  I developed a website, using php/mysql running at IIS Server as CGI Server API. Suddenly it gives me error 500 after two weeks. It has lot of scripts but index.php home is working. • Xen P2V for large physical hosts with much free space

  I need to P2V a rhel5 machine to xen under rhel5. I know I can use dd if=/dev/sda then using virt-install --import on the host, but the downside of this is the original machine has 80% free space on its drive. Does anyone know of (or can document) a quick and easy method which works reliably, to produce a bootable xen image which can run under a hvm in such cases ? I tried clonezilla to make the image, to avoid the free space problem, but it failed to do the clone with "something went wrong" (useless info, i know). At the moment im looking at doing a dd of each partition, and a file level copy of the partition which is mostly empty, then creating a new virtual disk, copying the partitions over to it by mounting both the new image and the virtual drive on a second vm, then copying the boot sectors over, then copying the file level backup..... there must be an easier way ? Oh, and budget is $0. :)

• Eliminate default SSL certificate

  I'm setting up a server for local access. I created a CA and have SSL certs signed and working on other domains. The problem is I'm trying to create a cert for a domain name that is the same as the host name? I copied the steps to make the cert for the other domain, but when I create and sign this cert, and modify httpd.conf with the path to the cert and key, the localhost.localdomain cert seems to be taking precedence. In other words, when I view the cert in firefox, it is the localhost.localdomain cert instead of the one I just created. I looked at ssl.conf, and tried to change the default path to the one issued, and I tried to comment out the VirtualHost, but neither worked. How can I override the servers default certificate with the one I issued and signed? Thanks.

• Error while trying to configure VLAN with Open vSwitch

  I am trying to connect a number of VMs using Open vSwitch. The VMs are on two separate physical boxes. Here is what I did: Created two tap devices on one physical host sudo ip tuntap add mode tap tap0 and same for tap1 Bring them up sudo ip link set tap0 up Add them as ports to Open vSwitch (br0 was created as a OVS bridge previously) sudo ovs-vsctl add-port br0 tap0 tag=1 Now I booted the VMs (using VirtualBox) and assigned addresses 192.168.122.11 and 192.168.122.12. Now when I try to ping one VM from another, I get the error Connect: network is unreachable. Since both VMs are connected to the switch on the same VLAN, I expect to be able to ping one from another. What is going wrong here?

  When trying to install CentOs setup as an iso image on datastore, i get an error : "Disk Not Found". I am using ESXi 4.1 as host VM. Is there a way to attach DVD/CD as iso image ? I tried "Connect at Power on" Checked and Connect CD/DVD on the VSphere Console, but i still am unable ot get the iso image recognized as a DVD mounted image: Solved: if i look at the image size, it was 11 MB, so it WAS a boot iso, but nithing else, if we compare it with other boot images with complete iso's therein lies the solution. This boot.iso was from rBUILD/Conary packaging

• Prevent auto forwarding NDR loops

  a week ago we experienced a really sweet problem at a client of ours. They are a school with around 1200 users, and everyone of them has auto forwarding for all mail activated. We use Exchange 2010 Now a few of the users where able to make NDR loops by adding 2 different, wrong, destinations. We had around 80k mails sent within a few hours. Not very practical. My question is, does anyone know a good way to prevent something like this. I have found 2 ways, which both fail for their own reasons We could manage the auto forwarding on the exchange host itself, which should prevent this looping problem someone said. But 1200 Users, not on my watch. There is a Powershell script out in the wild which should work against that, but my employers want something more "professional" Thank you very much for your support Linus

• What is a good php 5.3.x shared hosting company?

I would like to be able to use MongoDB / MySQL as well as have access to some of the more common PHP extensions like MCrypt, etc. I currently use dreamhost with a custom PHP 5.3.x build on my sandbox domain - Please do not suggest this as a solution. • Running PHPmyAdmin on Nginx, port 8080 passed to varnish not working well!

I'm completely lost on what to do: I was told I need to set up a DNS / nameserver on the server via IIS7 / Windows DNS, because I want to host the domains on the server (domains via godaddy). Can anyone help on what to do? Where do I point the domains, what do I set in the DNS? I've searched and searched, and found no tutorials that worked. Thanks!

• windows 7 frequently crashes when running 64 bit debian on virtualbox

  I've been having some hard times with Virtualbox. I use it to run 64-bit Debian guest on a Windows 7 host to be able to code for linux systems. It generally crashes when I build my code in eclipse cdt, or if I am doing some intensive operations. Should I lower the memory and core usage? Is this some sort of virtualbox problem? I upgraded to virtualbox v4.1.8 and the problem still occurs. My virtual machine instance uses 1736MB out of 4GB of ram, and I use 2 out of 8 processor cores. But still, the whole thing crashes 1 or 2 times every single day.

