• .NET JIT Code Cache leaking?

  We have a server component written in .Net 3.5. It runs as service on a Windows Server 2008 Standard Edition. It works great but after some time (days) we notice massive slowdowns and an increased working set. We expected some kind of memory leak and used WinDBG/SOS to analyze dumps of the process. Unfortunately the GC Heap doesn’t show any leak but we noticed that the JIT code heap has grown from 8MB after the start to more than 1GB after a few days. We don’t use any dynamic code generation techniques by our own. We use Linq2SQL which is known for dynamic code generation but we don’t know if it can cause such a problem. The main question is if there is any technique to analyze the dump and check where all this Host Code Heap blocks that are shown in the WinDBG dumps come from? [Update] In the mean time we did some more analysis and had Linq2SQL as probable suspect, especially since we do not use precompiled queries. • Custom Rails actions: I have issues every time

  Every time I go to add a custom action to a controller, I completely screw it up somehow. I'm trying to add a route "listings/buyer_listings", that will display all of my listings where someone is a buyer (rather than a seller). With the routes.rb file below, when I go to "listings/buyer_listings", I get routed instead to "users" WTF? In the past, I've had to define my routes using "map.", but this seems like a very verbose way to do something that should work with the :collection specification. You can see that I've done this with many routes as specified toward the end of the file, such as "edit_my_profile", etc. If I put the ":collection" part last my browser routes to the "show" action, which is not the correct action, and which also doesn't make sense to me why it would even do this. If I do "rake routes", my routes look correctly mapped. If I go into a Ruby console and have it recognize the url, it maps to the correct action, so what am I missing?   I'm adding a TimeEntry to a page where the user can add a row (clone) to a table. The row that is cloned is hidden (display:none). • Complex Entity Framework linked-graphs issue: how to limit change set / break the graph?

  I have an EDMX containing Sentences, and Words, say and a Sentence contains three Words, say. Appropriate FK relationships exist between the tables. I create some words: Word word1 = new Word(); Word word2 = ... I build a Sentence: Sentence x = new Sentence (word1, word2, word3); I build another Sentence: Sentence y = new Sentence (word1, word4, word5); I try to save x to the database, but EF builds a change set that includes everything, including y, word4 and word5 that aren't ready to save to the database. When SaveChanges() happens it throws an exception: Unable to determine the principal end of the ... relationship. Multiple added entities may have the same primary key. I think it does this because Word has an EntityCollection<Sentence> on it from the FK relationship between the two tables, and thus Sentence y is inextricably linked to Sentence x through word1. So I remove the Navigation Property Sentences from Word and try again. It still tries to put the entire graph into the change set. What suggestions do the Entity Framework experts have for ways to break this connection. Essentially what I want is a one-way mapping from Sentence to Word; I don't want an EntityCollection<Sentence> on Word and I don't want the object graph to get intertwined like this. Code sample: This puts two sentences into the database because Verb1 links them and EF explores the entire graph of existing objects and added objects when you do Add/SaveChanges. • Spring webflow 1.0 - Downloading a file

  I am using spring webflow 1.0. I am uploading a csv file, parsing it, and displying results before proceeding. The user has an option to download a csv file that contains the records that did not pass validation. When I click the link in a JSP to download this file, webflow invokes a form Action. The form action writes out a file via getting the output stream off the response: HttpServletResponse response = ((ServletExternalContext) context.getExternalContext()).getResponse(); I do not want to leave the jsp I'm currently on. I just want to download the file. In other words, I do not want to transition to another state. I just want to serve the dynamically rendered file.   From everything I've seen on Stack Exchange and elsewhere, I have everything set up correctly to start an IntentService when Android OS boots. Unfortunately it is not starting on boot, and I'm not getting any errors. Maybe the experts can help... So it isn't even making it to the BroadcastReceiver. I think I'm deploying the APK and testing correctly, just running Debug in Eclipse and the console says it successfully installs it to my Xoom tablet at \BatteryLogger\bin\BatteryLogger.apk. Then to test, I reboot the tablet and then look at the logs in DDMS and check the Running Services in the OS settings. Does this all sound correct, or am I missing something? Again, any help is much appreciated.

