• iOS Question. Is There a Framework for Build Time Based Apps.

  I have the need for some time based effects in the iPad app I am building. The UIView class animation capability beginAnimatins/commitAnimations is exactly the sort of thing I am looking for but it is restricted to specific properties of UIView deemed animatable. Ideally, I am looking for a solution that lets me drive an a time-based function that can perhaps send messages to a class of my own choosing at the rate I specify in the animation. Specifically, I have a function - my implementation of the RenderMan function "smoothstep" which is essentially an ease-in ease-out curve common in animation. It takes [0 - 1] as input and outputs [0 - 1] as the curve is evaluated. I want to drive this function for a duration of my own choosing at rate of my own choosing. Thanks in advance. -Doug

• Java - How to change context root of a dynamic web project in eclipse

  I have developed a dynamic web project in eclipse. Now I can access it through my browser using the following url: http://localhost:8080/MyDynamicWebApp Now I want to change the access url to http://localhost:8080/app I changed the context root from the project properties | Web Project Settings | Context Root But it is not working. The web app still has the access url as earlier. I have re-deployed the application on tomcat, re-started the tomcat and have done everything that should be done but the access url is the same as earlier. I found that there were no server.xml file attached with the WARfile. The how the tomcat is determining that the context root of my web app is /MyDynamicWebApp and is allowing me to access the application through that url

  I have a class that implements IComparable. public class MyClass : IComparable<MyClass> { public int CompareTo(MyClass c) { return this.whatever.CompareTo(c.whatever); } etc.. } I then can call the sort method of a generic list of my class List<MyClass> c = new List<MyClass>(); //Add stuff, etc. c.Sort(); and have the list sorted according to my comparer. How do i specify further comparers to sort my collection different ways according to the other properties of MyClass in order to let users sort my collection in a number of different ways?

• Re-ordering a collection of UIView's based on their CGPoint

  Hi all, I have a NSMutableArray that holds a collection of UIViewControllers Amongst other properties and methods an instance of each of the viewControllers are placed in a parent view The user will place these objects individually when desired to. So essentially I use - (void)addSubview:(UIView *)view when a new view is added to the parent view controller. Because the UI is isometric it's made things a tad more complicated What I am trying to do is re-order the views based on their co-ordinate position, so items higher up the parent UIView frame is indexed lower then views lower in the parent UIview frame. And items that are on the left side of the view are positioned at a higher index to those on the right I think the solution may have to do with re-ordering the NSMutableArray but how can I compare the CGpoints? Do I need to compare the x and y separately?

  I´m using Visual Studio 2008, C# DataGridView: can you add an unbound column to a Data Bound grid? It seems pretty simple, just select the properties ("DataGridView Tasks box") for the data bound DataGridView, and select Add unbound column. However, when in runtime there will be a System.FormatException - which I can understand, as I don´t know how to "initialize" the cells in the new unbound columns. I was planning initializing it programmatically via CellFormatting event - but so far I´m failing. Any tips? Just want to get it up and running in SOME way...

• Custom constructors for models in Google App Engine (python)

  I'm getting back to programming for Google App Engine and I've found, in old, unused code, instances in which I wrote constructors for models. It seems like a good idea, but there's no mention of it online and I can't test to see if it works. Here's a contrived example, with no error-checking, etc.: class Dog(db.Model): name = db.StringProperty(required=True) breeds = db.StringListProperty() age = db.IntegerProperty(default=0) def __init__(self, name, breed_list, **kwargs): db.Model.__init__(**kwargs) self.name = name self.breeds = breed_list.split() rufus = Dog('Rufus', 'spaniel terrier labrador') rufus.put() The **kwargs are passed on to the Model constructor in case the model is constructed with a specified parent or key_name, or in case other properties (like age) are specified. This constructor differs from the default in that it requires that a name and breed_list be specified (although it can't ensure that they're strings), and it parses breed_list in a way that the default constructor could not. Is this a legitimate form of instantiation, or should I just use functions or static/class methods? And if it works, why aren't custom constructors used more often?

  I am developing a Java Desktop Application and designing the GUI with the help of Netbeans Swing GUI builder. I want to use a JSpinner in my app. I have dragged and dropped it to a JPanel. Now, I want to set its two properties: First, It should display numbers in the range of 1 to 50. Neither less than 1 nor greater than 50. How can I set that range? Second, when I try to get the value of it by spinner.getValue() it returns an Object. As my spinner's data type is Integer, would it be better to downcast the Object into Integer or Is there any other way to get that numeric value?

• In which layer should I join 2 entities together?

  I use Spring MVC and a regular JDBC. I've just learned that I should separate business process into layers which are presentation layer, controller layer, service layer, and repository/DAO layer. Now suppose that I have an Entity called Person that can have multiple Jobs. Job itself is another entity which have its own properties. From what I gathered, the repository layer only manages one entity. Now I have one entity that contains another entity. Where do I "join" them? The service layer? Suppose I want to get a person whose job isn't known yet (lazy loading). But the system might ask what the job of that particular person is later on. What is the role of each layer in this case? Please let me know if I need to add any detail into this question.

