• Creating blob properties with Entity Framework 4?

  I am creating an EF4 model-first application with a WPF UI. One of the controls on my UI is a RichTextDocument, which outputs a WPF FlowDocument. I can either serialize the FlowDocument to a byte array, or extract its XAML markup as a string. I would prefer to use binary serialization, if I can. Here are my questions: If I serialize to a byte array, how do I specify an entity property as a byte array in the EDM Designer? If I extract a XAML markup string, can I specify that the EDM Designer create the corresponding database column as a nvarchar(max) column? As to the second question, I assume I could always manually edit the MyModel.edmx.sql file to change the data type from nvarchar(4000) to nvarchar(max) before executing it, but I would like to know if it can be done in the Designer. Thanks for your help.

• Wordpress, WP_Query with custom taxonomy and custom post type

  This code gets 10 posts of all types that are linked to the term_name; global $wp_query; query_posts( array( "taxonomy_name" => "term_name", 'showposts' => 10 ) ); This code gets 10 posts of custom post type "message"; global $wp_query; query_posts( array( 'post_type' => 'message' 'showposts' => 10 ) ); This code however always ignores the post_type requirement but still selects all post types linked to the term_name; global $wp_query; query_posts( array( 'post_type' => 'message' , "taxonomy_name" => "term_name", 'showposts' => 10 ) ); I can't see how both can work individually but together they don't unless it might be a bug - any thoughts?

The newly previewed Razor syntax is a concise lightweight syntax. • Regex: replace inner string

  I'm working with X12 EDI Files (Specifialy 835s for those of you in Health Care), and I have a particular vendor who's using a non-HIPAA compliant version (3090, I think). The problem is that in a particular segment (PLB- again, for those who care) they're sending a code which is no longer supported by the HIPAA Standard. I need to locate the specific code, and update it with a corrected code. I think a Regex would be best for this, but I'm still very new to Regex, and I'm not sure where to begin. My current methodology is to turn the file into an array of strings, find the array that starts with "PLB", break that into an array of strings, find the code, and change it. As you can guess, that's very verbose code for something which should be (I'd think) fairly simple. Here's a sample of what I'm looking for: ~PLB|1902841224|20100228|49KC15X078001104|.08~ And here's what I want to change it to: ~PLB|1902841224|20100228|CSKC15X078001104|.08~ Any suggestions?

  Hi, I'm trying to follow Marcus Zarra in his book 'Core Data'. In the book, he makes a small sample application, but it doesn't give much help when things don't work out... He starts out by visually designing three entities, and then adding array controllers for each entity to the main nib. Second, he adds a tableview and some other visual components to show data from the array controllers. So far, I have managed to follow, but now he adds a search field to the gui, and binds it to the same array controller as one of the tableviews. Expected behavior would be for the tableview to get filtered when typing in the search field, but nothing happens. How do I find out what's wrong? The relevant parts from the nib is as follow: NSArrayController Recipes - Mode = Entity - Enitity Name = Recipe TableView w/TableColumn - Value Bind To Recipes -- Controller Key = arrangedObjects -- Model Key Path = name Search Field - Predicate Bind To Recipes -- Controller Key = filterPredicate -- Model Key Path = name -- Display name = predicate -- Predicate Format = keyPath contains $value There are no relevant messages in the console. regards, -Vegar

