Using NSURLRequest+NSURLConnection seems overkill for a webcall with no data return

All, This might seems very straightforward but I have already gone through the URL loading system program guide and the various NSURL.... classes and not found my answer. I am just trying to do a simple call from the app to a website to reserve a party spot: NSString *path=[NSString stringWithFormat:@"http://www.myparty123.com/ireservedURL.asp?Nickname=%@&Seat=%i&Email=%@&Currentparty=%i",john,5432,[email protected],6598]; NSURL* reservationURL =[NSURL URLWithString:path]; NSData *call= [NSData dataWithContentsOfURL:reservationURL]; This seemed to be the simple way but I get this warning that I am not using the "call" variable. And it seems overkill to do a call using NSData where there is no data return. Yet, creating an NSURLRequest and initiating an NSURLConnection and then implementing delegates with that request seems to be overkill as well. What am I missing. Thanks KMB

What SQL is being sent from a SqlCommand object

I have a SqlCommand object on my c# based asp.net page. The SQL and the passed parameters are working the majority of the time. I have one case that is not working, I get the following error: String or binary data would be truncated. The statement has been terminated. I understand the error and but all the columns in the database should be long enough to hold everything being sent. My questions, Is there a way to see what the actual SQL being sent to the database is from SqlCommand object? I would like to be able to email the SQL when an error occurs. Thanks, Justin

I have then created another masterpage with some styling and created a aspx page based on that masterpage. How can I attach the validation framework to textboxes within my page? How to build an easy Rails authentication with OpenID and OAuth1.0a-2.0?

Hi, I'am looking for an easy authentication for my users mostly via facebook, but keeping OpenID and other OAuth alternatives as well. For the case if something will go very bad, I will ask my users to optionally provide their email address, which should be obtained via OpenID or OAuth if possible. The same thing is about their name. I am a newbie in Rails, so I started with Railscasts.com #160 (authlogic) and #170 (authlogic and OpenID), however, I had some problems trying to sign in with my Google Account. As I understand, it will take some effort to adjust #170 for my objectives. On the other hand, there is gem authlogic_rpx which will possibly provide me the needed functionality (see http://rails-authlogic-rpx-sample.heroku.com/signin). What would you do? Is it reasonable to put one more step (RPX) in the authentication logic?

Is there a lightweight multipart/form-data parser in C or C++?

I'm looking at integrating multipart form-data parsing in a web server module so that I can relieve backend web applications (often written in dynamic languages) from parsing the multipart data themselves. The multipart grammar (RFC 2046) looks non-trivial and if I implement it by hand a lot of things can go wrong. Is there already a good, lightweight multipart/form-data parser written in C or C++? I'm looking for one with no external dependencies other than the C or C++ standard library. I don't need email attachment handling or buffered I/O classes or a portability runtime or whatever, just multipart/form-data parsing. Things that I've considered: GMime - depends on glib, so no go. libapreq - too large, depends on APR, badly documented, no unit tests. I've also looked at writing a parser with Ragel, but I can't figure out how to do it because the grammar is not static: the boundary can change arbitrarily.

Any form autofill for 'Developers'?

Hi all, I have looked at some autofills for Firefox. But they are not designed with the developers' needs in mind. General internet surfers will need a tool to fill in many different forms with constant values for each form. Developers need exactly the opposite, when you want to test a part of your app you'll need to fill a single (or a couple of) forms many times with different (but valid and sensible) data. So, does such a thing exist? An autofill to fill form inputs based on perhaps a class name (email, password, address, url, ...)? I strongly feel if it doesn't exist someone should roll up their sleeves and make one! I for one will put in my share if some others want to team up. But right now, I am desperately in need of one if it exists

PHP PDO close()?

