  • How can I force Javascript garbage collection in IE? IE is acting very slow after AJAX calls & DOM

    I have a page with chained drop-downs. Choosing an option from the first select populates the second, and choosing an option from the second select returns a table of matching results using the innerHtml function on an empty div on the page. The problem is, once I've made my selections and a considerable amount of data is brought onto the page, all subsequent Javascript on the page runs exceptionally slowly. It seems as if all the data I pulled back via AJAX to populate the div is still hogging a lot of memory. I tried setting the return object which contains the AJAX results to null after calling innerHtml but with no luck. Firefox, Safari, Chrome and Opera all show no performance degradation when I use Javascript to insert a lot of data into the DOM, but in IE it is very apparent. To test that it's a Javascript/DOM issue rather than a plain old IE issue, I created a version of the page that returns all the results on the initial load, rather than via AJAX/Javascript, and found IE had no performance problems. FYI, I'm using jQuery's jQuery.get method to execute the AJAX call.   • asp.net mvc ajax helper/post additional data w/o jquery.

    I would like to use the ajax helper to create ajax requests that send additional, dynamic data with the post (for example, get the last element with class = blogCommentDateTime and send the value of that last one to the controller which will return only blog comments after it). I have successfully done so with the help of jQuery Form plugin like so: $(document).ready(function () { $("#addCommentForm").submit(function () { var lastCommentDate = $(".CommentDateHidden:last").val(); var lastCommentData = { lastCommentDateTicks: lastCommentDate }; var formSubmitParams = { data: lastCommentData, success: AddCommentResponseHandler } $("#addCommentForm").ajaxSubmit(formSubmitParams); return false; }); This form was created with html.beginform() method. I am wondering if there is an easy way to do this using the ajax.beginform() helper? When I try to use the same code but replace html.beginform() with ajax.beginform(), when i try to submit the form, I am issuing 2 posts (which is understandable, one being taken care of by the helper, the other one by me with the JS above. I can't create 2 requests, so this option is out) I tried getting rid of the return false and changing ajaxSubmit() to ajaxForm() so that it would only "prepare" the form, and this leads in only one post, but it does not include the extra parameter that I defined, so this is worthless as well. I then tried keeping the ajaxForm() but calling that whenever the submit button on the form gets clicked rather than when the form gets submitted (I guess this is almost the same thing) and that results in 2 posts also. The biggest reason I am asking this question is that I have run in to some issues with the javascript above and using mvc validation provided by the mvc framework (which i will set up another question for) and would like to know this so I can dive further in to my validation issue.

  • "render as JSON" is display JSON as text instead of returning it to AJAX call as expected

    I'm navigating to the index action of MyController. Some of the on the index page I'm making an AJAX call back to myAction in MyController. I expect myAction action to return some data as JSON to my AJAX call so I can do something with the data client side, but instead of returning the data as JSON like I want, the data is being displayed as text. Example of my Grails controller: class MyController { def index() { render( view: "myView" ) } def myAction { def mapOfStuff = [ "foo": "foo", "bar":] render mapOfStuff as JSON } } Example of my JavaScript: $( function() { function callMyAction() { $.ajax({ dataType: 'json', url: base_url + '/myController/myAction', success: function( data ) { $(function() { if( data.foo ) { alert( data.foo ); } if( data.bar ) { alert( data.bar ); } }); } }); } }); What I expect is that my page will render, then my JavaScript will be called, then two alerts will display. Instead the JSON array is displayed as text in my browser window: {"foo":"foo","bar":"bar"} At this point the last segment of the URL in my address bar is myAction and not index. Now if I manually enter the URL of the index page and press refresh, all works as expected. I have half a dozen AJAX calls I do the exact same way and none of them are having problems. What is the deal here? UPDATE: I have noticed something. When I set a break point in the index action of MyController and another one in the myAction action, the break point in myAction gets hit BEFORE the break point in index, even though I am navigating to the index. This is obviously closer to the root cause of my problem, but why is it happening?

  • In WPF, how do I get a command in a Control Template to bind to a property in a parent?