  Hi all, I recently re-installed XP on my PC. I had a vpn set up on the old system and remember being advised to change one setting so that it wasn't the preferred route for all network traffic. This was ideal as only connections to the target network would be made through the vpn and all normal traffic would go through the regular path unmolested. i remember thinking "why isn't this the default setting!?". now i've formatted my drive and lost the config for that vpn (besides host, username, passwd). does anyone know of the setting i'm referring to? thanks, paul.

• Running a webserver behind a firewall, is it secure?

  Currently we have a Linux-based firewall which NAT-ing our public IP address to give internet access to our staff's PCs and a Windows Server 2003 for internal filesharing. I want to host Redmine/SVN (a bugtracker) internally behind this firewall using a Linux server. This webserver will be accessed by our clients externally so they can post bug reports. This means that I have to open port 80 & 22 at the firewall to give access to the webserver and me to SSH it from home. However, let's say I'm using password-based SSH for the webserver and somebody cracked it. Does that mean the cracker could ping and access other servers and PCs in the network?

• VMware + SQL Server - sqlserver.exe not using both CPU cores

  Hi, I am working on a virtual machine that runs SQL Server Express (as part of Sage Line 50 Manufacturing). The details are as follows: Physical Server (host machine) - Intel Xeon Quad Core 2.1GHz - 4GB RAM - VMDK image stored on RAID-5 500GB SATA drives (7200RPM) - Running Ubuntu 10.04 Server 64 bit - VMware Server 2 Virtual Machine - Windows Small Business Server 2003 - Allocated 2 vCPU's and 2GB RAM - Using 100GB pre-allocated flat VMDK file The problem I have is that there is process that runs in SQL Server that is CPU intensive. On the old physical server that we migrated to the virtual machine from, this would utilise both CPU cores so the sqlserver.exe process would be running 100% on each of the CPU cores. On the virtual machine, it only seems to use one of the two CPU cores, meaning that the process is much slower to run. Question Is there a way to force SQL Server (sqlserver.exe process) to use both of the CPU cores, and distribute it's load between them? Is this a VMware setting that needs changing to allow processes to use both cores?

  I'm going to get a Windows 2008 dedicated server sometime soon. I'm going to have my website hosted on it, so, I also want to run a mail server on the same machine to receive any mail sent to the website (I use the SMTP Server in IIS for sending mail, but this about receiving not sending) Does Windows 2008 have a built-in POP3 OR IMAP server? If so, can it be accessed through a webmail interface? I mean does it also have a webmail interface similar to OWA for example? If not, do you have suggestions for a good mail server with a webmail interface, preferably free or open source? MS Exchange is above my budget and my needs are so simple anyway. I heard good things about hMailServer but I checked and it doesn't have a webmail interface. I know I can outsource this to a third party for a little monthly fee, but I prefer to host my own server. • Windows 7 "Could not reconnect all network drives" on boot

  Windows 7 won't reconnect to my network drives on startup. Once it is done booting opening Windows Explorer and clicking each share will mount them. Windows 7 Enterprise N Service Pack 1 I have attempted formatting the windows machine - first thing done to machine was to map the network drives, upon reboot they were disconnected. It is running on an Crucial M4 64gb SSD. The host of the network shares is a Ubuntu-Server machine connected through a gigabit switch. A modem provides dhcp, although both these machines have static IP's defined. It won't reconnect the drives regardless of whether they're SAMBA shares or NFS shares - therefore I believe it's an issue with the windows machine. Ubuntu 11.10 (GNU/Linux 3.0.0-12-server x86_64) I've tried using ip address instead of netbios name for mapping shares on the windows machine, Also tried setting EnableLinkedConnections=1 gpedit.msc Computer Configuration - Administrative Templates - System-Logon - always wait for the network at computer startup and logon = yes

• Posting videos to a website... with a dynamically updating interface

  I'm currently putting together a website for my Luddite friend. He needs a blog, photos and videos... all easily updateable by him. WordPress and Blogger both have brilliant functionality to allow you to host your own blog on your own domain, but what about photos and videos? Does YouTube or Google videos or Vimeo or MSN Video or anyone offer the ability to easily insert a video navigation interface onto your own site? (Something similar to YouTube's "Channel" pages, except on your own domain?) Same goes for photos. I'm pretty sure FlickR doesn't allow you to easily upload and manage photos for viewing on your own domain. Does anyone else? My friend doesn't want to be editing any HTML and I don't want to be creating a complicated system to handle tons of different videos. There must a user-friendly solution in this day and age? I understand that there are no lack of web-hosting companies, but I might want more control over the machine than is typical. I would want the ability to install software, such as an SVN server, and I would like to be able to expose various port numbers, as I may have a variety of extremely low traffic sites that I would want to have available. Obviously, one option is to host such a machine in my home. Is that my only option? Or is what I describe out there, possible as a virtual machine on a larger server?

