• When Does the File Download Dialog Open? - HTML, Javascript

  Hello, I have a html page, and when I click a file link on the page, the file download dialog pops up, and this file dialog locks the page. I mean without selecting one of the choices(Open, Save, Cancel) I can't do anything on the page (which is normal). What I need is if javascript can check whether the page is locked or not. (or whether the file dialog is popped?) p.s. don't say "put an onclick event to the link", because the server may respond very slowly (like 30 seconds after clicking)

• How can I see what capybara found in a failing cucumber step?

  I started migrating from cucumber + webrat to cucumber + capybara. Now the behavior of "I should see " seems to be somewhat different. Most of these fail now, although I didn't change anything on the page. I replaced the snippet that should be found with some stuff that is on every page and for some text it works and for other text it doesn't. I can't find any pattern in what is found in the page's content and what is not. Webrat used to print what the page content is that it found, in case it did not contain the required phrase. Is there anyway to have capybara show what text it got from the page in which it tried to find the text?

  Hey Guys, i have a Problem to send a value from the DataGrid to a function- this is my function: private function browseLoc( location:String ):void { Alert.show(location,'Information'); } Now i have my DataGrid which receives Information from an XML File. Everything works fine. • Architecture for a template-building, WYSIWIG application

  I'm building a WYSIWYG designer in Ember.js. The designer will allow users to create campaigns - think MailChimp. To build a campaign, users will choose an existing template. The template will have a defined layout. The user will then be taken to the designer, where he will be able to edit the text and style, and additionally change some layout options. I've been thinking about how best to go about structuring this app, and there are a few hurdles. Specifically, the output of the campaign will be dynamic: eventually, it will be published somewhere, and when the consumers (not my users, but the people clicking on the campaign that my user created) visit the campaign, certain pieces of data will change, depending on the type of consumer viewing the campaign. That means the ultimate output of the designer will be a dynamic site. The data that is dynamic for this site - the end product - will not be manipulated by the user in the designer. However, the data that will be manipulated by the user in the designer are things like copy, styles, layout options, etc. I'll call the first set of variables server-side data, and the second client-side data. It seems, then, that the process will go something like this: I'll need to create templates for this designer that have two dynamic segments. For instance, the server-side data could be Liquid expressions, and the client-side data Handlebars expressions. When the user creates a campaign, I would compile the template on the back end using some dummy data for the server-side variables, and serve up a handlebars template to the Ember app. The user would then edit the template, and the Ember app would save all his edits to the JS variables that were powering the template. This way he'd be able to preview the template. When he saves, he'll send back the selected template, along with all the data and options he's made. When it comes time to publish, the back-end system will have to do two things: compile the template with Handlebars using the campaign data, and then compile the template with Liquid using the server-side data Is my thinking roughly accurate about this, or is there a simpler way?

• SQL join to grab data from same table via intermediate table

  Hi Could someone help me with building the following query. I have a table called Sites, and one called Site_H. The two are joined by a foreign key relationship on page_id. So the Sites table contains pages, and the Site_H table shows which pages any given page is a child of by having another foreign key relation back to the site table with a column called ParentOf. So, a page can be have another page as a parent. Other data is stored in the Site_H table such as position etc, hence why it is separated out. I would like a query that returns the details of a page along with the details of its parent page. I just cant quite think about how to structure the SQL. Thanks

• How do you access URL text following the # sign through Java?

  Using Java (.jsp or whatever) is there a way where I can send a request for this page: http://www.mystore.com/store/shelf.jsp?category=mens#page=2 and have the Java code parse the URL and see the #page=2 and respond accordingly? Basically, I'm looking for the Java code that allows me to access the characters following the hash tag. The reason I'm doing this is that I want to load subsequent pages via AJAX (on my shelf) and then allow the user to copy and paste the URL and send it to a friend. Without the ability of Java being able to read the characters following the hash tag I'm uncertain as to how I would manipulate the URL with Javascript in a way that the server would be able to also read without causing the page to re-load. I'm having trouble even figuring out how to access/see the entire URL (http://www.mystore.com/store/shelf.jsp?category=mens#page=2) from within my Java code...

• HTTPS and FormAssembly

  We are using a FormAssembly page to collect feedback - it's hosted within an IFrame on the side of our site's master page. The thing is, that some parts of our site are HTTPS - viewing and posting the form is ok in HTTPS, but the problem comes with the "thank you" page - we are using the configurable custom thank you page (configured within FormAssembly iteself). Is there are way we can send the desired response page up (perhaps via a hidden field within the posted form?) - this way we can send the HTTPS link for the HTTPS version of the form and the normal HTTP link for the HTTP form?   I'm trying to build my own MVC as a practice and learning experience. "/$page.php" ) ) { include "$page.php"; } else { header("HTTP/1.0 404 Not Found"); } } ?> My problem here is, I can't use header to send to a 404 because the headers have been send already. Should I just redirect to a 404.html or is there a better way? Feel free to critique what I have so far (it's very little). I would love suggestions and ideas. Thanks!

