• Create a many to many relationship in Entity Framework skipping extra data in the link table.

  I would like to model the following many to many relationship. Table A ID Field1 Field2 Table B ID Field1 Field2 LinkTable A_ID B_ID Field_I_want_to_ignore As I understand it, if LinkTable.Field_I_want_to_ignore was not present, the Entity Model Designer would automatically create a Many to Many relationship between entity A and entity B. However, because this field exists in the database the designer won't do it for me. I can delete the Field_I_want_to_ignore from the LinkTable Entity that the designer created for me, but how do I eliminate the LinkTable entity altogether and create the many to many relationship I want? I'm not averse to digging through the XML, just at the moment I can't see how to achieve what I want.

  I have two models in relation one-to-many: class Question(db.Model): questionText = db.StringProperty(multiline=False) class Answer(db.Model): answerText = db.StringProperty(multiline=False) question = db.ReferenceProperty(Question, collection_name='answers') I have front-end implemented in Flex and use pyamf to load data. When i try to load all answers with related questions all works as desired and I can access field answer.question however in case of loading questions (e.g. by Questions.all() ), 'question.answers' remains empty/null (though on server/python side I can revise question.answers without problem - probably after lazy-loading). So is it possible to load all questions along with answers ? (I know this is possible in JPA Java api but what about python ?) Shoud I use additional setting, GQL query or django framework to make it work ?

  hello, i'm trying to build a mini reply system, based on the user's posts on a mini blog. Every post has a link named reply. if one presses reply, the reply form appears, and one edits the reply, and submits the form.The problem is that i don't know how to take the id of the post i want to reply to. In the view, if i use as a parameter one number (as an id of the blog post),it inserts the reply to the database. But how can i do it by not hardcoding? • Limit a user to view only associated records in rails

  I have an application with three Models (Profile - SubModel - SubSubModel) chained together with has many relationships. I am trying to limit a user, after logging in, to only retrieving records that are associated with their Profile. I am very new to rails and this is what I had been trying in the Profile model has_many :submodels, :conditions => {:profile_id => self.id} but this is returning an empty data set when calling with Profile.find_by_id(1).submodels, how else could I achieve what I am trying to do. Or should I handle this in the controller or view instead, I thought it sounded well suited for the model to handle this.

  I need to parse plain Win32 DLL/Exe and need to get all imports and exports from it and to show it on console or GUI(say Win Forms). Is it possible to parse Win32 DLL/Exe in C#.NET, read its export table,import table and get managed types from it. As its unmanaged PE(.NET doesn't allows you to convert unmanaged PE files to managed .NET assemblies, only it generates COM managed assemblies). So how to parse export and import tables of PE files and take all methods(signatures from it) in managed form.(e.g if char* as argument, it should display as IntPtr)

• Catch database exception in Kohana

  I'm using Kohana 2. I would like to catch a database exception to prevent an error page when no connection to the server can be established. The error displayed is system/libraries/drivers/Database/Mysql.php [61]: mysql_connect() [function.mysql-connect]: Lost connection to MySQL server at 'reading initial communication packet', system error: 110 The database server is not reachable at all at this point. I'm doing this from a model. I tried both public function __construct() { // load database library into $this->db try { parent::__construct(); } catch (Exception $e) { die('Database error occured'); } } as well as try { $hoststatus = $this->db->query('SELECT x FROM y WHERE z;'); } catch (Exception $e) { die('Database error occured'); } ...but none of them seemed to work. It seems as if no exception gets passed on from the main model. Is there another way to catch the database error and use my own error handling?

  Hey, I would like to use Android for Model-Driven-Software-Development. For this, I need to locate the Android Model in the SDK. I already searched a while for it, but were not able to find it. Has anyone an idea where it could be? Is it possible, that it is the AndroidManifest.xml-File in the folder android-sdk-\platforms\android-x\android.jar? After unpacking this file, I am not able to open that file correctly on Windows XP, because a lot of characters have the wrong character set.   i am trying to use GLM to load a .obj object in my Objective-C Program (Xcode 4.4 Mac Os X). I have added the glm folder to my project. i try to import it using #import "glm/glm.hpp", but the program doesn't build. some of the errors are the following: (this errors are produced in the GLM files) namespace glm{ //Unknown type name 'namespace' namespace detail { ..... it doesn't find the cstdlib, cmath, and other libraries.... This happens because my program is in Objective-c and the GLM doesn't work with this language??? How can i resolve this problem??? Thanks for your help.

• LINQ to SQL Could not find key member. Only fails on server.

  I have a scenario where I am inheriting from an abstract class in my partial linq to sql auto generated class implementation. My base abstract class has an abstract property called ID which I have flagged inside my LINQ to SQL model with the instance modifier override. This works fine locally without any issues. I have also done some development on another machine and it works fine there too (both in VS2008 and using Subversion). I am running CI with TeamCity and the build succeeds and deploys as desired. The problem is when the server tries to hit the database for the first time via the LINQ to SQL data context, it generates the following error. "Could not find key member 'Id' of key 'Id' on type 'CustomType'. The key may be wrong or the field or property on 'CustomType' has changed names." I have tried changing my configuration by not implementing the Id field in my base class but this still fails. Why does it work on both of my DEV machines but not on the server? I am using LINQ to SQL in another project that runs on this server just fine. FYI: LINQ to SQL, SQL 2008, .NET 3.5, SERVER 2008, IIS 7.0 UPDATE I have gone back and added the same table a second time in the same data model but without a base class and have then displayed the results from that table and got no errors. This tells me it has something to do with my base abstract class and the need to flag a property on one of my linq to sql model classes (that belongs to a key relationship) with the instance modifier of override. No answer to this yet but am getting closer. UPDATE I have fixed my issue by simply changing my approach to my problem but I am still interested in why this doesn't work. I created a new WinSrv2008 VPC and patched it, deployed a pre-built version of my site to it and still got the same error. I now assume the issue is like what the person said here, a dependency issue with VS2008. My question is what or what? Will install VS2008 on the VPC to see if it works after that.