• JavaScript Intellisense Improvements with VS 2010

  This is the twentieth in a series of blog posts I’m doing on the upcoming VS 2010 and .NET 4 release.  Today’s blog post covers some of the nice improvements coming with JavaScript intellisense with VS 2010 and the free Visual Web Developer 2010 Express.  You’ll find with VS 2010 that JavaScript Intellisense loads much faster for large script files and with large libraries, and that it now provides statement completion support for more advanced scenarios compared to previous versions of Visual Studio. Follow me at: twitter.com/scottgu] Improved JavaScript Intellisense Providing Intellisense for a dynamic language like JavaScript is more involved than doing so with a statically typed language like VB or C#.  Correctly inferring the shape and structure of variables, methods, etc is pretty much impossible without pseudo-executing the actual code itself – since JavaScript as a language is flexible enough to dynamically modify and morph these things at runtime.  VS 2010’s JavaScript code editor now has the smarts to perform this type of pseudo-code execution as you type – which is how its intellisense completion is kept accurate and complete.  Below is a simple walkthrough that shows off how rich and flexible it is with the final release. Scenario 1: Basic Type Inference When you declare a variable in JavaScript you do not have to declare its type.  Instead, the type of the variable is based on the value assigned to it.  Because VS 2010 pseudo-executes the code within the editor, it can dynamically infer the type of a variable, and provide the appropriate code intellisense based on the value assigned to a variable. For example, notice below how VS 2010 provides statement completion for a string (because we assigned a string to the “foo” variable): If we later assign a numeric value to “foo” the statement completion (after this assignment) automatically changes to provide intellisense for a number: Scenario 2: Intellisense When Manipulating Browser Objects It is pretty common with JavaScript to manipulate the DOM of a page, as well as work against browser objects available on the client.  Previous versions of Visual Studio would provide JavaScript statement completion against the standard browser objects – but didn’t provide much help with more advanced scenarios (like creating dynamic variables and methods).  VS 2010’s pseudo-execution of code within the editor now allows us to provide rich intellisense for a much broader set of scenarios. For example, below we are using the browser’s window object to create a global variable named “bar”.  Notice how we can now get intellisense (with correct type inference for a string) with VS 2010 when we later try and use it: When we assign the “bar” variable as a number (instead of as a string) the VS 2010 intellisense engine correctly infers its type and modifies statement completion appropriately to be that of a number instead: Scenario 3: Showing Off Because VS 2010 is psudo-executing code within the editor, it is able to handle a bunch of scenarios (both practical and wacky) that you throw at it – and is still able to provide accurate type inference and intellisense. For example, below we are using a for-loop and the browser’s window object to dynamically create and name multiple dynamic variables (bar1, bar2, bar3…bar9).  Notice how the editor’s intellisense engine identifies and provides statement completion for them: Because variables added via the browser’s window object are also global variables – they also now show up in the global variable intellisense drop-down as well: Better yet – type inference is still fully supported.  So if we assign a string to a dynamically named variable we will get type inference for a string.  If we assign a number we’ll get type inference for a number.  Just for fun (and to show off!) we could adjust our for-loop to assign a string for even numbered variables (bar2, bar4, bar6, etc) and assign a number for odd numbered variables (bar1, bar3, bar5, etc): Notice above how we get statement completion for a string for the “bar2” variable.  Notice below how for “bar1” we get statement completion for a number:   This isn’t just a cool pet trick While the above example is a bit contrived, the approach of dynamically creating variables, methods and event handlers on the fly is pretty common with many Javascript libraries.  Many of the more popular libraries use these techniques to keep the size of script library downloads as small as possible.  VS 2010’s support for parsing and pseudo-executing libraries that use these techniques ensures that you get better code Intellisense out of the box when programming against them. Summary Visual Studio 2010 (and the free Visual Web Developer 2010 Express) now provide much richer JavaScript intellisense support.  This support works with pretty much all popular JavaScript libraries.  It should help provide a much better development experience when coding client-side JavaScript and enabling AJAX scenarios within your ASP.NET applications. Now what I want to do is do some processing on the JSON objects given to the webservice and return a JSON array of the same type of objects(same field names and such) How would I do this easily? I am using Netwonsoft.Json. Is there some way to turn a JSON string into a List or Array of an object?

• Pass-by-Reference Error

  I have a hook system setup... which is working on localhost... I put it live and get an error saying "Warning: Call-time pass-by-reference has been deprecated". Now, apparently the work around is to remove all "&" from your function calls, ie foo(&$me) to foo($me) and then in foo's function definition do "function foo(&$me)". However, I can not do this... because my hooks accept an array as arguments, I need a work around for this. Like I can use "run_hooks ( 'hook-name', $me );" or "run_hooks ( 'hook-name', array ( $me, $another_var, etc... ) )"; So this means I can not use "function run_hooks ( $hook_name, &$arguments )" because I'll get an error in php saying it can not pass "array()" as reference... Any ideas an a work around? Thanks.

The first step in my process was to download from codeplex a starter masterpage http://startermasterpages.codeplex.com/ . 2. Once you downloaded the starter master page, open up your SharePoint site in SharePoint Designer 2010 and on the left in the “Site Objects “ area click on the folder “All Files” and drill down to catalogs >> masterpages . Once you are in the Masterpage folder copy and paste the _starter.master into this folder. 3. The first step in the customization process is to create your custom style sheet. To create your custom style sheet, click on the “all Files” folder and click on “Style Library.” Right click in the style library section and choose Style sheet. Once the style sheet is created, rename it style.css. Now open the style sheet you created in SharePoint Designer. 4. In this next step you will copy and paste the SharePoint core styles for the global navigation into your custom style sheet. In the” find what field”, copy and paste and then click find next. 7. Now, in the code replace You have now referenced your custom style sheet in your masterpage. 8. The next step is to locate your Global Navigation control, make sure you are scrolled to the top in the code section and press “ctrl f” on the key board. This will pop up the find and replace tool. In the” find what field”, copy and paste ID="TopNavigationMenuV4” and then click find next. Once you find ID="TopNavigationMenuV4” , you should see the following block of code which is the global navigation control: ID="TopNavigationMenuV4" Runat="server" EnableViewState="false" DataSourceID="topSiteMap" AccessKey="" UseSimpleRendering="true" UseSeparateCss="false" Orientation="Horizontal" StaticDisplayLevels="1" MaximumDynamicDisplayLevels="1" SkipLinkText="" CssClass="s4-tn" 9. In the global navigation code above you should see CssClass="s4-tn" . As an additional step you can replace "s4-tn" your own custom name like CssClass="MyNav" . If you can the name of the CSS class make sure you update your custom style sheet with the new name, example below: .MyNav{ padding:0px; margin:0px; } .MyNav ul.static{ white-space:nowrap; } 10. At this point you are ready to brand your global navigation. The next step is to modify your style.css with your customizations to the default SharePoint styles. • Heap Dump Root Classes

