  • Can I interrupt javascript code and then continue on a keystroke?

    - by Brian Ramsay
    I am porting an old game from C to Javascript. I have run into an issue with display code where I would like to have the main game code call display methods without having to worry about how those status messages are displayed. In the original code, if the message is too long, the program just waits for the player to toggle through the messages with the spacebar and then continues. This doesn't work in javascript, because while I wait for an event, all of the other program code continues. I had thought to use a callback so that further code can execute when the player hits the designated key, but I can't see how that will be viable with a lot of calls to display.update(msg) scattered throughout the code. Can I architect things differently so the event-based, asynchronous model works, or is there some other solution that would allow me to implement a more traditional event loop? Am I making sense? Example: // this is what the original code does, but obviously doesn't work in Javascript display = { update : function(msg) { // if msg is too long // wait for user input // ok, we've got input, continue } }; // this is more javascript-y... display = { update : function(msg, when_finished) { // show part of the message $(document).addEvent('keydown', function(e) { // display the rest of the message when_finished(); }); } }; // but makes for amazingly nasty game code do_something(param, function() { // in case do_something calls display I have to // provide a callback for everything afterwards // this happens next, but what if do_the_next_thing needs to call display? // I have to wait again do_the_next_thing(param, function() { // now I have to do this again, ad infinitum } }

  • Modify the server side functions using jquery

    - by ant
    Hi, I am developing one website using cakephp and jquery technologies. Server-side there are some functions which handles sql queris. As per requirement I want to modify server side functions on client side using jquery AJAX call. E.g. : Below is the function on server side to modify users information. function modifyUser(username,userid) { //update query statements } Then jquery AJAX call will be like this : $.ajax({ url: 'users/modiyUser', success: function() { alert("Updation done") or any statements. } }); and I want to modify above i.e. server side function depending upon client input criteria. $.ajax({ function users/modiyUser(username,userid) { // I will write here any other statements which gives me some other output. } }); Above AJAX call syntax may not present, but i think you all understood what I am trying to do I simply wants to modify/override server side functions on client side. Please let me know is there any way to resolve above mentioned requirement. Thanks in adavance

  • impress.js Navigation with active class

    - by ArtGoddess
    I would like to use impress.js in order to make a website, with a navigation bar. In each slide, the corresponding anchor or div must have an "active" class, in order to achieve a different link appearance. I have followed all instructions provided here: https://github.com/Ralt/impress.js/commit/f88feb8cae704ce27bd2168bdb77768f516ac2da#L2R605 but the "active" class on the correct menu must be added. This is the code that generates the menu items. How can I add for example the "active" class in the first link? /* ************************ MENU ***************************** */ // Capitalize first letter of string // @see http://stackoverflow.com/a/1026087/851498 var capitalize = function( str ) { return str.charAt(0).toUpperCase() + str.slice(1); } // `showMenu` API function creates the menu // It defines the names of each entry by the id capitalized. var showMenu = function() { // Create the menu wrapper and the element that will be cloned // for each entry. var menu = document.createElement('div'), el = document.createElement('div'); // Apply some classes menu.className = 'menu'; el.className = 'menu-item'; // Create an element that will be the "button" and append it // to the menu var button = document.createElement('div'); button.className = 'menu-button'; button.textContent = 'Menu'; menu.appendChild(button); // Now, for each div in #impress, add an entry to the menu [].forEach.call(byId('impress').firstElementChild.children, function( child, index ) { var newEl = el.cloneNode(), i = index + 1, text = i + '. ' + capitalize(child.id); // Set the text of the new element newEl.textContent = text; // Add an onclick event to the new element // We need to use a closure to make sure the index is correct (function( index ) { newEl.addEventListener('click', function() { goto(index); }); }( index )); // And append the new element to the menu menu.appendChild(newEl); }); // And append the menu to #impress document.body.appendChild(menu); }; Then, in each click it must be removed the active class on the current, and add it to the clicked element. // Remove the active class from the current active document.querySelector( '.active' )[ 0 ].classList.remove( 'active' ); // And add it to the clicked index byId('impress').firstElementChild.children[ index ].classList.add( 'active' ); Where do I have to apply this code? Thank you!

