• When to use a service in Android

  Hi everyone, I have a class that fetches data in response to button presses in the main activity. Unfortunately, I keep running into problems because this class is not an Activity or a Service. For example, without a Context I cannot translate a resource id into a string: getString(R.string.example_string); // Doesn't work Should I make this class into a Service and have the main Activity stop the class when it is closed? Should I pass the Context from the Activity into this class like this? MyClass c = new MyClass(this); Or is there some better way to handle this problem? This issue also comes up when I try to send a Toast from this class.

  Hi all, I have a Toolbarbutton <toolbarbutton context="TabMenue" id="esbTb_rss_reader" label="News" type="menu"> with a Context menue which comes up when the button is right clickt <menupopup id="TabMenue" > <menuitem label="New Tab" oncommand="esbTb_loadURLNewTab()"/> </menupopup> so this function should open the new window in a new tab function esbTb_loadURLNewTab() { window.open(ClickUrl,'name'); } I don't get it working that the new Window is showing up in a new tab it always opens a new firefox window. I tried also like described in this article to set the browser.link.open_newwindow and browser.link.open_newwindow.restriction preferences but that doesn't bringt anything. And I tried it with all Target attributes which came in my mind. So I'm grateful for any hints, tips what ever this is driving me crazy...

  I have a cmdline that I'm trying to modify to remove some of the arguments. What makes this complex is that I can have nested arguments. Say that I have this: $cmdline = "-a -xyz -a- -b -xyz -b- -a -xyz -a-" I have three different -xyz flags that are to be interpreted in two different contexts. One is the -a context and the other is the -b context. I want to remove the "a" -xyz's but leave the ones in the "b" -xyz. How can I most effectively do this in Perl?

  I am a javascript/java developer and I have been trying to figure out how the selenium webdriver automation framework uploads files from the file system. It is impossible to set a file input via javascript because it is a security violation. Yet somehow webdriver is able to do this with the following command: driver.setFileDetector(new LocalFileDetector()); WebElement upload = driver.findElement(By.id("myfile")); upload.sendKeys("/Users/sso/the/local/path/to/darkbulb.jpg"); driver.findElement(By.id("submit")).click(); So they are setting the value by sending keys to it? I don't get it. I have looked through the source code found here: http://code.google.com/p/selenium/source/checkout I am still not able to find where they do this. Edit: My question is not how to do this with selenium, but how did the selenium developers make this possible? How did they get around the security restrictions in javascript? How are they uploading the file?

  Hi! Does ini_set('session.save_path', 'custom path'); effect the session garbage cleaner? As I'm setting a custom directory for the sessions, because I've read from various php security guides, that setting a custom directory on shared hosting for sessions; can improve session security. But the problem is I've read somewhere that PHP does/handles the session garbage cleaning only when the session_save_path is the default and not modified (ie. using a custom directory)? - is this true, if so is their a solution for this?. (take into consideration I'm using shared hosting). Appreciate all help!

  Hello, I'm trying to run LVL on my app but I'm getting this error when debugging on my phone: ERROR/LicenseChecker(29924): Could not bind to service. I tried on emulator too and I'm getting the same error, so I decided investigate on LicenseChecker.java and I changed: boolean bindResult = mContext.bindService( new Intent(ILicensingService.class.getName()), this, // ServiceConnection. Context.BIND_AUTO_CREATE); to: boolean bindResult = mContext.bindService( new Intent("com.android.vending.licensing.ILicensingService"), this, // ServiceConnection. Context.BIND_AUTO_CREATE); but same problem occurs. I'm testing with SDK 8, any idea how to solve this problem? Thanks in advance

• Dictionary not deserializing

  I'm having a problem where one Dictionary in my project is either not serializing or not deserializing. After deserializing, the data I serialized is simply not in the object.   On IIS, we have disabled Anonymous authentication and enabled Windows Authentication What we need is to only allow users who are members of an Active Directory security group to access the Access Point at all. All other users should be directed to a static web page that will give them instructions on how to request access. By adding the security group to the website permissions, and removing the \Users group, we have almost achieved this. Users in the group are allowed through, those not in the group are asked for a (Windows) username and password. Instead of requesting the username and password, we want IIS to redirect them to the static page. Please advise me on how can this be done.

• Aptana Open Resource Key Binding

  The default keyboard shortcut for open resource in Eclipse is Ctrl+Shift+R. It is also the case in Aptana, but there also seems to be a conflicting key since when clicked it brings up a context menu with 2 options "Run" and "Open Resource". How to I avoid having this context menu pop up? I tried to go to the preferences and look for conflicting key-bindings but I could not find it. I am also not sure what "Run" command is actually bound (I tried searching based on the key combination, that did not seem to have worked).

• Capturing clicks even when stopPropagation has been called (ie by 3rd party code)?

  I want to detect any click that happens on a page (to close a custom context menu). I'm using jQuery and trying to do $(document).click(function(){ ...close my context menu ... }); However, I'm using some code that calls evt.stopPropagation() in the click handlers for certain elements on the page, and those clicks aren't making it up to my top-level handler. Is there any way of capturing those clicks? Can be jQuery or not jQuery, as long as it works cross-browser.

The class A has to be loaded and instantiated first. But my question is: if it's done in context of the thread T, or rather in context of some other (special) "classloader" thread?

