• Complicated football league Dynamic Ordering in MySQL?

  I have a table 'games' for a football league as follows: date home_team_id away_team_id home_score away_score - 1 2 6 21 - 3 1 7 19 I can't figure out how to dynamically generate a list of team ID's ordered by Wins (then points for if poss)? -- I have this query which works fine when I have a $team_id but of cause then I can only do 1 team at a time, and that doesn't allow for ordering at query level ((SELECT COUNT(*) FROM `games` WHERE ((`home_score` > `away_score`) AND `home_team_id` = '.$team_id.')) + (SELECT COUNT(*) FROM `games` WHERE ((`home_score` < `away_score`) AND `away_team_id` = '.$team_id.'))) AS `wins` I wonder if i can use this with some form of GROUP, or mySQL can know the $team_id itself? I've also tried some multiple JOINs with the 'team' table but they didn't work either. When i update/modify the record, dateModified and dateCreated remains as is? What should i do? Obviously, i need to dateCreated value to remain as was inserted the first time and dateModified keeps changing when a change/modification occurs in the record fields. In other words, can you please write a sample quick trigger? I don't know much yet...

  I am revising for the MCTS example and am on a small section regarding Culture-Insensitive comparisons. I get the principle, you don't two items which are the same (i.e dates) but are displayed differently and hence are pragmatically marked as different. However call me stupid but I am finding it hard to see where I can use it is practice, for example why would you have two different date times, in the same code, in which they are different cultures? The only way to do so would be if you manually override the one of the datatypes cultures and why would you do that? Any example of a real-world application of culturally insensitive comparisons?   I am looking into the iPhone in app purchased models and need to implement a subscription. Ex content will be available for 24 hours. Now the most important thing is that it needs to be available on all the other devices, so bought on the iPhone, viewable on the iPad. I'm not sure how this works ? I need to store some information on the developer server but is this the transaction id and current date/time so when launching the app on the iPad, you will attempt to buy the content again. Apple will see that this user already bought that and hopefully returns the transaction ID. At that moment I can verify if the time limit it still valid or not. Can anyone confirm this method off working? If this is correct is there a 'renew'?

• SQL Server ORDER BY/WHERE with nested select

  I'm trying to get SQL Server to order by a column from a nested select. I know this isn't the best way of doing this but it needs to be done. I have two tables, Bookings and BookingItems. BookingItems contains StartDate and EndDate fields, and there can be multiple BookingItems on a Booking. I need to find the earliest startdate and latest end date from BookingItems, then filter and sort by these values. I've tried with a nested select, but when I try to use one of the selected columns in a WHERE or ORDER BY, I get an "Invalid Column Name".   I'm using CodeIgniter's Active Record class to query the MySQL database. I need to select the rows in a table where a field is not set to NULL: $this->db->where('archived !=', 'NULL'); $q = $this->db->get('projects'); That only returns this query: SELECT * FROM projects WHERE archived != 'NULL'; The archived field is a DATE field. Is there a better way to solve this? I know I can just write the query myself, but I wan't to stick with the Active Record throughout my code.

• Updating Excel Cell with Non-Numeric Data in C#

  I have a query that is ExcelQuery = "Update [Sheet1$] set CITIZEN_ID = #" + value + " where CITIZEN_ID = " + value; As you can see, I'm essentially just appending a "#" onto the CITIZEN_ID field. value is a int/numeric value. So if I had "256" in the CITIZEN_ID column it would be converted to "#256" When I execute this I get an OleDbException Syntax error in date in query expression so I surrounded part of the query in single quotes like this, ExcelQuery = "Update [Sheet1$] set CITIZEN_ID = '#" + value + "' where CITIZEN_ID = " + value; With that I get yet another OleDbException this time with, Data type mismatch in criteria expression. I'm guessing for some reason the CITIZEN_ID fields don't want to take anything besides a plain number. Is there any way I can remedy this to get that pound symbol in? Thanks!

