    I mostly use Notepad++ for dealing with XML files. It would be good if Notepad++ parsed and colorized my files based on the XML language when I open the files. Instead, I have to open the file, pick XML from the Languages menu. Is there a way to tell Notepad++ that XML is the default language and to treat the files accordingly.

  • Dlink DIR-615 suddenly stops working - Orange internet light

    I unplugged my Dlink DIR-615 router last night from the wall due to a storm rolling in. I've done this countless times, no problem. However, when I went to plug it in and use the internet today, nothing. Check everything, cycled everything. Hard reset the router, nothing. The little globe on the front is red/orange, and it should be green. Windows gives me an error of a "DNS Issue", and the internet works when connected directly to the modem. How can I fix this issue? Why would it suddenly stop working?

  • Why is Windows Update trying to install an update I don't need?

    I have a Windows 7 system that currently has a single update pending: Windows Internet Explorer 9 for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems If I try to install the update, Windows Update will: Create a restore point Fail with the error: Code 9C48 Windows Update encountered an error. The event log for the event reads: Installation Failure: Windows failed to install the following update with error 0x80070643: Windows Internet Explorer 9 for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems. If you search the web for that error, there are many other people with the exact same issue. Sadly, I am unable to apply the proposed solutions to my case, because I just installed this system. There is nothing on it, except Windows 7. I installed the system and ran through the updates. I also did the exact same process with this machine several times over the past few days due to a long-term test we just started. I didn't have any problems with any Windows Update on the previous installation runs and I know I didn't do anything different this time because I followed the installation procedures instructions which are to be used during the test. How did this happen and how do I solve it? Further Investigation So, as I always like to do, I ran the update again while running Process Monitor and dug up further details. WindowsUpdate.log First of all, there is a Windows Update log file located at C:\Windows\WindowsUpdate.log which I didn't know about.   • International Dvorak keyboard doesn't trigger hot-keys

    Hi, I just configured a Hebrew-Dvorak keyboard with Keyboard Layout Manager. What this means is that when I hold Shift+any key, the input is the capital English letter. It works just fine, however, hot-keys that involves the Ctrl key aren't being triggered when the input language is set to Hebrew (i.e Ctrl+L in FF which should set the focus on the URL bar) If however I hit the matching Qwerty key (input lang=Hebrew) I get the desirable result (i.e the URL bar get focused). The only thing I can think of is completely removing the US-Qwerty layout, but I don't know how this can be achieved, and besides, it may not solve the problem. Thanks, Almog.

  • Repointing iTunes library from failed external drive to local drive

    Up until recently I had my iTunes library on an external drive, but the drive was beginning to act up, so as a precaution, I copied all the media files onto my local hard-drive. My external drive is now completely dead, so I'm in a situation where iTunes is still looking for the files on my F: drive, but the drive is gone, so the library references are now all broken links. A complete copy of the library is on my C: drive, so I'm curious what would be the easiest way to repoint my library to the media files on C:? Should I just clear out my library in iTunes and just import the files from C:? Or is there a more automatic way? I don't think I can use the "Consolidate Library" function in iTunes, b/c I no longer have access to the original library media files.

  • Picking a linux compatible motherboard

    Last time I bought a new computer (I build them myself) I got a motherboard that had really poor linux support for a long time. Specifically the audio. I had to wait months before the kernel supported the on board audio chipset. That is exactly the situation I'm trying to avoid this time around. I have some specific questions about "server motherboards" actually. I looked at a few models of server motherboards by intel, and some random models on newegg. I wasn't able to see much of a difference from regular desktop motherboard other than most had two sockets, and support for much more ram. These boards seem more popular with Linux users. Why? AMD and Intel both have server CPUs as well. Some question, what's the difference? To make this question more concrete, I was looking at this this motherboard. The main questions about it that I can't answer are: Can I get a motherboard without on board raid and audio? I wanted to get a hardware raid controller and a PCI audio card. I thought a server motherboard would be cheaper and not have these "extras", since who wants an audio card on a server? Where can I found out about Linux support for the components on this board? "Intel ICH10R", "Realtek ALC889", "Marvell 88E8056" I'm buying this computer to work as a Linux desktop for a lot of compiling, coding and audio/video work, but I don't want to rule out the possibility of installing windows and playing some games at one point. (even if the last game I got has been sitting in its box unopened for almost a year). Is it a good idea to buy a "server motherboard" and play games on it, or are desktop boards better value for this? The ultimate solution for me would be a motherboard that had GPL divers for onboard LAN, a single CPU socket, lots of PCI express and PCI. USB 3.0, and no fancy hard disk controllers since I'll be getting a separate one.

    Here’s what I dream of: I install Windows 7 Home on my parents’ PC. They have a regular user account that they use, meaning they can’t install anything. I have an administrator account, meaning I can install things for them. I install some sort of VNC software on their machine that lets me access their computer remotely under the administrator account, so that I can install software for them (or do other administrator tasks, e.g. updates) without actually going to their house. Is there any VNC or VNC-like software that supports the above? (I guess I might be better off buying them Windows 7 Professional, and using Remote Desktop. At some point I’ll give up and get them an iPad, but for now, remote Windows admin is the dream.)

    My router does not support loopback. In order to view a webpage on my server, I either have to type in the local ip (192.168.1.201), or be on another network. What are my options for making this easier? Here are some possible things: Route all web traffic through an external proxy (seems to be overkill) Run my own DNS server (where to start?!) Buy a new router that supports loopback. Surely there is another way that I can use my laptop on the LAN and the WAN by typing in my domain more easily than these solutions.

