• confusion about transactions and msdtc

  I have some basic confusion about how transactions and msdtc work together. I have a basic server/client winforms app. The app uses transactionscope to encapsulate several sql commands that are executed on the sql server. The app seemed to work fine when I enabled msdtc network access on the server only. Then one day it stopped working saying network access was not enabled. Now it seems that I have to enable msdtc network access on both the client computer and server for transactionscope to work. Does the client or server msdtc service do the transaction work? Or maybe its both? Does anyone have guidance on whether msdtc network access is needed on both client and server or just server?

• How to write a linter?

  In my day job I, and others on my team write a lot of hardware models in Verilog-AMS, a language supported primarily by commercial vendors and a few opensource simulator projects. One thing that would make supporting each others code more helpful would be a LINTER that would check our code for common problems and assist with enforcing a shared code formatting style. I of course want to be able to add my own rules and, after I prove their utility to myself, promote them to the rest of the team.. I don't mind doing the work that has to be done, but of course also want to leverage the work of other existing projects. Does having the allowed language syntax in a yacc or bison format give me a leg up? or should I just suck each language statement into a perl string, and use pattern matching to find the things I don't like? (most syntax and compilation errors are easily caught by the commercial tools.. but we have some of our own extentions.)

  Good day, I've got a simple CSS question. I'm trying to change a table into a CSS box, but aligning the table content is difficult to me right now. Below there's an example of what's inside of the css box i created. How can I align these three elements (calendar and icon to the left , a text link to the center, and the other date field to the right ?) correctly ? I've tried several things but the problem is getting it aligned properly. I want to change everything in this application that has been created with tables, to css. And I've been an 80% succesful so far. I'd like to see some easy to understand code, to see how I can apply it on my code. Thank you for your kind help. I might be burned out due to stress. • prevent bots to query my database several times

  Hi all, I'm building an application that is a kind of registry. Think about the dictionary: you lookup for a word and it return something if the word is founded. Now, that registry is going to store valuable informations about companies, and some could be tempted to get the complete listing. My application use EJB 3.0 that replies to WS. So I was thinking about permits a maximum of 10 query per IP address per day. Storing the IP address and a counter on a table that would be empty by a script every night. Is it a good idea/practice to do so? If yes, how can I get the IP address on the EJB side? Is there a better way to prevent something to get all the data from my database? I've also though about CAPTCHA but I think it's a pain for the user, and sometime, they are difficult to read even for real human. Hope it's all clear since I'm not english... Thanks Alain

  How can I filter my results in a Query? example I have 5 Records John,Smith,apple Jane,Doe,apple Fred,James,apple Bill,evans,orange Willma,Jones,grape Now I want a query that would bring me back 3 records with the DISTINCT FRUIT, BUT... and here is the tricky part, I still want the columns for First Name , Last Name. PS I do not care which of the 3 it returns mind you, but I need it to only return 3 (or what ever how many DISTINCT fruit there are. ex return would be John,Smith,apple Bill,evans,orange Willma,Jones,grape Thanks in advance I've been banging my head on this all day.

  Hi I am trying to parse a HTML page using the Simple HTML DOM Parser. This HTML page doesn't make use of IDs which makes it harder to refer to elements. On this page I am trying to get the Album name, Song title, download link and the album image. • How do I regenerate statistics in Openx?

  ue to faulty hardware, statistics generated over a 2 week period were significantly higher than normal (10000 times higher than normal). After moving the application to a new server, the problem rectified itself. The issue I have is that there are 2 weeks of stats that are clearly wrong. I have checked the raw impressions table for the affected fortnight and it seems to be correct (ie. stats per banner per day match the average for the previous month). Looking at the intermediate & summary impressions tables, the values are inflated. I understand from the openx forum (http://forum.openx.org/index.php?s=7796fd9dae40e020a010773746f3ada9&showtopic=503424297) it's possible to regenerate stats from the raw data but it will only regenerate stats per hour, meaning regenerating stats for 2 weeks would be very time consuming. Is there another, more efficient way to regenerate the stats from the raw data for the affected fortnight?