• How to import RoR project to Netbeans

  I have very simple (in fact empty ) project which i have created by rails new MyProject command from command-line. So, i want to import it to NetBeans IDE. I click "new project" - "RoR" - "from existing source", select Ruby 1.9.2 (instead of embedded JRuby) in the wizard form. After that i have got errors [see the picture below]: So.. i click OK.   Hello frens, This is not a problem, but I just want to know stored as array of Mongoid better. I have following code in my model. class Company include Mongoid::Document include Mongoid::Timestamps references_many :people, :stored_as => :array, :inverse_of => :companies end class Person include Mongoid::Document include Sunspot::Mongoid references_many :companies, :stored_as => :array, :inverse_of => :people end Now in Company object we get person_ids as a result of stored_as array and company_ids in Person object. Now initially I inserted lots of person in company and the ids in person_ids fields is huge. Now I deleted most of person from company down to 8 people. Now I don't get why person_ids fields of Company object storing all the deleted ids of person. After quite a bit of poking I have made it work, except for the fact that the properties defined in the master file is not available to the program when Main is invoked. • IF Statement has strange behavior

  I've developed a 'custom' cout, so that I can display text to console and also print it to a log file. This cout class is passed a different integer on initialization, with the integer representing the verbosity level of the message. If the current verbosity level is greater then or equal to the verbosity level of the message, the message should print. The problem is, I have messages printing even when the current verbosity level is too low. I went ahead and debugged it, expecting to find the problem. Instead, I found multiple scenarios where my if statements are not working as expected. The statement if(ilralevel_passed <= ilralevel_set) will sometimes proceed even if ilralevel_set is LESS then ilralevel_passed. You can see this behavior in the following picture (my apologizes for using Twitpic) http://twitpic.com/1xtx4g/full. Notice how ilralevel_set is equal to zero, and ilralevel_passed is equal to one. Yet, the if statement has returned true and is now moving forward to pass the line to cout. I've never seen this type of behavior before and I'm not exactly sure how to proceed debugging it. I'm not able to isolate the behavior either -- it only occurs in certain parts of my program. • Hotfixing Code running inside Web Container with Groovy

  I have a webapp running that has a bug. I know how to fix it in the sources. However I cannot redeploy the app as I would have to take it offline to do so. (At least not right now). I now want to fix the code "at runtime". Surgery on the living object, so to speak. The app is implemented in Java and is build on top of Seam. I have added a Groovy Console to the app previous to the last release. (A way to run arbitrary code at runtime) The normal way of adding behaviour to a class with Groovy would be similar to this: String.metaClass.foo= { x -> x * x } println "anything".foo(3) This code added the method foo to java.lang.String and prints 9. I can do the same thing with classes running inside my webapp container. New instances will thereafter show the same behaviour: com.my.package.SomeService.metaClass.foo= { x -> x * x } def someService = new com.my.package.SomeService() println someService.foo(3) Works as excpected. All good so far. My problem is now that the container, the web framework, Seam in this case, has already instantiated and cached the classes that I would like to manipulate (that is change their behaviour to reflect my bug fix). Ideally this code would work: com.my.package.SomeService.metaClass.foo= { x -> x * x } def x = org.jboss.seam.Component.getInstance(com.my.package.SomeService) println x.foo(3) However the instantiation of SomeService has already happened and there is no effect. Thus I need a way to make my changes "sticky". Has the groovy magic gone after my script has been run? Well, after logging out and in again, I can run this piece of code and get the expected result: def someService = new com.my.package.SomeService() println someService.foo(3) So the foo method is still around and it looks like my change has been permanent... So I guess the question that remains is how to force Seam to re-instantiate all its components and/or how to permanently make the change on all living instances...?

