkit calendar would be acceptable, if only it too would display Norwegian names. I've seen a practice where they wrap all the elements data in XML, convert it into Base64 string and then post it to the server (via Ajax or hidden field). this way will not work if the Javascript is disabled, any how if I ignored this. is it a good practice to wrap elements into XML (or create my custom wrapper in general) and post them to server saying it will enhance the maintainability of the code or just stick with the classical way and no need to add unnecessary text in the post.

  I have a web application written in pure JavaScript (no pre-generated HTML except for the document which loads all the JS files). This app contains a login form which is created dynamically when the document.ready event event is triggered. I trick the browser into displaying the "Remember password?" dialog by posting the login form into a hidden iframe before logging in using ajax (in Firefox the password appears on the saved password list, so this part obviously works) but saved passwords never get filled in after the login screen is loaded again at a later time. The same thing happens in Firefox and Safari. Is there something I can do or some function I can call to trigger autofill? UPDATE: autofill works in Safari on initial page load, but not when user logs out and the login form is recreated without a page reload. In Firefox it never works.

  I have a page in which i can successfully use the jquery focus function using live... $(".comment_text_class").live('focus', function() { //do something... }); but when something comes into the page(ajax loading) the focus function doesn't work as should be using the live function... as suggested i used focusin function.. $(".comment_text_class").live('focusin', function() { //do something... }); but still new elements do not have the behavior... also i want to hide something using the live function but it doesn't work at all.. even for the elements in the page itself... $(".comment_button").live('hide', function(){}); is the focus and hide function implemented at all by jquery 1.4.2 or is it a bug... because the live focus was not working with jquery 1.4 version... • Jquery display image problem

  Hello, I have PHP page where users can upload photos (using Ajax & PHP script). Those uploaded photos (thumbs) are shown after upload in DIV below upload field. Then, after hitting send button I want to clone that DIV at that same page at message board, bellow other messages with or without uploaded photos. When I try to do that with: var pht = $("#photos").clone().addClass('p_pht'); and try to display sent photos bellow sent message like this: $("div#wall").append('<div class=msg>'+ message +'</div><div class=n_pht>'+ pht +'</div>'); I get Jquery error message "[object Object]" in place where the photos should be displaying. • Need help making site available externally

  I'm trying to open a hole in the firewall (ASA 5505, v8.2) to allow external access to a Web application. Via ASDM (6.3?), I've added the server as a Public Server, which creates a static NAT entry [I'm using the public IP that is assigned to 'dynamic NAT--outgoing' for the LAN, after confirming on the Cisco forums that it wouldn't bring everyone's access crashing down] and an incoming rule "any... public_ip... https... allow" but traffic is still not getting through. When I look at the log viewer, it says it's denied by access-group outside_access_in, implicit rule, which is "any any ip deny" I haven't had much experience with Cisco management. I can't see what I'm missing to allow this connection through, and I'm wondering if there's anything else special I have to add. I tried adding a rule (several variations) within that access-group to allow https to the server, but it never made a difference. Maybe I haven't found the right combination? :P I also made sure the Windows firewall is open on port 443, although I'm pretty sure the current problem is Cisco, because of the logs. :) Any ideas? If you need more information, please let me know. Thanks Edit: First of all, I had this backward. (Sorry) Traffic is being blocked by access-group "inside_access_out" which is what confused me in the first place. I guess I confused myself again in the midst of typing the question. Or do I really have to grab back to document.createElement? Note: I know that I can use just the same name for each input element and retrieve them as an array, but the above is just a basic example, in real I really need to have the name attribute changed, because it not only contains the index, but also other information such as parentindex, ordering, etc. It's been used to add/rearrange/remove (sub)menu items. Edit: this is related to this bug, The jQuery (I'm using 1.3.2) does thus not seem to create inputs that way? • HTML overlay height to cover entire visible page

  I have a web page that loads some stuff using AJAX. I want to display an overlay with a loading indicator while the loading is in progress, so that the user cannot interact with most of the page - except the menu at the top. I'm using jQuery and the jQuery BlockUI plugin to do this. I call $(element).block() and it works fine, but the overlay only extends as far down as the current content of my page. As more content is loaded and added to the page the overlay moves down with it and this looks a bit ugly. Ideally I'd like it to cover the entire visible area of the page right from the start. A simple hack for doing this would be to set a large height value for the overlay, like this: $(myElement).block({ overlayCSS: { height: '10000px' } }); ... but this creates a scrollbar! How do I avoid this and make it just the right height to cover the visible page, but not enlarge it?