• C# GridView dynamically built columns with textboxes ontextchanged

  My page is a bulk order form that has many products and various size options. I've got a gridview that has a 3 static columns with labels. There are then some dynamically built columns. Each of the dynamically built columns have a textbox in them. The textbox is for quantity. Trying to either update the server with the quantity entered each time a textbox is changed (possibly ontextchanged event) or loop though each of the rows column by column and gather all the items that have a quantity and process those items and their quantities all at once (via button onclick). If I put the process that builds the GridView behind a if(!Page.IsPostBack) then the when a textchanged event fires the gridview only gets the static fields and the dynamic ones are gone. If I remove the if(!Page.IsPostBack) the process to gather and build the page is too heavy on processing and takes too long to render the page again. Some advice would be appreciated. Thanks

That is, it returns function() { return parseInt(this.gup('page')); } I was expecting a numeric value and not any code at all.

• Firefox why window.opener is defined even for a new tab

  Hi! I am porting quite old corp application from IE to Firefox. Here is my situation. User goes away from computer for a while and his session becomes expired. When user tries to access something in popup, he is being redirected to login page (in popup window). In login page onload event popup window chain is being closed and root page refreshed (in root page tab user is redirected to login page). The guy before me wrote this like this: if window.top.opener is undefined, we're not in popup. That's why I am getting non-stoppable refresh in Firefox. Why in Firefox window.opener is still defined and points to same window, even if this is a new tab, not popup? How should I correctly determine that current window is popup?

• IIS7 Overrides customErrors when setting Response.StatusCode?

  Having a weird problem here. Everybody knows that if you use web.config's customErrors section to make a custom error page, that you should set your Response.StatusCode to whatever is appropriate. For example, if I make a custom 404 page and name it 404.aspx, I could put <% Response.StatusCode = 404 % in the contents in order to make it have a true 404 status header. Follow me so far? Good. Now try to do this on IIS7. I cannot get it to work, period. If Response.StatusCode is set in the custom error page, IIS7 seems to override the custom error page completely, and shows it's own status page (if you have one configured.) Has anyone else seen this behavior and also maybe know how to work around it? It was working under IIS6, so I don't know why things changed. Update: This is not the same as the issue in http://stackoverflow.com/questions/347281/asp-net-custom-404-returning-200-ok-instead-of-404-not-found

• It's 2011 - why do I still have to use tables for email?

  This might seem like a rant, but I am curious. CSS replaced tables for layout a long time ago. But we still have to use tables for layout when creating rich emails. Why is this? Are there any other options? Are there really technical constraints that prevent CSS from working in an email. What are they? I can see how linked or embedded style sheets might be a problem, but not even inline styles work. Is this ever going to change?

• Support both Standard mode and Quirks mode? Is that possible and necessary?

  Today I was assigned a bug saying that some page elements don't work on IE8 Quirks mode at all, and I need to fix them. The point is that I believe our pages will always be rendered in Standard mode, because we specify DOCTYPE at the beginning of every page (via master page). I'd think it must be some debugging tools changed that during testing. I managed to convice QA to close it as by design, after a brief explanation to her. Now I start to think the question that whether we should have our page work on both Standard and Quirks mode. Maybe we should try to minimize the problem even if the page is not rendering in a supposed mode? Any standard or best practices on that? Thanks!

  hi! in my website when session gets timed out nd after that we click on any button or perform action it gives random error as input string not in correct format.. how do i resolve problem?? i've 500 pages in whole website...and 20 master pages...so can't check for session on each page... i wrote code in global.asax application_error method...tht if error occur and session is null than redirect to default page..it worked....but when page is in frame..it does not refresh the whole pahe..only frame redirects the page...so the panel of master page remains same..

• C# WebClient - View source question

  I'm using a C# WebClient to post login details to a page and read the all the results. The page I am trying to load includes flash (which, in the browser, translates into HTML). I'm guessing it's flash to avoid being picked up by search engines??? The flash I am interested in is just text (not an image/video) etc and when I "View Selection Source" in firefox I do actually see the text, within HTML, that I want to see. (Interestingly when I view the source for the whole page I do not see the text, within HTML, that I want to see. Could this be related?) Currently after I have posted my login details, and loaded the HTML back, I see the page which does NOT show the flash HTML (as if I had viewed source for the whole page). • Context aware breadcrumbs with php sessions - Will search engines index each variation?