  Good day, I have been using Rails/Mysql for the past while but I have been hearing about Cassandra, MongoDB, CouchDB and other document-store DB/Non-relational databases. I'm planning to explore them later as they might be better alternative for scalability. I'm planning to start an application soon. Will it make a different with Rails design if I move from relational to non-relational database? I know Rails migrations are database-agnostic but wasn't sure if moving to non-relational will make difference with design or not.

• Getting Tap/Touch Position when selecting a TableView cell

  Hi, hope to get some help here because this is something that really makes me mad... I have a view with a tableView, and when I tap a cell I want to present a popOver window pointing the arrow to the cell I tapped. the things that I think I need is: 1- the position of the cell in the screen (not in the view, because on large tables the Y value of the cell's rect could be grater than screen hight) or 2- a CGPoint or something similar that represents the point in the screen I tapped. I can't figured this out, and makes me really mad!!! Any help will very very very very usefull. Have a nice day.

I just wanted to keep the same format of the original String date and make it into a Date object. I'm using Netbeans 6.8 Mac version.

• System.Net.WebProxy in .NET Client

  I don't yet have a good understanding of how the network is set up at my current client, but here is my issue. The vendor has a normal URL, but it might be a leased line. I have a .NET program that calls an external .asmx service. If I go to IE, Connections, LAN Settings, and uncheck "Automatic detect settings" and uncheck "Use Automatic Configuration Sript", then the .NET program runs and access the web service fine. But then, to access internet again from the browser, I have to re-check the two boxes, and so on throughout the day while we are testing and browsing. I'm hoping to put some code like this in the .NET program to avoid us having to constantly change: if (chkUseProxy.Checked) { myclient.Proxy = new System.Net.WebProxy(""); } I tried null and empty string and so far not able to connect without errors. Is this possible, and if so, what might be the correct parms for the constructor? Or are there other objects or properties that would need to be set? Thanks, Neal Walters

• enable profiler / Traceon after SQL server restart automatically

  hi, My client is facing some deadlocks while using our application. I want to track all the deadlocks for my research and to solve the deadlocks. i am currently run the SQL profiler for the event deadlock graph to capture the deadlock scenario. the actual problem is that the SQL server gets restarted every day at 2 am, and the profiler stops capturing the events after the restart. by the time i come to office at start the profiler at say 10 am, there could be deadlocks which i could have missed between 2 am and 10 am. so i am looking for a way so i can capture the deadlocks without me starting manually. i thought i could use TRACEON(1204,-1) so that the deadlock events get captured in the SQL Server error logs. But i found that the TRACE capturing too gets disabled after the restart. Is there a way i can capture the deadlocks either by SQL profiler or by using TRACEON without me manually starting the capturing? Nikhil

• Font Times New Roman 11,25 Regular is not supported in telerik reporting.

  Hi all.. I'm having some trouble exporting to PDF in Telerik Reporting Q2 2008. It seems that for some reason, exporting to PDF ( or printing, which is the same, it first exports to PDF, and then prints ), is giving me this error. First it started with Arial, I found the bug with the font Arial, replaced the textbox with Times New Roman, and it keeps on giving me this error. The strange thing, is that this only happens on the production server ( Windows Server 2008 ), on my development machine, this works flawlessly, I even tried to copy the fonts from my windows font folder, to my production server, but that didn't help anything... Does someone know what is happening? EDIT: Problem solved...a server reboot solved the problem instantly, unfortunately at the time I posted this question I couldn't do a server restart, later that day ( at night ) my boss restarted the server and all was good again.. • Updated iphone application not live yet

  Hi All, 3 weeks back we uploaded an application on the iTunes(V1.0). On Thursday we updated that application with new build (V1.2). I clicked the "Update" button on itunesconnect.apple.com and followed uploaded the new binary and new contents. On the next day the Description and price tag are updated successfully, but the build version number and screens shots are still from the previous version. And the amazing thing we noticed is that application status is "Waiting for Review" from last 2 days... :( I tried to play with release date, but still application status is "Waiting for Review". Its been 2 days that there is no activity happening from apple... :( Please help me in this scenario..... Thanks in advance. Regards, Vishal.

I tried different values for format (mm,%m) but all these gives the same output.

