  • Best way to deploy VB.NET Code / create an assembly on a SQLServer

    I've created some functions / procedures with VB.NET and want to deploy them to a SQLServer. Within Visual Studio you can click right and select "deploy". An assembly will be created on the server and a lot of functions and procedures. It's really easy. Now I want to script the whole deployment process. What is Visual Studio doing when I make a deployment? Can Visual Studio autoscript all the deployment steps for me? Can I save it to a file and execute it manually?

  • Cannot truncate table because it is being referenced by a FOREIGN KEY constraint?

    Using MSSQL2005, Can I truncate a table with a foreign key constraint if I first truncate the child table(the table with the primary key of the FK relationship)? I know I can use a DELETE without a where clause and then RESEED the identity OR Remove the FK, truncate and recreate but I thought as long as you truncate the child table you'll be OK however I'm getting a "Cannot truncate table 'TableName' because it is being referenced by a FOREIGN KEY constraint." error.

The Officer table doesn't give me the number of officers per account. I need to retrieve only the accounts that have more than 20 officers. Should I use the COUNT ? If so, how ?     Hi. I run this script to search particular text in sys.columns and I get a lot of "dbo.syncobj_0x3934443438443332" this kind of result. SELECT c.name, s.name + '.' + o.name FROM sys.columns c INNER JOIN sys.objects o ON c.object_id=o.object_id INNER JOIN sys.schemas s ON o.schema_id=s.schema_id WHERE c.name LIKE '%text%' If I get it right, they are replication objects. Is it so? Can i just throw them away from my query just like o.name NOT LIKE '%syncobj%' or there's another way? Thank you.

Using just OR won't work because I need the person who play 'Tennis' AND 'Soccer'. But using AND also doesn't work because the values aren't on the same row.

  • Does query plan optimizer works well with joined/filtered table-valued functions?

    In SQLSERVER 2005, I'm using table-valued function as a convenient way to perform arbitrary aggregation on subset data from large table (passing date range or such parameters). I'm using theses inside larger queries as joined computations and I'm wondering if the query plan optimizer work well with them in every condition or if I'm better to unnest such computation in my larger queries. Does query plan optimizer unnest table-valued functions if it make sense? If it doesn't, what do you recommend to avoid code duplication that would occur by manually unnesting them?   • How do I average the difference between specific values in TSQL?

    Hey folks, sorry this is a bit of a longer question... I have a table with the following columns: [ChatID] [User] [LogID] [CreatedOn] [Text] What I need to find is the average response time for a given user id, to another specific user id. So, if my data looks like: [1] [john] [20] [1/1/11 3:00:00] [Hello] [1] [john] [21] [1/1/11 3:00:23] [Anyone there?] [1] [susan] [22] [1/1/11 3:00:43] [Hello!] [1] [susan] [23] [1/1/11 3:00:53] [What's up?] [1] [john] [24] [1/1/11 3:01:02] [Not much] [1] [susan] [25] [1/1/11 3:01:08] [Cool] ...then I need to see that Susan has an average response time of (20 + 6) / 2 = 13 seconds to John, and John has an average of (9 / 1) = 9 seconds to Susan. I'm not even sure this can be done in set-based logic, but if anyone has any ideas, they'd be much appreciated!

  • Linq to SQL generates StackOverflowException in tight Insert loop

    I'm parsing an XML file and inserting the rows into a table (and related tables) using LinqToSQL. I parse the XML file using LinqToXml into IEnumerable. Then, I create a foreach loop, where I build my LinqToSQL objects and call InsertOnSubmit and SubmitChanges at the end of each loop. Nothing special here. Usually, I make it through around 4,100 records before receiving a StackOverflowException from LinqToSql, right as I call SubmitChanges. It's not always on 4,100... sometimes it's 4102, sometimes, less, etc. I've tried inserting the records that generate the failure individually, but putting them in their own Xml file, but that inserts fine... so it's not the data. I'm running the whole process from an MVC2 app that is uploading the Xml file to the server. I've adjusted my WebRequest timeouts to appropriate values, and again, I'm not getting timeout errors, just StackOverflowExceptions. So is there some pattern that I should follow for times when I have to do many insertions into the database? I never encounter this exception on smaller Xml files, just larger ones.

But what I want, is to get duplicates with the same e-mails and names. I want to get Tom, Tom. I made a mistake, and allowed to insert duplicate name and e-mail values. Now I need to remove/change the duplicates. But I need to find them first.

