  • Resgen al.exe generated resources do not work within .net library

    Hi, I am currently working on a library in .Net and I planned to make the strings that are used within the library into culture specific resource files. I made Resources.resx, Resources.en-US.resx and Resources.ja-JP.resx file. I also deleted the Resources.designer.cs file autogenerated by visual studio 2008. I am loading Resources through my custom ResourceManager object [using GetString method]. The problem that I am facing is that when I compile the library within visual studio and set the culture from the calling application, everything is working fine. But if I manually go to the directory and change a string for a culture and regenerate the satellite assembly with resgen and al.exe, the string displayed, falls back to the invariant culture.     Long winded title, short question: If one wants to develop for Windows but not have to rely on any external dependency (no runtime, thus ruling out .net), what supported, alive and fully functioning* alternatives are there? Visual Basic 6 is dead, Visual C++ is obvious and Delphi seems to be the prime choice for that, but I wonder if there are any other alternatives? *as in: Being able to use all the Windows Features like putting an icon in the Notification Area, making the Taskbar Icon flash etc.

    OK I'm completely stumped here: I have installed (and reinstalled) ASP.NET MVC2 installed several times and I still can't see the ASP.NET MVC2 project templates shown in Visual Web Developer 2008 Express. I had checked the default project directory templates and had verified that those templates are installed, for example these templates files are found C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0\Common7\IDE\VWDExpress\ProjectTemplates\CSharp\Web\1033: EmptyMvcWebApplicationProjectTemplatev2.0.cs.zip MvcWebApplicationProjectTemplatev2.0.cs.zip Any idea of tracking what's the problem and fix it?

To simplify slightly, we previous organized our code on disk like this: -EC - Main - Database - someScript1.sql - someScript2.sql - Documents - ReleaseNotes_V1.doc - Source - Common - Company.EC.Common.Biztalk.Artifacts [folder] - Company.EC.Common.BizTalk.Components [folder] - Company.EC.Common.Biztalk.Deployment [folder] - Company.EC.BookTransfer.BizTalk.sln - BookTransfer - Company.EC.BookTransfer.BizTalk.Artifacts [folder] - Company.EC.BookTransfer.BizTalk.Components [folder] - Company.EC.BookTransfer.BizTalk.Components.UnitTest [folder] - Company.EC.BookTransfer.BizTalk.Deployment [folder] - Company.EC.BookTransfer.BizTalk.sln I'm trying to decide, do I want to check in the entire c:\EC directory? Or do I want to open each solution and checkin. What are the pros and cons of each? It seems like by doing the "Add Files/Folder" option, I could check in everything at once and it would match the disk structure. It also looks like that if I check in each solution separately, that creates another working folder in my Workspace. I think if I check in by "add files/folder", I will have one workspace and that would be better. But most of the books and samples I see talk about checking in projects and solutions. P.S. I know I need to add more to my disk structure in accordance with the Branch/Merge guidelines, but that is not the question I'm asking here. Thanks, Neal Walters

There are a few version clashes. I want to upgrade all spring related libraries to say the latest one (2.6.x or above). What is the preferred way to do this? Should I declare all the deps spring-context, spring-support (and 10 other artifacts) in my pom.xml and point them to 2.6.x ? Is there any other better method ?     I created a SDF (SQL CE) database with Visual Studio 2008 (Add / New Item / Local Database). Is it possible to edit this database with SQL Server Management Studio? I tried to attach it but it only offered .mdf and attaching a .sdf file results in "failed to retrieve data for this request". If so, is it possible to create SDF files with Management Studio as well? Or are we stuck with the simple interface of the Visual Studio 2008 database manager?

    Just recently released an application to the Windows Store, and I'm wondering if it is possible to "downgrade" it to Windows Phone 7.1 - until Windows Phone 8 will arrive. The real problem is with the async stuff, I've found the "Async Targeting Pack", but it requires Visual Studio 2012; however VS2012 doesn't work with the Phone SDK 7.0, 7.1. I'm not in the mood to install old and ugly Visual Studio 2010 on my brand new Windows 8 machine :) Does anyone know a workaround?

    First off, my application currently defines anyDensity=false in the manifest file. Elsewhere in the app, I'm trying to capture and display a View's DrawingCache but I'm not able to get a clear Bitmap without scaling artifacts. The code below yields a Bitmap but it has scaling artifacts and is generally fuzzy. myView.setDrawingCacheEnabled(true); Bitmap myBitmap = Bitmap.Create(myView.getDrawingCache()); myImageView.setImageBitmap(myBitmap); As I read it, the documentation for getDrawingCache says this is to be expected and to use getDrawingCache(true). Yet, both code examples below throw NullPointer exceptions because the Bitmap returned by getDrawingCache(true) is always null. myView.setDrawingCacheEnabled(true); Bitmap myBitmap = Bitmap.Create(myView.getDrawingCache(true)); myImageView.setImageBitmap(myBitmap); OR myView.buildDrawingCache(true); Bitmap myBitmap = Bitmap.Create(myView.getDrawingCache(true)); myImageView.setImageBitmap(myBitmap); myView.destroyDrawingCache(); Does anyone know how to properly capture and render the drawingCache when anyDensity=false?
