• Resizing Ubuntu x64 Server Partition with VirtualBox not reflected in OS

  I've already resized my virtual disk with VirtualBox, but now need to extend the partition of my Ubuntu VM itself. I thought I was on my way with GParted live CD, but after I resize the "extended" filesystem partition, and then the child "lvm2 pv" filesystem partition to fill the unallocated space, df -h still shows the original disk size after I reboot into the VM. Any tips on this? I've scoured the webs tirelessly. Should I be resizing the boot (/dev/sda1) partition instead? Should I try to convert my lvm2 to ext4 or something? I'm lost on this. Note: VirtualBox hard disk is "dynamic". Specs: VBox 4.2.18 Ubuntu 12.04.2 amd64 Gparted 0.16.2-1b-i486

• Split SQL statements

  Hello, I am writing a backend application which needs to be able to send multiple SQL commands to a MySQL server. MySQL = 5.x support multiple statements, but unfortunately we are interfacing with MySQL 4.x. I am trying to find a way (hint: regex) to split SQL statements by their semicolon, but it should ignore semicolons in single and double quotes strings. http://www.dev-explorer.com/articles/multiple-mysql-queries has a very nice regex to do that, but doesn't support double quotes. I'd be happy to hear your suggestions.

• case sensititivity with users controller on certain hosting

  We generally use two different hosting services. On one, everything works ticketyboo, as it does on my local dev servers. On the other server, however, I am having this problem: I can't access the users controller like this: http://www.example.com/users/login But I can like this: http://www.example.com/Users/login ** note the capitalised 'Users' ** If I displace the application to a sub-folder everything works fine (both upper- and lowercase). The hosting company have looked at it and can't see a problem at their end and they assure me that users is not a reserved word. You might say this isn't a problem, just use the version that works. Unfortunately it leads to problems downstream where Cake core starts generating urls itself. Anybody else seen this problem or know the solution? [This only occurs on the users controller - all others work as expected]

  Hi, So i just started trying to develop a simple webpart today for a sharepoint foundation i put on a virtual machine. I have no previous experience with sharepoint whatsoever. As i cant run a sharepoint 2010 on my local machine for dev purposes i followed advices in this thread http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/sharepoint2010programming/thread/cda807f6-4edf-4efc-8e9b-4d446356c8ae to able to actually develop something (just the registry bit). I created the simple test web part (writes out "hi"), uploaded it to virtual machine, added it with add-spsolution and install-spsolution in powershell with success. When i do get-solution through powershell on my webpart it says deployed = true. What am i missing from here to get it to actually show up somewhere in the web interface so i can add it to a page?   What happens if you use the increment operator (++) on a DateTime type in C#? For instance, if I did this: DateTime blah = new DateTime(2010, 12, 24); blah++; What does blah become? Does that increment by a tick or a day? Or is that even legal? I don't have a dev environment around, and won't for a few days, or I would just try it and find out. I was too curious to wait so I figured I'd ask the community.

• Know if a Website project is recompiling itself in the background?

  A number of team members update a central ASP.NET dev site (Website project, not a Web application type). Some kinds of changes cause a recompile/rebuild in it. The large website takes a while to recompile and we've noticed it will still seemingly serve out dynamic pages before everything is internally updated. During the site's "gestation" period, our mileage varies while hitting it. Sometimes we get a correct page, sometimes an compilation error page that will eventually be served up without a compilation error, and at other times an unexpected hybrid. Is it possible to query an ASP.NET website application to see if it's currently compiling or rebuilding itself? If so I would write a status page that the team could reference when they're getting weird behaviour, so they would know to wait.

• APC on Windows makes server terminate connection

  Hello. I have a slight problem and cannot for the life of me figure out what is happening. I am running a Linux machine on a server with APC enabled. Everything works fine. Now when I enable APC on Windows the server starts terminating the connection. You know, the "Site currently unavailable" message Firefox spits out. I tried the access logs, error logs and there is nothing there to indicate an error. How could APC influence on a server like this? BTW: I have a CMS on my local server/live server. On the live server it works great with APC. On the dev server the connection terminates. The strange thing is, simpler scripts execute just fine. The CMS is using CakePHP. Any help would be very appreciated.