    I have a function where I can add articles and users can comment on them. This is done with a one to many relationship like= "commentId=>ArticleId". However when I try to add the comment to the database at the same time as I add the one to many record, the commentId is not known. Like this code: Comment comment = new Comment(); comment.Date = DateTime.UtcNow; comment.Text = text; comment.UserId = userId; db.Comments.InsertOnSubmit(comment); comment.Articles.Add(new CommentsForArticle() { ArticleId = articleId, CommentId = comment.CommentId }); The commentId will be 0 before i press submit. Is there any way arround not having to submit in between or do I simply have to cut out the part where I have a one-to-many relationship and just use a CommentTable with a column like "ArticleId". What is best in a performance perspective? I understand the underlying issue, I just want to know which solution works best.

  • Copy whole SQL Server database into JSON from Python

    I facing an atypical conversion problem. About a decade ago I coded up a large site in ASP. Over the years this turned into ASP.NET but kept the same database. I've just re-done the site in Django and I've copied all the core data but before I cancel my account with the host, I need to make sure I've got a long-term backup of the data so if it turns out I'm missing something, I can copy it from a local copy. To complicate matters, I no longer have Windows. I moved to Ubuntu on all my machines some time back. I could ask the host to send me a backup but having no access to a machine with MSSQL, I wouldn't be able to use that if I needed to. So I'm looking for something that does: db = {} for table in database: db[table.name] = [row for row in table] And then I could serialize db off somewhere for later consumption... But how do I do the table iteration? Is there an easier way to do all of this? Can MSSQL do a cross-platform SQLDump (inc data)? For previous MSSQL I've used pymssql but I don't know how to iterate the tables and copy rows (ideally with column headers so I can tell what the data is). I'm not looking for much code but I need a poke in the right direction.

However, when I replace MyDynamicString in the Where clause with the full left(left(etc.. function, it works as expected. Can I not reference this string later in the query? Do I have to build it using the left(left(etc.. function each time in the where clause?

The concept of “layer” is different to the common concept of layer in a tree. Nodes in a “layer” mean the nodes correspond to the same item and be in a linked list from the “Head Table”. For nodes in a “layer” NBN method will be used to dispose the nodes from left to right along the linked list. To use NBN method, two extra fields will be added to each node in the ordered FP-Tree. The field tag of node N stores the information of whether N is maximal frequent itemset, and the field count’ stores the support count information in the nodes at left. In Figure, the first node to be disposed is “juice: 2”. If the min_sup is equal to or less than 2 then “bread, milk, coffee, juice” is a maximal frequent itemset. Firstly output juice:2 and set the field tag of “coffee:3” as “false” (the field tag of each node is “true” initially ). Next check whether the right four itemsets juice:1 be the subset of juice:2. If the itemset one node “juice:1” corresponding to is the subset of juice:2 set the field tag of the node “false”. In the following process when the field tag of the disposed node is FALSE we can omit the node after the same tagging. If the min_sup is more than 2 then check whether the right four juice:1 is the subset of juice:2. If the itemset one node “juice:1” corresponding to is the subset of juice:2 then set the field count’ of the node with the sum of the former count’ and 2 After all the nodes “juice” disposed ,begin to dispose the node “coffee:3”. How would I get a list of States with the number of distinct SSN's in each state?     This is going to sound very odd, but I have a web.config like this: <connectionStrings> <remove name="LocalSqlServer"/> <add name="LocalSqlServer" connectionString="Data Source=BACKUPDB;..." providerName="System.Data.SqlClient"/> </connectionStrings> And a global.asax like this: void Session_Start(object sender, EventArgs e) { // Code that runs when a new session is started if (Application["con"] == null || Application["con"] == "") { Application["con"] = "Data Source=PRODUCTIONDB;..."; } } And EVERYWHERE in my code, I reference my ConnectionStrings like this: SqlConnection con = new SqlConnection(Convert.ToString(HttpContext.Current.Application["con"])); However, I see that everything I do inside this application goes to BACKUP db instead of PRODUCTIONDB. What is going on, how could this happen, and why? It doesn't make any sense to me, and it got me into a lot of trouble. We use LocalSqlServer string for FormsAuthentication.

And in result I want: a 1 GUID somedate true a 2 GUID somedate false c 5 GUID somedate true c 6 GUID somedate false c 7 GUID somedate false Look that in result I don't want to have records with "b", because all rows have the same value (false).