  • Need to find jni.h in cmake on Mac

    I am trying to make VTK compile on a Mac Air machine. I am using CMake 2.8-9, using Xcode4 as the generator. If I press the Configure button with VTK_WRAP_JAVA not checked, it will go with no errors. However I definitely need to use the wrap java since my main program is in Java and I need to get to VTK which is c++. As soon as I check the wrap Java, I get Could NOT find JNI. It apparently is looking for jni.h which in Linux there is no problem finding, but in the Mac it apparently can't find it. I did a locate jni.h and got new-host-2:~ geraldkolodny$ locate jni.h /Applications/Xcode.app/Contents/Developer/Platforms/MacOSX.platform/Developer/SDKs/MacOSX10.7.sdk/System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Versions/A/Headers/jni.h /Applications/Xcode.app/Contents/Developer/Platforms/MacOSX.platform/Developer/SDKs/MacOSX10.8.sdk/System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Versions/A/Headers/jni.h /Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/jdk1.7.0_07.jdk/Contents/Home/include/jni.h I tried to manually put into JAVA_INCLUDE_PATH2 either entry 2 or 3 (without the jni.h at the end), but it still can't find jni.h.     I am trying to install UNetbootin on my Linux Mint (12 - KDE) machine and it will not run. I downloaded the Linux version of it (downloads as a unetbootin-linux-581 file) and set its permission to chmod +x unetbootin-linux-581. I've tried running it every way I can think of: Double-clicking it from the dolphin file manager Running ./unetbootin-linux-581 Running sh ./unetbootin-linux-581 Running unetbootin-linux-581.sh Nothing seems to be working. So I downloaded it on my Linux Ubuntu (12.04) machine, in case UNetbootin doesn't run on Mint for some reason, and am getting the same results. How do I run it, or what do I need to do to be able to run it?!? Thanks in advance!

    Hey I have some problems with my Win7 so I've ran sfc /scannow and I got this message: "Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files and was unable to fix some of them..." I also told to look at the folder of the log file to find the cbs.log. After that I've ran this command to pull out the actual problems/corrupt files: findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%\Logs\CBS\CBS.log >"%userprofile%\Desktop\sfcdetails.txt" This command have created an sfcdetails text file (download). Can someone help me to analyze this file? I haven't found a detailed article about it so far.

    CSV files are automatically associated with Excel but when I open them, all the rows are basically in the first column, like this: It's probably because when Excel thinks "comma-separated values", it actually searches for some other delimiter (I think it's semicolon but it's not important). Now when I have already opened this file in Excel, is there a button or something to tell it "reopen this file and use comma as a delimiter"? I know I can import the data into a new worksheet etc. but I'm asking specifically for a help with situation where I already have a CSV file with commas in it and I want to open it in Excel without creating new workbook or transforming the original file.

    I've run into an odd problem where Automtor.app on Snow Leopard crashes on launch. At some point in the past, I put a copy of iPhoto.app into my public directory to copy over to another machine. Now, Automator.app won't run unless my public directory has a copy of iPhoto.app in it. If I remove it, Automator.app crashes on launch.   • Flipping the video stream in Sony Vegas Studio!

    How do I flip a video stream, making it effectively appear to run backwards? For example, I've got a 6 second video stream. I cut it at 2, 4, 6, so I've got now 3 seperate streams with 2 seconds each. 1-2 ; 3-4; 5-6 - That's how it'll be displayed normally. Now what I want to do in Sony Vegas is to copy/paste and flip a selected stream. Let say: 1-2; 3-4; 3'-4'; 5-6 - The second 3-4 is copy/pasted; now I've got a video stream with 8 seconds. Now I want to flip this copy pasted making it effectively run backwards. 1-2; 3-4; 4'-3'; 5-6. The idea is I want something like a movie, it goes, and goes and goes, then a text appears "WAIT! What just happend?", then the movie goes back to second 3. 1-2-3-4-'WAIT! What just happened?'-4-3-4-5-6. I hope you get what I want to do in Sony Vegas.

  • Mac Book Pro wakes up in my backpack

    This has happened to me twice: I press the power button on my Mac Book Pro, choose sleep, close it, unplug everything, confirm that is off (by pressing my ear to it) and put it in my bag. Some minutes later, the laptop wakes up by itself. Both times I caught it in time. The second time it was so hot I couldn't touch some parts -- it refused to actually wake up, and the screen was blank. Restarting it worked though. Any ideas what might be going on and/or how to prevent this? More details: It's a Mac Book Pro unibody 15" from 2009.

  • Right-button drag-drop function in Gnome

    While I don't really miss the annoyances that go with working on Windows, one thing I do wish I had in Gnome is the ability to hold the right-mouse button down on a file and drag it to get the context menu asking if I want to move or copy the file. I realise the default tries to be sensible (like in Windows - defaults to move if on the same volume, or copy if on different) and that it can be overridden with <ctrl> or <shift> - but i'm still used to the right-mouse drag option and keep getting frustrated when it doesn't work...

    I'm trying to open two PowerPoint 2007 documents, and they are open, but they're STUCK in the same window. I can't look at both presentations simultaneously, which is what I want to do. I want to open each presentation in ITS OWN, SEPARATE WINDOW, like in MS-Word how you can have two documents open and they'd be in two separate, draggable windows. I want OUT of the MDI and just have two completely separate windows! How?