  Some pages on my website appear differently depending on where the user has been, using php sessions. for example with breadcrumbs: standard crumb setup: All Books - fiction - Lord Of the Flies if the visitor has just been on the 'William Golding Page', a session will have been created to say, this visitor is broswing by author, so i would check if( $_SESSION['browsing by] == 'author' ): and the breadcrumbs (for the exact same page as before) would now be: Authors - William Golding - Lord Of the Flies to summarise: So 1 page exists for each book, but depending where the user has come from, the page will show different breadcrumbs. the questions: Can search engines create my 'browsing by' SESSION? Would they index the same page multiple times (for each variation)?

• GridView in UpdatePanel adds extra rows when sorting another grid

  Hey Everyone, I'm a seeing some weird behavior that i have never seen before. I have two grid in separate UpdatePanels. I can page and sort each without any problems. Each grid is set for 10 per page. If the first grid (13 records) is paged to the second page and then i go down to the second grid (14 records) and page to the next page and the first grid adds a bunch of empty rows to the grid so it is full to show 10. There is no data in the rows...just empty rows. Each grid does this on paging and sorting. Ive stepped through the code and the the loading of the other grids never happens so it tells my AJAX is doing something to add the 'phantom' rows to the grid. Any ideas why or ways to debug this?

• Morphing content based on window part focus

  What I'm trying to achieve is basically have a code that will morph ( move around the page ) based on the part of the window which is currently viewed. Scenario : - actual page height : 2000px - actual screen height( pc, laptop whatever ) : 800px - 1 image of 600px - 3 div's or virtual boxes ( just to prove what I want to do ) Workflow When you open the page, you'd see the first part of the page with the image loaded in the first div. What I want and need to achieve is when scrolling the page, and the focus would be on the second div ( or the image simply gets out of focus - you can't see it no more ), the image would move ( disappear from the first box ) and appear in the second one, which is currently visible. The idea might seem pretty easy but I'm not Javascript savvy. Ideally, the answer should include a way to load a Javascript instead of that image.

  Hi! I would like to create a cache for my php pages on my site. I did find too many solutions but what I want is a script which can generate an HTML page from my database ex: I have a page for categories which grabs all the categories from the DB, so the script should be able to generate an HTML page of the sort: my-categories.html. then if I choose a category I should get a my-x-category.html page and so on and so forth for other categories and sub categories. I can see that some web sites have got URLs like: wwww.the-web-site.com/the-page-ex.html even though they are dynamic. thanks a lot for help

• Loading non-RJS javascript via ajax in Rails

  I've written a rails module that generates some javascript for a google map. As the user makes changes on the webpage, I use observe_field to call back to the server to regenerate the map's javascript (without updating the whole page). I'm having trouble finding a good way to insert the new javascript into the page. I've tried <div id='my_div_1'>div1</div> <%= update_page_tag do |page| page.replace_html 'my_div_1', "<script>alert('hi');</script>" end %> but it seems that replace_html only works for non-script html. It chokes when the content includes the closing < /script tag.   I am aware of passing data between jsp in spring web flow. Is it possible to transfer data between html pages driven by spring web flow. I don't want to use the HTML5 local storage capabilities. Example: Page 1: Search box for an employee id. Page 2: Search result for the employee details. Two ways that I could think: Get the employee details in page 1 by ajax and pass the result to the page two. Pass the employee id to page 2 and get the result by ajax in onload.   I've a webpage with one text-box and one button. Click on button will show a popup for searching. On popup page,has 2 buttons, "Search" and "Close". Input the text and click Search, the result will display on a list on this popup, click on a row will close the popup and fill the value to text-box on main-page. On Destop browser, it works fine On Safari on iPad, it will open new tab instead of a popup but work fine. UIWebview in my app, on main-page, click the button, I will go to Search page, but when click Search button and close button, nothing happened, I know because 2 buttons will close the popup or the tab, but I don't know how to handle on my Webview, and also I can fill data to main-page or not?   So, there's this idea, which you already know: Define the layout of your UI by creating a tree of panels. The leaf nodes on the tree are what we used to call 'controls' way back in the day-- the things that the user interacts with, radio buttons and listboxes and such. The internal nodes are mostly concerned with layout; this kind of panel stacks its child panels vertically, that kind puts its children into a grid, etc. It's COMMON. Most of the UI-generating systems I've seen in the past twenty years are implementations of this, and the ones that aren't borrow from it. What's the word for this idea?