• compiling a program to run in DOS mode

  I write a simple program, to run in DOS mode. Everything works under emulated console in Win XP / Vista / Seven, but not in DOS. The error says: this program caonnot be run in DOS mode. I wonder is that a problem with compiler flags or something bigger. For programming i use Code::Blocks v 8.02 with such settings for compilation: -Wall -W -pedantic -pedantic-errors in Project \ Build options \ Compiler settings I've tried a clean DOS mode, booting from cd, and also setting up DOS in Virtual Machine. The same error appears. Should i turn on some more compiler flags ? Some specific 386 / 486 optimizations ? UPDATE Ok, i've downloaded, installed and configured DJGPP. Even resolved some problems with libs and includes. Still have two questions. 1) i can't compile a code, which calls _strdate and _strtime, i've double checked the includes, as MSDN says it needs time.h, but still error says: _strdate was not declared in this scope, i even tried to add std::_strdate, but then i have 4, not 2 errors sazing the same 2) the 2nd code is about gotoxy, it looks like that: #include <windows.h> void gotoxy(int x, int y) { COORD position; position.X = x; position.Y = y; SetConsoleCursorPosition(GetStdHandle(STD_OUTPUT_HANDLE), position); } error says there is no windows.h, so i've put it in place, but then there are many more errors saying some is missing from windows.h, I SUPPOSE it won't work because this functions is strictly for windows right ? is there any way to write similar gotoxy for DOS ? What I need is array of ints that can be added by "+" operator to another array (each element added to each), and compared by "==", so it could (hopefully) be used as a key in dictionary. The thing is I don't want to implement whole IList interface to my new class, but only add those two operators to existing array class. • Rails: How do I unserialize from database?

  Hello, I am currently trying to save information for an invoice/bill. On the invoice I want to show what the total price is made up of. The procedures & items, their price and the qty. So in the end I hope to get it to look like this: Consult [date] [total_price] Procedure_name [price] [qty] Procedure_name [price] [qty] Consult [date] [total_price] Procedure_name [price] [qty] etc... All this information is available through the database but i want to save the information as a separate copy. That way if the user changes the price of some procedures the invoice information is still correct. I thought i'd do this by serializing and save the data to a column (consult_data) in the Invoice table. I tried defining a variable to the consult_data attribute and then doing "variable.consult_problem" or "variable[:consult_problem]" (also tried looping) but it only throws no-method-errors back at me. How do I unserialize the data from the database and turn it back into hash that i can use? Thank you very much for any help!

Unfortunately, the string that I am trying to quote is rather messy, but I will post it here in case anyone wants to paste it into WinMerge or KDiff3, etc. I am trying to store an entire Delphi form into the database, rather than into a .DFM file. It has only one field, a TEdit edit box. What am I doing that is obviously, glaringly wrong?

• deleted gen folder, eclipse isn't generating it now :(

  I accidentally deleted my gen folder and now, predictably, my resources are all messed up. I just created a gen folder myself and tried to project clean - that didn't work. Tried right-clicking project and going to android tools fix project properties - didn't work. Tried unchecking build automatically...didn't work. cleaned, closed project, closed eclipse, restarted, etc, etc. Nothing is working and I keep seeing this error: gen already exists but is not a source folder. Convert to a source folder or rename it. However, using the Timer class I'm not sure how I would invoke the method I need on the current instance since I can't pass any parameters to the timertasks run method? Is there an easy way to do this or am I going about this the wrong way? (note: this is a console project only, no GUI) ========== code edited I've changed the code to the above following the recommendations, and it works almost as I expect however the thread still doesnt seem to end properly. I was the while loop would die and control would eventually come back to the main method. Any ideas?

• Assembly Load and loading the "sub-modules" dependencies - "cannot find the file specified"

Right now I am getting "The system cannot find the file specified" on Assemblies referenced in my so called modules. I cannot really get how to use the AssemblyResolve event... The longer version I have one application, MODULECONTROLLER, that loads separate modules. These "separate modules" are located in well-known subdirectories, like appBinDir\Modules\Module1 appBinDir\Modules\Module2 Each directory contains all the DLLs that exists in the bin-directory of those projects after a build. So the MODULECONTROLLER loads all the DLLs contained in those folders using this code: byte[] bytes = File.ReadAllBytes(dllFileFullPath); Assembly assembly = null; assembly = Assembly.Load(bytes); I am, as you can see, loading the byte[]-array (so I dont lock the DLL-files). Now, in for example MODULE1, I have a static reference called MyGreatXmlProtocol. The MyGreatXmlProtocol.dll then also exists in the directory appBinDir\Modules\Module1 and is loaded using the above code When code in the MODULE1 tries to use this MyGreatXmlProtocol, I get: Could not load file or assembly 'MyGreatXmlProtocol, Version=1.0.3797.26527, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified. So, in a post (like this one) they say that To my understanding reflection will load the main assembly and then search the GAC for the referenced assemblies, if it cannot find it there, you can then incorparate an assemblyResolve event: First; is it really needed to use the AssemblyResolve-event to make this work? Shouldnt my different MODULEs themself load their DLLs, as they are statically referenced? Second; if AssemblyResolve is the way to go - how do I use it?