The base page handler gets the current user, and creates a login/logout url appropriately.   I'm diving into iPhone development and one of the core concepts im trying to get my head around is view controllers. If you look at the GLPaint example on the apple dev site, you'll see a project that has... An app delegate class A uiwindow subclass And a uiview subclass And the uiview subclass implements all the core graphics painting logic and handles the touch events. My questions are, why is there no view controller implemented to handle that view logic? Could you use a view controller to implement that logic or does it have to be implemented in the uiview subclass? And last, when should you use a view controller to implement the view logic code?   I am writing an abstract matrix class (and some concrete subclasses) for use on very differing hardwares/architectures, etc. and I want to write a row and column type that provides a transparent reference to the rows and columns of the matrix. However, I want to tune for performance, so I'd like this class to be essentially a compiler construct. In other words, I'm willing to sacrifice some dev time to making the overhead of these classes as small as possible. I assume all (small) methods would want to be virtual? Keep the structure small? Any other suggestions?

• Looking for fast "Find in Files" program

  I currently have a directory with 98,000 individual archive transaction files. I need to search those files for user input strings and have the option to open the files as it finds them or at the end of the search. I'm using Notepad++ currently and, while functional, it's quite slow. I thought about writing my own, but I am only familiar with .NET and I'm a beginner. Also, I'm not sure how efficient that would be compared to NP++. This tool would be used again and again so the dev time would definitely be worth it if it came to that. Is there some other tool out there that's already developed that would accomplish this?

  I'm not the most disciplined dev, dont know standards and am self-taught so bear with me. I create stuff very logically and fast but not always using 'programming standards'. I have a mobile app using geolocation API. it gets thousands of places from my db and makes gmaps v3 markers for the ones around the user's current location. there is an ajax call from my JS to an aspx page that calls the database, makes a json string, and sends the json string to the javascript that then creates the google map markers. would i save time if the json string was in a flat file? im not sure if, generally speaking, accessing a sql db from an aspx page is faster than c# file i/o on a flat file with pre-rendered JSON. (of course, using the flat file, it would update everytime the db is updated)

• JQuery .get() only passing first two data parameters in url

  I have a $.get() call to a PHP page that takes 4 GET parameters. For some reason, despite giving the $.get() call all 4, it only passes the first two. When I look at the dev console in chrome, it shows the URL that gets called, and it only passes action and dbname. • Did anybody use the constream (constrea.h) lib?

  Two years ago, I used the conio.h (actually conio2.h for Dev-C++) to create a console form interface. Now I want to make the same thing, but C++ std lib does not provide the needed functions and I don't want to use the old C conio lib. I found some websites which highlights the constream lib, but I have no idea to use it on VS! I tried just copying the header file into my project, but VS show several erros.   I'm trying to port an application from using HAL to using pure udev. It is written in python and will use the gudev library, though I would love to see examples in any language. The teacher liked the program and he requested me to somehow put it online so that instead of downloading the .exe file and run it the web browser will run it automatically just like a java applet. The question is: How if possible, can I display a C++/OpenGL program in a web browser? I am thinking of moving to JOGL which is a java interpretation of OpenGL but I rather stay in C++ since I am more familiar with it. • Oracle: Difference in execution plans between databases

  Hello, I am comparing queries my development and production database. They are both Oracle 9i, but almost every single query has a completely different execution plan depending on the database. All tables/indexes are the same, but the dev database has about 1/10th the rows for each table. On production, the query execution plan it picks for most queries is different from development, and the cost is somtimes 1000x higher. Queries on production also seem to be not using the correct indexes for queries in some cases (full table access). I have ran dbms_utility.analyze schema on both databases recently as well in the hopes the CBO would figure something out. Is there some other underlying oracle configuration that could be causing this? I am a developer mostly so this kind of DBA analysis is fairly confusing at first..

