  I am wondering , what exactly is stored in the memory when we say a particular variable pointer to be NULL. suppose I have a structure, say typdef struct MEM_LIST MEM_INSTANCE; struct MEM_LIST { char *start_addr; int size; MEM_INSTANCE *next; }; MEM_INSTANCE *front; front = (MEM_INSTANCE*)malloc(sizeof(MEM_INSTANCE*)); -1) If I make front=NULL. What will be the value which actually gets stored in the different fields of the front, say front-size ,front-start_addr. Is it 0 or something else. I have limited knowledge in this NULL thing. -2) If I do a free(front); It frees the memory which is pointed out by front. So what exactly free means here, does it make it NULL or make it all 0. -3) What can be a good strategy to deal with initialization of pointers and freeing them . Thanks in advance

• How do I make my program run with different privileges at Windows 7 startup?

  Hi, I am trying to add my program run in Windows 7 startup, but it doesn't work. My program has an embedded UAC manifest. My current way is by adding a string value at HKCU..\Run. I found a manual solution for Vista from http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/w7itprosecurity/thread/81c3c1f2-0169-493a-8f87-d300ea708ecf Click Start, right click on Computer and choose “Manage”. Click “Task Scheduler” on the left panel. Click “Create Task” on the right panel. Type a name for the task. Check “Run with highest privileges”. Click Actions tab. Click “New…”. Browse to the program in the “Program/script” box. Click OK. On desktop, right click, choose New and click “Shortcut”. In the box type: schtasks.exe /run /tn TaskName where TaskName is the name of task you put in on the basics tab and click next. Type a name for the shortcut and click Finish. Additionally, you need to run the saved scheduled task shortcut to run the program instead of running the application shortcut to ignore the IAC prompt. When startup the system will run the program via the original shortcut. Therefore you need to change the location to run the saved task. Please: Open Regedit. Find the entry of the startup item in Registry. It will be stored in one of the following branches. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run HKEY_USERS.DEFAULT\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run Double-click on the correct key, change the path to the saved scheduled task you created. Is there any free code to add item with privileges option in scheduled task? I haven't found the free one in torry.net. Thanks a lot.

One way would be put the bigger chunks in first. Typically, graph algorithms use a structure to mark certain nodes as 'visited', but this has side effects, which I'm trying to avoid.   I wrote a hashtable and it basically consists of these two structures: typedef struct dictEntry { void *key; void *value; struct dictEntry *next; } dictEntry; typedef struct dict { dictEntry **table; unsigned long size; unsigned long items; } dict; dict.table is a multidimensional array, which contains all the stored key/value pair, which again are a linked list. If half of the hashtable is full, I expand it by doubling the size and rehashing it: dict *_dictRehash(dict *d) { int i; dict *_d; dictEntry *dit; _d = dictCreate(d->size * 2); for (i = 0; i < d->size; i++) { for (dit = d->table[i]; dit != NULL; dit = dit->next) { _dictAddRaw(_d, dit); } } /* FIXME memory leak because the old dict can never be freed */ free(d); // seg fault return _d; } The function above uses the pointers from the old hash table and stores it in the newly created one. When freeing the old dict d a Segmentation Fault occurs. How am I able to free the old hashtable struct without having to allocate the memory for the key/value pairs again?

• Is displayMetrix xdpi and ydpi accurate?

  Can the xdpi and ydpi settings be relied upon to accurately represent the physical pixels in once inch of screen space? I need this to be accurate for some display code I'm writing. I realize the documention says that this is the case, but I need to know if individual handsets get this right MOST OF THE TIME. I know I can alternately use "densitiy" which will give me 120, 160, 240 steps of DPI, but an exact dpi would be much better. Thanks!

If I use PageDown or <CTRL>-D, the file will scroll but the cursor will come back to the first no-space character. There's is an option to set to keep the cursor in the same column after a such scroll ? I have the behavior with gvim on Window, vim on OpenVMS and Cygwin. Regards

The question is now where do I retrieve a new integer and how do I do it?   I'd like to export plotting symbols form R as a png graphic. But I haven't found a perfect way yet. Using png("symbol.png",width=20, height=20, bg="transparent") par(mar=c(0,0,0,0)) plot.new() symbols(1, 1, circles=0.3, bg=2, inches=FALSE, lwd=2, bty="n") dev.off() creates a little border around the symbol (I'd like it to be transparent) and the symbol isn't filling the whole space. Is there a more specific way of doing this ?
