    Hello, I am trying to replace a string with a new string in a python file and write the new string permanently to it. When I run the below script it removes part of the string and not all of it. The string in the file is: self.id = "027FC8EBC2D1" And the script I have to replace the string is: def edit(): o = open("test.py","r+") #open for line in open("test.py"): line = line.replace("027FC8EBC2D1","NewValue") o.write(line) o.close() edit() Thanks for any help.

    I have the following code, which just print the key/value pairs in a dict (the pairs are sorted by keys): for word, count in sorted(count_words(filename).items()): print word, count However, calling iteritems() instead of items() produces the same output for word, count in sorted(count_words(filename).iteritems()): print word, count Now, which one should I choose in this situation? I consulted the Python tutorial but it doesn't really answer my question.

I'm being presented with a list of dicts as follows: [{'directMember': 'true', 'memberType': 'User', 'memberId': '[email protected]'}, {'directMember': 'true', 'memberType': 'User', 'memberId': '[email protected]'}, {'directMember': 'true', 'memberType': 'User', 'memberId': '[email protected]'}] I would like to generate a simple string of memberIds, such as [email protected], [email protected], [email protected] but every method of converting a list to a string that I have tried fails because dicts are involved. Any advice?

    Hi, I'm not a software expert but need to outsource a web-based scientific GUI application, and I'm considering Adobe Flex. My math routines are currently in Javascript and C/C+. Having no experience with Flex, was hoping someone could help me understand what options are available for performing (preferably fast and efficient) CLIENT-side calculations. That is, can Flex interact with Javascript and/or C easily? If not, is actionscript or other language preferred? Downsides/tradeoffs? Need functions like LOG10, LN, SQRT, and would be nice to also have the error function (ERF) and complementary error function (ERFC), although I may be able to derive these last two from more basic functions if necessary. Thanks!

Nevertheless, as far as I am concerned I would like to set up such a network in the Graphical User Interface (GUI) way. Please avoid solutions with the command line. So a solution suggesting to use Network Manager would be really welcomed. Please name and describe very precisely each step, so I can easily find the equivalent in my own language.     I have a netbook and a server, to both of which I installed the identical Ubuntu 10.04 LTS distribution. On the server, I had the foresight to install and enable the SSH server before disconnecting the monitor and keyboard and mouse. I then ssh'ed in and enabled the VNC server as well. Now I want the full server experience on the netbook, but when I VNC in, I am greeted with the displayed screen. (names have been redacted) How do I start the rest of the default Ubuntu GUI experience? (the toolbars at the top) ((is that the window manager?))

    hello, I'm a python & Qt programmer, and my daily job is create small PC GUI programs ship with hardware devices. the problem is, My job is simple, read/write data to device by using serial port(pyserial), display and edit data(PyQt + PyQwt), that's all. although I'm a linux user, my program is running under windows XP, but thanks to PyQt, I can still develop under linux. And I'm always afraid of being replaced by the people cheaper and younger than me in the future. (I'm 26 now.. not too much time for playing..) So I need improve myself, and make me more competitive in the global market, and I like programming, and want coding till the end of my life. any roadmap suggestion?

  • How to clean launch a GUI app via the Terminal (so it doesn't wait for termination)?

    Some GUI apps launch cleanly via the Terminal command line. Some don't, and they cause the Terminal to wait for the app to terminate. ...and even then, some don't "release" the command line. The mysterious ampersand "&" suffix, seems to cause the terminal to put the process into the background... (but I'm not sure what happens there). Is there a way to launch an app via the Terminal, so that there is no "hang on" effect? ... just like launching something via F2. I'd like to have the command line available again, immediately (without something still in the background and writing out system message in the terminal).

    Hi Guys, I'm using a module in my python app that writes a lot a of messages using the logging module. Initially I was using this in a console application and it was pretty easy to get the logging output to display on the console using a console handler. Now I've developed a GUI version of my app using wxPython and I'd like to display all the logging output to a custom control — a multi-line textCtrl. Is there a way i could create a custom logging handler so i can redirect all the logging output there and display the logging messages wherever/however I want — in this case, a wxPython app. Thanks

    I am working with a QT GUI. I am implementing a simple hex edit control using a QTableView. My initial idea is to use a table with seventeen columns. Each row of the table will have 16 hex bytes and then an ASCII representation of that data in the seventeenth column. Ideally, I would like to edit/set the style of the seventeenth column to have no lines on the top and bottom of each cell to give the text a free flowing appearance. What is the best way to approach this using the QTableView?

    Using geopy to geocode alcohol outlets in NZ. The problem I have is that some places do not have street addresses but are places in Google Maps. For example, plugging: Furneaux Lodge, Endeavour Inlet, Queen Charlotte Sound, Marlborough 7250 into Google Maps via the browser GUI gives me However, using that in Geopy I get a GQueryError saying this geographic location does not exist.     So I wrote a project-management program for a small business using Microsoft Access 2007. Now they've requested lots of additional features (timekeeping, privileged data tiers ...) I personally use Linux, but the whole office uses Windows. I'm relatively new to programming but like to teach myself using projects like this. I'm right on the edge on this -- I can't really tell what the path of least resistance here is: do I stay in access + VBA and teach myself a dying, annoying language -- while struggling against all the limitations of Access? Or do I move to something else? Python seems simple enough ... Whatever I use, i need to be able to offer a GUI.

  • Connect to an existing process

    Hole thing is happening on the mac os x. Let's assume that I've opened an program by clicking on an .app icon. It's a python program with GUI which has a separate process that waits for a user input. But as I've opened it by clickin .app icon I dont have access to it's input as I would have if I opened it in Terminal. And the question is: How can I connect new Terminal window to this running program? I tried pipes but I'm not sure how to use them correctly. My guess was to find PID of the app that is running and then pipe to this program by giving a PID. But I have no idea how to do it. I hope you were able to understand what's the problem. Sorry for my weak english :)

  • How can I load an MP3 or similar music file for display and analysis in wxWidgets?

    I'm developing a GUI in wxPython which allows a user to generate sequences of colours for some toys I'm building. Part of the program needs to load an MP3 (and potentially other formats further down the line) and display it to the user. That should be sufficient to get started but later I'd like to add features like identifying beats and some crude frequency analysis. Is there any simple way of loading / understanding an MP3's contents to display a plot of its amplitudes to the screen using wxWidgets? I later intend to port to C++/wxWidgets for speed and to avoid having to distribute wxPython.

  • Universal syntax file format?

    Hey as a project to improve my programing skills I've begun programing a nice code editor in python to teach myself project management, version control, and gui programming. I was wanting to utilize syntax files made for other programs so I could have a large collection already. I was wondering if there was any kind of universal syntax file format much in the same sense as .odt files. I heard of one once in a forum, it had a website, but I can't remember it now. If not I may just try to use gedit syntax files or geany. thanks
