• sql exception when transferring project from usb to c:\

  I'm working on a C# windows program with Visual Studio 2008. Usually, I work from school, directly on my usb drive. But when I copy the folder on my hard drive at home, an sql exception is unhandled whenever I try to write to the database. it is unhandled at the conn.Open(); line. here's the exception unhandled Database 'L:\system\project\the_project\the_project\bin\Debug\PatientMonitoringDatabase.mdf' already exists. Choose a different database name. Cannot attach the file 'C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\My Documents\system\project\the_project\the_project\bin\Debug\PatientMonitoringDatabase.mdf' as database 'PatientMonitoringDatabase'. it's weird, because my connection string says |DataDirectory|, so it should work on any drive... here's my connection string: string connStr = "Data Source=.\\SQLEXPRESS;AttachDbFilename=|DataDirectory|\\PatientMonitoringDatabase.mdf; " + "Initial Catalog=PatientMonitoringDatabase; " + "Integrated Security=True"; what's going on here?

• Is it possible to read to a Paradox 7.x .db file in a .Net app?

  I'm trying to read a Paradox 7.x .db file in a .Net 3.5 app and I'm not being successful on that. First of all, when I'm registering the odbc, as a user or system dsn, the Microsoft Paradox ODBC Driver only display versions up to 5.x, so it looks like that it does not support Paradox version 7.x. At connectionsstrings.com I've found the connection string that is supposed to work with Paradox 7.x: Provider=MSDASQL;Persist Security Info=False;Mode=Read; Extended Properties='DSN=Paradox;DBQ=C:\mydbfolder; DefaultDir=C:\mydbfolder;DriverId=538;FIL=Paradox 7.X;MaxBufferSize=2048; PageTimeout=600;';Initial Catalog=C:\mydbfolder But when I try to test the connection using a Data Adapter I get the following exception: "ERROR [IM002] [Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Data source name not found and no default driver specified" I have specified the ODBC as a user DSN and as a System DSN as well but kept receiving the same error.   I have a SQL database that creates a record for every document uploaded by the user to the server. I want to check this table before a user uploads a document to ensure they don't upload a file with name that already exists. I know how to make the connection and make the SqlCommand to query the table for an existing record. But I don't know how to check the record count from the sqlCommand I made. Does that make sense? • tail-like view on HTML logfiles

  I'm working on an application that creates HTML log files. I'm tired of having to manually reload and scroll to the bottom in the browser to see the latest entries. A solution that does not really satisfy me is using the Firefox plugins ReloadEvery and ScrollyFox. In many situations reloading frequency and scrolling speed are just to slow. Of course I could actually use tail, but I would prefer a rendered HTML page. Do you have any suggestions? Firefox extensions are preferred, but any other tip is appreciated, too.

  I want to connect to a remote desktop connection to a specified server/username from c#. I have found: __http://www.codeproject.com/KB/cs/RemoteDesktop_CSharpNET.aspx a AxMSTSCLib dll should be referenced to the solution. I don't want to download this dll from anywhere as I'm not sure if I can trust it. However it also says: "After research on the web I found that I have to create new AxMSTSCLib and MSTSCLib DLLs. So I did" How do I "create" this new AxMSTSCLib ? Other link, doesn't use this dll but run an script instead. http://bytes.com/topic/c-sharp/answers/517024-remote-desktop-connection-c but that code throws Security Exception. So I cannot use it.

• DataSource for Tomcat web app, Spring and Hibernate

  Web app runs on Tomcat. Datasource is configured with Spring configuration, and is used by Hibernate. If we cannot use JNDI, what would you suggest to use as a DataSource? org.springframework.jdbc.datasource.DriverManagerDataSource will be ok? It's not very good, but sincerely speaking, it can be used on production server, right? Just a bit of headache with too frequent connection reopening. Also, we can use BasicDataSource from Apache. It's much better of course, but here's the question. IF WE DON'T USE JNDI, THEN: If every instance of an app will create its own copy of a DataSource, and every DataSource can have 5 open connections, what do we get? Num_of_running_apps * Num_of_max_active_connections = max active open connection on a DB for this user? Second question: from the perspective of Hibernate, is there any difference about what datasource implementation is used? Will it work with no matter what datasource perfectly and in a stable way?