Below is server specs: OS Freebsd 7.2 MySQL 5.1.33 Apache 2.2.11 PHP 5.2.9 I can do alias directory in my httpd.conf so that my domain can have subdirectory hosting in the same server such as httpd://domain.com/subdomain1, httpd://domain.com/subdomain2 and so on. All my subdomain1 and subdomain2 directory folders reside on the same web server but only different location. • How can I make my Virtualbox Vista see my USB device (iPad)?

  I have the latest VirtualBox. I have filters for the iPad. But it does not show up in my virtual Windows vista My Computer screen or virtual iTunes.   We have local sites running on IIS in regular MS Windows network. User base has IE, FireFox and Chrome. Local sites are isolated by host headers and DNS record created for the common IP accordingly. This is a regular set-up. Users without Yahoo Toolbar type http://intranet and the sites resolves. Users with Yahoo toolbar type http://intranet and the toolbar goes off to search for this site in public domain. This is irrespective to whether the address is typed into the browser address bar or the toolbar. All versions of toolbar and IE are affected. I cannot see a setting on the toolbar to switch this "irritating" behaviour off and simply un-installing the toolbar is not an option. Any ideas?

• I need a few minutes of dedicated server a week, but not for hosting, just to convert ogg etc

  I'm completely happy with my webhosting, it's just that I need to do one little thing they won't allow, and that's run an instance of Sox to convert about 30 mp3s to ogg files, in various directories, a couple of times a week, to be done automatically in response to the detection of the upload of an mp3. Probably looking at a minute of server time over the whole week. I've had unhelpful suggestions on other forums like "why not leave your home PC on 24 hours a day and then use all your isp bandwidth to do this", which doesn't work for me. I know that I can host files on, say, Amazon S3, but is there something similar for my needs? All it would need to do would be: wget/ftp the mp3 files, convert them to ogg, ftp the files back to my hosting. Of course, all this wouldn't be needed if there was such a thing as a compiled binary of Sox (or any mp3ogg converter) for Centos which I could upload without needing root access, but I've given up asking that one, but always open to suggestions!

  I'm trying to set up an Web Server running Ubuntu server to host some Java web applications, with MySQL running on it, an so on .. here is the tutorial I follow: perfect server ubuntu 11.10 The server configuration is: CPU S1155 INTEL Pentium G850 2.9GHz VGA 5GTs 3MB 65W MB Gigabyte GA-H77-D3H Ram 4x4Gb HDD 5x1TB Seagate (4 in RAID5 and 1 for Backup) The problem is that when I am trying to install the Server version of Ubuntu, when the installer asks me whether to activate ATA RAID Devices, and I click yes, he sees only that one, if I click no, he sees all 5 HDD's separate without any RAID, is this normal? I also tried to install the Desktop version on RAID5, but after restart, Ubuntu does't want to boot up, an underscore stands on the top of the screen. I am a newbie in servers and their configuration, in fact I am developer. I need a help from you guys.

• How to troubleshoot git "unable to set permission" on adding project?

  Finally decided to move from Subversion to Git, but am having problems with my first project. Did my "git init" and am trying to do a "git add" of my project, but it's failing with: $ git add . error: unable to set permission to '.git/objects/6b/6018c1c76dc5ec159d5cb65bab72 fa300d52f6' error: build.xml: failed to insert into database error: unable to index file build.xml fatal: adding files failed I have full permissions to the directories in question. The only odd thing about it is that it's a drive mounted (and mapped) from a server over CIFS. No problems creating/editing files/permissions with other applications. The host is Windows Vista x64 and I'm running git under Cygwin. Server is Windows 2008. Any other ideas on what I might be doing wrong?

• Can you link to a good MySQL dumper PHP script?

  I need to migrate a website to another host. I have only FTP server access and MySQL name+pass (the MySQL server's IP I was provided is 127.0.0.1, and there's neither PhpMyAdmin nor SSHell to use). A web app run there can access the DB using credentials I know and localhost server. So I'd need a PHP script, that will correctly dump all the available databases of the MySQL server so that they can be imported on the new server. Can you recommend a good one?