Can someone tell me, when you for example update, insert, delete.. should you then close it like $stmt->close(); ? i checked php manual and don't understand what close() actually does. EXAMPLE: $stmt = $dbh->prepare("SELECT `user_email` FROM `users` WHERE `user_email` = ? LIMIT 1"); $stmt->execute(array($email)); $stmt->close(); Next part of my question is, if as an example i had multiple update queries in a transaction after every execute() for each query i am executing should i close them individually ? ... because it's a transaction not sure i need to use $stmt->close(); after each execute(); or just use one $stmt->close(); after all of them ? For Example: User input 2:00pm Eastern Time on my server I have different time zone, how to calculate the time and send the email at users time-zone. Its a web application. Catching Oracle Errors in Django

My Django app runs on an Oracle database. A few times a year, the database is unavailable because of a scheduled process or unplanned downtime. However, I can't see how to catch the error a give a useful message back to the requester. Instead, a 500 error is triggered, and I get an email (or hundreds) showing the exception. One example is: File "/opt/UDO/env/events/lib/python2.6/site-packages/django/db/backends/oracle/base.py", line 447, in _cursor self.connection = Database.connect(conn_string, **conn_params) DatabaseError: ORA-01035: ORACLE only available to users with RESTRICTED SESSION privilege I see a similar error with a different ORA number when the DB is down. Because the exception is thrown deep within the Django libraries, and can be triggered by any of my views or the built in admin views, I don't know where any exception trapping code would go. Any suggestions?

What CPAN module can summarize Perl error logs?

I'm maintaining some website code that will soon dump all its errors and warnings into a log file. In order to make this a bit more pro-active I plan to parse this log file daily, summarize the warnings and errors (i.e. count the occurrence of each specific one and group by either warning/error) and then email this to the devs on the project. This would likely admittedly be rather trivial with a hash and some further fiddling, I wondered if there is a suitable module on CPAN that I could use to do this task. It would either be one that summarizes specifically Perl error/warnings logs or one that summarizes arbitrary text files. Any suggestions?

Using SalesForce's Web Service to create and set the type of a Task

I am successfully creating a Task using the SalesForce API SOAP API through Java. However, my problem is that I can't seem to set the Type of it. They all default to "Call" but I really want them to be "Email". Can someone point me in the direction of where I can do this? I think it is to do with RecordTypeMapping, but i am somewhat confused as to how to use this in my Java code to look up the particular one for Task type. I feel I have got so close with this. I have the correct WSDL that is giving me the extra method on the Task.java class, but no matter what I pass in, it dies. This doesn't seem to be a huge ask, yet i am perplexed as to which dots to join to get it to work Any help would be appreciated. thanks

Why ????? is displayed instead of non-english characters?

I first created a simple HTML page that uses UTF-8 as its character encoding. Then I moved the HTML content as a view in codeigniter and it was still ok (I had used non-english characters that were ok as always) I added a simple dynamic functionality (there is a contact us form in it that emails users feedback to site admin). Please note that the characters were ok at localhost (which is a LAMP server running on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS) Strange is that when I uploaded the app to server, all persian characters are shown as ???? (For example ??? (which means Name) is shown ??? and so so...) I have not even connected to mysql or any other DBMS. It's the only page in the website (it's more an under construction page) and nothing else has been used in it. Maybe I should state that I have also used session library to thank the user after his feedback was sent to admins, nothing else. I have really no idea about the problem. UPDATE Now I can see that the problem is only with cPanel. On Directadmin I can see that everything is normal. Both Chromium and Firefox DO use UTF-8 as page's character encoding. URL is http://WEBSITE.COM/dmf/dynamic/ (dmf is the abbreviation of the project name!). There is nothing non-english in the URL. How to pre-check checkboxes in formtastic

I have a form I'm trying to set up ... Users can have many posts, and each post can have many people watching it. The Watch model is set up polymorphically as 'watchable' so it can apply to different types of models. It has a user_id, watchable_id, watchable_type and timestamps as attributes/fields. This is soley so that when people comment on a post, users watching the post can get an email about it. What I'm trying to do is show the user a list of users that they can tag on each post, which is not problem. This is what I'm using right now http://pastie.org/940421 The problem with this, is that when you go to edit an update/post ... all the checkboxes are prechecked ... I want it to pre-check only users who are currently watching the post.