  • javascript: execute a bunch of asynchronous method with one callback

    - by Samuel Michelot
    I need to execute a bunch of asynchronous methods (client SQLite database), and call only one final callback. Of course, the ugly way is: execAll : function(callBack) { asynch1(function() { asynch2(function() { ... asynchN(function() { callBack(); }) }) }); } But I know there are better ways to do it. Intuitively I would detect when all call back has been called with a counter to call the final callback. I think this is a common design-pattern, so if someone could point me in the right direction... Thanks in advance !

  • Is it possible that we override global variables?

    - by Ram Moj
    I have this function: function example(y) global TICTOC; tic TICTOC=5; toc end and I expect TICTOC=5 change the result of toc, since TICTOC is a global variable in tic and toc functions; but this is not the case; Does anyone know the reason? I like to know the answer, because I 'm worried to declare a global variable, which it's name has been declared global in some other functions, I'm not aware of. I saw this function in matlab 2008b help function tic % TIC Start a stopwatch timer. % TIC; any stuff; TOC % prints the time required. % See also: TOC, CLOCK. global TICTOC TICTOC = clock; function t = toc % TOC Read the stopwatch timer. % TOC prints the elapsed time since TIC was used. % t = TOC; saves elapsed time in t, does not print. % See also: TIC, ETIME. global TICTOC if nargout < 1 elapsed_time = etime(clock, TICTOC) else t = etime(clock, TICTOC); end thanks.

  • Resolve php endless recursion issue

    - by Matt
    Hey all, I'm currently running into an endless recursion situation. I'm implementing a message service that calls various object methods.. it's quite similar to observer pattern.. Here's whats going on: Dispatcher.php class Dispatcher { ... public function message($name, $method) { // Find the object based on the name $object = $this->findObjectByName($name); // Slight psuedocode.. for ease of example if($this->not_initialized($object)) $object = new $object(); // This is where it locks up. } return $object->$method(); ... } class A { function __construct() { $Dispatcher->message("B", "getName"); } public function getName() { return "Class A"; } } class B { function __construct() { // Assume $Dispatcher is the classes $Dispatcher->message("A", "getName"); } public function getName() { return "Class B"; } } It locks up when neither object is initialized. It just goes back and forth from message each other and no one can be initialized. I'm looking for some kind of queue implementation that will make messages wait for each other.. One where the return values still get set. I'm looking to have as little boilerplate code in class A and class B as possible Any help would be immensely helpful.. Thanks! Matt Mueller

  • jQuery autocomplete works with a local string but not when the same String is called off the server

    - by Ankur
    This is related to the question I asked at http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2802948/how-to-make-an-ajax-call-immediately-on-document-loading My code is: $(document).ready(function(){ $.ajax({ type: "GET", url: "../AutoComplete", success: function(data) { var dataArray = data; alert(dataArray); $("#example").autocomplete(dataArray); } }); }); The value that is printed in the alert is: "Manuscript|Text|Information Object|Basketball|Ball|Sporting Equipment|Tarantula|Spider|Australian Spider|Cricket Player|Medieval Artefact|Person|Sportsperson|Leonardo Da Vinci|Country|Language|Inventor|Priest|Electronics Manufacturer|Object|letter|Artefact|governance model|Organism|Animal".split("|"); If instead I do this: $(document).ready(function(){ $.ajax({ type: "GET", url: "../AutoComplete", success: function(data) { var dataArray = "Manuscript|Text|Information Object|Basketball|Ball|Sporting Equipment|Tarantula|Spider|Australian Spider|Cricket Player|Medieval Artefact|Person|Sportsperson|Leonardo Da Vinci|Country|Language|Inventor|Priest|Electronics Manufacturer|Object|letter|Artefact|governance model|Organism|Animal".split("|"); alert(dataArray); $("#example").autocomplete(dataArray); } }); }); It works fine?

