  • Oracle SALT 11gR1

    With the 11gR1 release, SALT now supports Web services transactions (WS-TX). In a nutshell, the SALT 11gR1 Web services gateway (GWWS) now supports bi-directional transactional interoperability. What this means is that Tuxedo application services can now be invoked in global transaction context using Web services. This feature is natural to a product like Tuxedo given its history as transaction processing monitor and its significant contribution to the X/Open (now the Open Group) XA specification. We implemented Web Services Coordination (WS-COOR) and Web Services Atomic Transaction (WS-AT). We also tested and certified with WebLogic Server 11gR1 and Microsoft WCF 3.5 (.Net Framework).     How do I cache the images properly, I think asked this somewhere before, but it hasn't affected me until gameing site went out of beta. It's HTTP headers or something isn't Ok I used George's answer but frankly the performance is awful, asking the server for the image everytime (even when it doesn't download the image) creates a small delay of about 1/2 a second but because of the huge number of SE sites, the 1/2s add up. Please, please consider adding a hash of the image to the stackauth.com/sites

    Our partner was explaining to me that they are using GUID as primary key on all the tables. My immediate reaction was - why? and couple of basic doubts were: - since I can read uniqueidentifier, it does not tell me absolutely anything - if I will use my relational table, i sure will use other columns to get the information out - SQL is terrible when setting up clustered index on GUID columns (and hence performance problems) - why not use INT? it will save you space on disk, optimizer will be able...(read more)

    The Tuxedo System and Application Monitor (TSAM) 11gR1 release provides powerful new application monitoring capabilities, as well as significant improvements in ease of use. The first thing users will notice is the completely redesigned user interface in the TSAM console. Based on Oracle ADF, the console is much easier to navigate, provides a Web 2.0 style interface with dynamically updating panels, and a look and feel familiar to those that have used Oracle Enterprise Manager. Monitoring data can be viewed in both tabular and graphical form and exported to Excel for further analysis. A number of new metrics are collected and displayed in this release. Call path monitoring now displays CPU time, message size, total transport time, and client address giving even more end-to-end information about a specific Tuxedo request. As well the call path display has been completely revamped to make it much easier to see the branches of the call path. The call pattern display now provides statistics on successful vs failed calls, system and application failures, and end-to-end average elapsed time. Service monitoring now displays minimum and maximum message size, CPU usage, and client address. System server monitoring now includes monitoring the SALT gateway servers to provide detailed performance metrics about those servers. Perhaps the most significant new feature is the consolidation of alert definitions and policy management. In previous versions of TSAM, some alerts were defined and checked on the monitored systems while others were defined and checked in the console. Policy management could be performed on both the monitored node via environment variable or command, as well as from the console. Now all alert definitions and policy definitions are only made using the console. For alerts this means that regardless of where the alert is evaluated it is defined in one and only one place. Thus the plug-in alert mechanism of previous releases can now be managed using the TSAM console, making SLA alert definition much easier and cleaner. Finally there is support in TSAM for monitoring rehosted mainframe applications. The newly announced Oracle Tuxedo Application Runtime for CICS and Batch can be monitored in the TSAM console using traditional mainframe views of the application such as regions. Look for a future blog entry with more details on this as well as some entries providing a glimpse of the console. TSAM gives users a single point for monitoring the performance of all of their Tuxedo applications.

    Over on stackoverflow someone posted a link to a paper written by a Linux kernel engineer about how to use computers and RAM. He started off by explaining how RAM works (right down to the flip-flops) and then went on to discuss performance problems associated with operations on matrices (column vs row accesses), offered solutions and then dealt with some stuff MMX instructions can do.     So, am not going to tech-ed this year.I didn't get much benefit from going last year, but I did meet a lot of nice folks.I am working on my first official Silverlight project, and it's going ok.I having a few issues which I may resolve with WCF services.I am still green around the edges with this technology, but I am getting the hang of it slowly.Learning a lot about IQueryable and how to handle databases.Depending on what I am looking todo, I may use some messaging services within the app.It has been a hard study the last month. Learning SL, JQuery, More CSS and website work, code-first.Node.js, SingalRThere seems to be a lot to do to keep up with the technology.Hope to post more often, but am hammering on something new, most of the time.

A weak charge will allow a strong current to flow through. Similar to HDDs, flash memory must provide: Bit error correction Bad block management NAND and NOR memories are treated differently when it comes to managing wear In many NOR-based systems no management is used at all, since the NOR is simply used to store code, and data is stored in other devices. In this case, it would take a near-infinite amount of time for wear to become an issue since the only time the chip would see an erase/write cycle is when the code in the system is being upgraded, which rarely if ever happens over the life of a typical system.