    I am relatively new to WPF and sometimes it makes my head explode. However, I do like the power behind it, especially when used with the MVVM model. I have a control template that contains a button. I use that control template inside of a custom control. I want to add a property on the custom control that will bind to the command property of the button inside the control template. Basically, it is a combo box with a button to the right of it to allow a user to pop up a search dialog. Since this control could appear on a usercontrol multiple times, I need to be able to potentially bind each control to a different command (Searh products, search customers, etc). Once I managed to lose my wired connection as well and had to reinstall. I don't care about putting too many constraints on him, though I wouldn't mind isolating the site that he'll be developing from other sites on the server that I will develop. The problem: retain control Mainly what I want is to make sure that I retain control over the server in the future. I want to reserve the ability to create/promote/demote and other administrative functions that don't deal with web software. If I make him an admin, he can sudo su - and become root and remove root control from me, for example. I need him not to be able to: take away other admin permissions change the root password have control over other security/administrative functions I would like him to still be able to: install software (through apt-get) restart apache access mysql configure mysql/apache reboot edit web development configuration type files in /etc/ Other Standard Setups would be happily considered I've never really set up a good sudoers file, so simple example setups would be very useful, even if they're only somewhat similar to the settings that I'm hoping for above. Edit: I have not yet finalized permissions, standard, useful sudo setups are certainly an option, the lists above are more what I'm hoping I can do, I don't know that that setup can be done.

  • How can I sort a DataGridTemplateColumn on a WPF Toolkit DataGrid?

    I have a WPF Toolkit DataGrid with one DataGridTemplateColumn. I've specified in a grid attribute that I wish all columns to be sortable, but the DataGridTemplateColumn won't allow it. All other columns do allow sorting. I've even tried explicitly setting CanUserSort to true for that column, but no luck. Is it even possible to sort a template column?   • Winforms TabControl causing spurious Paint events for UserControl

    For our project, we've written a WinForms UserControl for graphing. We're seeing some strange behavior when our control is sited in a TabControl - our control continuously fires Paint events, even when there is absolutely no activity by the user. We only see this in the TabControl. When we site our control in other containers such as Forms or Splitters, Paint is only fired when you'd expect e.g. when the control is first displayed, etc. Can anyone suggest why this might be happening? Here's a stack trace from a breakpoint in our control's Paint handler, if that's any help.     My application works just fine until, in some unidentified conditions, it begins throwing this errors: When these errors start appearing, they appear in all over the application, no matter the code is built using ObjectDataSource or SqlDataSource.   • Is it possible to do AJAX calls in a liquid template?

    I'm looking at the liquid templating language for Rails apps: http://wiki.github.com/tobi/liquid/ I'd like my users to also be able to make AJAX calls (just like the ones in rails for periodically_call_remote, observe_field, etc). Is this possible? Assuming the rails helpers can be added as filters, how will the user be able to modify what gets returned by the AJAX call? They cannot modify an rjs file on the server or anything like that. I suppose the AJAX call could return JSON (instead of rendered html) and then the javascript could use that to render something. But I'm having a little trouble envisioning how it would work exactly. If anyone can point me to an example of this or clarify it'd be much appreciated. Thanks!

    How to add sort function for the table via ajax in ASP.NET MVC?What is the best practice. If not use Ajax, it maybe much easier, just return View, but if use AJAX, what data structure should return?I just use Json to return the data, but i found each JSON data model return to the client browser, the JS have to use different code to parse it, remove the originally table rows, add the new data rows(because the column is different) etc. It make me crazy, is there any better way to do that? Thank you for any advice.

  • Cache an FTP connection via session variables for use via AJAX?

    I'm working on a Ruby web Application that uses the Net::FTP library. One part of it allows users to interact with an FTP site via AJAX. When the user does something, and AJAX call is made, and then Ruby reconnects to the FTP server, performs an action, and outputs information. Every time the AJAX call is made, Ruby has to reconnect to the FTP server, and that's slow. Is there a way I could cache this FTP connection? I've tried caching in the session hash, but "We're sorry, but something went wrong" is displayed, and a TCP dump is outputted in my logs whenever I attempt to store it in the session hash. I haven't tried memcache yet. Any suggestions?

    I am creating a JavaScript class. Some of the methods contain AJAX calls using JQuery. The problem I am comming accross is that I cannot use the this keyword within the AJAX callbacks due to a change in scope. I have come up with a hackey solution, but I am wondering what is the best practice way around this?