  • Javascript tr click event with newly created rows

    - by yalechen
    I am very new to web development. I am currently using tablesorter jquery plugin to create a dynamic table, where the user can add and delete rows. I am having trouble with changing the background color of newly created rows upon clicking. It works fine with rows that are hard coded in html. Here is the relevant code: $(document).ready( function() { $('table.tablesorter td').click( function (event) { $(this).parent('tr').toggleClass('rowclick'); $(this).parent('tr').siblings().removeClass('rowclick'); }); } ) rowclick is a css class here: table.tablesorter tbody tr.rowclick td { background-color: #8dbdd8; } I have tried adding the following to my javascript function that adds a new row: var createClickHandler = function(newrow) { return function(event) { //alert(newrow.cells[0].childNodes[0].data); newrow.toggleClass('rowclick'); newrow.siblings().removeClass('rowclick'); }; } row.onclick = createClickHandler(row); The alert correctly displays the text in the first column of the row when I click the new row. However, my new rows do not respond to the css class. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance.

  • Exceptions thrown in jQuery AJAX callbacks swallowed?

    - by MikeWyatt
    Is there any way to handle exceptions thrown from AJAX callbacks in jQuery, other than adding a try..catch block to each callback? The error function is not called in this situation. $.ajax( { url: 'myurl.rails', success: function( data ) { throw 'Oh no!'; }, error: function ( xhr, textStatus, errorThrown ) { console.log( 'AJAX call failed', xhr, textStatus, errorThrown ); } } );

  • Disable Internet Explorer 8 Developer Tools

    - by Steve Brouillard
    Is there a way to either disable Internet Explorer 8 Developer Tools, or at least change the shortcut key mapping? I'm working on an ASP.NET AJAX app that has used the F12 key for a function for years (it's actually a hold over from the original DOS app). Customers have used this key for the sam function for nearly 15 years and we'd really like to avoid having to move that function. Cheers

  • Trouble Avoiding Microsoft Outlook's Email Warning

    - by talbright
    I have a set of records in Microsoft Access that I am trying to send in an Email. The email feature works great. Except a warning message pops up every time a message is ready to send, and the user has to click "Allow" or "Deny" for every email sent. I looked up a workaround, and have been following the tutorial for it: http://www.everythingaccess.com/tutorials.asp?ID=Outlook-Send-E-mail-Without-Security-Warning. My problem is that when I put my message in the function it always returns false, and the message fails. Any help would be appreciated. Dim sendMail As Boolean Dim strMessage As String strMessage = Some Message sendMail = FnSafeSendEmail(![Email Id], "Subject", strMessage) The entire "FnSafeSendEmail" function can be found in the link provided. These are the parameters though. Public Function FnSendMailSafe(strTo As String, _ strCC As String, _ strBCC As String, _ strSubject As String, _ strMessageBody As String, _ Optional strAttachments As String) As Boolean The error is thrown on this line of the function. Dim blnSuccessful As Boolean blnSuccessful = objOutlook.FnSendMailSafe(strTo, strCC, strBCC, _ strSubject, strMessageBody, _ strAttachmentPaths)

  • Drupal module permissions

    - by Trevor Newhook
    When I run the code with an admin user, the module returns what it should. However, when I run it with a normal user, I get a 403 error. The module returns data from an AJAX call. I've already tried adding a 'access callback' = 'user_access'); line to the exoticlang_chat_logger_menu() function. I'd appreciate any pointers you might have. • JavaScript in multiple files

    - by vijay.shad
    Hi, I Have created two JavaScript files.One file is "validators.js" and other is "UserValidations.js". Here is the code for validators.js function isBlankString(value) { if (value.replace(/\s/g, "") == "") { return true; } else { return false; } } In other js file I have defined function for validating user name like this. function validateUsername(element) { var username = element.value; if(value.replace(/\s/g, "") == ""){ //nothing to validate return; }else{ //validation logic } } Now as it is obvious i should have used isBlankString(value) method to check string length. But I am clue less about how can i use the function defined in other file?

  • How can I call a method on a custom object created in JavaScript using C#?