DBName: SAFEMIG Command:CHECKPOINT Normally, all the session to login to this server, it should have a HostName which display our PC name, but this connection is with a dot, so not sure who is executing what process that have this connection. • RAM Cache always full

  I have 6GB RAM, i5 2.4GHZ Processor running Ubuntu 11.10. When streaming online or opening several tabs in Chromium I soon have 4GB Memory in the cache. And this makes my Notebook slow. When streaming a video, after a few minutes it really slows down and stumbles/jerks. I partitioned my HD so that I have 8GB swap. What could the problem be? How can I solve this? P.s: initially I had 4gb and recently upgraded to 6GB, but I did not experience a significant change. P.P.S: if I enter "free -g" in the terminal this is the result: total used free shared buffers cached Mem: 5 2 3 0 0 0 -/+ buffers/cache: 1 4 Swap: 8 0 8

• Hard drive and DVD drive are not being detected by the BIOS

  My hard drive and DVD drive are not being detected by the BIOS when I go in to the boot option menu by pressing F12. When I put the hard drive in a different computer it's being detected. I am assuming it's either the mother board or the BIOS. Since the HDD is not being detected I have installed Ubuntu on a flash drive, but even that has become so slow, that it takes around 5 minutes for it to boot. I want to flash the BIOS before I think of changing the motherboard. I have downloaded the updated file and it has a flash.bat and a afudos.exe. I have to run the .bat file. I downloaded the Dos in a box and went to the DOS directory where the .bat file is and tried to run it, but it gives me the error message "This program cannot run under this operating system" Any help would be appreciated

• DNS slows down on development environment

  I have a local development environment setup on my Mac. I am running an Ubuntu Web Server inside of a Virtual Box VM. I setup a host file on my Mac that points my dev site to the IP of the Ubuntu Virtual Server. Everything works good other than the fact a lot (not all) of the time it takes more than 5 seconds to load a page. I used firebug to track down where the problem is and when it's slow the DNS part of my request is taking over 5 seconds. Like I said it's not all the time. Sometimes it resolves and loads the page within milliseconds. The same page one click will be super fast and then the next time it takes over 5 seconds. It's really slowing me down and I am not sure what is causing it.

• What's the future of online gamedev. FLASH or UNITY?

  Currently, i develop for flash, not much ago i discovered unity, not yet played with it, but i have seen so far was cool. Here are my thoughts: Flash is more casual, start with cost less, in time and money. In unity you'd likely have to go more bussines-serious (real money). There are proven bussines models in flash, like adver-gaming, ads, micro-transactions. Have not seen much movement in this in Unity, too soon maybe. Flash is too heavy. By its nature(making games) Unity is way faster. Flash is 2d, doing something 3d with it turns weird and slow. Unity is natively 3d, not optimized for 2d though, it is likely feasible as well. I am overlooking the plug-in widespread, that gap will get closed over the time.

• Downloading large files hangs system

  When Im trying to download large files, i.e. 1gb or more under FireFox, first of all it starts with very big download speed and in few seconds in almost get up to max (~11 MBps). It is downloading very fast, but when downloaded size becomes near 700-800mb and more, my system almost completely hangs, so I can do nothing - I just have to wait until it finishes downloading. Also when it hangs, I can't see the download progress - it looks like it completely hangs. Sometimes, however, if the file size is near 1gb, the system comes back from hang, finishing download, but sometimes I just cant wait before system comes back and have to kill FF from top (it takes me 2 minutes to do this, because of very slow system performance). I use Firefox as primary browser. If I use wget with direct link to file - everything is fine. Speed at max, no performance decrease. So what can I do?

