• R webscraping: interrogating for date and importance

  I am able to webscrape a table from a webpage containing news library(XML) webpage <- "http://www.tradingeconomics.com/calendar" tables <- readHTMLTable(webpage ) n.rows <- unlist(lapply(tables, function(t) dim(t)[1])) dfcal <- as.data.frame(tables$calendar) However I do not know how to interrogate for date or for importance. For example how could I webscrape news from Jan 2014? I am able to do this on the webpage by altering button settings, but how can I do it from within R? I was also not able to collect the importance column data. Also are there better ways for collecting economic news from within R? I have looked on http://www.rseek.org/ but could not find anything.   Hi, What I want to do is index some documents in Solr and know how it works. I have installed Solr and Tomcat and can see Solr Admin UI at localhost:8080/ solr/ admin/ Now, I want to add some documents to the index, may I know how to proceed further? I find very less documentation on Internet regarding this. In the tutorial http://lucene.apache.org/solr/tutorial.html#Indexing+Data they asked to run java -jar post.jar solr.xml monitor.xml command but after running that I get connection refused error as it is jetty. After installing jetty I tried telnet: I get "Connection refused" error I am not able to understand what the problem is.

• HTML, PHP No data in drop down box

  Hey, I am trying to figure out why a website's drop down box will not show any options. The data file for this drop down box comes from a microsoft access .mde file. The file is present and after the last update was working fine. Some changes happened to the site, i.e. text got added along with some photos. Im not saying this was when the drop down box went bad, but when it was discovered these were the only changes made. The data file seems fine as it is worked with everyday. Can anyone point me in the right direction as to where to begin looking for the bug?   I clone my source using git clone https://gerrit.wikimedia.org/r/p/mediawiki/core.git w/. Then I specify a specific branch/tag by doing git checkout <tag name> or git checkout origin/REL<release number>. Sometimes I forget what branch or tag I'm on. In SVN I would do a svn info to figure out what branch/tag I'm using (I realize that git has distinct definitions for branch and tag but for my purposes they are the same). How do I determine what branch/tag I am on?

• Developing a very nonstandard Drupal form

  I'm creating a site for a local retail shop using Drupal. Everything's been going very smoothly up until this current bit. It's a comic shop, and I want to make a place where people can manage their own subscriptions. Since the number of different titles a customer subscribes to can vary pretty widely, I want a way to make a completely dynamic form, with people able to add as many new lines as they need and I'm really struggling with Drupal's documentation. • Doctrine SQL Server uniqueidentifier isn't cast as char or nvarchar when retrieved from the database

  When I retrieve a record from the database which has a column of type "uniqueidentifier", Doctrine fills it with "null" rather than the unique id from the database. Some research and testing has brought this down to a PDO/dblib driver issue. When directly querying via PDO, null is returned in place of the unique id. For reference, http://trac.doctrine-project.org/ticket/1096, has a bit on this, however, it was updated 11 months ago with no comment for resolution. A way around this, as mentioned at http://bugs.php.net/bug.php?id=24752&edit=1, is to cast the column as a char. However, it doesn't seem Doctrine exposes the native field type outside of generating models which makes it a bit hard to detect uniqueidentifier types and cast them internally when building the sql query. Has anyone found a workaround for this?

This is an optional list of reader-names allowed to read the document. When a reader list is used, protected documents are only viewable by listed users." • BCB: how to get the (approximate) width of a character in a given TFont?

  It's a TMemo, not that that should make any difference. Googling suggests that I can use Canvas->TextWidth() but those are Delphi examples and BCB doesn't seem to offer this property. I really want something analogous to memo->Font->Height for width. I realize that not all fonts are fixed width, so a good estimate will do. All that I need is to take the width of a TMemo in pixels and make a reasonable guess at how many characters of the current font it will hold. Of course, if I really want to be lazy, I can just google for the average height/width ratio, since height is known. Remember, an approximation is good enough for me if it is tricky to get exact. http://www.plainlanguagenetwork.org/type/utbo211.htm says, " A width to height ratio of 3:5 (0.6) is recommended for most applications"

But when i use this and lets say i go to another page in my site and then go back to the homepage its sets a new cookie with the exact same name and with the ref of the previous page. Is there away to avoid this?

• How can I persist a large Perl object for re-use between runs?

  I've got a large XML file, which takes over 40 seconds to parse with XML::Simple. I'd like to be able to cache the resulting parsed object so that on the next run I can just retrieve the parsed object and not reparse the whole file. I've looked at using Data::Dumper but the documentation is a bit lacking on how to store and retrieve its output from disk files. Other classes I've looked at (e.g. Cache::Cache appear designed for storage of many small objects, not a single large one. Can anyone recommend a module designed for this? EDIT. The iPhone fires the mousedown, mouseup and click events in the correct order on a click (tap), but it either fires all three or none at all. Is there a way around this?

The script is iterating through a list trying to calc a running total of the values of all objects in the list. Some or all of these objects' values may be null.   If you go here: http://econym.org.uk/gmap/snap.htm there are some examples of the kind of stuff I'm trying to do. I want the user to enter a route on a google maps widget, and then have the map drawl the route along roads. Then the user click on a "submit" button, and their route is sent back to the server where it will be stored in a database. Instead of sending back just the red vertices, I want to send back all the information that makes up the purple lines. Is this possible?

• Special characters incongruence

  Hello I'm building a Spring MVC web application that runs on Tomcat 6.0.20 and JDK 1.6.0_19. When I send some special characters through an HTML form some of them are stored as question marks ? For example these symbols are stored correctly: €, á, é, í, ‰, etc But some symbols are replaced with ? like: £, ?, ? MySQL tables charset is utf-8. My jsp also use utf-8 <%@ page language="java" contentType="text/html; charset=UTF-8" pageEncoding="UTF-8" %> I have included org.springframework.web.filter.CharacterEncodingFilter in web.xml as suggested here When I debug the POST request when sending 3 characters €a£ with firebug I get: %E2%82%ACa%E2%82%A4 which is correct since E2 82 AC is the code for € and E2 82 A4 is the code for £ but £ is stored as ? in the database. When I save £ directly into the database it is displayed correctly in the webpage. How can I fix this?
