  Hy. I have a service similar to bit.ly. The link generation method is similar but the site is not. A user uses my site just like the mentioned bit.ly, but i offer a differnet kind of service for which i would want to rank (on Google) for. If i were to generate links such as: mysite.com/my-keywords/1Asdf34 would it be considered spammy or black hat? The same for bit.ly would be: bit.ly/url-shortening-services/3k1dS4sd For bit.ly it would defeat the purpose, but url length in my case does not have to be short.

• I upgraded my ubuntu server from 13.04 to 13.10 Bugs I faced

  On upgrade from 13.04 to 13.10 my system is hanged. So after waiting for 30 min. I tried to restart. Some file are corrupted. I inserted my 13.04 disk and started in rescue mode. Finally My system started Then, I upgraded some apps again. Now my system upgraded to 13.10. Finally Done. But, Now the bugs raised. On my start key I got only my online services. No other applications, recently used, music, video icons are not showing. I am facing huge problem. I am unable to see my application what i installed. I checked in unity tweak tool all are fine. So, I ask any one to solve this issue.

• Hosting cross-domain Silverlight applications (XAP)

  In the Silverlight world, there are two types of cross-domain things that may leave some banging their head against a wall for a while. The first involves making network-based calls (WebClient, HttpWebRequest, etc) to services hosted on a domain other than the one that is the site of origin for the XAP. • Set secondary receiver in PayPal Chained Payment after the initial transaction

  I'm running a service whereby customers seek the services of 'freelancers' through our web platform. The customer will make a 'bid' which is immediately taken from their accounts as security. Once the job is completed, the customer marks it as accepted and the bid gets distributed to the freelancer(s) as a reward. After initially storing these rewards in the accounts of the freelancers and relying on MassPay to sort out paying them later, I realised that your business needs to be turning over at least £5000/month before MassPay is switched on. Instead, I was referred to Delayed Chained Payments in PayPal's Adaptive Payments API. This allows the customer to pay the primary receiver (my business) before the payment is later triggered to be sent to the secondary receivers (the freelancers). However, at the time that the customer initiates this transaction, you must understand that nobody yet knows who will receive the reward. So, before I program this whole Adaptive Payments system, is it even possible to change or add the secondary receivers after the customer has paid? If not, what can I do?

• Google Keyword Competition rating

  Google offers a Keyword application that allows me to see the number of time a particular query has been made in Google. There is a column in the results named "Competition" (Actually its Concurrence in French, I'm just translating). Its a rating from 0 to 1, as in percentage. What indicator is that? EDIT * Is this something useful I should rely on? I'm not sure about how to interpret this data. Should I go for less competitive keywords with a lower number of searches or not worry about it and go for the highly searched keywords anyway? Is 50% considered high? what about 75% ? I have a very niche market that sell expensive offline services, so the very long tail is my goal (I assume). If you didn't already figured out, I'm very new to SEO =)

  After successfully installing Xubuntu 12.04.1 on my laptop, I decided to install Unity. That went OK but then I realized there was no themes. So then I installed the themes and artwork, and got a really bad surprise. My lightDM greeter was still Xubuntu like I wanted but the buttons where you choose the user are really tall and I have a purple computer as the icon above my computer name. How do I get back to the original Xubuntu configuration or edit the CSS while keeping Unity? I know where all of the files are but don't know which file to edit or which CSS property to modify.   I was told once that the best place to work as a developer is a company where the software you write is what makes the company money, whether it be software production or software services like consulting. This is opposed to a company where the software you write is just to support some other part of the business that makes the money, like manufacturing or finance. I know there are always exceptions, but in general, are employees treated better if they are on the front lines of profit generation, as opposed to being just another cost center? cost center (n.) - A cost center is part of an organization that does not produce direct profit and adds to the cost of running a company. Examples of cost centers include research and development departments, marketing departments, help desks and customer service/contact centers.

  If your head is dizzy with the myriad VS services and APIs, from EnvDTE to Shell.Interop, this should clarify a couple things. First a bit of background: APIs on EnvDTE (DTE for short, since that’s the entry point service you request from the environment) was originally an API intended to be used by macros. It’s also called the automation API. Most of the time, this is a simplified API that is easier to work with, but which doesn’t expose 100% of what VS is capable of doing. It’s also kind of the “rookie” way of doing VS extensibility (VSX for short), since most hardcore VSX devs sooner or later realize that they need to make the leap to the “serious” APIs. The “real” VSX APIs virtually always start with IVs, make heavy use of uint, ref/out parameters and HResults.