  I have two tables that I'm filling, 'msrun' and 'feature'. 'feature' has a foreign key pointing to the 'msrun_name' column of the 'msrun' table. Inserting in the tables works fine. But when I try to delete from the 'feature' table I get the following error: pysqlite2.dbapi2.OperationalError: foreign key mismatch From the rules of foreign keys in the manual of SQLite: - The parent table does not exist, or - The parent key columns named in the foreign key constraint do not exist, or - The parent key columns named in the foreign key constraint are not the primary key of the parent table and are not subject to a unique constraint using collating sequence specified in the CREATE TABLE, or - The child table references the primary key of the parent without specifying the primary key columns and the number of primary key columns in the parent do not match the number of child key columns. I can see nothing that I'm violating. • Windows SBS 2003 Remote Desktop Problem

  Hi, I used to remote access the SBS 2003 server through RDC and it has been working all the time but now I am unable to connect to the server. Whenever I pressed the "Connect" button on the Remote Desktop Connection dialog, a dialog with messages like "Connecting to: xx.xx.xx.xx" and "Configuring remote session..." appeared and then disappeared quickly, leaving the Remote Desktop Connection dialog there. How to fix the problem? Is the any way to reinstall the Remote Desktop on the server. Thank you.

• Catch database exception in Kohana

  I'm using Kohana 2. I would like to catch a database exception to prevent an error page when no connection to the server can be established. The error displayed is system/libraries/drivers/Database/Mysql.php [61]: mysql_connect() [function.mysql-connect]: Lost connection to MySQL server at 'reading initial communication packet', system error: 110 The database server is not reachable at all at this point. I'm doing this from a model. I tried both public function __construct() { // load database library into $this->db try { parent::__construct(); } catch (Exception $e) { die('Database error occured'); } } as well as try { $hoststatus = $this->db->query('SELECT x FROM y WHERE z;'); } catch (Exception $e) { die('Database error occured'); } ...but none of them seemed to work. • Is it a bad practice to store large files (10 MB) in a database?

  I am currently creating a web application that allows users to store and share files, 1 MB - 10 MB in size. It seems to me that storing the files in a database will significantly slow down database access. Is this a valid concern? Is it better to store the files in the file system and save the file name and path in the database? Are there any best practices related to storing files when working with a database? I am working in PHP and MySQL for this project, but is the issue the same for most environments (Ruby on Rails, PHP, .NET) and databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL).

The software/hardware environment I currently do development in is quite slow with respect to compilation times and time it takes the whole system to test. • Problem with MIB_IFTABLE & MIB_IFROW

  Hello there, Im using MIB_IFTABLE & MIB_IFROW to get the no.of bytes transmitted & received. Everything looks fine, and values are correct in case of using WIFI alone. But when i use vpn connection over wifi these values are not correct for wifi adapter, interestingly i'm getting correct values for vpn adapter. And if i see status of any of these adapters(right click and see status), all these values given by windows are correct. here are my questions. 1) is there any other way of getting no.of bytes transferred over adapter? 2) is there a way to tell whether adapter is vpn or not? (as all vpn adapters are shows as Local Area Connection) 3) If you are connected to VPN, is there a possibility of bytes getting transferred through other than this vpn adapter?(forget about split tunneling, consider very simple case) i use vs2005, win7, Im new to these protocols, thanks for any help. -calvin

• Using WebStorm for Razor Syntax MVC

  I am building a lot of client-side heavy SPA-like apps with VS2010 and MVC3/4. VS2010 Javascript/HTML/CSS editing (mostly javascript) is interminably slow and sluggish. I'd love to use something like JetBrains' WebStorm to edit my .CSHTML files (with embedded javascript, etc. because I am using RAzor to pop in URL names, etc.) WebStorm seems to have all of the things I want.. better language recognition ("intellisense") and the ability to integrate additional outside libraries into this (I'm using Kendo), etc. Is this possible? How do you get WebStorm to recognize the @"" invoked Razor language inserts? Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.