You can define module-level doctests and/or a doctest for individual models. It's common practice to put application-level doctests in the module docstring and model-level doctests in the model docstrings. A file called tests.py in the application directory -- i.e., the directory that holds models.py. This file is a hook for any and all doctests you want to write that aren't necessarily related to models. Out of curiosity I'd like to know why Django's testrunner is limited to the doctests in models.py, but more practically I'd like to know how one could expand the testrunner's doctests to include (for example) views.py and other modules when running manage.py test.   Hi, i got a weird problem regarding egrep and pipe I tried to filter a stream containing some lines who start with a topic name, such as "TICK:this is a tick message\n" When I try to use egrep to filter it : ./stream_generator | egrep 'TICK' | ./topic_processor It seems that the topic_processor never receives any messages However, when i use the following python script: ./stream_generator | python filter.py --topics TICK | ./topic_processor everything looks to be fine. I guess there need to be a 'flush' mechanism for egrep as well, is this correct? Can anyone here give me a clue? • Where and which data to save into session on an ASP.NET MVC 2 application?

  I am having some trouble saving the state of my current view. Currenly I have several selectlist calling their own Action method on the controller that returns the Index view with the filtered model based on the values of the selectlist. I have also written a little FileResult action that creates a csv file based on the current model. But I am only covering one selectlist right now as I only save the value of selectList1 into the session and access it with Session["SelectListValue1"] What are the best practices in this situation? Should I redo the entire (each action for each SelectList) part? Should I save each SelectLists value into the session and check if it's null? Or should I just save the Lambda Expression into the session and modify it during every call?

• installing simplejson on the google appengine

  Super nub question time! I am trying to use simplejson on the google appengine. In a terminal on my machine I have simplejson installed and working. But my when I try to import it in a script running on the appengine I get an error saying no such library exists. If open the interactive console on my machine (from the link on http://localhost:8080/_ah/admin) and type "import simplejson" I get: Traceback (most recent call last): File "/home/chris/google_appengine/google/appengine/ext/admin/init.py", line 210, in post exec(compiled_code, globals()) File "", line 1, in ImportError: No module named simplejson Any thoughts?

  I am using rails 3.0.0.beta3 and I am trying to implement form with nested attributes using :accepts_nested_attributes_for. My form is nested to three levels: Survey Question Answer. Survey has_many Questions, and Question has many Answers. Inside the Survey model, there is :accepts_nested_attributes_for :questions and inside the question mode, there is :accepts_nested_attributes_for :answers Everything is working fine except when I add a new answer to an existing question, it doesn't get created. However, if I make changes to the corresponding question while creating the answer, I can successfully create the answer. This example is exactly similar to a railscast: http://railscasts.com/episodes/197-nested-model-form-part-2 but doesn't work in rails3 (at least in my case). Please let me know if there is any issue with nested attributes in Rails 3. Thanks in advance.

  Hi there, I want to send an email with an attachment using the following code (Python 3.1) (greatly simplified to show the example) from email.mime.multipart import MIMEMultipart from email.mime.text import MIMEText msg = MIMEMultipart() msg['From'] = from_addr msg['To'] = to_addr msg['Subject'] = subject msg.attach(MIMEText(body)) fp = open(att_file) msg1 = MIMEText(fp.read()) attachment = msg1.add_header('Content-Disposition', 'attachment', filename=att_file) msg.attach(attachment) # set string to be sent as 3rd parameter to smptlib.SMTP.sendmail() send_string = msg.as_string() The attachment object msg1 returns 'email.mime.text.MIMEText' object at ', but when the msg1.add_header(...) line runs the result is None, hence the program falls-over in msg.as_string() because no part of the attachment can have a None value. (Traceback shows "'NoneType' object has no attribute 'get_content_maintype'" in line 118 of _dispatch in generator.py, many levels down from msg.as_string()) Has anyone any idea what the cause of the problem might be? • SSIS Dataflow From Excel Empty Rows

  Hi All, I am using SSIS Dataflow to import data into SQL2008. My data source is an excel file. The dataflow is working, however it seems that it is importing empty rows from the Excel file. I don't understand why this is happening. For example i have data in rows 1 to rows 100,000. But when the data flow task runs it might say it is importing 200,000 rows. When I then import the data back into excel, I get 200,000 rows of data with 100,000 empty rows in between the data. Can someone please help? Thanks

  Hello folks! I do some XSLT-Transformation using Saxon HE 9.2 with the output later being unmarshalled by Castor 1.3.1. The whole thing runs with Java at the JDK 6. My XSLT-Transformation looks like this: <xsl:transform version="1.0" xmlns:xsl="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform" xmlns:ns="http://my/own/custom/namespace/for/the/target/document"> <xsl:output method="xml" encoding="UTF-8" indent="no" /> <xsl:template match="/"> <ns:item> <ns:property name="id"> <xsl:value-of select="/some/complicated/xpath" /> </ns:property> <!-- ... more ... --> </xsl:template> So the thing is: if the XPath-expression /some/complicated/xpath evaluates to an empty sequence, the Saxon serializer writes <ns:property/> instead of <ns:property></ns:property>. This, however, confuses the Castor unmarshaller, which is next in the pipeline and which unmarshals the output of the transformation to instances of XSD-generated Java-code. So my question is: How can I tell the Saxon-serializer to output empty tags not as standalone tags?