  We have production system going into infinite loop of full gc and memory drops form 8 gigs to like 1 MB in just 2 minutes. After taking heap dump it tells me there an is an array of java.lang.Object ([Ljava.lang.Object) with millions of java.lang.String objects having same String taking 99% of heap. But it doesn't tell me which class is referencing to this array so that I can fix it in the code. I took the heap dump using jmap tool on JDK 6 and used JProfiler, NetBeans, SAP Memory Analyzer and IBM Memory Analyzer but none of those tell me what is causing this huge array of objects?? ... like what class is referencing to it or contains it. Do I have to take a different dump with different config in order to get that info? ... Or anything else that can help me find out the culprit class causing this ... it will help a lot.

• CakePHP: find neighbors, order on 'name' or 'order'

  Hi, I have a list of ordered items, ordered according to the int field order. I'm creating a gallery in CakePHP 1.2 that has a prev and next button and those should link to the previous and next item according to their ordering, not according to their id. In order to get this result I've included the 'order' parameter to the find function, and populated it with 'Item.order'=>'DESC'. Still the result is an id ordered list. My question is: what do I do wrong? My controller: $this->Item->id = 16; $neighbours = $this->Item->find('neighbors', array('order'=>array('Item.order'=>'DESC'), 'fields'=>array('id','name')));

  Q: What’s your current role and what career path brought you here? J.O.: I'm currently a partner and one of the founding team members at Altimeter Group.  I'm currently the Research Director, as well as wear the hat of Industry Analyst. Prior to joining Altimeter, I was an Industry Analyst at Forrester covering Social Computing, and before that, deployed and managed the social media program at Hitachi Data Systems in Santa Clara.  Around that time, I started a career blog called Web Strategy which focused on how companies were using the web to connect with customers --and never looked back. Q: As an industry analyst, what are you focused on these days? J.O.: There are three trends that I'm focused my research on at this time:  1) The Dynamic Customer Journey:  Individuals (both b2c and b2b) are given so many options in their sources of data, channels to choose from and screens to consume them on that we've found that at each given touchpoint there are 75 potential permutations.  Companies that can map this, then deliver information to individuals when they need it will have a competitive advantage and we want to find out who's doing this.  2) One of the sub themes that supports this trend is Social Performance.  Yesterday's social web was disparate engagement of humans, but the next phase will be data driven, and soon new technologies will emerge to help all those that are consuming, publishing, and engaging on the social web to be more efficient with their time through forms of automation.  As you might expect, this comes with upsides and downsides.  3) The Sentient World is our research theme that looks out the furthest as the world around us (even inanimate objects) become 'self aware' and are able to talk back to us via digital devices and beyond.  Big data, internet of things, mobile devices will all be this next set. Q: People cite that the line between work and life is getting more and more blurred. Do you see your personal life influencing your professional work? J.O.: The lines between our work and personal lives are dissolving, and this leads to a greater upside of being always connected and have deeper relationships with those that are not.  It also means a downside of society expectations that we're always around and available for colleagues, customers, and beyond.  In the future, a balance will be sought as we seek to achieve the goals of family, friends, work, and our own personal desires.  All of this is being ironically written at 430 am on a Sunday am.  Q: How can people keep up with what you’re working on? I’m really proud to have taken an active role in the first ever LeWeb outside of Paris. This one, which was featured in downtown London across the street from Westminster Abbey was sold out. If you’ve not heard of LeWeb, this is a global Internet conference hosted by Loic and Geraldine Le Meur, a power couple that stem from Paris but are also living in Silicon Valley, this is one of my favorite conferences to connect with brands, technology innovators, investors and friends. Altimeter was able to play a minor role in suggesting the theme for the event “Faster Than Real Time” which stems off previous LeWebs that focused on the “Real time web”. In this radical state, companies are able to anticipate the needs of their customers by using data, technology, and devices and deliver meaningful experiences before customers even know they need it. I explore two of three of Altimeter’s research themes, the Dynamic Customer Journey, and the Sentient World in my speech, but due to time, did not focus on Adaptive Organization.

