• Steps to integrate Paypal payments pro without SSL

  Hi, We are looking to integrate Paypal payments in order to "spotlight" (or feature) ads and people on our website, but we do not want to use SSL. Here's the process I would like to set up: User click on "I want my ad/profile to be spotlighted" Description page of what he's going to pay Click on payment button Redirected to paypal (can we customise the page layout?) Paypal process, during which paypal notifies us when the payment's done and ok Once done, user's redirected to a page on our website (PHP) We already own a Paypal payment pro account Any help on how to do all these steps is appreciated, although steps 1,2,3 and 6 is likely to be up to me to setup. • Scalable distributed file system for blobs like images and other documents

  Cassandra & HBase both do not efficiently support storage of blobs like images. Storing directly on HDFS stresses the Namenode because of huge number of files. Facebook uses Haystack for images and attachments storage, but this is not open source. So is Lustre a good choice for distributed blob storage? I have read that Amazon S3 is used by many, but this would cost money and personally, I would not like to rely on third party system. What are other suggestions?

• Maintaining both free and pro versions of an application

  I want to create a PRO version of my application for Android and was wondering how to structure my repository. For know I have a trunk and feature branches. I'd like to put a pro version in another branch but maybe there is a better way? For example, maybe I should create two branches - one for free version, the other for pro? Pro version will have additional features and will be ads-free, so eg. I don't want to include AdMob libraries in the pro version. Do you have any experience or suggestions as to what would be the best way to structure the repository in this case?

• Access Control Service v2

  A Resource-STS (others call it RP-STS or federation gateway) is a necessity for non-trivial federated identity scenarios. ADFS v2 does an excellent job in fulfilling that role – but (as of now) you have to run ADFS on-premise. The Azure Access Control Service is a Resource-STS in the cloud (with all the usual scalability/availability) promises. Unfortunately a lot of (the more interesting) features in ACS v1 had to be cut due to constrained time/resources. The good news is that ACS v2 is now in CTP and brings back a lot of the missing features (like WS* support) and adds some really sweet new ones (out of the box federation with Google, Facebook, LiveID – and OpenId in general). On a related note – ACS v2 works out of the box with StarterSTS – simply choose the ADFS v2 option and point the management portal to the StarterSTS WS-Federation metadata endpoint. Have fun ;)

I know this question might seem a little off topic, but blogging may become important part of travel.   Hi, I'm about to embark on a 2D gaming project. Initially, I'll be targeting iPhone and Facebook, but would like to expand the rollout to include Android (and possibly Windows Phone) in a future phase. Flash and Unity seem to be the most likely suspects, but is one better than the other? Are there pros/cons that may not be obvious at first glance? Are there frameworks that I have not considered? • Picture lens doesn't find anything

  I get Facebook results, but nothing from my computer. If I open a terminal and use 'locate' then I can find stuff, but the picture lens is empty. Note that my picture files are on an NTFS partition. I have made a link named 'Pictures' in my home folder that points to the location where the picture files are. Again, this works with the 'locate' command and it also works for the Music lens, which is also a link in my home folder. It also (kinda) works for the Video lens, though it only wants to find videos I have opened, which seems not consistent with the other lenses. (and also not very useful this way)

  I have a cookie which stores info in an array. This is for a classifieds website, and whenever users delete their 'ads' the cookie must also be removed of the ad which was deleted.   In many entertainment professions there suggestions, loose rules, or general frameworks one follows that appeal to humans in one way or another. For instance, many movies and books follow the monomyth. In video games I find many types of games that attract people in different ways. Some are addicted to facebook gem matching games. Others can't get enough of FPS games. Once in awhile, though, you find a game that seems to transcend stereotypes and appeals almost immediately to everyone that plays it. For instance, Plants Versus Zombies seems to have a very, very large demographic of players. There are other games similar in reach. I'm curious what books, blogs, etc there are that explore these game types and styles, and tries to suss out one or more popular frameworks/styles that satisfy people, while keeping them coming back for more.

  Okay, I'm sure there are a lot of us that has plenty of experience developing c++/opengl/objective C on the iPhone, java development on android, python games, etc (any client side stuff) while having little to no experience on web-based development. So what skillset should one learn in order to be able to work on web projects, say, to make a facebook clone (I kid), or maybe a startup that specializes on connecting random fashionistas with pics etc. I actualy do have some experience with C#/VB.net back-end development a while back, but as part of a team, I had a lot of support from the senior devs. Is C# considered a decent web development language?

Up to now, all I have been doing is practice coding from books and websites. I am now looking for a 'real-life' experience. Besides going to a company and getting an interview, are there any other options in which I can get paid to code? I have posted some ads on craiglists but that's about it. • How important is a single-player mode in a 2-player game?

  So say you have a 2 player game, taking Chess as an example (except it's an original game with no ready-to-go AI available). Let's say there's also a social-aspect to the meta-game, so let's say it's a Chess game on Facebook where you can challenge your friends. How important is it to have a single-player mode, knowing that an AI will need to be created (I've done minimax AI for tic tac toe, but nothing too sophisticated)? Is it important enough that it should be in the initial launch of the game? Can it wait for a future iteration (knowing that being hosted on the web means the game can be updated at any time)?

Not exactly same, has a few more features to it too but I can't really get my head around the whole freelancer.com site. I have built a social networking site from scratch which is 70% of Facebook and 20% Google+ in about 5 months with raw PHP, JS, CSS and Ajax. I dont think it will take me more than a month or something to build the whole freelancer.com from scratch. Please suggest anything that should I pay attention to. • Google Places Review - Owner or Business Name?

  I currently manage a Google Places Business, where we have received several reviews. I am wanting to respond to these reviews but I want to respond as the company, not as myself. I am the 'owner' of the page, it is through my personal gmail address. Like Facebook, when replying to comments and posts by other users on the business' wall, you reply as the actual business, not as your personal name. Is this the case with Google Places? If not, how can I get it so the reviews are posted as the company name, not my personal name?

  Im looking for the best practice to let Google know about a vast number of dynamically created content. Let's say (I mean - dream) that I'm Facebook, and I want to let Google to index all the users' posts. Sitemap.xml may be the answer for this but they are limited to 50,000 URLs in each site map. I know that I can create 500 sitemaps and create a sitemap for sitemaps, but they are also limited, 25,000,000 URLS sounds quite enough at the moment, but could cause problems in the future. I.E - stackoverflow already has 3 Million posts, probably sitemap is not the solution for them. Creating a page with paging, and links to all the dynamic data. i guess this is what stackoverflow did by creating this page here: http://stackoverflow.com/questions So I think that Option 2 is the answer, but it seems to me that sitemaps might have some added value. So what should i do?