  I'm attempting to create a small utility to watch for the creation (or modification) of a specific registry key, and to kill the process responsible for causing that registry modification. I have had success in watching the changes to the registry via a class called 'RegistryMonitor', however it does not give you any information on what process initiated the registry call, through some googling I found that a library called 'EasyHook' should be able to do what I want, but all the documentation states that its designed for a per-application hook. The program itself is a temporary security patch, until our vendors come out with an official security update. As best I can tell there isn't a way to do exactly what I want to accomplish from C#, which is the only language I can comfortable write, test and execute software in. Any help on this would be appreciated I'm considering watching the registry changes via the program I already have, then if the change is discovered (the pc is already infected) running RKill and locking down the PC to prevent the issue from getting any worse

  I am working with images of size 2 to 4MB. I want to edit image of resolution 1200x1600. performing scaling, traslation and rotation operations. I want to another images on that and saving it to photo album. My app is crashing(giving memory warning) after i successfully edit one image and save to album. I have releasing some images when i get memory warning. But still it crashes as i am working with 2 images of size 3MB each and context of size 1200x1600 and getting a image from the context at the same time. Is there any way to compress images and work with it by performing scaling, traslation and rotation operations?

  Could anyone explaine me the error 1045 during MySQL setup I ll be preciated. I'm getting this error after reinstalling. I 'm going to install on windows 7. On the last stage of installation i.e apply security settings I'm getting the following message:"The security settings could not be applied. Error Number 1045. Access denied for user 'root' @ 'loaclhost'(usinf password: NO)". I know another way how to fix it that is reinstalling of operating system, but I can't do it please help how can I solve it?. If I take out the Module.new code and if I only leave class_eval in that case also I will have a method called foo in self. What am I missing.

• Can't launch glassfish on ec2 - can't open port

  I'm trying to start glassfish on an EBS-based AMI of Ubuntu 10.04 64-bit. I have used glassfish on non-ec2 servers with no problems, but on ec2 I get this message: $ sudo -u glassfish bin/asadmin start-domain domain1 There is a process already using the admin port 4848 -- it probably is another instance of a GlassFish server. Command start-domain failed. I know that ec2 has requires that firewall rules be modified using ec2-authorize to let outside traffic thru the firewall, as I had to do to make ssh work. This still doesn't explain the port error when all I'm trying to do is start glassfish so I can try $ wget localhost:8080and make sure it's working. This is very frustrating and I'd really appreciate any help. Thanks. FINAL UPDATE: Sorry if you came here looking for answers. I never figured out what was causing the problem. I created another fresh instance, installed the same stuff, and Glassfish worked perfectly. Something obviously got boned during installation, but I have no idea what. I guess it will remain a mystery. • Remote Desktop failed logon event 4625 not logging correctly on 2008 Terminal Services server

  When I use the new remote desktop with ssl and try to log on with bad credentials it logs a 4625 event as expected. The problem is, it doesn't log the ip address, so I can't block malicious logons in our firewall.   Hi, Will I get any extra genuine added performance and RAID stability if I insert a basic RAID card into a PCI-E x1 slot? I am considering the Adaptec 1220SA - 2 port SATA , pci-express (1x) , raid 0/1. Ok it only supports two SATA drives. Purpose is to help support the eight internal hard drives (1TB each), a DVD drive and an external e-SATA connected 2TB hard drive - by dealing with two of the internal hard drives. My current configuration of eight internal 1TB Barracuda (7200.12) SATA hard drives, one external 2TB SATA Western Digital Green Drive (e-SATA) and one DVD drive can already be supported by the Intel P55 & JMicron controllers on the ASUS motherboard : the Intel P55 (controls six HDD; configured as three x RAID 1), and the JMicron (controls two HDD as one RAID 1, as well as the DVD drive and the external SATA drive via the motherboard's e-SATA port (controlled by the JMicron)). Bigger picture details : I have an ASUS motherboard designed for the LGA1156 type processor and it includes the Intel P55 Express Chipset and JMicron. I am using the Intel Core i7-870 processor, and have 8GB DDR3 (1333) memory (four x 2GB Corsair DIMMs). Enough overall power. The power supply is more than sufficicient for the system. Corsair AX850. The system will never need the full 850 watts (future : second graphics card). The RAID card would provide hardware RAID 1 for two of the eight intrnal drives. It would either reduce the load on : the Intel P55 firmware RAID support, or replace the JMicron controller's RAID 1 set. I am busy installing the above configuration using Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit as the OS. The RAID card is a last minute addition to the plan. Is it worth spending the extra R700 - R900 on the Adaptec 1220SA, or equivalent RAID card? I cannot afford to spend yet another R2000 - R3000 on a RAID card that would support many SATA2 hard drives, with a better RAID, example the RAID 5. My Issue & assumption : I am trusting that the Intel P55 chipset can properly handle six drives, configured as three * RAID 1. I am assuming that the JMicron can handle, using its RED SATA ports, one RAID-1 (two HDDs). The DVD drive connects to the JMicron optical SATA port 1 (white port 1). White port 2 is not used. The e-SATA connection is from the JMicron straight to, and through the motherboard - to an on-board (rear panel) e-SATA port. Am I being a little hopeful in only using the on-board Intel P55 and the JMicron? Is it a waste of money to install a RAID card that handles two SATA2 drives? OR Is it wisdom to take the pressure a little off the Intel P55? Obviously I am interested in data security, hence RAID 1, not RAID Zero. RAID 5 would be nice. The CPU, Intel Core i7-870 will provide the clout. Context to nine drives : I am using virtualisation with Windows 7 Ultimate. Bootable VMs. The operating system gets a mirror. Loaded apps gets a mirror. The current design data is kept in another mirror and Another mirror is back-up one and / or VM territory. Then the external 2TB drive (via e-SATA) is the next layer of data security and then finally, I use off-site data security. Thanks.