• What's an efficient way of calculating the nearest point?

  I have objects with location data stored in Core Data, I would like to be able to fetch and display just the nearest point to the current location. I'm aware there are formulas which will calculate the distance from current lat/long to a stored lat/long, but I'm curious about the best way to perform this for a set of 1000+ points stored in Core Data. I know I could just return the points from Core Data to an array and then loop through that looking for the min value for distance between the points but I'd imagine there's a more efficient method, possibly leveraging Core Data in some way. Any insight would be appreciated. EDIT: I don't know how I missed this on my initial search but this SO question suggests just iterating through an array of Core Data objects but limiting the array size with a bounding box based on the current location. Is this the best I can do?

  hello, I want to do some kind of image editor, after I upload more images i want to make a list with all the thumbnails! after i want to be able to click on one thumb and rotate, duplicate, drag and drop (to change positions of the images), delete the image! all the images i want to be in a php array, if a image is deleted i want to delete the row from array to, if a image is drag and droped i want to change the position in the array to! ok after the user upload all the images and modify some of it how i can make a DONE button to save the positions of the images? for this small project how u suggest me to save the images? (to make a table in mysql and store the names of the images in the database depending on the session id? depending on the IP? any suggestions are welcome! thanks!

  I have a couple of dropdown filters in my GridView, in the search part of my model I have: if ($this->agent_primary != "") { $criteria->addColumnCondition(array('agent_type_id'=>1, 'agent.agent_id'=>$this->agent_primary)); } if ($this->agent_voice != "") { $criteria->addColumnCondition(array('agent_type_id'=>2, 'agent.agent_id'=>$this->agent_voice)); } if ($this->agent_commercial != "") { $criteria->addColumnCondition(array('agent_type_id'=>3, 'agent.agent_id'=>$this->agent_commercial)); } I need to somehow combine this so if someone selects two of the three dropdowns (or all three) they get the correct results, currently the sql has there WHERE in separate brackets for each addColumnCondition: WHERE (condition1a = a AND condition1b = b) AND (condition2a = a AND condition2b = b) instead of WHERE (condition1a = a AND condition1b = b) OR (condition2a = a AND condition2b = b)

  Using an NSPredicate for an array is rather straight forward using filteredArrayUsingPredicate:. How is this done for key-path values? Meaning, I have an array of objects (in this case, the objects are of the same type). The objects each have an instance variable called name. As per the documentation, it says to do the following: NSPredicate *predicate = [NSPredicate predicateWithFormat: @"ANY employees.firstName like 'Matthew'"]; Is that -also- used in filteredArrayUsingPredicate? What if I have an array of People objects? does that mean I would use: NSArray *allPeopleObjects; // pre-populated NSPredicate *predicate = [NSPredicate predicateWithFormat:@"ANY people.name like 'Foo'"]; NSArray *matching = [allPeopleObjects filteredArrayUsingPredicate:predicate]; Documentation is a bit lacking in that department.

  I am starting with c++ and need to know, what should be the approach to copy one hashtable to another hashtable in C++? We can easily do this in java using: HashMap copyOfOriginal=new HashMap(original); But what about C++? How should I go about it? UPDATE Well, I am doing it at a very basic level,perhaps the java example was a wrong one to give. This is what I am trying to implement using C++: I have this hash array and each element of the array point to the head of a linked list. Which has it's individual nodes (data and next pointer). And now, I need to copy the complete hash array and the linked list each node is pointing to.

• how to handle duplicates in AVL tree

  I want to make my avl tree support adding duplicates but there is a problem with the default behavior of the binary search tree with duplicates that the rotation could make nodes with equal key be on the left and the right of the parent for example adding A,A,A will cause the tree to do a rotation to be something like that A / \ A A so getting all the entries with that key will be a problem...and searching in both direction is not something good the solution that i have thought of is making each node stores an array of duplicates so when adding a new item that already exists will be just adding a new item to the array , removing item with key will delete the whole node while the find all items with key will return that array. are there are any other methods to handle duplicates ?

• I've Heard Global Variables Are Bad, What Alternative Solution Should I Use?

  I've read all over the place that global variables are bad and alternatives should be used. In Javascript specifically, what solution should I choose. I'm thinking of a function, that when fed two arguments (function globalVariables(Variable,Value)) looks if Variable exists in a local array and if it does set it's value to Value, else, Variable and Value are appended. If the function is called without arguments (function globalVariables()) it returns the array. Perhaps if the function is fired with just one argument (function globalVariables(Variable)) it returns the value of Variable in the array. What do you think? I'd like to hear your alternative solutions and arguments for using global variables.