How do I get Facebook Connect to alert me when people comment on my blog?

I'm using Facebook Connect's "Comments Box" (http://wiki.developers.facebook.com/index.php/Comments_Box) to handle comments on my blog. However, there doesn't appear to be an easy way to find out when people comment - ideally I'd like to receive an email whenever it happens, but I'd settle for an RSS feed or similar. Is there an easy way to set this up? Officially as an admin you can enable "notifications" but these are just the passive things that show up when you log on to Facebook itself - I rarely do this, and anyway it doesn't seem to work for anonymous comments.

Most Rails-y way to give different views of the same resource?

In Rails, is there a canonical way of giving different views of the same resource? For example, a directory of people, where each person can have multiple photos, phone numbers, email addresses, etc. The people, photos and phone numbers are actually different resources with their own RESTful actions. But when viewing people, one page might shows everyone's name and associated photos; another page is names and associated contact information, formatted for printing. Would it be more "Rails-y" to: Create additional actions on the People controller besides the RESTful ones, like "index_with_contact_info"? Create a different controller and a different group of views? Neither seems quite right to me, but the first seems more likely. Any thoughts?

Securing Plugin Data in WordPress From Access by Other Plugins?

There probably is some solution to this, whether it involves code running on just the wordpress installation or a combination of a wordpress installation and a master server I am not sure yet, but please remember not to have tunnel vision and consider any and all possible solutions: The scenario is this: A WordPress plugin (plugin-A) that manages some sort of valuable data (something that the admin would not want stolen), lets say, lead data with user's name and email addresses, the plugin uses its own db tables. Other than the obvious (which is the admin installing plugin-B, not knowing its malicious intent), what is to prevent another WordPress plugin (plugin-B) from accessing plugin-A data or hacking plugin-A files to circumvent security.

One click login to my google apps solution how can I do it?

Hi guys I'm developing a google apps solution and I'm building on the tutorial application give by google at http://code.google.com/googleapps/marketplace/tutorial_php.html - the thing is that the example given sets up the application such that the user has to enter in manually the email address or username and then it takes the user through an authentication process whereby it asks the user if they wish to allow the application to be given access to the services mentioned in the manifest.xml file. Isn't there a better way to do this I mean like I want that when the user upon logging into his google apps account just has to click in the application link installed and straight on should be able to enter the application. Can't the process of authentication and all be transparent in the backdrop. I need help on this asap. Thanks a bunch!

View bound to paged collection view not updating all of the time.

I new to silverlight and trying to make a business application using the mvvm pattern and ria services. I have a view model class that contains a PagedCollectoinView and it is set to the item source of a datagrid. When I update the PagedCollectionView the datagrid is only updated the first time then after that subsequent changes to the data to not reflect in the view until after another edit. Things seem to be delayed one edit. Below is a summarized example of my xaml and code behind. I have problem with the fact that some of the data fetched from a table contain things like <S>, <L>, and similar fragments, which sometimes ar treated as HTML tags, and even if not, they are always ignored and never displayed. So, I need to escape this column before inserting into email body. Is there a function to escape html special chars into entities automaticly? Or do I need to replace('<','<',string) manually all the special characters? I found a function to escape URLs but not one for HTML :( Best regards, SWilk

What is "=C2=A0" in MIME encoded, quoted-printable text?

This is an example raw email I am trying to parse: MIME-version: 1.0 Content-type: text/html; charset=UTF-8 Content-transfer-encoding: quoted-printable X-Mailer: Verizon Webmail X-Originating-IP: [x.x.x.x] =C2=A0test testing testing 123 What is =C2=A0? I have tried a half dozen quoted-printable parsers, but none handle this correctly. Honestly, for now, I'm coding: //TODO WTF encoded = encoded.Replace("=C2=A0", ""); Because I can't figure out why that text is there randomly within the MIME content, and isn't supposed to be rendered into anything. By just removing it, I'm getting the desired effect - but WHY?!