  I have a view model class which uses UnitOfWork to some database operations like fetching of items to create select lists and IPrincipal for some auditing (like modified by etc.). It cannot work without this UOW. I have configured my web site to use Ninject to inject UOW into Controllers. From controller I pass this UOW when creating view model. But when performing POST operation I am getting No parameterless constructor defined for this object. I have few SelectList type of properties which I have excluded with Bind attribute. How can I overcome this problem? Can I configure Ninject to create the objects of this type and make ModelBinder use it?

  Hi, all, I have use core data in app, I have definite a class that most like as follows: @interface Master : NSManagedObject { } @property (nonatomic, retain) NSSet* Details; .... the entity Master contains a property 'Details' that is relate to another table, this is typical Master-Details relationship, I trace the app , but I find a issue that the property 'Details' value was construct even it never be invoked ..... but I consider that the core data 'should' use some lazy mechanism to improve performance, or maybe I miss some configure step ? because the Master entity contains at least five 'Child' table properties , I have to consider this problem before use the core data .... any help ? thanks for your time!

  I'm trying to create a templated silverlight control that has a simple animation (swap a few color properties). An example would be a control that is similar to the 'questions' menu item in stackoverflow. So the consumer of the control can specify the background color and the background color for the mouseover event. I've run into the issue that I can't use template binding for a storyboard animation (http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1336689/is-it-possible-to-use-templatebinding-in-a-storyboard-in-silverlight).   I once read a blog post and cannot find it anymore. drat! It was about a guy who setup a wcf service (I guess RIA, but could have been something else) exposing the model via IQueryable to the querystring. Sou you could say http://host/articles/123/ratings and you'd get a list (soap or json) of serialized Rating entities (the properties which had some attribute attached) which pertained to an article with id 123. All this with nHibernate / nh linq in the back and in surprisingly few lines of code. Anyone knows what I am talking about? Experiences, suggestions?

I have a query: var UserList = this.repository.GetUsers(); return Json(UserList, JsonRequestBehavior.AllowGet); This was generating an error: "A circular reference was detected while serializing an object of type" This prompted this code which worked fine in L2S: var UserList = this.repository.GetUsers(); foreach (User u in UserList){ u.Subscriptions = null; } return Json(UserList, JsonRequestBehavior.AllowGet); How can i stop EF from looking into the Subscriptions table, i just want the Userlist, none of the related properties and the above example does not seem to work for this.   Here's my code: Event thisEvent = (from i in list where (i.eventID == eventID) select i).FirstOrDefault(); if (thisEvent != null) { thisEvent.eventResolved = resolved; thisEvent.eventSequence.Add(item); } "list" is a collection of IEnumerable, i.e. IEnumerable<Event> list; What I'm wondering is: after creating thisEvent using FirstOrDefault, is thisEvent still connected to list? In other words, when I change the two properties, eventResolved and eventSequence, is "list" actually changed, or is thisEvent just some totally disconnected copy of an item in "list"?

• How to keep assigned SAS user promts from disappearing after you sign out of SAS?

  I have successfully assigned user prompts by: right clicking on the program - properties - prompts - Prompt Manager and adding what I want the user to edit when the run button is pushed. What I have not yet discovered is how to keep those prompt assignments after I exit SAS. When I reopen the program the prompts are gone/blank. I understand that I need to edit the program file in which I want to use a prompt. The prompt should be added to the code as &prompt-name. But I have not yet found code or examples on how to do this. Can anybody help?

• Custom service application - proxy stopped

  Ive created a custom service app using samples from Tony Bierman and MS. I can see the application in central admin, I can create a new service app from it, the create page works, the manage page is blank and I don't have a properties page. I havent yet tried using the beast, I just want to get the deployment and admin stuff working first. However, after creating it, I see the Service app has started but the app proxy is stopped. I dont know if this is a problem or not but I cant find anywhere to start it. Should I worry?

• How to I reference a pointer from a different class

  Hey team of awesomeness!, (Iphone Objective-C question) First off, I despise singletons with a passion. Though I should probably be trying to use one, I just dont want to. I want to create a data class (that is instantiated only once by a view controller on loading), and then using a different class, message the crap out of that data instance until it is brimming with so much data, it smiles. So, how do i do that? I made a pointer to the instance of the data class when I instantiated it. I'm now over in a separate view controller, action occurs, and I want to update the initial data object. I think I need to reference that object by way of pointer, but I have no idea how to do that. yes I've set properties and getters and setters, which seem to work, but only in the initial view controller class. • Listview icons show up blurry (C#)

  I'm attempting to display a "LargeIcon" view in a listview control, however the images I specify are blurry. This is what I have so far: The .png files are 48x48 and that's what I have it set to display at in the ImageList properties. There's one thing that I've noticed (which is probably the cause) but I don't know how to change it. Inside the "Images Collection Editor" where you choose what images you want for the ImageList control, it looks like it's setting the wrong size for each image. As you can see the "PhysicalDimension" and the "Size" is set to 16x16 and not abled to be manipulated. Does anyone have any ideas? Many thanks!

I think the most convienient way is to send objects like: PrintStream ps = new PrintStream(s.getOutputStream()); ObjectOutputStream oos = new ObjectOutputStream(ps); some_kind_of_object_here; oos.writeObject(some_kind_of_object_here); ps.print(oos); I want to send, strings, numbers, HashMaps, boolean values How can I do this using fx 1 object that can store all that properties? I though about ArrayList that is serializable and we can put there everything but is not elegant way. I want to send different types of data because user can choose from a variety of options that server can do for it. Any advices?