    - by just in case
    I have a WebBrowser control. I have added some JavaScript into the head tag and I can see it is working as expected by adding an alert. Inside of this js I am creating a function and adding some members to it's prototype like so: function test() { } test.prototype.run = function() { alert('success!') } function createTest() { return new test() } Then back inside of C# I am doing: dynamic test = this.browser.InvokeScript("createTest"); test.run(); I can see that the test object is some ComObject but when I call run() nothing happens. I get no error but nothing happens. Does anyone know how to call this type of custom object? Also suppose I wanted to get rid of the createTest() method, how can I create a new instance of test from C#? Also, for bonus points, is there anything special I need to know about attaching events to this custom object (on say a 'complete' member) such that it will callback into my C# code?

  • jQuery-driven app. won't work without alert()

    - by webjawns.com
    I have seen a lot of articles on this, but none dealing with jQuery, so here I go... I am implementing a version of a script from http://javascript-array.com/scripts/jquery_simple_drop_down_menu/ into an existing application; however, I cannot get it to work without adding alert('msg...') as the first method within the $(document).ready() call. This has nothing to do with load time... no matter how long I wait, the menu does not work. Add alert(), however, and it works like a charm. var timeout = 500; var closetimer = 0; var ddmenuitem = 0; function jsddm_open() { jsddm_canceltimer(); jsddm_close(); ddmenuitem = $(this).find('ul').css('visibility', 'visible');} function jsddm_close() { if(ddmenuitem) ddmenuitem.css('visibility', 'hidden');} function jsddm_timer() { closetimer = window.setTimeout(jsddm_close, timeout);} function jsddm_canceltimer() { if(closetimer) { window.clearTimeout(closetimer); closetimer = null;}} $(document).ready(function() { $('#jsddm > li').bind('mouseover', jsddm_open) $('#jsddm > li').bind('mouseout', jsddm_timer)}); document.onclick = jsddm_close;

  • Pass dynamic data to mvc controller with AJAX

    - by Yustme
    How can I pass dynamic data with an AJAX call to an MVC Controller? Controller: public JsonResult ApplyFilters(dynamic filters){ return null; } The AJAX call: $(':checkbox').click(function (event) { var serviceIds = $('input[type="checkbox"]:checked').map(function () { return $(this).val(); }).toArray(); //alert(serviceIds); $.ajax({ type: 'GET', url: '/home/ApplyFilters', data: JSON.stringify({ name: serviceIds }), contentType: 'application/json', success: function (data) { alert("succeeded"); }, error: function (err, data) { alert("Error " + err.responseText); } }); //return false; }); Ideally would be that the filters would contain the serviceIds as a property For example like this: filters.ServiceIds. I got another filter for a date range and that one would be added like so: filters.DateRange. And server side get the filter as a dynamic object in the ApplyFilters()

  • passing unicode string from C# exe to C++ DLL

    - by Martin
    Using this function in my C# exe, I try to pass a Unicode string to my C++ DLL: [DllImport("Test.dll", CharSet = CharSet.Unicode, CallingConvention = CallingConvention.StdCall)] public static extern int xSetTestString(StringBuilder xmlSettings); This is the function on the C++ DLL side: __declspec(dllexport) int xSetTestString(char* pSettingsXML); Before calling the function in C#, I do a MessageBox.Show(string) and it displays all characters properly. On the C++ side, I do: OutputDebugStringW((wchar_t*)pString);, but that shows that the non-ASCII characters were replaced by '?'.

  • Efficient calculation of matrix cumulative standard deviation in r

    - by Abiel
    I recently posted this question on the r-help mailing list but got no answers, so I thought I would post it here as well and see if there were any suggestions. I am trying to calculate the cumulative standard deviation of a matrix. I want a function that accepts a matrix and returns a matrix of the same size where output cell (i,j) is set to the standard deviation of input column j between rows 1 and i. NAs should be ignored, unless cell (i,j) of the input matrix itself is NA, in which case cell (i,j) of the output matrix should also be NA. I could not find a built-in function, so I implemented the following code. Unfortunately, this uses a loop that ends up being somewhat slow for large matrices. Is there a faster built-in function or can someone suggest a better approach? cumsd <- function(mat) { retval <- mat*NA for (i in 2:nrow(mat)) retval[i,] <- sd(mat[1:i,], na.rm=T) retval[is.na(mat)] <- NA retval } Thanks.
