  • Is there a way to catch cmd.exe windows into tabs?

    I use an editor that allows me to type in a command to run. In order to see the output without having to redirect it to a file, I precede the command with "cmd /k," which leaves an open cmd.exe window. So I'd like to find a way to move catch the call to cmd.exe and give it to an application that tabifies cmd.exe, a terminal emulator as it's called. The desired result would be similar to what happens in a tabbed editor, when that editor is to open some file, it does so in another tab, and not in another window. While in a given situation it may be easier to modify the command to redirect output to display in the editor itself, in general it would be more helpful if I could find a way to catch all such calls into one window.

    Your web files have special needs because anytime you move or delete a file, it has an effect on other files that are linked to it. So, Dreamweaver also has file management tasks related to the web development environment. Dreamweaver keeps a record of all the links on your site. (Remember that the code for a photo is also a link.) Then when you move, Dreamweaver will ask if you want to update the other pages that link to that file. If you delete a file, Dreamweaver will warn you, if there are other pages using that file. Dreamweaver is actually a package of programs and one of them does the file management tasks.

  • Windows 7 Task bar + Chrome tab Issue

    When you have say more then one file or something open or window (not tabs), the windows 7 task bar combines or stacks them on top of each other. Well my chrome started to do that with tabs. It looks like I have more then one chrome window open, but its just tabs all in one window. So when I click on the stacked chrome on my task bar it shows a preview of each tab and then goes to that tab. I would much rather have it be one chrome icon rather then stacked and then I can select my tab. The preview for the many tabs I have open is annoying me. I know this has to be something I accidental turned on because it did not do this before nor does it do it on my other computers. Thank you.

  • Maximum filename length shorter in search windows than same file in original folder

    Why can a mp3 file-name be 165 characters long in its original folder, but when searching that folder, the search results window only allows editing of the first 130 characters of that same mp3 filename? This did not happen in XP! The problem occurs with both local and external drives. The act of searching doesn't somehow add to the file-name's path does it? I need to edit filenames in the search window (as I did with XP successfully) but now the search window results suddenly cannot be edited.

  • Resize windows command line prompt?

    I'm working on a Windows xp machine. I wrote a program in assembly that outputs some text, and am trying to create a screenshot of the command line output (start-run-"cmd"). The problem is that the text initially printed by the program gets pushed up by later text and I cannot scroll to it. I tried playing around with the width and height under properties = layout but it seems to resize the window itself (the borders) without resizing the textarea inside the window (text does not have more "room", but the window is bigger). Does anybody know a workaround/solution for this? Thank you!

  • How do I know I'm running inside a linux "screen" or not?

    The "screen" refers to a program mentioned in How to reconnect to a disconnected ssh session . That is a good facility. But there is a question I'd really like to know. How do I know whether I'm running inside a "screen"? The difference is: If yes, I know I can safely close current terminal window, e.g., close a PuTTY window, without losing my shell(Bash etc) session. If no, I know I have to take care of any pending works before I close the terminal window. Better, I'd like this status to be displayed in PS1 prompt so that I can see it any time automatically.

  • Why can't my Wifi cannot connect or disconnect?

    Wifi connection might drop spontaneously or simply cannot connect. Users on Ubuntu 10.04 and 11.04 have reported experiencing the problem. Running dmesg would show: [210749.637705] wlan0: deauthenticating from 00:23:89:48:3b:b0 by local choice (reason=3) [210778.632244] wlan0: deauthenticating from 00:23:89:48:3b:b0 by local choice (reason=3) [210784.456359] wlan0: deauthenticating from 00:23:89:82:75:70 by local choice (reason=3) which is pretty cryptic. I have tried: kill -9 wpa_supplicant, but wpa_supplicant keeps getting restarted each time. Also, some have suggested that this was caused by enabling power management. However, this might not be true, as the problem has presented itself in a situation where power management was disabled.

