  • How do you detect when the mouse leaves the stage in ActionScript 2?

    - by Theo
I have the bad luck of having to downport some ActionScript 3 code to ActionScript 2 and I have a problem with detecting when the mouse leaves the stage. In ActionScript 3 there is an event called Event.MOUSE_LEAVE, which can be used to detect when the mouse leaves the stage, but there is no equivalent in ActionScript 2 as far as I can see. How would you best emulate the same functionality? Listening for mouse movement and checking the mouse coordinates against the bounds of the stage doesn't work because the mouse coordinates stop updating when the mouse leaves the stage.

  • Can I improve performance by refactoring SQL commands into C# classes?

    - by Matthew Jones
Currently, my entire website does updating from SQL parameterized queries. It works, we've had no problems with it, but it can occasionally be very slow. I was wondering if it makes sense to refactor some of these SQL commands into classes so that we would not have to hit the database so often. I understand hitting the database is generally the slowest part of any web application For example, say we have a class structure like this: Project (comprised of) Tasks (comprised of) Assignments Where Project, Task, and Assignment are classes. At certain points in the site you are only working on one project at a time, and so creating a Project class and passing it among pages (using Session, Profile, something else) might make sense. I imagine this class would have a Save() method to save value changes. Does it make sense to invest the time into doing this? Under what conditions might it be worth it?

  • Confused about NoMethodError in Ruby

    - by E L
In a simple Ruby example, I'm getting an error that does not occur in irb. name = "Joe" def say_hi "\"Hi there!\" said #{self}" end response = name.say_hi puts response This code should return, "Hi there!" said Joe. It works perfectly fine in irb. However, when I attempt to put the same code in a file and run the file, I get this error: say_hi.rb:8:in `<main>': private method `say_hi' called for "Joe":String (NoMethodError) Any suggestion about why this happens?

  • Creating an Expando object in Ruby

    - by tyndall
Is there a better way to write this Expando class? The way it is written does not work. I'm using Ruby 1.8.7 starting code quoted from https://gist.github.com/300462/3fdf51800768f2c7089a53726384350c890bc7c3 class Expando def method_missing(method_id, *arguments) if match = method_id.id2name.match(/(\w*)(\s*)(=)(\s*)(\.*)/) puts match[1].to_sym # think this was supposed to be commented self.class.class_eval{ attr_accessor match[1].to_sym } instance_variable_set("#{match[1]}", match[5]) else super.method_missing(method_id, *arguments) end end end person = Expando.new person.name = "Michael" person.surname = "Erasmus" person.age = 29

  • Help me refactor this nasty Ruby if/else statement

    - by Suborx
Hello, so I have this big method in my application for newsletter distribution. Method is for updating rayons and I need to assign a user to rayon. I have relation n:n through table colporteur_in_rayons which has attributes since_date and until_date. I am a junior programmer and I know this code is pretty dummy :) I appreciate every suggestion. def update rayon = Rayon.find(params[:id]) if rayon.update_attributes(params[:rayon]) if params[:user_id] != "" unless rayon.users.empty? unless rayon.users.last.id.eql?(params[:user_id]) rayon.colporteur_in_rayons.last.update_attributes(:until_date => Time.now) Rayon.assign_user(rayon.id,params[:user_id]) flash[:success] = "Rayon #{rayon.name} has been succesuly assigned to #{rayon.actual_user.name}." return redirect_to rayons_path end else Rayon.assign_user(rayon.id,params[:user_id]) flash[:success] = "Rayon #{rayon.name} has been successfully assigned to #{rayon.actual_user.name}." return redirect_to rayons_path end end flash[:success] = "Rayon has been successfully updated." return redirect_to rayons_path else flash[:error] = "Rayon has not been updated." return redirect_to :back end end

  • How to implement a Mutex in Python when using Gtk with PyGTK

    - by Julian
Hi, I have an application that starts several threads using gobject.timeout_add(delay, function) Now in my function I want to test and set on some variable, e.g. def function(self): if flag == True: flag = False doSomething() Now to make this threadsafe, I would have to lock the function using some mutex lock. Is this possible with Gtk? Or can I use the Python Lock objects from threading?

  • Stuck with the math in a Flash project, would parsing engine help?

    - by VideoDnd
I've been stuck with the math in a Flash project? It's a loose design pattern my director formulated. My goal is to keep the project object oriented, and get 'non Flash obstacles' off my plate. Do you recommend using parsing engines for processing math? XML values going to AS3, updating a changing acceleration formula. I don't hate math, but it just doesn't seem OOP or good project planning to have the math stuck in Flash. Your comments are welcome.

  • Treeview Slow in IE?!?!

    - by Mike
I have a treeview with around 200 records that needs to be fully expanded at all times (so no loading on demand). It is inside of an update panel with the updatemode set to conditional. There are other update panels on the page as well that are set to conditional. Depending on user actions the tree may need to be rebuilt by calling databind and updating the updatepanel. Everything works fine in firefox, longest postback about 2 seconds. With IE I have to wait up to 30 seconds sometimes and the action may have nothing to do with the tree just changing a dropdown in its own updatepanel takes forever. I have considered the size of viewstate and just raw HTML generated may be causing the delay but wouldn't that effect both browsers? Anyone have anyideas what is making it so slow in IE??? Thanks!