I also have read something about MapReduce and Column oriented tables, big tables, hypertable etc... trying to understand which are the most up to date methods to scale web application data. But the second group, to me, is being hard to understand where it fits. It serves as transactional, reliable data store? or not, its just for large access and processing and to handle fine graned operations we will ever need to rely on RDBMSs? Could someone give a comprehensive landscape for those new technologies and how to use it?

  I have three tables (user, friends, posts) and two users (user1 and user2). When user1 adds user2 as friend then user1 can see the posts of user2 just like on Facebook. But only the posts after the date when user1 added user2 as friend. • Securing WinForms Application suggestions

  I've been looking for a simple key/license system for our users. Its partly to stop piracy (avoid users from sharing the application around) and the other half to track the number of 'licensed users' we have. I have already read a few good suggestions on SO but I'm curious as to how people have implemented the 30 day evaluation criteria. Do you generate a key that stores the date somewhere and do a comparison each time or is it a little more complicated - deleting the file/removing the registry shouldn't deactivate. Are there any example implementations out there that can give me a head start? The irony is that our PM doesn't want to license a third-party system to do it for us. This is for a Windows Forms application.

  I'm adding repeating events to a Cocoa app I'm working on. I have repeat every day and week fine because I can define these mathematically (3600*24*7 = 1 week). I use the following code to modify the date: [NSDate dateWithTimeIntervalSinceNow:(3600*24*7*(weeks))] I know how many months have passed since the event was repeated but I can't figure out how to make an NSDate object that represents 1 month/3 months/6 months/9 months into the future. Ideally I want the user to say repeat monthly starting Oct. 14 and it will repeat the 14th of every month.

  I am creating simple ui-datetime directive. It splits javascript Date object into _date, _hours and _minutes parts. _date uses jquery ui datepicker, _hours and _minutes - number inputs. When I tried to use isolated scope - nothing works. ngModel.$viewValue === undefined. When I tried to use new scope (my example, not so good variant imho) - ngModel uses value on newly created scope. Of course I can create directive with isolated scope and work with ngModel value through "=expression" (example). But I think that working with ngModelController is a better practice. My questions: Can I use ngModelController with isolated scope? If it is not possible which solution is better for creating such component?

• PHP File Serving Script: Unreliable Downloads?

  This post started as a question on ServerFault ( http://serverfault.com/questions/131156/user-receiving-partial-downloads ) but I determined that our php script was the culprit. So I'm issuing an updated question here about what I believe is the actual issue. I am using a php script to verify permissions and then serve up a file for users of my website to download. Most of the time, this works, but recently one user has been seeing problems with larger downloads. He is only getting ~80% of downloads for files that are 100MB in size. Also, all downloads from this script fail to report a filesize. Further, tests revealed that the same user COULD reliably download each of the failed files if given a direct link (at which point the filesize is reported). Here's the relevant snippet of code that we are using to serve the file: header("Content-type:$contenttype"); $len = filesize($filename); header("Content-Length: $len"); header("Content-Disposition: attachment; filename=".$title.".".$ext); readfile($filename); Note that $contenttype, $filename, $title, and $ext are all set correctly before we get here. These have been triple-checked. None of them are the problem. Also, $len does provide the correct filesize. While researching this issue, I came across this post: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1334471/content-length-header-always-zero It seems that I am encountering the same issue. When I use the script, I get chunked encoding on the file and no size is set for content-length. I'm hypothesizing that something is going wrong on the large downloads, leading him to get a zero-length chunk before the end of the file. • Is there a sample set of web log data available for testing analysis against?

  Sorry if this isn't strictly speaking a programming question, but I figure my best chance of success would be to ask here. I'm developing some web log file analysis algorithms, but to date I only have access to a fairly small amount of web log data to process. One algorithm I want to use makes some assumptions about 'the shape' of typical web log data, and so I'd like to test it against a larger 'exemplar' - perhaps the logs of a busy site with a good distribution of traffic from different sources etc. Is there a set of such data available somewhere? Thanks for any help.
