Why internet is said to be untrusted network?

networking) is a physical or logical subnetwork that contains and
exposes an organization's external services to a larger untrusted
network, usually the Internet.
Why it says
larger untrusted network, usually the Internet.
I see it many places that internet is said to be untrusted network. Are there any reason for it?