  • Disposing of ContentManager increases memory usage

    I'm trying to wrap my head around how memory management works in XNA 4.0 I've created a screen management test and when I close a screen, the ContentManager created by that screen is unloaded. I have used ANTS Memory Manager to look at how the memory usage is altered when I do this, and it gives me some results which makes me scratch my head. The game starts with loading two textures (435kB and 48,3kB) which puts the usage at about 61MB. Then, when I delete the screen and runs Unload on the ContentManager, the memory usage drops to 56,5MB but instantly after goes up to 64,8MB. Am I doing something wrong or is this usual for XNA games? Do I have to dispose of everything the ContentManager loads seperatly or do I need to do something more to the ContentManager?   • Should I be worrying about limiting the number of textures in my game?

    I am working on a GUI in XNA 4.0 at the moment. (Before you point out that there are many GUIs already in existance, this is as much a learning exercise as a practical project). As you may know, controls and dialogs in Windows actually consist of a number of system-level windows. For instance, a dialog box may consist of a window for the whole dialog, a child window for the client area, another window (barely showing) for the frame, and so on. This makes detecting mouse hits and doing clipping relatively easy. I'd like to design my XNA GUI along the same lines, but using overlapping Textures instead of windows obviously. My question (yes, there's actually a question in this drivel) is: am I at risk of adversely affecting game performance and/or running low in resources if I get too nuts with the creating of many small textures? I haven't been able to find much information on how resource-tight the XNA environment actually is. I grew up in the days of 64K ram so I'm used to obsessing about resources and optimization. Anyway, any feedback appreciated.

  • Oracle Data Protection: How Do You Measure Up? - Part 1

    This is the first installment in a blog series, which examines the results of a recent database protection survey conducted by Database Trends and Applications (DBTA) Magazine. All Oracle IT professionals know that a sound, well-tested backup and recovery strategy plays a foundational role in protecting their Oracle database investments, which in many cases, represent the lifeblood of business operations. But just how common are the data protection strategies used and the challenges faced across various enterprises? In January 2014, Database Trends and Applications Magazine (DBTA), in partnership with Oracle, released the results of its “Oracle Database Management and Data Protection Survey”. Two hundred Oracle IT professionals were interviewed on various aspects of their database backup and recovery strategies, in order to identify the top organizational and operational challenges for protecting Oracle assets. Here are some of the key findings from the survey: The majority of respondents manage backups for tens to hundreds of databases, representing total data volume of 5 to 50TB (14% manage 50 to 200 TB and some up to 5 PB or more). About half of the respondents (48%) use HA technologies such as RAC, Data Guard, or storage mirroring, however these technologies are deployed on only 25% of their databases (or less). This indicates that backups are still the predominant method for database protection among enterprises. Weekly full and daily incremental backups to disk were the most popular strategy, used by 27% of respondents, followed by daily full backups, which are used by 17%. Interestingly, over half of the respondents reported that 10% or less of their databases undergo regular backup testing.  A few key backup and recovery challenges resonated across many of the respondents: Poor performance and impact on productivity (see Figure 1) 38% of respondents indicated that backups are too slow, resulting in prolonged backup windows. In a similar vein, 23% complained that backups degrade the performance of production systems. Lack of continuous protection (see Figure 2) 35% revealed that less than 5% of Oracle data is protected in real-time.  Management complexity 25% stated that recovery operations are too complex. (see Figure 1)  31% reported that backups need constant management. (see Figure 1) 45% changed their backup tools as a result of growing data volumes, while 29% changed tools due to the complexity of the tools themselves.   • ORA-00900 Super Easy Fix (for some cases)

    Here is a really easy fix for some ORA-00900 errors. Well at least the one I saw the other day. This was something that I did not come across when searching either. I found lots of other ideas on what the problem might be but not the fix. Since I am fairly new to PL/SQL (TSQL only for a long time) this one stumped me for a while. Until I asked someone and they saw the error in about two seconds. When using the Command Window to add a view I was receiving an ORA-00900 error. So I checked that everything the view was referencing was there and that the permissions looked OK. The code for the view was fairly simple and it ran just fine in a regular SQL Window. It ended up that the Command Window did not like the space I had between the list of items in the select before the from. Bad: col1,col2,                               <--- does not like the empty linefrom tblSomething Good: col1,col2,from tblSomething I will just chalk that up to my familiarity with PL/SQL.