• Where is the .cod file placed when the BlackBerry Widget is built from Eclipse?

  I am experimenting with various mobile platforms, and this is my first day with BB. I am using Web Plug in 2.0.0 with SDK 1.0.0. As I am trying to run one of the samples in the simulator (5.0.0.469, Storem 2 9550) When I run the BB widget, I got the following in the eclipse console, but I could not find the .cod file to be loaded to the simulator. Please help!! • VCL/Delphi/BCB - which IDE/language should I use?

  I bought Delphi 1 when it came out - and was hooked. When BCB came out (around D3, iirc), I switched, mainly because I have used C/C++ professionally for a few decades. I have "been away" for 7 or 8 years and am now returning. I still have BCB 6 & Delphi 7 (not to mention Kylix). I always felt more comfortable with C++ than Pascal - purely because of work-day familiarity. But, realistically, iirc, most 3rd party VCL components are coded in Delphi/Pascal. And I think I used to have problems debugging Delphi components from BCB, but I could well remember wrongly. Anyhoo, now I am back and intend to use VCL components / hack the code of same / debug them & code a few of my own. Given that I am slightly more comfortable with C++, is there any compelling reason to choose Delphi over BCB, or is this just a case of how long my particular piece of string is?

• How can HTML5 "replace" Flash?

  A topic of debate that's seen a resurgence since the unveiling of the iPad is the issue of Flash versus HTML5. There are those that suggest that HTML5 will one day supplant/replace Adobe Flash. I do not develop software that runs in a browser, so my (limited) understanding is: HTML is a pure-text markup language that is delivered over HTTP to a client browser. The client browser interprets the markup and renders (with varying degrees of success) the page according to an standard specification. Adobe Flash is a propriety framework for working with audio, video, sound and raster/vector graphics. It requires special authoring tools (a compiler perhaps?) and a custom player that's available as a plug-in to most common browsers. Could someone please explain (to this C/C++ developer) how it is possible from a technical/coding point-of-view that a text-based markup language (HTML5) could be considered a replacement to a multimedia framework (Flash)? Please no opinionated arguments - just technical facts.

The whole tree can be expressed using only one this class. I can implement this Iterators as separate classes but doing so I need that tree node should expose it's children collection as public. • How can I switch timezones in Perl's Template::Plugin::Date?

  I have a calendar on my website, generated in Perl using Template::Toolkit and Template::Plugin::Date. It highlights the current day. I achieve this by iterating through all the dates (as I print the calendar) and comparing against the current date. Something like this: [% IF cur_date == date.format(format = '%Y-%m-%d') %] ... [% END %] It all works well until someone in Australia looks at it. (They are in a different timezone to me and my server in the UK). What's the best way to get Template::Plugin::Date to use a different time zone? It accepts a 'locale' parameter, but AFAIK this is only used for formatting.

• Using Django Admin for a custom database solution

  A client wants to have a simple intranet application to manage his process. He runs a Quarry and wishes to track number of loads delivered per day and associated activities. Since I knew about Django's excellent Admin interface, I figured I could define the "Schema" in models.py and have Django Admin generate the forms. I did exactly that and the result is not bad at all. I've been able to customize the look and feel to suit the client's taste. Some questions: Is Django Admin the right choice for such a use-case? Will I run to problems in the future due to flexibility of the framework? Is there a better framework out there specifically designed for this use-case (general Database management for small businesses)? I prefer ones written in Python since I can hack it up to customize. • Virtualizing WindowsXP on Linux Fedora 12 for Photoshop....

  I am running a Linux server from 2000, I have Fedora12 installed as the OS. I know you can virtualize Windows XP on the system to be able to run Windows programs, but the problem is I My server has only one 1333Mhz Pentium 3 processor and 1G of Ram. granted this is a pretty kick ass computer for the day, but lacking the processor I'm afraid that I will not be able to run Windows virtualization to support Photoshop CS3. Is there any program out there that runs similar to Photoshop, like windows Digital Image suite 10, that will run smoothly in my Linux Fedora 12 environment? or can I virtualize windows and run the Windows digital image suite 10, without slowing or corrupting my system?