  • How to update only certain items in a list when using MVC?

    - by Eugen
I'm building a GUI that includes a list with quite a lot of items. I allow the user to add/delete/edit those items. Up until now my update method called in the controller implied an entire JList reset (with its obvious performance issues). Now that there are hundreds of items available, updating the entire list is not fezable any longer. Does anyone know of a tutorial or can share an example (I haven't found any to suit my needs so far) in which the JList is updated something like JList.update(startIndex, endIndex);? Thanks for taking the time to answer.

  • On Solaris, what is the difference between cut and gcut?

    - by Chris J
I recently came across this crazy script bug on one of my Solaris machines. I found that cut on Solaris skips lines from the files that it processes (or at least very large ones - 800 MB in my case). > cut -f 1 test.tsv | wc -l 457030 > gcut -f 1 test.tsv | wc -l 840571 > cut -f 1 test.tsv > temp_cut_1.txt > gcut -f 1 test.tsv > temp_gcut_1.txt > diff temp_cut_1.txt temp_gcut_1.txt | grep '[<]' | wc -l 0 My question is what the hell is going on with Solaris cut? My solution is updating my scripts to use gcut but... what the hell?

  • Examine one particular call and ignore the rest

    - by lulalala
I have a Currency class and want to update its rates. The following is the spec of an update class I plan to write: describe WebCrawlers::Currency::FeedParser do let(:gbp){ double('GBP').as_null_object } let(:usd){ double('USD').as_null_object } describe '#perform' do before do Currency.stub(:find_by_name).with('GBP').and_return( gbp ) Currency.stub(:find_by_name).with('USD').and_return( usd ) end it 'should update GBP rate' do gbp.should_receive(:update_attributes).with(rate_to_usd:0.63114) subject.perform end it 'should not update USD rate' do usd.should_not_receive(:update_attributes) subject.perform end end end and it works find if I only update GBP in my actual class: class WebCrawlers::Currency::FeedParser def perform Currency.find_by_name('GBP').update_attributes(rate_to_usd: 0.63114) end end However once I start updating other currencies like 'CAD', Rspec complains <Currency> received :find_by_name with unexpected arguments expected: ("USD") got: ("CAD") Why is this the case? Instead of NOT expecting USD, it says it is. And in the future there will be lots of currencies to update, but I don't want to test and stub each one of them. How can I resolve this issue?

  • Best way to remove from NSMutableArray while iterating?

    - by Andrew Grant
    In Cocoa, if I want to loop through an NSMutableArray and remove multiple objects that fit a certain criteria, what's the best way to do this without restarting the loop each time I remove an object? Thanks, Edit: Just to clarify - I was looking for the best way, e.g. something more elegant than manually updating the index I'm at. For example in C++ I can do; iterator it = someList.begin(); while (it != someList.end()) { if (shouldRemove(it)) it = someList.erase(it); }

  • scrolling a readonly cell in NSTableview?

    - by John Velman
I have a table that the user should not be able to edit directly (although user actions may cause changes). One column may contain a string too long for any reasonable size cell, so to see everything there, the user needs to scroll the cell (using arrow keys, for example). If I make either the column or cell not editible, I loose the ability to scroll the cell. If I make it editable, of course, I loose the ability to keep the user from changeing it. (I'm using NSArray controller and a couple of NSObject controllers to get from the model to the table view using bindings. Binding compliance via @property(copy) and @synthesize. Updating the model with setXXXX:xxx). Thanks, John Velman

  • Show NSSegmentedControl menu when segment clicked, despite having set action

    - by enchilada
My question is based on another question. Instead of repeating a bunch of stuff, I hope it's okay that I refer you to that other question instead: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1203698/show-nssegmentedcontrol-menu-when-segment-clicked-despite-having-set-action/ My question is: How would the code within [self showGearMenu] look like, i.e. how would one actually use the popUpContextMenu:withEvent:forView method to accomplish what the poster of the other question wants? I ask because it seems that the question was resolved for the poster, but he never shared with us how he actually popped up the menu :)

  • Why does Apple create it's views this way

    - by John Smith
In the hope of fixing a bug of mine from another post i would like to know why apple writes this (for it's Elements example) UIView *localContainerView = [[UIView alloc] initWithFrame:[[UIScreen mainScreen] applicationFrame]]; self.containerView = localContainerView; [localContainerView release]; instead of the simpler method: containerView = [[UIView alloc] initWithFrame:[[UIScreen mainScreen] applicationFrame]]; ?

  • The remote server returned an error: (407) Proxy Authentication Required

    - by chris
I'm getting this error when I call a web service: "The remote server returned an error: (407) Proxy Authentication Required". I get the general idea and I can get the code to work by adding myProxy.Credentials= NetworkCredential("user", "password", "domain"); or by using DefaultCredentials in code. My problem is that the call to the web service works in production without this. It seems like there is a non code solution involving Machine.config, but what is it? At the moment I can't get to the production boxes machine.config file to see what that looks like. I tried updating my machine.config as follows, but I still get the 407 error.
