I am trying to create a similar way to Cpanel password protect directory, where a pop up comes out asking the user for a username and a password, but Cpanel way is amazing but my client doesn't know anything on how to do that, so i wanted to create a pop up msgbox informing the visitor to enter a user name and a password, and i totaly confused on how to create it, and which programming language support similar to CPanel
I'm looking for a good example of reading and writing to the Windows Registry using VB6.
Yes, I know there are lots of mediocre examples. I spent an hour googling and testing. Some were incredibly complex, others had only some of the functions, and almost none of it had been vetted in any way (voted on).
Since Stack Overflow is intended to the canonical location for answers to programming questions, it seems reasonable to post it here.
Hopefully this question is allowed over here. It does not really have to do with programming per se but with the costs associated with it.
My question is:
"How much does sending/receiving XMPP
messages cost".
I can find all the information about email etc. But I could not find information about costs sending/receiving XMPP messages.
Thank you in advance. I need to get data from the serial port of a linux system and convert it to TCP/IP to send to a server. Is this difficult to do? I have some basic programming experience but not much experience with Linux. Are there any open source applications that do this?
Again thank you for any help.
Please, describe nowadays projects you took part in where C++ platform was preferred to .net where .net runtime could be installed.
Some of my friends works in SCADA area. They have to program microcontrollers with Linux Embedded and so on. So my friends have nearly no choice in programming tools. But when you had, why did you prefer C++ ?
PHP was the undisputed king of easy webapp development, until Ruby on Rails, Django, and other dynamic programming frameworks appeared. What are, in your opinion, PHP's strengths against the newcomers?
I've been tasked with providing a workshop for my co-workers to teach them Django.
They're all good programmers but they've never done any web programming.
I was thinking to just go through the Django tutorial with them, but are there things in there that wouldn't make sense to non-web programmers?
Do they need any kind of webdev background first? Any thoughts on a good way to provide the basics so that Django will make sense?
Pretty self explanatory question, glad for any answer. For me it doesn't make sense. I don't care about losing information. I just want to concatenate all my lists that inherit IRenderable somehow into a single list and then call IRenderable methods on it.
I have a feeling that this is some basic rule of programming I forgot...
<select name="select">
</select>
I want to populate the above tag with values from database.
I have written php code up to this.
while($row=mysql_fetch_array($result))
{
}
$row is fetching fetching correct values.. how to add it to the <select>
please help... Am new to programming
I don't want to take the time to learn Obj-C. I've spent 7+ years doing web application programming. Shouldn't there be a way to use the WebView and just write the whole app in javascript, pulling the files right from the resources of the project?
In method overloading, is it possible to have different return types for a overloaded method?
for example,
void foo(int x) ;
int foo(int x,int y);
double foo(String str);
in general object oriented programming, is it possible?
Will software ever be considered "antique"?
In other words, is a stack of punch cards worth anything? (Perhaps if they were made by someone special, or the program on them was some type of programming milestone?)
What about modern software?
I thought I can not override generic methods of a derived class.
http://my.safaribooksonline.com/book/programming/csharp/9780071741163/generics/ch18lev1sec13
The code in this link runs fine. The overriden method is called although the instance type of
the base class is used and not the instance of the derived type.
Now I am confused because a former question of mine Type parameter declaration must be identifier not a type
is about calling the overriding generic method with the instance of base type which did NOT work!
I am new to C++ programming, but I have experience in Java. I need guidance on how to pass objects to functions in C++.
Do I need to pass pointers, references, or non-pointer and non-reference values? I remember in Java there are no such issues since we pass just the variable that holds reference to the objects.
It would be great if you could also explain where to use each of those options.
hi expert, i'm newbie for python programming, i'm having a .py file, now what shall i do so i can create an application from .py file and it can be istall and run in any linux pc, i try to packaging it but its just create .tar file where i need python to run it, is it any to do so,

I have a basic html form that adds some data to the page using PHP. I want to make this form field a "Price" field. My html is:
<input class="bids" name="comment" id="comment" tabindex="4" />
How can I fix this field so that users can't enter random letters, dollar signs, dashes, or other weird formats. I want the output to be whole dollars. Sorry I'm a complete programming moron. :)
Pretty basic programming question, I know PHP have a function for it, but does the iPhone OS have one?
I want to check if the current indexPath is a value in an array.
PHP Example:
<?php
$indexPath = 3;
$array = array("0", "1", "2", "3", "4");
if (in_array($indexPath, $array)) {
// Do something
}
?>
Does anybody know how to do the same thing inthe iPhone OS?
I really haven't found normal example of php file where mysql transactions are being used. Can you show me simple example of that?
And one more question. I've already created a lot of programming and didn't use transaction, maybe I can put any php function or smth to header.php that if one mysql_query fails, then others too?
Thank you.
I'm a blind student currently in a system admin/shell programming class. Although ssh works fine for executing commands like ls, pwd, etc editors do not work well with my screen reader and an ssh session. I was wondering if it is possible to mount a Linux folder over ssh so it appears as a windows drive? This way I could edit any files I needed to with accessible software and not have to constantly use SCP to send files back and fourth.
What are the best practices for using Java's @Override annotation and why?
It seems like it would be overkill to mark every single overridden method with the @Override annotation. Are there certain programming situations that call for using the @Override and others that should never use the @Override?
i need some help!, i am planning to develop such LBS Mobile Application which find nearest things based on gps data from mobile.
1.what are the best free and (preferably) open source technologies for development?.
2.What programming language to use for development of such application?.
3.what are the points to be considered?
I need the general overview of the requirements for planning, I was interested in having a general understanding of the data, tools, and frameworks required to accomplish the job.
I have installed xcode 3.2 with iphone SDK. (without Mac OS 10.4 SDK). WHen i create new project i only got these options for Mac OS
-- Application
-- Framework and Library
-- Application plugin
-- System plugin
--Other
But a book named: Programming Object C 2.0. From which i am learning object C. Its showing XCode with these templates for Mac OS
--Application
--Audio Units
--Automater actions
--Bundles
--Command Line Utility
--dynamic library
--Framework
--Java
--Kernal Extensions
--Standard Apple plugin
--Static Library
--Other
I need the Command Line Utility template so that can create sample projects mentioned in book.
I know what algorithms are, but I have never consciously used or created one for any of the programming that I have done. So I'd like to get a book about the subject - I'd prefer if it was in python but that's not a strict requirement. What book about algorithms helped you most to understand, use, and create algorithms?
One book per answer so they can be voted on...