Normaly you can call getName() but it's forbidden in btrace-scripts (any calls exception BTraceUtils). Is there any idea how to get String from char[].   While working on OAM OVD integration for one of my client, I have been involved in the performance test of the products wherein I encountered OAM authentication failures while talking to OVD during heavy load. OAM logs revealed the following: oracle.security.am.common.policy.common.response.ResponseException: oracle.security.am.engines.common.identity.provider.exceptions.IdentityProviderException: OAMSSA-20012: Exception in getting user attributes for user : dummy_user1, idstore MyIdentityStore with exception javax.naming.NamingException: LDAP response read timed out, timeout used:2000ms.; remaining name 'ou=people,dc=oracle,dc=com' at oracle.security.am.common.policy.common.response.IdentityValueProvider.getUserAttribute(IdentityValueProvider.java:271) ... During the authentication and authorization process, OAM complains that the LDAP repository is taking too long to return user attributes.The default value is 2 seconds as can be seen from the exception, "2000ms". While troubleshooting the issue, it was found that we can increase the ldap read timeout in oam-config.xml.  For reference, the attribute to add in the oam-config.xml file is: <Setting Name="LdapReadTimeout" Type="xsd:string">2000</Setting> However it is not recommended to increase the time out unless it is absolutely necessary and ensure that back-end directory servers are working fine. Rather I took the path of tuning OVD in the following manner: 1) Navigate to ORACLE_INSTANCE/config/OPMN/opmn folder and edit opmn.xml. Search for <data id="java-options" ………> and edit the contents of the file with the highlighted items: <category id="start-options"><data id="java-bin" value="$ORACLE_HOME/jdk/bin/java"/><data id="java-options" value="-server -Xms1024m -Xmx1024m -Dvde.soTimeoutBackend=0 -Didm.oracle.home=$ORACLE_HOME -Dcommon.components.home=$ORACLE_HOME/../oracle_common -XX:+PrintGCDetails -XX:+PrintGCDateStamps -Xloggc:/opt/bea/Middleware/asinst_1/diagnostics/logs/OVD/ovd1/ovdGClog.log -XX:+UseConcMarkSweepGC -Doracle.security.jps.config=$ORACLE_INSTANCE/config/JPS/jps-config-jse.xml"/><data id="java-classpath" value="$ORACLE_HOME/ovd/jlib/vde.jar$:$ORACLE_HOME/jdbc/lib/ojdbc6.jar"/></category></module-data><stop timeout="120"/><ping interval="60"/></process-type> When the system is busy, a ping from the Oracle Process Manager and Notification Server (OPMN) to Oracle Virtual Directory may fail. As a result, OPMN will restart Oracle Virtual Directory after 20 seconds (the default ping interval). To avoid this, consider increasing the ping interval to 60 seconds or more. 2) Navigate to ORACLE_INSTANCE/config/OVD/ovd1 folder.Open listeners.os_xml file and perform the following changes: · Search for <ldap id=”Ldap Endpoint”…….> and point the cursor to that line. · Change threads count to 200. · Change anonymous bind to Deny. · Change workQueueCapacity to 8096. Add a new parameter <useNIO> and set its value to false viz: <useNIO>false</useNio> Snippet: <ldap version="8" id="LDAP Endpoint"> ....... .......  <socketOptions><backlog>128</backlog>         <reuseAddress>false</reuseAddress>         <keepAlive>false</keepAlive>         <tcpNoDelay>true</tcpNoDelay>         <readTimeout>0</readTimeout>      </socketOptions> <useNIO>false</useNIO></ldap> Restart OVD server. • Dynamic connection for LINQ to SQL DataContext

  If for some reason you need to specify a specific connection string for a DataContext, you can of course pass the connection string when you initialise you DataContext object.  A common scenario could be a dev/test/stage/live connection string, but in my case its for either a live or archive database.   I however want the connection string to be handled by the DataContext, there are probably lots of different reasons someone would want to do this…but here are mine. I want the same connection string for all instances of DataContext, but I don’t know what it is yet! I prefer the clean code and ease of not using a constructor parameter. The refactoring of using a constructor parameter could be a nightmare.   So my approach is to create a new partial class for the DataContext and handle empty constructor in there. First from within the LINQ to SQL designer I changed the connection property to None.  This will remove the empty constructor code from the auto generated designer.cs file. Right click on the .dbml file, click View Code and a file and class is created for you! You’ll see the new class created in solutions explorer and the file will open. We are going to be playing with constructors so you need to add the inheritance from System.Data.Linq.DataContext public partial class DataClasses1DataContext : System.Data.Linq.DataContext    {    }   Add the empty constructor and I have added a property that will get my connection string, you will have whatever logic you need to decide and get the connection string you require.  In my case I will be hitting a database, but I have omitted that code. public partial class DataClasses1DataContext : System.Data.Linq.DataContext {    // Connection String Keys - stored in web.config    static string LiveConnectionStringKey = "LiveConnectionString";    static string ArchiveConnectionStringKey = "ArchiveConnectionString";      protected static string ConnectionString    {       get       {          if (DoIWantToUseTheLiveConnection) {             return global::System.Configuration.ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings[LiveConnectionStringKey].ConnectionString;          }          else {             return global::System.Configuration.ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings[ArchiveConnectionStringKey].ConnectionString;          }       }    }      public DataClasses1DataContext() :       base(ConnectionString, mappingSource)    {       OnCreated();    } }   Now when I new up my DataContext, I can just leave the constructor empty and my partial class will decide which one i need to use.
